How to enable Windows Defender on a Vista laptop
Hello
I have a Vista laptop and today found out that Windows Defender is disabled. When I tried to put it on a window appears telling me an error: OX800106ba caused windows defender to stop work and that I should turn the computer off, then on. I did several times without success. Can you help me please?

Hello
If you use Norton, AVG, Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials, McAfee, etc. the default action is for Windows Defender must be disabled, that these AntiVirus programs have their own Antispyware Applications.
There is nothing to worry.
Using both programs at the same time can cause system conflicts, etc.
If you are using one of the above AntiVirus programs, this Information from David O - Support Engineer shows you how to manually enable Windows Defender (disregard information from uninstalling; not possible in Vista):
"Go to start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Look for Windows Defender.
Right click and select Properties , ensure that Startup Type is automatic.
Once modified, click apply and OK.
Quit and restart your computer. Check the back take the same path to confirm that Windows Defender has started"
.
If you want to have additional protection against malware using the version FREE of Malwarebytes AntiMalware:
http://www.Malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
And for now, change startup Vista programs without using Defender, use one of these methods:
"How to use MSCONFIG in Windows Vista"

Or the program Autoruns for FREE:
"V11.21 Autoruns for Windows"

I have microsoft essentials. I got mcafee but he was running so slow that I couldn't take any more and it took off. I have to admit that I'm not savvy computer very, just the basics. everything went well for a few weeks, but then, when I booted up my pc, microsoft refused to start too. After much pushing and shoving it finally comes into play. I used the restore on my pc to see if it a download that has caused this, but it's all the same.

error 0x800106ba, uninstalled norton, now advocate does not work
Hey,.
Vista 32 srvc pk 2. Subscription Norton missed. Uninstall tool Norton ran. Now the Defender gives error message ox800106ba. When I went in administrative tools and tried to open it manually, it says this, after clicking on start "Windows defender service on local computer started then stopped. Some services stop automatically when they are not in use by other services and programs. ».
I read forums all day but can't seem to find it exactly. Defender comes preinstalled with Vista on my Toshiba, so I can't uninstall it. I went to download defender on the Microsoft site, but it says I already have the Defender.
Any ideas how to get Defender running? I can't find any Norton files when I search. I would appreciate help.
Bret
1. you wrote ... Uninstall tool Norton ran
You're talking about Norton Removal Tool?
This one...? http://www.Softpedia.com/get/tweak/uninstallers/Norton-removal-tool.shtmlPlease, to be on the safe side, run the reomval tool, let, to ensure that none of the 'remains' of Norton components in the system.
2. What do you use to replace Norton ?
If you have more, it stops Windows Defender also. This is because they have their own advocates. Run 2 defenders in the same machine allows to create conflicts.
Here is the list of programs which will stop Windows Defender:
McAfee
AVG
Microsoft Security Essentials3. If you do not have all of the above, here is how to restart Windows Defender:
topic status , it must be said... Has begun
under Startup Type, it must be said... Automatic
If it does not say that, right click on Windows Defender > click Properties >
in Startup Type, click on the pointer to the right and select automatic
to the service status, click Start
Click OK when finished. For the benefits of others looking for answers, please mark as answer suggestion if it solves your problem.
