Essentials Plus and Standard - two clusters

Can someone confirm if it is possible to rotate the following scenario.

4 guests in total servers

2 first clustered servers

2 second cluster servers

1 x Essentials Plus license

1 x Standard license

Is it possible to have essentially more license (which hosts physical licenses 3) cover both servers in the cluster first, and the first server in the second cluster.  Then have a single Standard license covers the remaining in the second group server.  I would use then two separate vCenter servers to manage each cluster separately.

Hope that makes sense

Yes, you can manage mutiple bouquets with a unique vCenter - clusters can be in different geographic locations. You must upgrade the essentails more vCenter license since you can only manage 3 guests with this license.

  • Essentials plus and HA

Hi, I'm a little confused on HA and more essential.

Let's say I have two 2 servers to vsphere with virtual machines on a SAN and active HA.

What happens if one of these 2 accidents? The VMs system will automatically restarts on the other server or will I have to manually restart them?

And if it's automatic, it don't work if the aircraft crashed hosts the vcenter Server?

    Thank you

    Hello

You can configure them to automatically restart on the other server. The second server has enough resources host theses mV, of course material.

And Yes, it will work if the vCenter falls down, because vCenter is not involved in the HA-process itself.

  • VSphere Essentials Plus Kit vs Standard

    All the

I need help to make a decision here.  The environment is both physical server (2 CPU each) and they run out of a small local SAN.  I was going to get Essentials more but the problem is that it is around $ 5500 per server physical and that is almost as expensive as the server.  I'm looking for alternatives and I fell on VSphere Standard edition.  Although Essentials Plus has all the Bell and whistle I am looking for, but we can live with HA and vMotion.  The truth is that I can live with 15 minutes of downtime, I just need to know if I should get VSphere Standard edition or even Essentials that I have the opportunity to make a VM if I experience hardware failure?  Thank you in advance.

    Welcome to the community,

vSphere Essentials Plus Kit comes with a license for an instance of vCenter Server Essentials and 6 CPU license for up to 3 guests with up to 2 processors each. No need to buy a Kit by server.

  • What are the steps to upgrade to vCenter/vSphere Essentials Plus 5.0 to vCenter/vSphere 5.5 Standard?

We currently have VMWare Essentials Plus on 3 hosts, with 2 processors each. We wanted to add 2 more ESX host, so we improved our standard for vCenter/vSphere license to version 5.5. We try to find the best possible route to install 5.5 on the hosts and upgrade the server vCenter Server with our new version of the granting of licenses and software. The best initial step would be to apply the new license in the current framework 5.0 hosts and vCenter server and then upgrade the software 1 by 1? Or apply the new license to our current Server vCenter, pgrade to 5.5 server and then upgrade each host? Our Dell Rep gave me this guide (updated for VMware vSphere, Cloud Computing for companies of all sizes |) United States) and mentioned if we need assistance, contact VMWare.

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

5.0 and 5.5 must use the same keys. Then start by adding the new license key to your vCenter server then you are able to manage more than 3 guests.

Next step would be to update the server vCenter to 5.5 so it can handle actually 5.5 hosts.

Subsequently you would update the hosts.

Host licenses can also be replaced at any time during this process, because they are also specific 5.x version.

Theoretical you could even stay on 5.0 and simply replace licenses if they are not a sort of special license keys.

  • Three hosts ESXi and two Clusters VSA

Is it possible / is there a problem with it?  I know a single cluster VSA is designed to work with two or three nodes, but is it possible to have two clusters VSA on three nodes (one of the three nodes would be two VSA groups on both nodes at the same time).  I know there is a limitation that requires an instance of vCenter by VSA cluster, but I was unable to find mention of this type of configuration.

    Thank you.

When the VSA cluster is created, a single VSA appliance is installed on each host ESXi (2 or 3 ESXi hosts) of the VSA cluster.  The VSA appliance uses local storage of the ESXi server. If you try to create an another cluster of VSA, it won't use an ESXi server that is already a member of a cluster of VSA.  In other words, a single VSA device can be installed on a server ESXi.

  • Essentials Plus temporary installation

I currently have two servers Dell PowerEdge T110 with hypervisor ESXi6 configuration.  Each server has 16 GB of RAM and the local drives of 1 TB.  My plan is to replace these servers with R630 servers with 24 GB of RAM, but that occur for 3 months another funding arrives.  I have already received our Essentials Plus package and want to create on the existing servers so that we can 'play' with it and get used to the system.

I know the recommended minimum requirements, but think I might stretch what is a little until the upgrade servers arrive for my purpose.  So, my thought is this:

update my hypervisor from ESXi6 to ESXi6 with the Essentials Plus licensing servers

Installing vCenter with features incorporated in the form of an appliance

I only have 2 network adapters on each server.  Then, I plan on the uplink connection as follows:

1 uplink - management and Vmotion

    1 uplink - VM

I'll keep the local disks for storage BUT when arrive upgrade servers I plan on converting these T110 servers NAS servers.  The R640s will be delivered with 4 network cards so I should be in good shape

I think it will work temporarily for purposes can I training?  Any advice?

Nothing inherently wrong with that. I think you'd be better of just standing back a new server vcenter for your new hosts and placing them in together and then dismantle this environment later. But even once, there is nothing wrong with what you want to do and then set up the policy of clustering and failover for ports VMK 1 active and 1 sleep just so you have a redundancy in all areas other than the fact that I place two network cards on a single vSwitch. If you use only local storage, however, vMotion is irrelevant. You will lose your mind in waiting for the virtual machines to move through a unique NETWORK adapter without shared storage.

