  • Error when you try to install Windows XP Service Pack 3: "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.

    Windows XP SP3 problem

Recently, I met a problem with my PC and was forced to use the system recovery. Now I'm back to factory settings and try to install Windows XP Service Pack 3 on my computer. Windows Update won't work for me, that whenever I try to update I get [error number: 0x8024400A]. I think it's because I use Service Pack 2, or that's what I concluded after researching the problem, anyway.

This is not my real concern, however. Because I could not get the update automatically, I tried to download and install the "Windows XP Service Pack 3 Network Installation Package for IT professionals and developers" myself. The first time I did it, I restarted the PC after the installation and was met with "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. "  I went into safe mode and went to a just system restore point before SP3 was installed, but now I don't know how to install it correctly without encountering this problem after reboot. I'm hardly the easy just stick with SP2 when there are potentially important available updates. How can I get Windows Service Pack 3 is installed on my PC?

    It's certainly interesting!

If the cause of your problem is to have a HP PC with an AMD processor and an original image on your hard drive (and of course it sounds like this is the case), the solution should be to rename the file intelppm.sys and launch the sp37394.exe patch. Once done, the SP3 file that you downloaded from here:
    SHOULD work!
I'm puzzled why there is no intelppm.sys file in your directory C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers.
Since you recently returned to square one with your PC ("return to factory settings"), then you may as well run the patch from this page:
and try the SP3 Setup file again.
But, first, let's be absolutely sure that we are both using the same terminology. Please answer the following questions:
    1. have you safely backed up ALL your data?
    2. what method did you use to ride "back to factory settings? I think that your choices have been a destructive restore (full) and a (partial) non-destructive recovery. The first erases the disk and leave you with a pristine image and NOTHING ELSE (which means that all of your programs and data get deleted). The other (which does not always correctly) is supposed to leave programs and data intact.

  • Error launching lightroom 3.3 in windows

I get an error when I try to open lighroom 3.3.  I've only had the program installed for a few days on my newly installed windows 7, 64 - bit machine.  All windows and updates of adobe installed yesterday.  The last time I used lightroom, I edited a file "141.jpg" coming from my SD card plugged into the computer.  I do not remember to save this file, I played with the settings.  I closed the program and now, a day later, I click lightroom and a text box appears on my windows desktop that reads "Lightrrom - opening catalog: IMG_0141.JPG.lrcat ' immediately after, an error box appears and tells Adobe lightroom has stopped working, with the only option to close.   I searched the forums and couldn't find the user/appdata/prefs folder to remove (using Explorer and the search function).  I have uninstalled twice and reinstalled 64-bit and 32-bit versions with the same error.  I also deleted the lightroom folder that appears in the 'My pictures' folder before the second reinstall.  I just purchased the serial number and put it in yesterday and now it does not work!   Help, please. Thank you

This situation arises when you try to create a new catalog of in LR and then pointing to an existing file instead of entering a new folder name to use for the catalog (I filed a bug against it).

You can only solve this problem in two ways (Alt/Ctrl + key during startup doesn't help):

    (1) rename the existing JPG

    • Rename the IMG_0141.JPG file (if you know where he is) to something like IMG_0141_Ori.JPG
    • Start LR, this will start LR in a new catalog called 'IMG_0141.JPG '.
    • File/open to open your previous catalog
    • Delete the file IMG_0141.JPG
    • Rename the file IMG_0141_Ori.JPG in IMG_0141.JPG

    (2) to delete/rename your preferences file

    • Rename/Delete the LR preferences file
      (Location of files Voirarticle article)
    • Start LR, this will start LR with preferences/default catalog

    I recommend the solution 1.

  • Windows connection problems and "Windows could not log in the Windows Event Service.

September 14, 2014, I installed the hotfix for Windows (KB2590550).

When I try to log on to a standard user account (not Admin), I would get an error that might say something like "Windows could not connect to the Windows Service Service event".  I click OK and then get a totally blank screen showing on the arrow of the mouse (which can be moved).

Around this same time, when I was able to connect, I got a "not genuine Windows" pop up.  My windows 7 came factory-installed by Dell (Dec. 2011) and I got no re-imaging, re - install or repair since I got the computer.  I've also been running Symantec Endpoint Protection (version DoD) for 2011 as well.

When I login as administrator (different account), I get an error "Failed to connect to the Windows Event Service" or something like it in a control bar bubble popup.

I studied the Knowledge Base, and he said to apply the patch to KB2590550.

Since then, the question is still common and works (sometimes) when I reset the password for the standard user.  In addition, all updates of the operating system, patches, etc. have failed since then.

Now, I get occasional blue screens immediately as windows starts to load (just after the initial windows graphics) which triggers a reboot.

    Service Pack 1 is installed.

    Help, please!

    Hello

Thank you for the update on the issue.

If the problem still persists I suggest to run the SFC scan to check the integrity of the system and see what it finds.

The sfc/scannow (System File Checker) command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

We can check & repair missing and corrupt files by the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

    1. Go to Start, click all programs and open the Accessories.
    2. Right-click on command prompt in the list programs, and then select run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click OK.
    3. In the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:

    sfc/scannow
