  Trying to install KB2661637 and KB2483618 - error that says that a prereq must be installed.

  When you "wanted", have you met the support page from Microsoft for the first patch you mentioned?

  As for the question, I suggested (based on your research) you just get later client remote desktop for Windows XP:

  so that the old update for this older version of the client is no longer necessary. ;-)

  I've read other discussions on error code 80242FFF.  Based on suggestions from Microsoft technical support, I tried Mncrosoft Fixit.  Also, I started my computer in mode safetboot and tried to update.

  I am running Vista Home Premium 32 bit on SP2.

  I just had my McAfee security expires and since I was not able to install security updates.

  I uninstalled McAfee and searched my system to make sure that it is completely gone, then I installed Microsoft Security Essentials.

  I was able to update its definitions of once and since I was not able to do so once again - instead, I get the error message "Virus and Spyware definitions update failed" and the code of error 0x80072efe

  I have since run a full scan of the system and the following were found on my system:

  -Trojan Dropper

  -Trojan notifier

  -Trojan Downloader

  -Virus: Win32/Alureon.H

  It is said that they have been removed - I'm not sure if they have something to do with my problems of system...

  Also my windows update still does not go to download security updates, and it still gives me the same error code.

  Is there a way to fix this?

  You should have uninstalled the McAfee application and download / run the tool to remove McAfee Consumer product and then installed Microsoft Security Essentials before as your McAfee subscription has expired.
