ESX 4 and licenses

Hi all

For the moment we have 3 servers ESX 4.0 and they server clustering about 15 virtual machines, we'll add another ESX Server that is version 4.1. I wonder are they always achievable on clustering?

Second where can we get / buy a license for vmware ESX?

Thirdly, where can we get taken in charge with authorized servers? or to buy some sort of helpline?

Kind regards

(1) Yes, you can group 4.0 and 4.1.  Better to get on level 4.1 if you can.

(2) from VMware directly, your favorite partner or provider server preferred.

(3) Yes, you must purchase contracts of service and support.  Again, you can get it from the same place you get the license.

  • vMotion between versions and licenses

I have a question about vMotion in vSphere 4.1.  It is primarily on licenses, as I know technically what I'm asking, it's doable.

With the inclusion of vMotion in Standard licenses, can run a mixed environment (eg. Enterprise and Standard licenses) and vMotion between hosts with different licenses?

For simplicity, assume that the environment is running 4.1.  Although if you know, could you please indicate if it would work between versions (eg. between 3.5 and 4.1 or 4.0 and 4.1).

    Thank you.

The answer you are looking for is + 5.23.2

Yes.  As long as you have licenses vMotion on all host ESX (i), and you meet the requirements of vMotion (shared storage, CPU compatibility, network, etc.) whereas there should be no problem.  Remember that if a mixed environment of VI3 and vSphere4 hosting, do not upgrade the comment tools.

  • ESX 3.5 licenses during the upgrade to vSphere

Hello all I hope someone can help me with a question of license.

Is there a way I can tell when my host ESX 3.5 license expires without a license server?

Can I take one of my vCenter 4.0 licenses and create the ESX 3.5 license file?

Or do I have to rebuild a license server to connect my ESX 3.5 hosts to? Is this really a machine virtual?

If it's important, I hope that all of my hosts built on ESXi 4.0 before the end of July.

    Thanks for the help,

You have a period of 14 days in which to run without a license server.  After 14 days (power on VMs) features become unavailable.  My recommendations:

    1. determine what day the license server was decommissioned.

2 see/var/log/vmkernel, logs files on the ESX servers to identify the first message about available license server.

3 project 14 days from the date of license server is deleted.

If you decide to try to beat the clock, doing nothing.  If you decide to license flex server backup steps below:

4 Alter the DNS name of the license server (ESX 3.5 servers point to licenses) to your new Server 4.0 vCenter.

    5. install the flex on your server vCenter 4.0 License Manager.

    6. make sure that ESX 3.5 servers are now allowed.

    7. remove the flex License Manager when the ESX 3.5 servers have disappeared.

  • ESX HA and MS Clustering

We are installin a redundant in our remote desktop, consisting of 2 servers configuration.

The idea is to bring together their ESX level and 2 virtual machines running on it as a MS. cluster

What I'm trying to understand is this:

Scenario 1: Only use 2 physical boxes with shared storage and install Cluster of MV on it. If a dialog box not - everything goes to the second

Scenario 2: Have ESX on 2 hosts, configure 2 VMs on HOST1 and configure MS Cluster between these 2 VMs. If a virtual computer fails it switches to another computer virtual with MS Clustering. If the material on HOST1 fails then the two machines are moved to the HOST2 and powered out there.

Scenario 3. 2 host ESX, VM1 runs on esxHOST1, VM2 runs on esxHOST2. Case of failure, VM1 goes to VM2 on host 2. If the on HOST1 esx1 fails it is the thing on the second host ehole.

    Issues related to the:

    1. people here wondering why we need ESX at all and I can't answer that - as without vMotion I don't see much point in having ESX HA

2, what are your property on the best HA scénarion here, venison that there will be no money allocated on vMotion or DRS.

    Thank you.

  • VMware ESX4 and license as single Cluster View4

We wanted to test VMware View for a possible deployment, so we bought 2 (10

packs of user licenses) of View3 with subscription.  So, by the time I got 4

value processors to ESX 3.5.  We put together 3 physical boxes capable of each

to organize each 4 processors.  To begin, we have 2 boxes with a single processor

each (6 cores per processor) and the 3rd box has 2 CPUs (even 6 hearts

each).  The 3 boxes are managed inside of vCenter Server 1

cluster.  The plan was to buy more licenses of view as necessary and much more

physical processors as needed.  Now, here's the problem I see.

