ESXi 4.1 installation

Hello to all,

I'm new and thank you for welcoming me amongst you. I am also new in the use of ESXi

My question is this, I installed ESXi 4.1 but I have a problem with the car license when I go in Vsphere can

in the House in the administration part I only have roles and system of newspapers and not allowed.

When I start Vsphere that tells me:

Your evaluation license will expire in 59 days

When the Evaluation license expire...

Assign a licensed the ESXi hosts

I do not understand how to install ESXi with a license.

Someone could he give me a privilege to a tuto pour standard installation

Thank you to all.

KNPC

Hello

From what I understand you works offline (without Vcenter server), so pay that you can not find the license on the home page Manager.

Pour adding a license to your host ESX (i), you simply connects you to your host via Vsphere, then:

Home page-inventory - this position on the host -------configuration \Fonctions allowed------affect a new license key and off you go.

Nice day.

  • Confused in what I need [ESXi Embedded; ESX Installable; ESX 3.5]

    Hello team.

Let me explain what I first: I need to run 6 virtual machines and manage these 6 VMs through a single window. I might be able to manage all VMs 6 using the single window (in general-, this could be any application). To manage, I mean, create snapshots, go back, use them as if I had VMware workstation. I don't need any other features. I'm looking in the plug of the machine: Quad core; 8 GB; SATA RAID.

Now my question is how do I select ESXi Embedded or Installable or standalone ESX. Is there documentation that shows these differences or videos showing what are interfaces?

I read the difference between ESXi and ESX and it was something citing on linux required for ESX. Does this mean that my whitebox will need Linux installed before that I could install ESX?

ESXi is barebone architecture, which means, I'll lose admin capabilities?

You think, with these questions, am confused? Thanks for any help in advance

Novice user with virtualization - Manny

    Hello Manny,

In fact, it's the same interface and the program, you use esx and esxi.

Free ESXi, esx costs money and can do all kinds of magic to keep near 100% availability.

You will need to have an admin on windows pc to run the VI client from.

The VI-client (or VMware Infrastructure client) connects to your host, and from there, you can create new guests, create the snapshot, return etc.

NO, you don't need linux. In fact my esx 3i is booting from a USB key no OS is required on the hard disk.

I have attached a photo where you can see the interface to manage hosts.

  • ESXi 6.0 installer did not drive on the second Raid Controller

    Hello!

I want to improve my Testserver of 5.5 to 6.0.

The server is an ML370 G5 with controller P400 Smar table 2.

But the installer 6.0 only to find the drive on the first controller (Slot 1).

If I change the disks from one controller to another, the installation program are the other disks.

    I used VMware-VMvisor-Installer - 6.0.0 - 2494585.x86_64.iso.

I was able to install and everthing workes of other purpose, except the disk on the second controller P400.

In/proc/driver/cciss/cciss * all this drive listed there.

Anyone has a suggestion for me

    Thanks Andreas

    Hello

We faced the same problem.  The P400 is no longer supported. Nor is the P600 and I don't think that the P800 is either.  Check the HCL.  You must stay on 5.5.  Same HP dropped support in his favor

VMware KB: Obsolete and unsupported features in VMware ESXi 6.0

"Some devices are deprecated in ESXi 6.0. During an upgrade, these device drivers can still be installed on ESXi 6.0 host and can continue to function, but the device is no longer officially supported on ESXi 6.0 "

So basically you are lucky that he finds at least one of them.  Weird he did not find the two, but no matter what is not supported

  • ESXI 5.5 installation problem...

I use USB to update my ESXI 5.1 to 5.5, but when installation of the files loading process stops at LSI_mr3.v00. Who can tell me why? Or is there something wrong with my ISO file, who can give me some value to check my ISO 5.5, as MD5?

Most of the major suppliers is supported, check the hardware compatibility list http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php

  • VMware ESXi 5.1 Installation repair

I have a 5.1 host that does not load. I'm trying to find how to fix the esxi installation 5.1. When I boot to the iso installation that was used, I'd expect a repair option.

    Hello

You do not have an option of repair on ESXi. Once you start with Installation ISO. continue upwards and on the next screen, promt, you will be prompted with a startup message

found the existing VMFS partition found. you want to keep the partition, select Yes.

If you have the host as disconnected or no answer yet on the vCenter server take a screenshot of your host-network--.configuration guts to networking. You will lose

network config and the need to recreate the same. But you can save your data from VMFS partition.

  • Reference Dell M620 and M820 ESXi 5.1 installation

I'm relatively new to VMware on Dell hardware. The closest thing that I believe to a custom image is 'VMware ESXi 5.1 update 1 Image Recovery"(http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/driverdetails?driverid=RD5JN). I assumed it to be ESXi 5.1 update 1 with favorite Dell specifc driver packages. I had planned to use this new installs feeling that it would include the latest drivers for my Dell M620 and M820s and would be preferable to base VMware image.

    1. It is the support for the installation of these blades?
    2. The description says « Ce ISO image should only be used to restore/reinstall VMware ESXi on image for SD Card/USB Key on the supported Dell platforms. »
      • I am confused by the specification 'only' restore/reinstall and not install.
      • Also confused by the mention of the only card SD and USB to the apparent exclusion of standard hard drives.

