Error 1720 with Windows Installer using Windows 7

I'm trying to re - install a third-party program that has stopped working on my computer. I have Windows 7 Enterprise.  When I install the program I get an error message saying "Error 1720. There is a problem with the Windows Installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run. ..."  I checked the page under the Start button and checked services.msc than Windows install "Startup type is set to"manual", as suggested in this forum, but I still get the same error. I also tried of you unregister and register msiexec command-line cmd without success.  Can someone tell me how I can solve this problem?

Thank you

L Salamanca

If you have provided the name of the program, it would be a great help.

Also, what version of the program is it?

Including the architecture of Windows 7 enterprise use you, 32 or 64 bits?

Have you checked the Web site of the manufacturer for a new version or an update for the Windows 7 support program or to find out if it supports Windows 7 in all?

Have you tried to install the program in compatibility mode?

Also, did you try right click on the installer and click on run as administrator?

You can also try to disable all security temporarily as your Antivirus software and see if the installation ends.

Also, you can try turning user account control temporarily and see if it installs.

You can find more information on compatibility modes in the articles below:

  • Tecra 9000 - error message with Windows XP SP3 home edition

    Hello

I have a Tecra 9000 in very good condition, until yesterday, I have no problem!
After updating my Windows XP service pack 2 on the "service pack 3", everything works fine but when I press the button 'TOSHIBA controls' and 'mouse' for setting, Windows error message occure: "run a dll as an app"!

Even if I go to "Start" and "Control Panel" and press the mouse, after setting close icon, or just simply do nothing (cancel), the same message! I did not notice any other problem with the TOSHIBA utility!
My driver for mouse is "Logitech mouse ware, 9.40! Can you help me?

This oldie works well with Windows XP SP2 home edition and in my opinion you should use without SP3. Try to remove the SP3, and I hope that everything will work properly again. Problem is that the old tools and utilities designed for Toshiba probably aren't tested and updated to SP3.

I have more Satellite M70 and use sill with SP3. I don't want to risk anything and have problems.

  • Error 80070422 with Windows Vista

I had a problem with windows update for the better part of a year now, and attempts to solve currently have not succeeded, so I hope that you guys might be able to help.

Windows Update refuses to check updates and refuses to download updates recommended that getting through the cracks (updates Windows Defender since earlier in 2015). Whenever it comes up with the same error 80070422.

I always feel light defender of windows that it seems that the default option is. I regularly have antivirus and antispyware scans and they came to own.

I tried to update manually and I tried Microsoft fix it but the problem persists. I also added http: & https://*.microsoft.com to my reliable internet sites such as suggested by another user. My laptop does not recognize the file from the Windows Update troubleshooting tool, so I've not yet been able to try this. What kind of file (that I'm likely to have already) should I open it with?

If anyone has any suggestions, they would be welcome. Thank you!

  • Error - required with IE8 installation Internet Explorer 5.0 or later version

I'm trying to install the driver of HP Deskjet 6840 on a PC (Dell Latitude D810) with Windows XP SP3 and Internet Explorer 8.0. Shortly after that the installation starts, it fails with the following message is displayed:

Error - installed Internet Explore 5.0 or later required

Setup has checked your computer system and determined that you do not have Internet Explorer Version 5.0 or later.

Please install Internet Explorer 5.0 or later, and rerun Setup. A version update of Internet Explorer can be downloaded from the Microsoft Web site.

    Perform a shell?

In this pilot, the button only available in the error window is "Finish".

I pressed Ctrl-Shift and clicked the button 'Finish' without success. Tried several times.

What has worked for me in this instance has been going to the original installation CD and execution of the "HP Deskjet 6800.MSI" file and install from there.

We will keep you very practical fix. I have 350 other PCs who just upgraded to IE8 also and it will probably need your solution.

  • 9065 ERROR - PROBLEM WITH WINDOWS INSTALL "INITIALIZE LOGGER IS NOT YET CALLED".

CANNOT INSTALL CA 2010, CONTACTED REP AND THEY SAID IT IS THE SETUP OF WINDOWS. BELARC ADVISOR SAYS I HAVE WINDOWS INSTALL VERSION 4.5.6002.18005.  TRIED THE ROAD AUTO, "MICROSOFT FIX IT" FOR AN ERROR 1606 AND IT HAS BEEN IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND MY PRODUCT ID. CANNOT TYPE IN THE PRODUCT ID EITHER.  WHICH LED ME TO DISCUSS WITH YOU NICE PEOPLE.  ANY INPUT WOULD BE APPRECIATED

Here are the instructions to correct the Error 1606 (that occurs quite frequently as I see here often).  It affects Windows Installer before repair.

This problem (Error 1606) occurs because there is incorrect entries in the Shell folder of the user who is logged on to Microsoft Windows. When Windows Installer goes to the sale of Shell folder of the user who is logged on to the computer, Windows Installer cannot locate the correct entry. The solution is in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/886549.

The steps to correct this problem involve editing the Windows registry.  Change the settings of the REGISTRY can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the REGISTRY settings configuration can be solved. Changes to these settings are at your own risk.  I suggest that you first back up your registry as follows: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Back-up-the-registry.

Here are the steps to fix it.

    1. click on start, run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

    2. look for the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell dossiers\

3 remove the entries that show the path that is listed in the error message.

886549 KB http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/886549: Regedit open again. In the left pane, click User Shell Folders, point to new, click expandable string value, type the value name that you want to restore (AppData) and then press ENTER. Right click on this value, click change, type the value in the value data for the value name box, and then click OK. The value data must be: % USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming.

Step 8 KB 886549 suggests that you also check the values in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders. However, by fixing my problem, I had not to change values in the registry key.  If this does not work, follow ALL the steps in the referenced article.

You say that you have no protection against viruses on the machine you.  It's not good and I suggest STRONGLY that fix you this.  Malware can do all kinds of damage to your system which it crashing to the point where the only option is a clean re-installation or even to delete your important files or using your system to send extend to everyone in your contact list who they wouldn't appreciate (and other things as well - but you get the point) and you don't want that.  The good thing is that the best answer is FREE!  Try Microsoft System Essentials at the: http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Microsoft-Security-Essentials-Download-131683.html or Avast at: http://www.avast.com/index.  Do not run both at the same time (which can cause all sorts of conflicts and problems) - choose one and give it a try.  I use MSE myself and I've never been successfully infected (even if I only used it for a little while - I used Pandasoft before that, but there is no reason to pay for what you can get for free).  Once you have your Installer is working again, I suggest that the first thing we do is to download MSE and install it and set it to run automatically in the background and update automatically and check your emails as files and downloaded and existing.

    I hope this helps.
