ESX 3.5 under vCenter 5.5.

Hello

You can run ESX 3.5 under vCenter 5.5? If not, does anyone know the minimum version of ESX/ESXi, taken supported in vCenter 5.5. ?

Thank you

Scott

No,

vceter 5.5 supports only the ESXi 4 and later versions

    Thank you

Be physical vmotion wouldn't work - then you options:

    (1) vCenter maintaining physical - to maintain the existing environment, you will need to copy the existing database on the new server vCenter - once it is install a new copy of vCenter on the new machine set up the oDBC connector to point to the version copied from the database. If you are not concerned to maintain the existing environment, you can simply install a fresh instance of vcenter and remove the old environment ESX hosts and add them to the new vcenter.

Yu could also invest in a product like PlateSpin migrate and migration of P2P.

    (2) travel vCenter for a VM - use Standaloone of VMware P2V VM vCenter Converter.

  • Run the host ESX 4.1 in vCenter 5.0

Hello everyone, I have a simple question.   I am running 4.1 U1 ESX hosts and vCenter 4.1.  I need to upgrade to ESX 4.1 U2.   I know I need to improve my vCenter to match my version of ESX host, but I thought I killed a stone 2 strokes.   I have the license for vCenter and ESX 5.0 but I'm programmed to upgrade next year.   Given that I have to upgrade my vCenter anyway can I go to version 5.0 and run my ESX host on v 4.1 U1 without any loss of functionality?

I would like to upgrade everything at once, but the company needs me to complete the test first upgrade of the host is not an option at this time.

Thanks for your help with this.

    Hello

You shouldn't lose any features with what you described.  Remember however that in one year, you will still need to patch vCenter to upgrade to the latest version 5.x.

  • See under vCenter 5.0 4.6?

I will be slowly upgraded to 5.0 ESXi and vCenter 5.0, but I'm under view 4.6.

My question is if I upgrade vCenter to 5.0 will be that work with view 4.6 (I'm not as linked clones) and esxi 4.1 update 1

If it works can then run on ESXi 5.0 4.6 view?

It works but this is an unsupported configuration. It's okay for a test environment or POC...

  • How to add an ESX host licensed to vCenter (vShpere4.1)

Currently licensed for: 3 guests (Advanced vShpere 4)

Ok.. so, I have vCenter upwards and in the course of execution, have created my 'cluster' with two hosts. I have an ESX host 3rd I was using mode "assessment" within 60 days.

This 60-day period was close that expires so I moved and the 3rd license added to this 3rd host.

I would now like to bring this host to vCenter, for my 'sandbox network' and not actually add it to the 'cluster' so that I can run everything a customer.

Now, it is said that I am unable to bring this host to vCenter, as it says that I don't have a license.

So, how can I go on the withdrawal of the license, or get this host (already licensed) in vCenter?

Or do I have to start from scratch and reload this bare metal esx host to return to Mode Eval?

Since it's vShpere, there is "No license server" by not telling.

Licensing vCenter says that 'two' licenses during the third host is the 3rd license already.

    Any help appreciated.

By the way... I have searched for hours on forums, web sites, etc., with no clear solution.

    Thank you

    Howard

    Interesting,.

of your screen grabs, it definitel; appears as if you have only 2 licenses - as stated above, however, if your license covers only 6 processors, you could have used the additional licenses on them.

It is really worth to check that, and if it is not the case, get your hands on VMware and ask why the additional licesnse does not appear in your portal.

  • Questions about connecting to a host ESX 3.5 to vCenter 4.1

I need to migrate 7 hosts 3.5.x ESX ESX 4.1. I did not have a test environment and will work with live on committed production systems (not clustered). vCenter 4.1 and two new 4.1 ESX hosts have been configured to handle live Vmotion (cluster will come later). I activated the license point server towards the old VirtualCenter 2.5 in the hope of being able to disconnect a host ESX 3.5 live the old virtualcenter and reconnect to the new vCenter 4.1 without rebooting the host ESX 3.5. VUM is not an option at the present time, so I intend to do a full install base upgrade.

