Essbase 2nd Instance using backup

Hello

Can I use 2nd instance of essbase (after installing essbase on another port on the same server or on another server) to copy the sourcr to the target application and use it as a backup.

What are the compromise that I do more general backup process.

No advantage with this or any disadvantage.

Concerning
Kumar N

Arrange the server to backup a copy of the source server with all applications, databases and the remaining directories required for operations on the server.
Synchronize the entire file of app n/b source and directory server backup system using all the techniques of full/incremental backup
Synchronize the files essbase.sec and essbase.bak b/w the two servers.
This synchronization of file system should be done after the two services are stopped.
Once the two servers are in sync.
Start the servers and cross-applications and data.

If Ant thing occurred on the production server, just you need to catch up services and you can use the backup server for the company.
You must make the necessary configurations such as the interface with upstream and a stream system.
Once production issues are fixed, you can fall back to production.

Note: It is good if you don't record health quarterly Server backup even if no problem in production. Then we will know no unexpected problems in setting up the backup server.

  • RMAN DUPLICATE: Use backup or CURRENT database

    Hi all

I have a database of 32 TB, and about what I've experienced so far, using backup to duplicate the database is similar to the use of the command to RESTORE and RECOVERY manually.

If I use the option of DATABASE ACTIVE, then I should be concerned about the missing log files?

Hereby, I mean, text source and target are in ARCHIVELOG MODE anyway.

    Thank you

To answer your original question, yes you are worried for your missing log file.

RMAN automatically copies the file to the server in the destination host settings, start the auxiliary instance with server settings file, copy all database files needed and archived redo logs over the network to the destination host and recovers the database.

If your copy of 32 TB on the network would take more than 1 day (what is your strategy of retention according to your other thread), so what, you won't be able to recover the database.

And you must mark this thread as a response and continue in your original thread.

    Hello

The ASR (automated system recovery) tool must have a disk for restoration purposes. The best option, if you really want to use ASR, is a floppy of USB external as suggested by chrisamiller.

You can also follow this procedure to create the ASR files without the floppy drive and then copy them to another location to create a floppy disk or, if you're lucky, your PC can boot from a USB key (I never tried to start ASR on a key, do not know if it will work or not, but it might be worth it) :

"You can"trick"the ASR in the race without a floppy drive." When it gets to the point where he writes on the diskette to cancel it. He writes two files, which are used for recovery, in the Windows\Repair directory. After completing your ASR copy these two files (files asr.sif and asrpnp.sif) to a network location and then make the diskette also. Make sure you update your disk whenever you make a new ASR or your backup will be watered.

Or, you can use a USB floppy drive. It is sometimes the only option, especially if you need to install SCSI or SATA drivers during the recovery. »

a: when you start the backup, it may be in Wizard mode. Follow the link to the Advanced Mode.
    b. Backup tab.
    c. click on the box next to the drive you want to back up so that it has a blue box.
    d. backup media or file name: Browse.
    e. Select a new file name on your CD.
    f. start the backup.

Here are two things to try:

The file is saved in the Temporary Internet Files folder. To locate the path, open the attachment to new then, and now Alt, press F, and to open the Save as window. In the save window slot, right-click on another file in the list, and then click Properties. On the general tab, copy the full path to the location. Then, open a Windows Explorer window and paste the path copied into the address field. This is where the edited file was saved.

    Since Christmas

    Copy this line:

    Search-MS:DisplayName=temp%20Files&crumb=ext%3AZZZ*&crumb=location:shell:cache%5CContent.IE5

    Now press Windows-E, Ctrl-Alt-D-V

ZZZ change to the extension of the file you edited, and then press enter.

This should show all the recently saved files in temporary Internet files with this extension. Good luck!

PS Si the file is, please copy in your documents folder before anything else. Open the copy to work.

  • doubts in the database using backup controlfile recovery.

    Hi gurus,

I have a doubt in database recovery using backup controlfile.

I do not speak of "ORA-01207: file is newer than the control file - old control file.

Here, any of our files archive / redo log have been lost and the problem of lack of update in the control file.

So why open the database in resetlogs option, after recovering the database by using a backup controlfile. ?

    Thanks in advance

    Mahi

In order to maintain the consistency of the data, the RCS should be the same in all the files of the controlfile & file REDO data current.

