Error message in Windows Movie Maker 2

I use Windows XP and have the latest Service Pack.

In any case, when I download a Youtube video and import it into Movie Maker, it works perfectly. Then I add the clips in the Timeline. I cut the sound. I then cut part of the video. Then when I try to save it to my desktop, it fails and I get an error message saying that I either:
1 is missing source files (I'm not sure what this is.) I think they are clips, but I already have all the clips when I imported the video.)
2. not having enough space (I have more than 1.3 GB of space on my hard drive. The film takes only 6 MB.)
3. the backup location does not exist (My Desktop exists.)
I already searched the site and got no response. I tried to contact someone who works for Microsoft, but I have to pay $50 (which is a RIP-OFF).
Can someone help me?

Apparently the .wmv files you have are corrupted somehow.

And it is possible that your project is too complex for your system
resources.

What format are the videos in the how you downloaded the
YouTube?

Here is an article that deals with the error you receive:

I tried to put the slideshow on my external account and another external account, but got an error message in the sense of Windows Movie Maker format is not accepted. I was told that the file I have must be in WMV format. I tried a converter, but it did not have the required conversion. I can put slidshows together but how to get the updates and other, I'm kind of a total newbie to know what to do. Is there someone out there who can help me try to get this converted so I can view the slide show in the two external accounts I want to use? I don't know if it is acceptable to say what two external accounts I need, because sometimes forums do not allow the names of these accounts unrelated to the issue at hand.

  • Windows Movie Maker-hardware error?

While trying to save/burn a movie on Windows Movie Maker project, I worked, I got the following error message:

"Windows Movie Maker can not be used because the required audio hardware is not found on your computer."

Please help, its a long time that I've used WMM, but I used many times before and would be eaten: lose my project, thank you.

It could be a codec/filter disabled, or inconsistent. In Movie Maker-> tools-> Options-> tab compatibility-> filters, see if your audio filters are checked (all others must be verified), if you haven't put the brakes on their topic.  If all are already checked, click on the "Restore all defaults" button. Other filters will be disabled, you may still need those disabled to run other programs installed them. Enable disabled filter a while then check that filter out the origin of the problem.

If this does not work, it may be more of a need to get an extra codec rather than switch off. You can use the encoded Xvid or Divx files you need codecs. Make a search for K-Lite, DivX and XviD codecs and install them.

  • Windows Movie Maker - error message not indexed

When I try to import a video to Windows Movie Maker, I get the following error message: the file C:\My Documents\video\VID00023.wmv is not indexed and cannot be imported.

You can use the windows re media file editor - index wmv file.  It is installed as part of the windows media encoder.

  • Using Windows Movie Maker on the error message XP__ not indexed _ bad quality

I use Windows Movie Maker XP (version 2.1?).  I've converted and imported a lot of videos.  I have a group of short videos recorded the same day.  I (with free STROKE) converted to AVI and they play with no audio and several play accelerated.  I've then diverted to ASF and some of them imported correctly.  Most of them gave me an error message that they were not indexed.  I downloaded several things to remedy this from online forums: I uninstalled K-Lite pack codec, Expression Encoder 4, WinDVR AVI, DivFix, lame and a number of things.  That's a family movie, I spent a lot of time on it.  If anyone can help with my old hardware and software configuration at this point I'd appreciate it.  The original film seems to be of much better quality than what I am able to import.  Thank you!

The most reliable video format for Movie Maker is. WMV.

No guarantee... but the following freeware converter
    may be worth a try:

Restore point before installing software or updates)

    Sothink Free Video Converter

    (Windows XP / Vista / 7)

You will need to unzip the file... or you could just drag
the Setup.exe from the file out of the folder and drop it on your
    desktop and install from there.

Once installed... Open Sothink and go to... Add the files button...
Find and select the clips you want to convert.

Next... in the encoding settings... Choose... Video credits.
WMV - Windows Media Video (*.wmv).

Choose an output folder and on the left, click on the button convert.

You can experiment with other settings later but
This should help you get started.

Well, I was very happy when the program doesn't stop after following your advice and unchecking above named filter. But then, after it scans the file (which is a progress!), he says he cannot continue because one or more of the files contains a codec that is not supported by AutoMovie. I don't even know what a codec IS. I know who was Kojak, and I know what is Kotex, but what the heck is a codec and how do I get one?

    Thank you!

    ==================================
Maybe the following article offers some ideas:

"What exactly is"Codec"and why would I ever need it?
    http://netforbeginners.about.com/od/multimedia/f/codec.htm

It is difficult to know what codec, you may need to because it
is based on the format of your source files. And it is possible
You may have some compatibility issues with one or more
    source files.

Several formats are apparently compatible with
Movie Maker, but the most reliable choices are:

    Photos - bmp
Video - wmv or dv - avi
    Music - wma, wav, wmv

It may be interesting to try to download and install a codec pack...
