Error: alert! Previous attempts to start this system have failed at checkpoint [size].

I tried upgrading the video card in my dell dimension, but doing so caused this error, error: alert! Previous attempts to start this system have failed at checkpoint [size]. I removed the new video card and put the old one back, but the error still occurs. Any help on how to fix this error would be much appreciated.

Not necessarily...

Power off, unplug... Remove the motherboard battery... Remove all memory modules except to location 1. Reinstall the battery and see if it boots now.

Then, repeat the process and share all the modules on the slot 1, one at a time until you ID a bad module. If they all work in location 1, add modules one at a time for other locations until all are reinstalled and it boots or you ID a bad location.

I have this message when I run it:
This system has no multimedia support for this operation.
I use w7, and I can't find a solution. Do you know what I need to change to fix this?
    Best regards

I still don't understand why don't you try two methods that I've listed instead, or what led you to try to do as you are.  If you have missing or corrupt files, you have a major problem and have work to do.  First thing I would do would be to get my updated virus checker, start mode without fail and doing a system scan complete.  If this does not help, I will try the system restore before that your problem started again to.  If this does not work, I would look through the system with the Event Viewer log.  After that if I didn't always know what to do, I would restore my full backup of the system (if you have one).  After that, I have to resort to restore my system to factory settings if I still had problems.

I hope this helps.  Good luck.

    Hi, Claudio Nahmad,.

This error can occur if the data in the registry for the device and its driver has been corrupted.

Since you have already done a factory restore, leave, try to uninstall and reinstall the driver CD\DVD and check if it helps.

    Hello

I oddly found the solution to my problem while browsing through the suggestions of SpritX at the following link: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/771598.htm

Here is the solution I implemented and now my drive works perfectly:

    RESOLUTION
Warning serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using the registry editor or by using another method. These problems may require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

To resolve this problem, remove the affected filter drivers. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, type regedit in the search box, and then click regedit in the list programs.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.
    2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Be careful it can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must ensure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the default data value is the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM and the class data value is CDROM.
    3. in the right pane, click UpperFilters, and then click on remove.
    4. click on Yes to confirm the deletion of the UpperFilters registry entry.
    5. in the right pane, click LowerFilters, and then click on remove.
    6. click on Yes to confirm the deletion of the LowerFilters registry entry.
    7. exit the registry editor and then restart the computer.
Note When you delete the UpperFilters registry entry and the LowerFilters registry entry, you may lose functionality in certain programs such as CD recording programs. In this scenario, you must reinstall all of the programs involved. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor to determine if an update is available for the program.

I've had my laptop for a little over a year now and it's had its fair share of problems, which most is repairable or there is a solution.
Earlier today, I inserted a disc in the drive and tried it opens, went into "My Computer" and find the disk was not displayed.

It's happened a couple times and a simple reboot fixes the problem.
I rebooted twice and this time, that the problem was not fixed, after going in 'Device Manager', I found there was a problem with the device and he gave me the following error message

"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its information of configuration (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

First of all, I wonder why you post this here in the Toshiba forum if you don t have a Toshiba laptop
It's a little strange for me... anyway I'll try to help you.

It seems that the registry keys are corrupt and so your CD/DVD drive does not work properly.
