Thank you for your message.  What is the make and model of your external hard drive?  In the meantime, try using a different cable to connect it to your computer.  It might be that the cable has become damaged.  Please let us know the result.

A1. What program "At Microsoft fix it program" (e.g. KB971058)? I don't mention a "fixit" in any of my previous posts on this topic.

In addition, if you had completed all stages #1 à #4 in my second response to this issue, Windows Update should no longer offer KB973688.

A3. It is quite possible that the preparation of updated system (or CheckSUR) tool had already been downloaded & run my Windows Update.

TIP: Read the Symptoms section of http://support.microsoft.com/kb/973688.

    (1) do you have an installed application that "uses Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) to process XHTML files" and (2) that "generates a lot of requests when it tries to retrieve well known from the definition of the Type of Document (DTD) from a World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web server files" and (3) to "these redundant retrieval requests cause the W3C Server block requests DTD?

If you can't answer YES to all three of these conditions, you don't need to install KB973688 and steps #1-#4 in my second reply to this topic should prevent Windows Update from the offer.

Sorry, but I can't be any simpler than that. Yes, it's a little complicated, but it isn't either "rocket science". Good luck.

It is a driver of SCSI controller which you should be able to get Fujitsu.  If there is no current driver, you can install an older driver using compatibility mode.

To run in compatibility mode do the following:

Click with the right button on the installer > properties > compatibility > choose OS

DirectX is not something that you are installing a version. Install you all versions. Make sure that have all the files directX update via the directX Web Installer from the link below.

The Web Installer will scan your machine and install all of the directX files may be required.

The Web Installer updated with Update June 2010 will bring you and install no matter what d3dx9.dll who

have been omitted from the package of Win7.

EDIT: (11/14) The DirectX Web install does not help if there is corrupted DirectX files. If it is corrupted

Files DX you will need to download the full DirectX Redist (June 2010). This package will overwrite

    all DirectX files.

The main problem with Just Cause 2 would be the system specifications. 2 GB is not much RAM with Win7. My uses machine 1.25 GB empty without a lot of apps to start and a few disabled services.

Is the machine has a graphics card or integrated graphics? If it has the latter you Just Cause 2 can be more than your chip can handle.

This game requires 3 GB of RAM and nVidia GTX 250 or ATI 5750 graphics card.

    Hello

You upgrade to Office 2010 or did you do a fresh install?

KB982158 is an update of security for Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007. As you have already installed Office 2010, you don't need this update.
I suggest you remove all components of Office 2007 from the computer, including add-ins for Office 2007 from the control panel
and see if that fixes the problem.

    Follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, then Control Panel.
    2. click on programs or features.
From here you can remove office 2007 and its components.

Refer to this link for help:

I also want to mention that if you get the same error code when installing other updates, you can then follow the steps in the items listed
in my previous post. You can perform the steps of Vista on the computer Windows 7 from the first link. Also since the second link may be made

    OPTION B:

You see the effects of a hijackware infection!

NB: If you had no installed anti-virus application or subscription has expired at thetime the first machine was infected and/or your subscription has expired since or the machine is not been kept fully patched in Windows Update constantly, don't waste your time with any of the following: Format & reinstall Windows.  A repair install won't help!

    1. see if you can download/run the MSRT tool manually: http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

NB: Run the FULL scan, not analysis FAST!  You may need to download the MSRT on an uninfected machine and then transfer the MRT. EXE to the infected machine and rename it to SCAN. EXE before running it.

    3. now run a thorough check for hijackware, including registration required before a proper Court, logs don't here. DON'T SKIP THIS STEP!

If these procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, good reputation and stand-alone computer (that is, not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) repair facility.

  • Windows 7 SP1, 0x800F0A12 error code

I get the 0x800F0A12 error code.  Currently, I have 3 OS, XP home, Linux and Win7 home, on three different discs and I use GRUB as my bootloader for.

When I go to install SP1, I get the error.  From what I can tell, it's because I use Grub to control what OS I boot instead of Windows 7.  I tried DiskPart and allowing this reader and restart without result.

Short of unplugging the other two disks and installing SP1 this way is there another way I can try it?  Is there an ISO or EXE file that I can install from or I still will end up with the same error message?

    Thanks for your help.

    Bruce

First things first. Is your Windows partition on your primary drive? GRUB is also on your primary drive with a boot partition that contains the second element of GRUB? If so, try below.

    1. First of all, try to install Service Pack 1 Windows 7 Safe Mode. If this fails with the same error, try the below. Note: If you try to update by using Windows Update, you need to start Windows 7 inSafe Mode with networking, although it would not work. the best approach is to download the individual files for your system from the Download Center or to make a DVD from the Service Pack 1 ISO that Microsoft makes available on their site. If not, try the following below.
    2. Use the disk management snap-in in the Computer Management Console (get it by right clicking oncomputer and selecting the item menu Manage ) to check if your Windows partition is marked as 'active'. If this is not the case, use the snap to mark it active by right-clicking on the Windows partition and selecting the option from menuMark as active partition. The installer should run without another problem with the above error.

Before the change, however, make sure you note which partition on your main drive has been marked as active so that you can configure by using Microsoft's DISKPART.

If your partition is already marked active, then this is a related problem, the solution to which probably is on the relevant pages of Microsoft for Service Pack 1 support.

As a general rule, the problems I have seen relate to the use of GRUB and other boot managers third like-minded. Will run GRUB from the MBR and then run the code in the boot sector on a Linux installation. In general, this means that your Linux installation is on the main drive or your Linux partition is the active partition before start-up chainloads Windows 7 boot code from its own partition.

If is the case, then it is likely that you will need to make your Windows drive your primary drive and cut others by removing the power cables of the other hard disk drives. The system should not see them once you do this. GRUB can have an adjustment, however, and, if so, you must use the advanced options (some versions of Linux require pressing 'e' and then manually by changing the boot options) and edit/remove references to other drives and partitions in the GRUB menu boot before trying to start.

It is also possible that the system does not start without GRUB if the code of Windows Boot Manager is not installed in the Windows partition on this disk or GRUB is not installed on the same drive, which might then require a reinstallation of the operating system (you can perform an "upgrade" installation that will preserve the settings and applications) then installation of the service pack. After doing this, you should be able to reconnect the power on the other drives and continue as before.