Soon I also want to make virtualization of servers in the same cluster.  Now

that we have upgraded to View4 the authorisation system has completely changed.

Instead of one per processor, they are doing one per VM license.

    So my problem/question is...

How to make a group of ESX4 servers share licensing for both view

4 (for workstation virtualization) and the right ESX4 (virtualization server)?

As far as I can tell the new license is apples and oranges.

View is now authorized by VM and ESX is still licensed per processor.  My

thought was under the former regime of license, I was responsible for ensuring that I have

did not run workstation VMs I saw more licenses for and on the server

side have no more virtual processors dedicated virtual servers that I had

physical cores in the physical processors I distributed under license ESX.  This regime

was compatible on a single cluster.  But since I can only say an ESX

Server code for a single license whether licensed View4 or an ESX4

license, I see no way for it to shoot with the new permit system.

How to mix ESX and view within the same group?

I don't know, I'm entirely. But will try to clarify. View license has not really changed. It has always been by VM CPU not and still is. He was also THAT controlled EULA that infrastructure under license under the notice could not be used to run the office workloads. No desktop and server. Now, if you want to mix they is to make vSphere license and add the view components that do not include parts VI3/vSphere.

  • ESX 4; evaluation license; HA does not

    Hello community VMware,

I'm testing the new ESX 4 and demeanour HA (2 node cluster). I have trouble with vmware HA - VM not to switch (failover) to another ESX server in a cluster.

    My environment:

    hostA, hostB: 2 x ProLiant DL580 G5, each with Xeon of Intel (r) CPU X 7460 @ 2 .66GHz with 32 GB of ram

1 x storage - HP shared EVA - two servers see this shared storage

customer: 1 x (installed on vSphere) (client) standalone windows machine

ESX 4 - evaluation version (on the way business licenses)

3 servers are on the same NWs I use vSpehre on the client in order to manage the two ESX servers.  I clustered them (HA has been configured, the default values have been assigned). I have two test VMs (windows 2003) within the cluster. I tested VMotion - perfectly worked - I was able to move virtual machines from hostA to host b, and vice versa.

Problem is that when I reboot hostA or host b (in order to test the failover) - no failover occurs. I see hostA in State "not responding", VM is in the disconnected state.  First time I tried this (after cluster configuration), I had no errors on the console. Second time I tried this I got an error of not enough resources to satisfy HA failover. I checked the HA configuration:

    The current failover capacity: 1

    Configured with failover capacity: 1

Machine VM has only 1024 MB configured (not set limits) and it is located on the shared storage (lun 20GB, 5 GB is allocated for the system).  I've tried several things (reconfigure cluster again, clear admission control, registered between ESX/vShpere DNS, checked if I have a VMware HA between the characteristics of the license,...) - nothing helped.

I am King of stuck here and you would be grateful and tricks that I missed (probably).

    Thank you!

I am genius, and we have identified a problem. I would like to

confirm that the problem is that you are

    experience.

If the management of the network (Service Console on ESX, Case Management

checked for port on ESXi group) is located on a public network, and there is no

another network console or management service on a private network, it

can lead to a false conclusion that the failed node is always online.

    prevent a tip-over.

Please let me know if this matches your configuration. If so, a

workaround would be to set a private network for management.

A KB article addressiing this issue is in preparation.

  • Cloning and licenses

I have 16 laptops that I use for the safety tests.  They must be wiped out and reconfigured after business travel.

We have been under XP SP3 so far, but we must move on to Vista.  Professional Vista licenses are available from our KMS on the field (that I do not have access to), but we do not know how this will all work together.

When you destroy a domain Vista workstation, then reconnect it. will he get the same license?  In the same way that a machine can pull the same reserved IP address from the DHCP server, as it is MAC address has not changed?

If anyone has any advice on this subject would be great, but I guess I would especially need a resource to learn all of the questions I should ask here.  Maybe a link that explains how Vista, cloning and licenses all work together.  Sorry if this all sounds vague.

Check in the IT Pro TechNet forums forums - this kind of question is really beyond the assistance that we provide here because we support users who install Vista for single computer use.

