  I have 15 + years of experience of Oracle (including Oracle OLAP) but now I am faced with a new challenge called Essbase. How to install this? I have Win7 64 bit VMWare (with IIS) and I downloaded after the RTO files:

  -Customer EPM tuyauteuses version 11.1.2.4.0 for Microsoft Windows

  -EPM System Release 11.1.2.4.0 files 1-4

  -EPM System Release 11.1.2.4.0 part 6

  -EPM System Release 11.1.2.4.0 Oracle HTTP Server

  What I'm missing here? When I try to install, the wizard cannot me select the Essbase servers for installation (only the Foundation and analysis and Reporting Services are available). And do I need a normal relational database too (so I'll start with it, at least I can install it)?

  Please help, I need this environment of practicing as soon as possible. If someone could be so kind and give me a real dummy list as "Download this, this and this. "Do a, b and c".

The documentation tells you all the prerequisites, and the installation program supports the relational database (that Yes, you do I need) total, and so on.   Env: Oracle 11 g 2 EE (11.2.0.3), 6.2 RHEL 64 bit

  Storage: file system

  Databses: ten databases on the PROD and 20 on the DEV

  I have two existing servers with above configuration - a DEV and a single PROD. I have to move all of the databases from two servers to new servers.

  I have two options. Configure the servers again exactly the same way (same software oracle, same mounts-points, directory structures, etc.) and move/copy the databases above. The other option is to use ASM for storage instead of file system.

  Customer asks a diskgroup FRA separate for each DBA database. His reason is that if the FRA gets filled by archivelogs because of some process in the databases, all databases stops responding.

  • It's a legitimate concern and what is the best way to deal with this kind of situation?
  • Should I create a diskgroup FRA separate for each database?

  The archivelogs are backed up every 20 minutes for each PROD database.

  Please advise!

  You can limit FRA for each database with the parameter DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE.

  I am trying to install 11 GR 2 + (Standard Edition 11.2.0.3) + with the grid Infrastructure (we use ASM) on a brand new RHEL5 (64B).
  When I'm done with this one I'll have to do the 'same' several regional advisory councils of 2 knots and other single-instances.
  
  As stated in the official documentation, I created 2 separate unix, named grid and oracleusers.
  -Grid is the owner of the grid below
  -Oracle is the owner of the RDBMS
  +(They both have oinstall As Primary Group) +.
  
  They both share the same ORACLE_BASE (that is + / oracle + in my case)
  But as this directory was created by the user to the network (with umask 022), the oracle user does not have permission to write to this directory.
  
  Therefore, the installation of RDBMS is a failure (so I added the write privilege to the user oracle on ORACLE_BASE)
  I also had to give the privilege of writing on c++ / oracle / product + and + / oracle / cfgtoollogs + to go throught RDBMS installation and dbca.
  Now, when Nicole netca, she complains c++ / oracle/cfgtoollogs/netca +...
  
  Just to illustrate, it is that the c++ / oracle + is currently:

  Of course, it's no big deal and I might be chmod-ing occur each directory to which this question, but I feel "bad practices."
  We are talking about production machines that I might have to administer for some time and I don't want to "bolt" or "poorly designed" day 1.

  Wouldn't be safe / smart to opt for a single unix users, always have different home for GridInfra and RDBMS?

  Have different OH (ORACLE_HOME) on the GRID (clusterware) and RDBMS is required. Have different OB (ORACLE_BASE) on the GRID and RDBMS is recommended by Oracle, but you have a possibility to place the GRID and RDBMS on OB. even

  If the issue is users:

  It really depends on how and who will manage your Cluster environment. I believe that for every choice, we have a reason for this choice.

  So, if you have a cluster with many users of OS (operator / DBA / Sysadmin) access to this system... I recommend you to use Job separation of roles, this keep your environment more organized and secure.

  But if the user (Sysadmin/DBA) who will be responsible for administering the Oracle database is the same who will manage the grid... I don't get to use the separation of job roles.

  Although for use separation job roles really made a difference for that access through the BONE Cluster resources and ASM... With respect to the binary installation only root has privileges to change.
  In the Oracle introduced 11.2 security version that protects Network Infrastructure installation binary files. This prevents unnecessary changes or access to the OH.
  Change the binary files of the grid infrastructure, to unlock this ORACLE_HOME with root privileges.
  If this security should not be applied to ORACLE_BASE of Installation of the grid. Because this ORACLE_HOME of the GRID must be off ORACLE_BASE. (The documentation does not explain it, suffice it to say that the OB should stay out of the OH)

  P.S/maisons/Oracle Grid Infrastructure for a stand-alone server (Oracle Restart) can be under the Oracle base.

  Hello
  You probably misunderstanding about single-node RAC. This feature didn't need that you have only one physical machine in a RAC, this in fact means that in a CCR environment (2 or more nodes), you can run your database on a single node (single instance), and then later you can move this single instance to another node of the RAC (so that you can make some fixes on this node making your database available all the time). It also has a few other advantages, see below.

  No, your data still haven't write (immediately) to datafiles (your tablespaces logically). When point of control (when manually to CHANGE the point of VERIFICATION SYSTEM, SWITCH of NEWSPAPER, when the buffer cache is full, STOP IMMEDIATELY in backup database tablespace mode) then your blocks of data will apply to data files.

  These are not same data! This is the mechanism of oracle database. Cancel the information generated immediately and ensure uniformity reading (to restore). Redo information just, contain no information. It comes to redo change agent who used methods of recovery (media and instance) and finally your data updates do not immediately write data by DBWR because files there is reason of performance.
