I get the error as well. I can not install any adobe updates, no HP, microsoft and I can't install a printer that I had once installed. I reinstalled the o/s about a month ago and have tried to add the programs that I ran once here with no problem, but nothing will be installed and the error message.
Hello irry,.
Thanks for posting in the Microsoft answers Forum. This problem occurs because there is incorrect entries in the Shell folder of the user who is logged on to Microsoft Windows. When Windows Installer goes to the sale of Shell folder of the user who is logged on to the computer, Windows Installer cannot locate the correct entry.
The steps to correct this problem involve editing the Windows registry. Change the settings of the REGISTRY can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the REGISTRY settings configuration can be solved. Changes to these settings are at your own risk.
Here are the steps to fix it.
1. click on start, run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. look for the following registry key:
3 remove the entries that show the path that is listed in the error message.
Let us know if this solves your problem.
Thank you

When I tried to delete the value name as he said instructions, but I get a different error message "Unable to delete all specified values." Is there another way I can remove the value? Thanks for posting your question on the Microsoft answers Forum.
Right click on the values that you can not remove and click on "Permissions".
Make sure your user group (or you) have full control. It could be a Director or
another account that has administrator privileges. Then try again and see if you can remove the values.
If this does not help, then give a more detailed description of what you're trying to delete and why.
This will give us a better understanding of what you are trying to accomplish and how we can help you better. We look forward to your response.
Thank you.

Ideas:
- You have problems with programs
- Error messages
- Recent changes to your computer
- What you have already tried to solve the problem
Hi Mefrombigd,
1. it happens with all types of CD?
2. did you of recent changes on the computer?
3 when was the last time it was working fine?
4. you receive the error message when you insert the CD into the CD drive?
Method 1
Check if you can access the contents of the CD using Windows Explorer application.
(a) click the start menu, and then double-click computer.
(b) make a right click on the CD drive, click Open.
(c) check if you can access it.
Method 2
It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.
I suggest that you perform a clean boot and check.
To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.

Reset the computer to start as usual
When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:
(a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.
(b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.
(c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.
(d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.
I hope this helps!
