Error 1402 when installing Quickbooks update: could not open key: UNKNOWN\Components...
I am installing a Quickbooks Pro update, but it will not complete the installation because of the Error 1402. I tried to install these updates with an another user account with Administrator profile the same error occurred. I am running Vista Home Premium.
The suggestion that QuickBooks gives is to change the registry, however, this attention that any inappropriate change may cause the computer not to run properly or even the need to re - install the operating system. Since then, I have never done this before... I need expert advice on how to fix this problem please...
Thank you!

I tried the suggestions on this post (https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3581) three times already, and it didn't work.
Any other suggestions would be helpful.
For general advice, see troubleshooting problems with iTunes for Windows updates.
Try to run the installer as administrator. The Microsoft program install and uninstall utilities mentioned in note 1 below the second box.

I already checked on the persissions, I am logged in as administrator, UAC disabled.
There was a bad uninstall of the product, had to run "Windows Installer Cleanup" because that received the message "already installed" in the installer.
Now I have this error 1402. Another thing I need to clean up before reinstalling? Thanks for any advice.

- Issue: Failed to update and previous software may not be returned to or re-installed. Problem programs include Adobe Reader and scan and editor for my HP C4180 all-in-1 photo printer.
- (For example) error messages:
Error 1402.Could not open key:
UNKNOWN\Components\1FA18F797...
Check that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support... - No recent changes, with the exception of updates failed and normal widows.
- I thought bad updates from HP and Adobe has caused the problem, so I uninstalled and tried to re - install the software several times, hoping a release update would solve the problem. Impossible software returned to or re-installed, so I bought try 'PDF Converter 6' to to access PDF files. This program could not be installed for the same reason.
The Windows 7 FAQ has reported that Windows 7 could be reinstalled everything keeping the settings. The same can be done with Vista? If not, is there a safe way to delete these keys, so the software can be installed/re-installed without having to make a facility 'clean '?
Thank you.
Hi misterDormie,
This problem may occur if the permissions to a specific key in the Windows registry has been denied because the registry is corrupted or due to registry permissions
I suggest you try the following steps:

Suddenly, I was unable to open ITunes error indicating that another file is in use, even if no other program has been opened. I installed RegServ to clean the registry and uninstalled ITunes. We have solved this problem by granting explicit permission at the same time "domain users" and "domain administrators" you can plug in "domain" in the field and the search for the users and select them. But this solved the problem for us.

original title: problem with installation of iTunes
Hi guys
iTunes was running great until I tried to update to 9.0...
I tried the apple forums and forum of microsoft ideas, but nothing helps...
I use a dell 17 with vista home premium with sp2 installed studio.
partially, he settled then I get this error:
Could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\.m4b\OpenWithList\iTunes.exe check that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support team.
I guess you're the closest to support staff I have....
in any case... I uninstalled itunes and quicktime and itunes now will not reinstall. I tried the version 8.2.1.6 and I guess I can try the previous version... I also tried opening the HKEY and got in what concerns the OpenWithList, but he will not give me access. I have no idea what I'd do if I got there, but I watched out of curiosity and was blocked...
any info would be greatly appreciated!
If you have guitar questions let me know, I have been a tech for almost 25 years.
Thanks again, scott
I had the exact same problem and error as you message the guy but he fixed earlier. I'm not an expert, or even trained somehow. I just worked through until I got everything to install. If you try this, please back up your registry first.
In any case, here's what I did.
First of all, I uninstalled iTunes, Quicktime, Apple Software updater toally, _-anything with Apple in the name.
I opened regedit using 'run as administrator '.
I then went to the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-1-5-18\Components\DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8\108B43C0CEA676640B35306AE7D24051
.. .and selected the folder DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8
Right-click & click Permissions
Click Advanced, and then click the owner tab
Type "Administrators" in the current field of owners and th check Replace owner subcontainer and volumes(Note: I did this because I had another key with permission issues, after I fixed the original onelisted above)
Apply the settings, and then click Permissions tab. Once more, add 'administrators' to the permission entries list, and then click on edit and select all the checkboxes of permission. Also click on the boxes of the 2 bottom regarding permissions inheritable.
Click OK
Now on the main permissions tab, choose administrators in the windows user name or group and then check the full control and read check boxes. Click OK.
In the main window of regedit, you should now see the keys in the right pane for each subfolder in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-1-5-18\Components\DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8In the menu bar click file > exit
I downloaded and installed the new handset iTunes9 and apple Quicktime.
Everything worked well. I hope this helps.

Error 1722 when installing system update
During the installation of System Update on my ThinkPad X 41 Tablet (WinXP) I get the following:
"Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the installation ends as planned. Contact your provider to support personal or package. "Action StartSuService.EXE, location:...\startsuservice.exe"
Any ideas? All the input greatly appreciated.
Hello jdz,.
Only, I solved the problem on our laptop. Maybe the following instructions
can help you, too:
I found a service called "system update". This service was not running,
and I wasn't able to change the startuptype (disabled, manual, auto).
I tried to remember the "StartSuService.Exe" error message
the laptop for this file, but could not find. I found my own pc (office)
This file ("C:\Program Lenovo Update\StartSuService.exe'),It was manually copied to the same directory on the laptop and finally started
There are.
There was the bat hurt: I managed to install the current version of "system update".(each question if the installation can retrench was replied 'no') and
It is run "fine", download and install the software.
Try it and let me know.

Error 646 when installing Windows updates
Whenever I try to install the following updates to the window, I get the error 646 answer:
KB981715 KB980729 KB978382 KB978380
I use Vista and Internet Explorer
Sorry, you have problems getting your patches installed. I have a number of things for you to look at. First of all, are your Windows Update and the Background Intelligent Transer Services set to Automaticand started . You can check these settings by typing services.msc in the search box of the start menu.
Sometimes in order to get patches to install correctly, you must perform these tasks manually.
(1) Download Center to visit Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/default.aspx.
(2) search for each update code that begins with the letters "KB" and followed by a set of numbers (i.e. KB979309).
3) click on the link for the download and then click on download and run. You must accept the contract agreement, and then click continue.
(4) repeat this process for each download of updates Windows could not install.
(5) to rerun the update from Microsoft, click find updates. If all goes well, it will show that you are completely patched. If this does not work, try to run the Microsoft OneCare safety scanner. Sometimes it will solve problems of hidden registry, or erase viruses can prevent the installation of patches: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/whatsnew.htm. Click full service scan, and then Quick scan (full scan takes a long time to complete). Try the patches.
Hope this helps,
Barbara
