ESX 3.5 u4 update anomalies?

I installed the host ESX 3.5 153857 as an update and the new facility. Updating older versions from 3,5 up to 1-3 seem to go well and watch as before. I recently installed a new copy of update 4 and noticed that the Service Console no longer appears as the old configurations and makes me fear that I missed a step somewhere.

On upgrades from older versions of update of the Service Console network looks like befor with the Tag Service Console Port Connection Type and designation of vswif0 for the IP address, but on a new install of update 4 that the Service Console looks exactly like a regular port group? In the updates properties VSwitch0 - Service Console - IP settings show upwards, but not in the new facility.

I can always communicate with Virtual Console but all my efforts to recreate the Console port group does not resemble earlier versions.

Any suggestions? Update 4 change the way in which groups of special ports appear? Any help is deeply appreciated.

When installing make sure that its the right NETWORK card port to use for the SC shows (where your network cable is connected).

  • DELL PE R710 missing sensors on the tab 'Hardware status' vCenter ESX after latest patch update!

Last month, I update all my ESX host with the latest patches for ESX from 28/04/2011 (ESX410-201104001) via the vCenter Update Manager, earlier this month, accidentally, I have some verification to be done in the server room and noticed a hard drive failure on one of my DELL R710 Rack servers, I you connected the VirtualCenter client and when I click on the tab 'Hardware status' (where the alarms about the) Configuration hardware server usually appear), I noticed that my storage sensors are missing, the network sensors as well! ?? I recall that on March I did have another server hard disk failure, but I saw an alarm (for predictive failure) on my vCenter and I call Dell to replace the drive back!

I also noticed that now the number of my server sensors are between 73 and 88, before I remember although there were a couple hudred of them! ??

After some research on the net, I did I frimware/BIOS upgrade of all hardware on the servers, as I install OMSA 6.5 and Dell management plug-in to vCenter and all seems to work just fine, but storage sensors and count sensor under the tab 'Hardware status' issue was not resolved. I think there is a problem with vcenter, because when I connect directly to the host through the vsphere client, in the "State of health" tab all the material appears correctly. I found subjects with similar problems, but they have been with HP servers and not answered or solved!

Is there anyone with similar problem or no answer to my question?

    Thanks to all in advance!

PSIF there need I can post some screenshots!

Confirmed. Without patch ESX410-201104401-SG, my other R710 has a full complement of sensors.

I'm trying to update the host esx 4.0 to esx 4.1. The documentation I've read says that you can do this with the Update Manager in vCenter server. I'm new to vmware/esx/vCenter esx and has just installed 4 a few months ago. I'm following the instructions contained in the vCenter Update Manager Administration Guide. I've already updated vCenter Server 4.1 and the guide is for version 4.1. Top of page 90, say the instructions open the Update Manager and then choose the tab that says "host upgrade releases. I don't see this as an option. When I open the Update Manager, I see the following tabs: Getting Started, baselines and groups, Configuration, events, repository of Patch and that's it. What Miss me? I've read about this update 4.1 since last week and followed the 4.0 to 4.1 upgrade guide. I want to download the upgrade zip I have download VMware but have no idea how to get it in the Update Manager. Help, please.

  • Upgrading to ESX 3.5 Server update 5 & VC 2.5 update 6

    Hello

This should be an easy one for someone. I'm a beginner of VMWare, who needs some advice regarding upgrades.

    Our facility is:

    host of x 2 - ESX 3.5 Update 4

VirtualCenter 2.5 update 4 current running on the server physical (DB connect to local SQL exp license Mgr.)

approximately 20 separate stored on SAN virtual computers

The fiber connection between servers and SAN

Looking to upgrade to the versions mentioned in the question. Here's what I think I do, can someone please confirm that I have my steps in order? Please correct me if wrong...

Intend to do a place to upgrade, server downtime is not a problem, planned upgrade at the end of week.

    -Updated VirtualCenter

-Shutdown VMs boot from CD to update5 (created from ISO download) and I guess here I can update guests individually

-Then to update data warehouses SAN - how can I do this?

    -Then update virtual machines

-Then update the VMware tools on the virtual machines

    -Updated models

-Other stuff like Bishop Update upgrade an other plugins etc.

Also, what are the importance of backups for an update like this, that is not a major version update (i.e. 2.x to 3.x)?

    Help is very appreciated!

