Error_Not_Found (oX80070490)

Try to load SP2. Got the error code (oX80070490). Tried all the instructions of the MS site via links of error code, including:
1. turn off all firewall/security, including MS One Care
2 Uninstalling SP1 and re-install
3. how to install SP2 on separate drive
4. try to reinstall Vista from original CD - got to the point where it asks me to format either all data or update installation programs... this last option is grayed out.
Don't know what else I can do to install SP2? Thank you.

Glyn,

In addition to what Mike and Taurarian have already posted, I suggest you first see if running the update of the system (or CheckSUR) tool can correct issue CBS of corruption. Download and Save the 32-bit Version for Vista .
Then, Configure the system to clean boot to rule out software 3rd party interference.
Once the system is in the State of clean boot, run the system update readiness tool.
If the error persists, you can go to newspapers, that he started to see where the corruption occurred.

Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

This blog, which already Taurarian posted the link to, describes what it is and how to solve it.

The steps are not for the faint of heart, because they need to manually change the registry.
Don't try this without first saving the registry keys that will be edited and know how to restore them if the system does not start!

    Hello

    1. have you tried to install the stand-alone Vista Service Pack 2?

    2. are you you try to install service pack 2 on the computer from windows update or stand alone package?

    Follow these methods.

    Disable the anti-virus software

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

    Enable or disable Windows Firewall

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off

Note: Disabling the firewall Windows and antivirus software can make your computer (and your network, if you have one) more vulnerable to damage caused by worms or hackers. Turn on the firewall and software antivirus as soon as the diagnosis is made.

Step 2: Perform a boot in minimum mode and then try to install Service Pack 2.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

For the Windows automatic updates again you need update the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driverdriver. It will not be updated when you have intel check your drivers! For me, only the 9.5.6.1001 version worked. This driver can be found at http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02219204 .

Why does not the superior version is not clear to me.