    (1) I know that I can disconnect the ESX 3.5 server the old virtualcenter without problem. My first question is, if I try to join the new vCenter (config pointing to the old license server) box of 3.5 will be vCenter 4.1 need to install the new management agent in the box of 3.5 and therefore require the host restarts?

    (2) if the agent of 4.1 management is not installed on the host ESX 3.5, its virtual machines can be migrated (cold) to one of the new servers?

I should add that the licenses are not a problem, we are migrating to the latest keys but have sufficient old licenses to manage the transition. The VMs are on SAN LUNs that are visible to guests old and new.

Especially, I want to know what to expect through are exactly what will to restart is required and have not been able to locate that particular point.

    Thanks in advance.

When we went from 3.5 to vSphere, is that big of a deal.  Just disconnected the vCenter server host and updated the vCenter keeping the existing license server, and then re-attached to the new Victoria Cross.  It will establish links with the new 4.1 software, but it shouldn't require a reboot at all.  I did mine with all virtual machines out of it, but I think you can do all this live... Since a little while I did this upgrade

  • ESX 4.1 with vCenter 4.0

We intend to improve of ESX 3.5 update 4 to ESX 4.1. At this time we do not want to upgrade vCenter 4.1. Is it possible to simply upgrade to the ESX host and not the host to vCenter?

No, you need first to vCenter 4.1. vCenter 4.0 does not support the host ESX (i) 4.1.

  • ESX 3.5 and vCenter 2.5

We start our journey to virtualization!

My question which should we configure first?  ESX host or vCenter server or it does not matter?

    Thank you.

If you plan to run your server vCenter Server as a virtual machine, then you will need to build ESX first.  Otherwise if you start from a "clean slate", so I guess that's not really important.

For me, I build my vCenter Server first, which put in place, and then start adding hosts in the environment such as each one was built.

  • running in vCenter Server, ESX, how clean the vCenter host?

I hope that the topic of the thread makes sense somehow.

We have vCenter Server works like an ESX VM, for now on local storage, but eventually it can be moved to the SAN storage.

To clean up our ESX host, we use Update Manager.

How does the VUM to sanitise the host that is running the vCenter Server VM?

What should I do to have AUVS to clean up the host that runs the vCenter Server VM that is running VUM?

    Thank you, Tom

If everything works on local storage, you can simply make your updates via esxupdate on the command line.

  • Cannot install esx 4.1 under raid 5 with 2.7 TB hard drive

    Hello

I've been tring install esx 4.1 to IBM 3650 server with Raid-MR10i server with raid 5. 6 x 600 GB hard drive

When it come to selec-hdd it shows the hard drive, but cannot select them.

but this does not happen with esxi 4.1 for esxi 5.0. and also if I tried with 4x600GB hard disk drive is active and I can install esx 4.1

any ideas. IWAS tring to understand her for the last two days

    Thanks in advance

    My thoughts

The maximum supported size of the LUN in vSphere 4.x is 2 TB

It is why ESX 4.1 can't install TB LUN 2.7, but can be downloaded on the 1.8 to

ESXi installation is different because it uses only a small partition of the large LUN and do not create a data store

You will see after installation you probably woun't be able to create a VMFS data with the remaining space store, because it is longer than 2 TB on ESXi4

Please allow points to useful/correct answers.

  • vCenter vsphere with hosts in esxi 3.5

    Hello!

I would like to know different things.

First of all if I migrate vsphere vcenter could I maintain my ESX 3.5i hosts?

Or I must have at least a host on vsphere and other in ESX 3.5 I have?

The second thing is if I update a single host is this host will write all the data on the storage? (guests on the storage worldwidenames)

    Thank you

    for the help

There is no reason for hepatitis a at least a better host. You will be able to connect to vCenter 4 and ESX 3.5 hosts using the vSphere Client (in fact, you'll have the VI Client and installed the vSphere client).

I have only a few concerns about maintaining this scenario for a long time because maybe you can run some buggy not covered by vmware - question example, sometimes that you have problems on the properties of the data store discovers with ESX 3.5 under vCenter 4.
