Erase the disc, re - install OS

I have an iMac with three partitions on the system disk. I want to erase the disc (including partitions) and re - install OSX. What is the best way to do it?

Boot from the recovery partition - hold command-r immediately after pressing the power button.

Here, you can wipe the drive and install the operating system for the network.

Edit: This can install the version of the operating system provided with your mac; Then use the normal procedure to update.

    Hello

The restore CD may be ordered from this page or the ASP from Toshiba:
    https://backupmedia.Toshiba.EU/landing.aspx

If you want you can also install the OS from the original Windows CD and then you can download Toshiba drivers from Toshiba's European driver page.

    Welcome them

  • Toshiba 1 TB 3.5 "USB external hard drive - I erased the disc

Could someone advise please if it can be restored?
I just bought this drive. Never had before.

Copied the pdf instructions before formatting the drive to NTFS, but I forgot to copy the rest.
Would you call it say that the drivers or the operating system can be downloaded from the Toshiba site.

    Thank you

You don't need drivers to access the external drive, its plug-and-play :)

If no drive letter appears, check its partitions in disk management (Control Panel-> Admin Tools-> _ computer management > storage)

  • MacBook Pro not recognizing the Cougar USB install

I have a Macbook Pro 5.2-17 "retina display. I replaced the hard drive and I am installing Mountain Lion. The hard drive is not an SSD. It's a 500 GiB Western Digital SATA, partitioned with TPG and JHFS +.

I started by installing El Capitan, because that's all I had. The installer of El Capitan is on an external USB drive that is partitioned. When I boot using the down Option key, the C key or command-R, the installer of El Capitan is recognized. I installed El Capitan, created an installer of Mountain Lion on a different partition on the same external USB drive and erased El Capitan the internal hard drive. When I boot on the USB setup of Mountain Lion is not recognized. Setup of El Capitan is recognized correctly. Why not available in boot manager during startup? When I got El Capitan installed, the two partitions have been recognized very well when I plugged in the USB. Both were mounted and appears on the desktop. So I know that the problem is not the USB key, or 2.0 or 3.0, or the recovery partition because I erased the disc and the recovery partition is no longer exist. How can I get the installer of Mountain Lion to be recognized at startup?

I did the command Option P R, NVRAM reset several times. No joy. The only partition recognized at boot time is the installer of El Capitan.

I want to level back to Mountain Lion because it is less intrusive than El Capitan and will be more familiar to the person who will use this computer.

Oh, and more than two elements. When I start the installer for OS X from the external USB drive, I gives me three options on where to install TO - install OS X El Capitan, install OS X Lion mountain and Macintosh HD. Therefore the partition setup of Mountain Lion is recognized, but not as an installer to start from. Although when I plugged in the USB port when El Capitan was installed he showed as an installer Mountain Lion.

Also, there is NO option to choose where to install FROM. If I have two installation programs, I have two choices of installation?

  • How can I restart my MacBook after where the disc?

    Hello

I have an old MacBook (2008 running 10.8.5) - which became slow despite doing so much relics of different things to try to solve it. I came to the conclusion, the needs of disk wiping clean and all reloading.

Although he is no longer my main machine, I want to keep it on to run my accounts.

I had a Time Machine backup. I backed up all my documents and files that I might need for double safety.

I am now ready to erase the disc. BUT I did not do this for years. I assume that the best way is to use disk utility?

After that I wiped the disk, how best to recover the OS on my laptop? Can I copy it over an external hard drive? What I must start the mac from the external hard drive and it will allow me to do this is that I simply copied the "System" folder on the hard drive external?

    Any advice gratefully received.

    Jennie

    1. you have to start over from another volume, including the recovery partition. If your backup Time Machine was made 10.8 or more recent, he going to have a recovery partition, but can otherwise be used as a startup disk.

    2. If you used the recovery from a Time Machine backup partition, restore the backup of it. If you used a different recovery partition or an installation DVD, reinstalling the OS or restore your backup. If clone you your system on an external drive, the clone back; simply drag - copy the system folder or anything else will not work.

  • Request for emergency assistance. -CS6 adobe Master Collection - please insert the disc

Our company has downloaded Adobe CS6 Master Collection for deployment on our image master this year.

When you try to install using the files we downloaded and ran the disk hard that the installation said "Please insert the disk", it should not be necessary, as I already have all the files required to install on my computer.

I need a quick fix to what I have to get this master image made and deployed next week or two and I have hundreds of machines to do on.

It's a clean install and so there is no problem of compatibility with previous programs, I tried looking for installs it individual programs themselves in cases without success, I had a similar problem with the Autodesk products that I solved it by installing the trial version and then upgrade to version full immediately after installation. I have not tried that with this problem but I'm sure there is a better way to solve the problem. At least I hope there is. Please get back to me as soon as possible with this because I have to get this sorted out within a very tight timeframe.

    Hello ksatech,

  • Windows xp will not install on DBAN erased the hard drive

I had a virus on my hard drive that seems impossible to remove so I used DBAN to clean the disc. I have a disc under license of Windows XP Home Edition I used several times on this computer - an IBM ThinkPad T42. The player seems to be erased, but now when I try to install Win XP it goes through the formatting process I get a message that says that the formatting may not be completed and the reader can be corrupted or damaged. I tried several times, including the variant of the size of the partition, but I get the same message.

2 questions - 1 - is - it a way to tackle this problem and 2 - if I buy a new hard drive, which will solve the problem?
Thank you very much in advance for any help on this.

You must initialize and partition the disk before formatting it.  See step 5 here--> http://computershopper.com/storage/howto/install-a-new-hard-drive-in-five-easy-steps
