[esx 3.5 update 5 build 207095] I need patch Server?

Hi I'm new with vmware, so please forgive me to fake question.

I installed the free version of ESX 3.5. I visited the web page with all the patches and updates for my server. There was a lot of patches and I'm courius if I install all? I ask because I do not have what to do now?

Start downloading all the patches and start installation or not because my version of esx server is real.

I'll be grateful for any help

Patrick

Welcome!
You should check what were the difference in your Build host. In fact the latest availabe Build is Build number: 391406. Check all the patches of your build and apply.

Stay up to date is very recommended.

Please, do not forget the points of call of the "useful" or "correct" answers

Hi everyone, we are currently trying to update our ESX running 207095 build (new generation).  As soon as we do the remediation.  It starts to install without problem until it hits the 30% Mark.  At this point the update managers hangs and fails after 30 minutes saying "Update Manager has timed out...". "At this point i will accept a reboot in vCenter, and once he's trying to start at what was assumed to be GRUB I get this error:"Error 15 file not found"at this stage, we rebuild the host.  And it happened again on the fresh build.

  • Electrodes for ESX 3.5 Update 4 (build 153875, early release 2009/03/30)

I update document to build our ESX company for new servers and one of the steps-after installing ESX 3.5 U4- is to get the latest patches of 'CRITICISM' http://support.vmware.com/selfsupport/download/

We do not update - manager

    not yet-

don't ask.  We are always pleased with esxupdate.  In any case, I went to http://support.vmware.com/selfsupport/download/ and unfortunately, I'm a little confused when it comes to the stuff of ESX 3.5.  But after some trial and error on the use of this site, I think I've found the following is true:

    1. do not take into account ALL the patches dated on 30/03/2009, as those who are already installed with the image ISO of ESX 3.5 U4.  This has been confirmed by "esxupdate query.  It shows these all listed/installed.  I guess it makes sense, since the data on the release of ESX 3.5 U4 / 153875 Build is just that - 30/03/2009.

    2. list all patches for ESX 3.5, all classifications and sort by date.  This will show the patches AFTER 30/03/2009, which are available AFTER the ESX 3.5 U4 ONLY really put patches / Build 153875 iso image has been released for download.   This really translates into the listing of all available patches FROM 153875 build is actually released.  As of today, there are 10 patches with April 2009 dates and 5 patches with may 2009 dates.

I'm sure that many of you know already all this, but since I'm new to 3.5 built and have not used this site 'free service' for some time, it took me some time to "understand it".  I am also curious to know if someone told comments.

If you are looking to document a procedure, your best bet would be to include:

Check the release ISO date before starting the installation.

Based on the release date control patches that were released after release date. This means that all the patches would be new which is not part of the iso image.

    I hope this helps.

  • DECOMPRESS and UPDATE COMMANDS NOT WORK on ESX 3i, 3.5.0 build 207095... WHY?

I used this document only for the part of the INSTALLATION of the UPDATE, I have 5 update installed, and which relates to the UPDATE 2.

VMware KB: ESX 3.5, Patch ESX350-200806812-BG: Critical Fix for August 12, question of the license expiration time

Now, the document certainly has step by step instructions on installation, questioning etc. But my problem is... NOT ALL WORK ORDERS FOR ME!

That's why I'm here because all the instructions I've read does not work with my flavor of ESX 3.5.0 207095... WHY? It left me speechless.

For example, here are a few commands the doc asked me to do and they failed: (note that I had to unzip the folder on my windows machine and download it in / tmp with vSphere Client 5.5)

    / tmp # ls

  • Command updating ESX Server 3i, 3.5.0 build #207095

I have a server ESX 3i, 3.5.0 build from 207095 and I'm trying to update with the latest patch (ESXe350-201302401-O - SG.zip) which I copied to a folder on the local drive:

    "/ vmfs/volumes/OS-Datastore/Patches / '.

    I run the commands:

    «esxupdate install /vmfs/volumes/OS-Datastore/Patches/ESXe350-201302401-O-SG.zip b»

    ... as well as

    "esxupdate install /vmfs/volumes/OS-Datastore/Patches/ESXe350-201302401-O-SG.zip d.

... and it is for me to give a new prompt. That means that means and why I can't update my installation?

I also extracted the original zip file and created these sub zip files:

    "ESXe350-201302401-I - SG.zip".

    "ESXe350-201302401-T - BG.zip" and

    "ESXe350-201302401-C - SG.zip.

... I tried the command on them as anything does not.

How can I get this patch inistalled?

    What is the right syntax?

    Thanks P.A.!

Your post led me to the answer here:

VMware KB: Image of ESXi Server 3.5 June 2011 Rollup CD

I missed an update and for this reason I have to do a clean install as shown in the link above.

My version can't do any update or update more!

What you need to know about the key Secure Update *.

    (

ESXi Server 3.5 June 2011 Rollup CD image (2000593)

This Installable CD contains ESX Secure Key Update ESXe350-201012401-I-BG.

For more information about this fix, see Critical Impact: VMware ESXi 3.5, Patch ESXe350-201012401-I-BG: apply this hotfix to continue to apply patches on the ESXi 3.5 hosts after June 2011 (1030002).

