After downloading Microsoft security update for Windows XP (KB2686509) update will not install - what should I do?

I struggled with this for days. Here's what was going on and what I did that worked.

faultykeyboard.log listed 24 entries of the form kb*.kbd

I searched and no such files exist on my computer.

By running regedit and looking, I found 24 subkeys appearance abnormal corresponding to the list in:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Keyboard Layouts

After carefully reviewing the risk of damage, I discovered that the operating system automatically restore this section of the registry in the event of a boot failure.

I deleted then boldly all subkeys of the *.kbd type in the registry. I deleted faultykeyboard.log. I rebooted then ran the KB2686509 update and installed and restarted the computer.

    The problem disappeared.  Everything works.

  • KB2686509 security update is not installed

The update above will not install on my computer.  As I am not very good in computers, I took my problem to a friend of mine who is a genius with computers.  He could not install either, he managed to establish that the problem lies with the software that handles my keyboard. Suggestions anyone please? Please keep it simple, because as I said, I don't know a lot about the intricacies of computers.

    Original title: KB2686509 security update

Your friend is right, because it has to do with your keyboard. Ask them to look in your Windows directory for a file "faultykeyboard.log" and go to this thread  (KB2686509 repeatedly fails with error 0x8007F0F4 code) where you have 3 possibilities to solve the problem:

    (1) glance to 2nd marked "Answer" Post (of Christian S.) and try to run its new VB Script (at your own risk - if necessary) as described in this report.

    OR...

    (2) search the marked 1st Post "Answer" (from Susan B.) and try to determine which of these scenarios you are. So far, there is - at least - three types of different errors that would make the KB2686509 update fails with error 0x8007f0f4 code,.

OR otherwise - if neither works above...

    (3) try to contact Susan Bradley (provided email in even mentioned thread) it is wanting to offer his help regarding failure to comply with this update to install - as long as you have your faultykeyboard.log file.

    Good luck!

I'm having a similar problem and wonder what the final steps / solution?

When I tried this with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit does not recognize the H.D.

I also read KB and think it doesn't look good for the installation of the driver.

If must go to AHCI at all and what I said is that AHCI mode is for the correct entry for drivers on the disc. and if it raises a question?, if it is impossible to install windows initially in AHCI how is that windows has been installed correctly at all?

My system is going to be the motherboard Asus M5A99X, Six cores AMD 1090 t., 12 GB ram, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

I have also had similar problems with my Asus M4A88TD-V EVO/Usb 3.0 is the original built the motherboard and is the motherboard present until I have find this and am hesitate to disassembly and reconstruction with the new M5A99X.

I just bought this new M5A99X now (previous motherboard has been renovated and has no sound, no disk support, from Newegg.com) from Microcenter and I hesitate to start tearing down and rebuilding of my custom version until I have find this AHCI configuration.
On my previous motherboard, I tried this and it do not see the HARD drive.

It's confusing, because if one thing works another doesn't 0_o

    I read the http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976 on AHCI and;

What is appropriate for the correct configuration? SATA and AHCI first, then if the AHCI drivers are not loaded, then again on AHCI (immediately) and then keep in AHCI or sata and SATA when?

When I read it; http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/922976 it seems to suggest that I have to install mode SATA, then REGEDIT. problem is that if my computer falls down before that I still have the chance to do it then what?

all other replies to this post were of no use to me and so I hope that I have helped those who were also trying to understand this. I don't have to wonder why, in one of the previous answer, so-called, was told not to post my other post on the forum. but there again question me answers in this forum.

There are people who are eager to build computers and try to understand this thing of AHCI driver.

on the old motherboard, it was not so easy to do. I wonder why Microsoft has a processor intel AHCI driver built in? and not as an AMD one to be recognized by the operating system.
