Hello

The best solution for this problem is to reset the component of Windows Update. The best way to proceed is to use the command prompt. Follow these steps.

Make sure that you logged in with an administrator account.

For your convenience, you can copy this message and paste it into Notepad. You can then simply copy and paste the controls from Notepad. You must quit all running programs before you begin.

Click on start / all programs/accessories. Right-click "Command Prompt" and select "run as Administrator". Click on 'Continue' in the UAC prompt.

Let the open command prompt window, until you have finished. Make sure that all orders are entered exactly as shown, including spaces.

1. stop the Background Intelligent Transfer Service and the automatic updates service. To do this, follow these steps:

1a. At the command prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER after each command:

net stop wuauserv
net stop bits

2. rename the folder "Catroot2. To do this, follow these steps:

2 type the following commands and press ENTER after each command.

net stop cryptsvc
Ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 oldcatroot2
net start cryptsvc

3 Rename the folder "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution":

3. type the following command and press ENTER.

Ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

4. save the files used by Windows Update and Microsoft Update. To do this, follow these steps:

4A. At the command prompt, type the following commands, press ENTER after each command, and then click OK whenever you receive a message was successful:

regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuapi.dll
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wucltux.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wups.dll
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuwebv.dll

5. start the Service the service of automatic updates, Background Intelligent Transfer and the event log service. To do this, follow these steps:

5a. At the command prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER after each command:

net start bits
net start wuauserv
net start Eventlog
output

Restart the computer and try Windows Update.

Let us know the results.

  • Vista - update security KB982381 fails with the error Code: 80071AA7

Update Cumulative security for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows Vista still fails to install.  At the beginning I had 6 automatic updates which could not install (usually NOT a problem), so I individually installed each... reboot after each update.  Success on those.  I tried to update KB982381 more than 8 times without success.  I don't use IE as my browser.  My computer is constantly trying to install this and reboot... never works.  Don't know what to do.

I did everything you suggested in the last email and I am sorry to say that the update has failed once again.   I use Mozilla Firefox as my browser, but I open IE * to run its difficulty etc.  I ran Windows Update (reset) in aggressive mode (what settings it reset?  I noticed when I went to the Control Panel, to look for updates and it listed that it is 'never' updates etc.).  When I did find updates sent to download, it came with one that was a failure and the other for Windows Defender.  This one has installed fine.  Let me know what I should try!  Thank you

... Support as good phone & E-mail have told me that my installation of IE8 is corrupt and that I should reinstall Windows.

IE is part & parcel of your operating system (e.g., Windows): If IE8 is "corrupt", Windows is corrupted, too. If this is the case and you are not ready to control depth for hijackware, only a clean installation can solve many problems.

If you choose not to, then be... but understand that your personal data (for example, online banking user names & passwords) still at risk with the computer in its current state (that is, not fully-patched).

I'm ready to do the checking hijackware.  Just have not been through a thorough check before.

In addition, based on one of your last posts, I checked to see if I had SQL Server installed.  Yes, I did.  Both a mini-edition 2005 old (forget which exactly edition), as well as a complete edition in 2008.  This could have come as I soak in access programming.  The two versions of SQL server is uninstalled, I still hit the same problem with sqmapi.dll

OK, I'll be back and I see your scary prognosis. I guess it would take some time to complete because it invovled five years of updates from McAfee to be reinstalled. If it takes about an hour, I should be able to get this done.

I have reviewed your steps again and have a question before I enter into it-

Given that this procedure you built has several reboots, how can I stop Windows trying to do the update of KB2618444 during each reboot of the tel? According to your interior, the update in question should be attempted that after reinstalling McAfee is carried out correctly, right?

    See you soon.

    Repost...

The computer must NOT be connected to the internet or local area network (i.e. other computers) in its current state. All your personal data (e.g., banking online & passwords credit card) must be considered at risk, if not already compromised.

Given that this procedure you built has several reboots, how can I stop Windows trying to do the update of KB2618444 during each reboot of the tel?

Don't worry about this. In any event, step #11 "purges" the queue KB2618444.

Comment: IMHO, McAfee Security Center is one of the worst (if not the worst) & most precarious security market suites. A casual survey of the malware removal forums shows that AVG Free is installed on most of the computers infected with the suite McAfee runs a close second.

[There is a reason that so many ISPs around the world offer McAfee Security Suite as a freebie: customers get this that they don't pay for.]

If it was my computer, I would install Microsoft Security Essentials (free) instead of reinstalling the suite McAfee at the #3-Oui stage, even if the subscription does not expire until September 2013.

There is also a good chance that malware are involved.

If you need search malware here's my recommendations - they will allow you to