  • Can you manage VMware Essentials of vCentre Standard

I have a Standard of vSphere environment 4 and I need to move a virtual machine in a single specific server (which has a minimum configuration to minimize the cost of licensing of cracked).

This server is as an alternative to the V2P.  I'm happy to say goodbye to vMotion, HA and the CBT API for this server.

And I won't have a VM on this server.  It is rather a loss of a server (thanks Oracle).  I rather not burn ESX Enterprise license too.

So I want to install using licensed Essentials at low cost.

But the question is: what I can manage a host VMware Essentials of Standard vCentre?

I can't find anything to vmware.com who says I can't.  But then, I can't find anything that says I can be...

Do I have to buy a complete Standard license even for things that are not going to use all these features?

    Andrew

    Welcome to the community,

Perhaps this will clarify and answer your question:

    the EULA http://www.vmware.com/download/eula/esx_esxi_eula.html

    c) VMware vSphere Essentials and VMware vSphere Essentials Plus

If you have a VMware vSphere Essentials or VMware vSphere Essentials Plus license, the following additional license terms apply:

VMware VMware vSphere Essentials licenses or VMware vSphere Essentials Plus editions (collectively, "editions") you only to manage the server up to three 3 hosts and your use of these editions is limited to servers with up to two processors. For these editions, the host server must be managed by the VMware vCenter Server that comes with these editions, and this same VMware vCenter server cannot be used to manage other hosts from server not included with these editions.

So the answer to your question is: "No, you can't."

Can I use the standard VMware CD to upgrade the host or vCenter or should I use Essentials more specific CD?

There is no difference between the installation media... the same ISO can be used for all editions of vSphere/vCenter.

Based on what I saw on KB 2057795 I should update the vCenter first, ESXi nodes later.

Yes, it is in order, all first the vCenter Server and vSphere ESXi hosts.

Can I upgrade from 5.0 to 5.5 U2 or should I perform any intermediate task?

You can go directly to version 5.5 Update 2, but for vSphere, ESXi hosts don't forget to check the HCL first just to make sure that your host supports version 5.5 Update 2.

Is the update process, I need to run described anywhere?

  • Essentials Plus with 3 servers more than 192 GB?

So basically I'm in the situation where each of the three servers ESXi 5.1 has 32 GB of memory.  I wanted to go to 64 GB however after asking Dell for technical brief for this.  We bought the memory and it got here, but I can't use the modules to obtain the memory needed (24 4 sticks).  Because each server requires a pair of 2 or 3 pairs.  So basically what I've discovered, is that each server would be cheaper to spend 72 GB instead of 64 GB at this point.  However 3 x 72 = 216 GB.  We know essentials plus only supports 192GO max that I read.  Then, how they are managed in what concerns each machine with 72 GB instead of 64 GB.  Two servers will show 72GO and the third 48GB?  Knows also distributed memory 64GB each on the three server?  Anyone run into this situation and what happens?

In 5.1, the limits of the vRAM have disappeared - by socket only licensed

  • Cannot assign VMWare Essentials-PLUS license, says "vSphere FT" in use.

I am desperately trying to activate VMWare Essentials plus, but when I try to asssign the key to these two hosts ESXi 5.0.0 get:

License may not be assigned, features in use: vSphere FT

The other key "In VSphere VMWare Server" just assigned very well.

    That amounts to two questions:

How remove vSphete FT, even when disabling HA completely it always says "are in use."

I was informed by a representative of VMWare "Fault Tolerance" is included in Essentials, but the reality seems to be different. So either I have a technical problem or we have been deceived.

Any information to clarify what is happening is appreciated.

Check the configuration of your network on the host, especially the VMKernel ports and make sure that you have not accidentally activate the checkbox "logging Fault Tolerance.

What version do you use? vMotion has been added to Essentials Plus 4.1 and is not available in 4.0. Using vMotion you must have vCenter Server and hosts on the 4.1 version.

  • VMware vsphere essentials more and Dell MD3000i iSCSI - virtual disk not on preferred path

    Hello world

I am trying to set up our new vmware vsphere essentials plus the facility. We have 2 x Dell R710 servers running vmware esx4 and have a md3000i SAN.

Each server has a network cable to connect to a network SAN controller.

    vmserver1 a vmnic6 IP 192.168.130.110 the IP controller connection 0 192.168.130.101

    vmserver1 has IP 192.168.130.111 vmnic4 connection to controller 1 IP 192.168.130.102

    vmserver2 a vmnic 6 IP 192.168.131.110 the IP controller connection 0 192.168.131.101

    vmserver2 has IP 192.168.131.111 vmnic4 connection to controller 1 IP 192.168.131.102

Whenever I start a virtual server it causes the dell md3000i start flashes orange, and management tool says disc not on favorite virtual path.

After entering the tool configuration and affecting the path preferred, from the commencement to vmware, even with a single connected server it causes the error.

I tried to configure vmware to use direct fixed and alternate paths.

I did a quick search on Google and found these sites:

    http://en.community.Dell.com/support-forums/storage/f/1216/t/19269507.aspx

    Strange configuration.

Looks like you are using some cross cable?

Each host must have 2 vSwitches, each with a port vmkernel on one of the two iSCSI network.

Each host must reach all 4 of the MD3000i (test with the vmkping command) interface.

  • VSphere Essentials Plus - upgrading

    Hi people,

Big Question?  :|    Is it possible to pass of VSphere Essentials / Essentials more of VSphere Standard or Enterprise?

I looked up and down, and it seems that it is not possible, including some messages in forums about the Essentials VS as a 'end product'.

    Is this true?

Is same thing with VMotion for VS Essentials, possible to allow this feature?