    Hello

I would like to do this way:

    1. Update Virtual Center Update 6 (make a full DB backup before update) - use MSSQL 2005 studio - works well

    2. updated - vmware update manager

    3. vMotion the VMS of off ESX1 to ESX2

    4. ESX1 upgrade (up to you, you can use the update - faster, you can use the command line, or start from ISO and perform the upgrade

    5. vMotion the VMS of off ESX2 to ESX1

    6. upgrade ESX2

    7. upgrade VMware Tools on VM - restart required after migration

    8. do not upgrade the virtual hardware, it will always be in version 4

    9. do not put VMFS data warehouses up-to-date

About backup, the backup only what you need to do is to Virtual Center Database, it would be improved during the update of the VC server.

  • How can I check the level of update on my ESX servers

I'm looking for upgrade to vSphere and check just wanted double that that each of my servers ESX patch level was.

I ran the esxupdate query and fail to find anything indicating that I am up to the ESX 4 update that I should be on.

My VMware tools in my guest OS is 158874, which is updated 4 I think.

any help will be much appriciated

UM, looks like to... If I remember correctly, you also have the build via VI Client number. When you select the host on the left navigation pane, you should have the host name and build version above the right pane.

Build numbers I gave you were for ESXi. Here are those for ESX:

    3.5 update 5 - Build 207095

    3.5 update 4 - Build 153875

    3.5 update 3 - version 123630

    3.5 Update 2 - Build 110268

    3.5 Update 1 - Build 82663

    3.5 - build 64607

  • DMZ Canals to allow the VM Update Manager 4.0 Update 1 for work FRO ESX 4.0 Hosts?

    Hi all.

I'm trying to get two ESX 4.0 servers in the DMZ to be allow to get patched by our internal server VMupdate Manager... Having a few problems to work through our firewall and was hoping that someone who post the ports required to make this work? When I scan the host I get this error:

Host cannot download Vmware Update Manager patch store files. Check your network connectivity and configuration of firewall and esxupdate logs for more details.

ESX host connects to the Manager to update through port 80. The reverse proxy forwards the request to 9084.

For host ESX sweeping and sanitation, Update Manager requires that port 80 be open on the ESX host.

If VUM does not work well, I suggest to remove and the relative DB and then perform a new installation of own.

Just to be sure that try to create a file in / Boot to see if you have a few mistakes... also check if you have I/O error with dmesg command (see bottom).

  • What is the best way to update a single host ESX 3.5?

We run a single host ESX Infrastructure 3.5 Update 1. Virtual machines stored on local disks. All management is done by customer VI, there is no available vCenter.

I want to update the host ESX 3.5 Update 4. What is the best way to achieve this?

Download ISO: http://www.vmware.com/download/download.do?downloadGroup=ESX350U4 and burn it to a CD

    Stop your virtual machines

Restart your ESX and boot from the CD

perform an upgrade of the ESX Server

In general, the answer is 'Yes you can' but I wanted to see if I could know for sure whether or not I can spend 3.5 Update 1 I have installed now, directly to the 3.5 update 4 using image below. I was browsing and related to research and the only true forums post I found was on someone who has tried from 3.5U2 in 3.5U4 and apparent or not, ended up with a corrupt GRUB BL.

  • VMware ESX server update CD & 3WARE CONTROLLER

VMware has a cd ISO labled the following: VMware ESX Server 3.5 Update 3 driver for 3ware 9650SE and 9690SA SAS HBA controllers GCCA CD. The URL is: http://www.vmware.com/support/vi3/doc/drivercd/esx350-3w-9xxx-2.24.08.021vm35-146309.html#InstallESX

QUESTION: Anyone know if this drive works with ESXi 3.5? The downloads of the installation, update 3 or 4, I tried to load do not work for me. If this does not work, can you me where the download is that he asks? If this is not the case, the ISO EXSi can be modified to work.

The disc is for ESX only but if necessary you can extract the driver and use with ESXi. I had check ESXi was last updated yesterday and there is no 3ware with her driver. See the instructions here to create an oem.tgz file - http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/customize_oem_tgz.php. There is also a link to the 3Ware Update1/2 site of 3Ware driver. I check which driver is more recent and use it.

  • Version upgrade ESX using Update Manager

    Hello

To upgrade my ESX 3.5.0 Update 2 for Update4 I did the following:

(1.) using Update Manager, I have predefined joint und Crtitcal NO Crtitcal updates and I have created a new ESX Server Updates (dynamic) base apart.

2.) I did clean up Crtitcal updated and overnight NO Crtitcal updates

I didn't fix the new line of manual base ESX Server Updates (dynamic)

Now, all updates are consistent and the build number is 153875

    Should I now update 4?

My question is, do I really need to attach a new ESX Server Updates (dynamic) not predefined reference to the ESX version upgrade?

BTW. ESX HOWTO find new updates?

    Yes, you now have U4.

You do not have to create the new base, critical and Non-critical are enough.