  • Windows 8 store problem of cache and licenses

    Hello

I recently bought a computer dell laptop Windows 8. I have a few problems in the windows store. I'm unable to update or check out all the new apps on the store. I continue to by clicking on the icons of application but nothing downloads and updates existing fail as well. When the troubleshooter in Windows 8 App running it is said that ' Windows store cache and licenses can be corrupt " I cleared caches and updated licenses both manually and through the application of the resolution of the problems, but the problem persists and I get the same message of the cache corrupted every time troubleshooting tool. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

Thank you very much for your reply, Prandeep :)

I have no day my computer, nor have I received error messages. I could scroll down and browse the store but it was insensitive to all clicks I did, so I was not able to download/update anything

When running the troubleshooter, I still got the message on corrupt cache even after fixing using the Troubleshoot utility.

However, I have just above, came the problem. I have consulted the storage of the C drive windows folder and manually created a cache folder.

I read the solution on a Web tech site and it worked for me.

Will put in place a link here for all other people facing the same problem, as soon as I find them still.

  • What groups safety and licensing for developers and the bulk API?

I am currently working on the API integration in bulk of our SaaS product to Eloqua customer instance.  General requirements include read a list of contact lists and then adding/setting day of Contacts in a list.  They sent us a list of groups of security and licensing options and asked us to the API user account and a user account temporary developer/Tester (check that data arrives intact in Eloqua).  Here's what I assumed from documentation and the discussions here, but someone can tell me if this is correct?

    User of the API (permanent)

Required permissions: "Everyone," "Users of the API," "user - Marketing base" (to access Contacts or 'Advanced users - Marketing' if "custom objects" access?)

    License: no

    Temporary interactive user to developer/Tester

Required permissions: "Everyone", "Basic Marketing - users" (and, possibly, 'Advanced users - Marketing' if "custom objects" access?)

    License: Eloqua Marketing Platform

The other element that I see referenced in the code examples is the specifier "site" or "instance".  What format does it take, and where I can tell the client to search for it in their console Eloqua?

    Thank you

    Richard

    Hi Richard,

    Let's simplify things a bit...

For the use of the API (one of them!), you should have User API and Marketing advanced - users.  This warranty covers the basics.

Licensing should only come into play for things as endpoints to deliver.

Until the 'site' or 'instance', it is the simple name of the company and is when the user connects to Eloqua.

    Hope that helps!

  • vSphere 4.1 5 upgrade and licensing issues

I currently have two server PowerEdge 2900. They each have two processors to 4 cores of each and 24 GB of RAM. Each server has a license in advance of vSphere 4 for 2 physical processors (1-12 cores). I also have vCenter 4 Foundation installed and licensed.

I am looking to buy a new PowerEdge 620 with 2 processors, 8 cores each, and 128 GB of RAM.

I want to do the following.

    1) upgrade the vCenter 4 to 5 license. Upgrade 2 CPUs with a value of 4 advance to 5 Enterprise vSphere vSphere licenses.

    2) update my installation of vCenter vCenter 4 5.

    (3) install ESXi 5 on new server PowerEdge 620.

    (4) migrate all virtual machines (guests) to a PowerEdge 2900 server to the new server 620.

    (5) Server Decomission the 2900 now blank.

    (6) keep the other server 2900 HA around and the low priority. VMs (I'm undecided as to whether I should upgrade to ESXi 5 on this one).

Changes to licenses of 4 to 5 seems like a maze, but according to my calculations, 2 processors of licence 4 set to upgrade to 5, should give me enough for 2 CPUs and 128 GB of vRAM on the 620. It's my first time going through an upgrade like this, so I was hoping that someone with more experience could weigh in on this plan. I'm completely missing something, and he will be missed horribly? Any extra info / advice is appreciated.

    Thank you

... it is said that the old license get deactivated after the new ones are issued...

Don't worry about this. Only old license on the portal keys will be disabled when you upgrade the key to v5. There is no license on your systems check, which will disable the host or vCenter Server.

    André

PS: Although there is no verification of the license, it is your responsibility to ensure that the old and the new licenses are not used simultaneously. It would be a violation of the EULA.