NOTE: If you have not applied this patch by June 1, 2011, you will not be able to then apply patches. To get your updated hosts up-to-date with ESX Server 3i 3.5 version is to apply this Installable CD as new installation. You can also switch to ESXi 4.0 Update 1 Installable.

Thanks for your suggestions... at least it has led me to the answer.

    A clean install to come!

  • ESX 4.1 Build 260247 to 4.1 Update 1 Build 348481

What is the upgrade path?  I was able to update our server ESX 4.0 but due at the time of the new version, I had just installed 4.1 build 260247 on our new box of ESX.  Then update, we're out.  I used the Update Manager to upgrade the 4.0 server to the latest version (4.1 update 1 / 348481 to build using the file "upgrade-from-esx4.0-to-4.1-update01-348481.zip" via the Update Manager.)  Worked like a charm.  Now, oddly enough it doesn't seem to be a clear path to upgrade to 4.1 260247 4.1 Update 1 / build 348481.  I would have assumed it would be an easy task using the Update Manager.  What Miss me.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

There is no need to manually download packages of fixes. After you install and configure the Update Manager, it will show you the fixes available in the repository. All you need to do is create a baseline with updated patches 1 and attach it to objects you want. Update Manager will automatically download patches. If not already fact, take a look at http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsp_vum_41_admin_guide.pdf for more details

I have 2 area of ESX host in update 2 (#110268 build number). I upgraded one of my box with the Update Manager by creating a basaline which included upgrading esx 4 only.

So I login in the form of the console and the command of v - vmware has given me the right version number (153875).

so, what gives? Anyone know why there is an inconsistency in the VIC and the console? What I have to restart my ESX host in the order the update version number indicated by VIC?

  • Upgrading ESX 3.5 update 4 to update 5

That I improve my ESX 3.5 update 4 update 5 hosts. You advise me to do a new installation or by selecting the upgrade option? When I choose the new facility, he told me that the following non-vmfs partitions will be removed. I choose OK for that? I have already disconnected the fiber cables going to the ESX host I'm upgrading. In addition, the upgrade to ESX 4 or 5 is not an option at this point.

    Thank you

If going 3.5 U4 U5, in my opinion, I'd go with just an upgrade, not a new build.

  • ESX 3.5 Update 5 versus question 4.1 VMotion ESX

    Good afternoon

I hope it's a small question, I'll try to be concise.

Basically I have an instance of Virtual Center 2.5 Enterprise (original version) with two ESX 3.5 knots (original also build... don't read any updated). DRS and HA are enabled.

We started to exceed two knots (about 40 guests between them) and we recently ordered two new servers. Since it is several years since our first installation, we cannot buy the same materials. My understanding is that ESX 3.5 and earlier did not play really well when you introduced different hardware (servers) in a cluster. I've heard say that ESX 3.5 Update 5 (besides being current and taken in charge) remedies this problem. Is this true?

Can I update my current environment ESX 3.5 update 5 and updated to Virtual Center 2.5 update 6 and then introduce some servers intel based more recent (but similar) in the cluster without any problems (ie. Invited VMotion between all ESX 4 nodes).

Upgrade to 4.1 is more than I can swallow in the next few days, as they would result at the end of next week. I guess I can go down the licensing of two new ESX Server (ESX 4.1 licenses have been purchased for these new servers).

    Thank you

    TMR

Am I right to assume that, in this perspective, ESX 3.5 U2 and ESX 4.1 will be will be the same in terms of CPU and EVC baselines (in other words, 4.1 has an advantage here).

Yes, it's a safe assumption.  VCA Mode automatically applies the best option of compatibility possible for you, regardless of the version of ESX.  It is strictly for the CPU compatibility.

  • ESX 4.0 Update 1 vs ESX 4.0 Update 1 has

I anticipate a 3.5 to 4 ESX ESX upgrade and notes that "ESX 4.0 Update 1" (814MB ISO, build 208167) and 'Package Upgrade ESX 4.0 to ESX Server 4.0 Server Update 1 a' (739MB zip).

Hmmm... I've never known VMware to publish '1a' versions of ESX and KB article below does not reference anything other that it is more build 208167 and continues to list a set of patches.

Why would be released "1a"?  Wouldn't more typical for U1, U2, U3, etc be released and then, for patches between them, simply use the Update Manager?

I just had to ask that we start picking up my documentation and installers in preparing for this project.  Thank you.

You are right, for the upgrade of the host you should definitely use the ISO 1 update.

Sorry if I confused you with my first answer.

What I meant by "You don't have to worry about update 1 and 1 a update when you update from version 3.5" was the 1a Update doesn't have any effect on this scenario (that's why VMware has not released a new DVD image for the 1a update). 1 to update just came out to correct an installation problem when updating to 4.0 - with the HP management agents installed - update 1. The binaries are the same, there was only the installation change, as described in the article.

  • I'm under ESX 3.5 Update 3?

Sorry if a stupid question but...

I applied all the patches released in Nov/Dec and I'm running on Build No. 130756-is this to say that I am now at the same level as if I had applied the patch rather than all individual patches U3?

I've updated a host with the U3 patch and it was successful but enough course he forces do nuthin!

    See you soon

    Jon

    That sounds about right.

    3.5 Update 3 Skate is build 123630

With 12/2 patches applied, is to build 130756

If you want to see the applied patches run

    -l esxupdate query

It lists all the ESX patches applied.
