  In the past I had to use the brake hand and/or Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate to convert files in a format that iMovie would recognize.  These files downloaded from my Hancam would go in folders in the Finder, from there, I would use the above-mentioned applications to convert the files I wanted imported into iMovie.  My old iMac recognized all the files in the original format from the camcorder and I could play using VLC.  This new iMac does not even recognize these video files to the video camera unless I directly import into iMovie.

  Try to select the unused clip in the library panel and then selecting file/reveal in Finder.   If the clip is displayed in the pop up you can drag to a folder and put it where you want.  You should be able to click on it and play without any additional software.

Click Cancel simply cancels the installation, just by clicking on review also cancels the installation.

  So... what upward with who? Where should I go from here? Is it possible to do a regular recovery? Or bypass the Apple ID thing?

  Because the computer has been configured using Apple ID of your brother, it is bound to this ID. If you have never downloaded Yosemite, you can not install it. Ask your brother to insert his Apple ID, so you can get the computer operational again. Then, go to the App Store, sign in with your ID and check the purchases tab to see if the Yosemite is an option. If this is not the case, download El Capitan and see if it will install. If you want to do a clean install, quit the installer and the program below allows you to create a bootable USB key. Boot from it, wipe the hard drive and then install El Capitan.   Well, I know that the issue is long-term... believe me, it's a long, but as they say, the devil is in the details. Anywho, the question is, my grandfather has a HP laptop, which for two years has been able to run through a Linksys switch to his router and connect its printers to his laptop. About two months ago it suddenly doesn't work like that. Now, it works fine if it plugs directly into the router/Ethernet. My uncle suggested that the switch was bad, but after testing the same port, cable and all, the switch worked well for him.   What you describe, it seems that you would need to upload images from your hard drive on your computer to Revel.

  Shut down the laptop.  Tap away at the esc you key start Notepad to open the Start Menu.  Select the BIOS ( f10 ) and under the Advanced or the Diagnostic tab, you will find the possibility to run tests on the hard drive and memory.

  Post back with the details of any error message.

  Note:  If the option to run these tests is not available in the Bios Menu, use the menu diagnosis f2 .
