  There was a post in early February on the displacement of most of the standard, but in this particular case, the organization already had vCenter Server Standard, so all that was needed was the CPU licenses.

  Yes and no. The Essentials most Kit includes no storage vMotion, but you can use "Change of host and data store" live migrate VM to other data warehouses. This is possible since vSphere 5.1 (see vMotion bug corrected in vCenter server 5.1.0a)

  I currently have a Dell 2950 III with processors x 5460 double hearts running vsphere 4 essentials and I am looking at upgrading on two servers with vsphere 4 essentials more with vmotion. How do I know if I can continue to use my existing 2950 and add a Dell R610 with two hexagonal x 5680 core processors? I want to be able to run most of my guests on the new R610 but power move them back to the 2950 (which could be changed during the upgrade) and if necessary R610.

  The only concern, you'll need to know is the processors for R710, R610, and PE 2950. You must ensure that enhanced Vmotion is supported for these inorder to three servers for vmotion (live migration) seamlessly.

  I know R610 and R710 works, but I'm not sure what that generate a PE2950 you are referring. SE aggiorni an ESXi 6 you attiva una versione 60 giorni di Enterprise Plus trial.   On an ESXi host using the free version, I understand that to have it managed by our current Server vCenter (which is licensed to vCenter Server Standard 4) we must update the license on the ESXi host for a vSphere Standard license. First is correct in what I think? I know there is another option using the vSphere Essentials, but this only covers 3 hosts of what I read and we have 4 hosts ESXi we want to manage, and also we would prefer to have all managed under the vCenter server if possible.

  Second, if it's true, it's as simple as putting in the new license key on the ESXi host, and then I will be able to manage through our current server vCenter (who also manage our ESX host)? Or it would be a full erase + install different version of ESX on each host?

  you are perfectly right and it's as simple as that. Just enter the new key on the host computer through the vSphere client and add it to vcenter.

  The standard license is the one you want.

  Yes, it will work. The licenses are for version major 5.x, this includes minor versions.

• vSphere 6.0 license Standard downgrade then upgrade

  Hi guys,.

  Just a quick I'm not quite clear on if possible.

  Basically, I have two hosts of ESXi, an old box of 5.5 running on vSphere essentials license and a new box of 6.0 running with the standard license for vSphere.  The new server is not yet in production, and is associated with a San (current storage on the 5.5 server is local)

  We have a 4 CPU license for vSphere 6.0 standard, so what I was hoping to do was downgrade 2 CPU of this license to 5.5 and apply it on the 5.5 server, this will enable vMotion and let me live migrate servers of local storage for the new San and across to the new host.  I then tried to shut down the old Server 5.5, rebuild fresh with ESXi 6.0 and then upgrade the number of processors 2 license 6.0 who have been downgraded, back to 6.0.

  Is it possible to do so without incurring a cost?  I see that a downgrade is possible for free, but I'm not 100% clear on the component to upgrade.  Basically, I wanted to do it this way to avoid blackouts, but if it comes to it, then I can plan a failure, just try to scope out right now.

  I was wrong. I just checked and you can select 'Upgrade quantity'. I learned something new today.

  From the point of view upgrade/downgrade you can make it back as long as you have a valid support contract.