By definition when you use 'backup controlfile' there a SNA expired in it.

RESETLOG requires the RCS to 1 in order to get consistency across all files in the database.

CREATE CONTROLFILE fills this new file with the most recent SNA that exist in the data files.

It's just the way Oracle has been implemented.

A control file "backup" is a copy and is supposed to be an older file so it needs to be synchronized with the redo log using RESETLOGS files.

  • How to restore a virtual computer to another computer using Backup Exec virtual

    Hi all

I tested VMware 3.5.  We have little budget, so we intend to convert 5-10 dev servers into virtual machine running on an existing ML570 HP.  I created a test VM; I could back up and restore the entire virtual machine using Backup Exec to a physical server without problem.  However I can not restore a virtual machine to a different VM.  Let's say I dv01; I backed up using Backup Exec dv01 on the physical server.  Pretending the host has no I have rebuilt a new host, created a new virtual machine with the same name dv01 and same features.  I restored dv01 from the backup.  The restoration is properly; However, he got a blue screen when I rebooted the virtual computer.  The blue screen went so big that I don't remember what it was, but it's the kind of a dll error.

We want to keep the budget as small as possible using our existing Backup Exec agents, but it doesn't seem to work here.  Is Backup Exec for VMware agent a MUST?  Catering to the same VM is good, but restore to a different VM is not so simple.

    THX.

As you can see in http://www.vmware.com/products/vi/buy.html, VCB is included in all editions of VI 3.5.

  • Error while you're using backup consolidated backup

    Hello

We are facing a problem with the servers while using backup consolidated backup.

When the backup runs through scritp, it just create a snapshot of the server of th. and the name of the hard disk goes from the original for example abc1.vmdk to abc1 - 000033.vmdk

There are several snapshot files. Like this.. which is not allowing us to make the backup

I tired to change name to onec .vmx files HARD drive system startup and original. but its still looking for the other snapshot, VMDK fies

    PL. help.

    Thank you

    Smail

If you go into the directory of the virtual machine and "mv vmname.vmsd vmname.vmsd.old", then delete all the snapshot files since you can not use the more anyway, then you should be able to successfully take a snapshot of the virtual machine and then delete it (aka "remove all" in the Snapshot Manager).

In the future, just move the file to another name vmsd, then create a snapshot and delete all snapshots. and it should solve your problem.  Starting the virtual machine on the "basic" disk will result in losing you any data that was in the virtual machine, since the first snapshot was taken.

  • Recover using backup controlfile

A binary restoration of the controlfile requires incomplete recovery of the database and a database open with resetlogs.

But I understand why it is necessary to specify 'using backup controlfile' with the recover command - what is the difference. With the help of Oracle 11.2.

Since Oracle 10 g, it is more necessary to back up the database after a database opened with resetlogs and the recovery process is able to recover a database to a previous, provided incarnation archivelogs are available. What is the history please?

I just came across this old post of mine. Actually, I don't really remember what it was. However, I think the confusing part was simply that I didn't, that SQL * MORE and RMAN recovery is not the same.

When you use SQLPLUS to recover the database "with the HELP of BACKUP CONTROLFILE' is necessary. Under RMAN is not necessary because it automatically determines a BACKUP CONTROLFILE. If the question was probably SQL vs RMAN database recovery.

I'm trying to recover a database according to a backup controlfile to trace #2. Create the controlfile works very well, but recover the database fails.

From what I understand, the recovery fails because it cannot roll forward - 39 sequence is in the online missing redo log file. However, the database opens with the restlogs option and I understand that it should use the archivelogs in order to roll back. Since it is a new controlfile he does not know the archivelogs, but he does not accept to register or use archivelog files.

The recovery as shown in set #2 doesn't seem to work as expected. Any ideas?

What I also don't understand, is why he simply not restore using the information of the archivelogs. You are right. But it is especially the case.perform, create the new database and will stop immediately (without demolition) and remove newspapers online OS level. And try to recover the database using backup controlfile until cancel or just recover database until cancel then enter Word Cancel and resetlogs option database open. It will work. Because it actually do not need any recovery operation. But your case you need to recover the database. You consider backup restore las and perform incomplete recovery. I think you can do the first test.