I installed with it as a test and it looks good, but I'm uncomfortable with the description. I would be grateful for any additional information or insight to those who support ESXi in Dell stores.

    Hi vmproteau,

Here are my answers to your question based on my experience. I have no experience with the M620 or M820 I manages around 240 M610, 60 R710, the R720 10, so I am familiar with Dells ESXi 5.1 servers update 1.

    (1) Yes, I would recommend using the ISO provided Dell printer if you are not familiar with creating your own package with the necessary drivers and firmware.

    (2) this ISO standard will include all drivers for supported Dell servers and some customizations of Dell and can be used for new installations regardless of the storage (SD, USB or HD Local) option. I would like to look out for is mainly to make sure that you update the firmware on all of your blades with the most recent available by Dell that ESXi is very picky with the pilot and also incompatible firmware Dell CMC with thanks to a few mistakes from time to time.

    Kind regards

  • ESXI 5.0 installs but won't start

I bought a test computer to try to esxi and run some windows xp vm, the motherboard is Intel and Corsair SSD hard drive (pc is new), I performed the installation and it reported no network card which was an Intel onboard, so I bought a Sunix card and installation continued without error, but when I restart the machine It's as if there is no boot sector or operating system installed on the drive and it does not start.

Have you changed the type of controller in the BIOS? When you use an SSD you to change AHCI SATA controller (or other). You also need to enable virtualization technology. Check the manufacturer's guide to activate that...

  • ESXi 4 IBM Installation

    Dear all

I currently have 7 Host which are all IBM X series servers running all ESXi 4.1.

If my interpretation is correct... in order to use IBM UpdateXpress on those hosts that I will need to replace the version of ESXi, who is currently on the version of IBM of ESXi hosts?

So my first question is... is the above correct?

My second question is... can I install this on my current version without losing all settings such as the IP address maps NIC etc...  I do not have any virtual computer running on the local disks of the hosts they are all stored on a large unit of SAN.

Is there someone who has done this procedure?

    Thank you very much

    Concerning

    Glen

ISO 4U1 IBM - Customized ESXi can be downloaded here: http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/x/os/vmware/esxi/

Note: The ISO standard adds IBM HSI and sensors for additional hardware-specific drivers.  (For example, on a HS22V blade, one 23 additional hardware sensors are added by using the ISO IBM custom.)  I recommend that you reinstall using it when you can, but be aware that you will lose the vSwitch configuration and IP information for your guests.

For updates of the firmware, you can use one of the packs of UpdateXpress, but my personal preference is the creator of Bootable media, which you can download here: http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/docdisplay?lndocid=TOOL-BOMC

With this tool, you can create bootable USB keys to use for the update of system firmware (very convenient for systems without the Virtual Media Key option or a local optical drive.)

No matter what option you choose, the IBM-recommended sequence of update for the update of the firmware of type code is:

    1 IMM, followed

    2 UEFI, ending with

    3 Diags.

Edit: I probably would add that it is supported by VMware to install the patches of VMware to an ESXi system that was originally installed from a custom ISO IBM.  It is not supposed to affect these customizations (well, I have not met all situations where it has not yet.)

(You will also lose Resource Pool configurations when you reinstall, and NTP settings, etc.)  Basically, everything you did in the Configuration tab after the initial installation will have to be redone, with the exception of storage shared.  Your shared data warehouses should appear with the entire virtual machine on them intact.  "But, you may need to do a new analysis, or simply wait until a new scheduled scan occurs, before they will appear again.)

  • ESXi 4.1 installation problem

Current running in an error message when you try to install ESXi 4.1 on a USB stick on a new generation of server. I use the VMware-VMvisor-Installer - 4.1.0 - 260247.x86_64.iso image. After that some research on Google, it seems that there might be a problem of compatibility of equipment? I tried to disable AHCI, unplug the WD drive, by disabling the two network cards. No one changed anything. I have a feeling that maybe that's a problem of compatibility of the mother/cpu card, but I'm not really sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would like to decomission my old server as soon as possible!

    Here's the equipment I use:

Here is a screenshot of the error message I get:

ESXi is not able to recognize a NETWORK card in the system.   You can add something like an Intel Pro 1000, or you can read the article of oem.tgz on vm - Help.com for a driver.

  • ESXi 4.0 installation

    Hey,.

For the first time ESXer long itme IT... nerd...

I met a problem right from the door when you try to install esxi 4.0 on my PowerEdge 2850. When it goes through its unpacking (VMkboot.gz, vmkernel.gz, sys.vgz and cim.vgz) installation files happens to cim.vgz and - error ' Fatal: out of memory reading cim.vgz "and attempts to restart the installation.

I was able to load several different OS on this box without problem, until now ESXi has been the only one to give me questions.

    Any advice would be wonderful

  • HP ESXi 4.1 installation CD

We are mainly HP datacenter. I am aware of the installation of HP ESXi ISO. I think the only change is the inclusion of HP specific CIM providers. So now I could use VMware software and updated ICD drivers separately or simply use the device all inclusive HP install software.

I've been kind of edge when talking about ESXi embedded but, really, I don't like the idea of specific versions of the ESX software vendor as much. I think I'm leaning towards keeping the updates of ICD as a separate process and stick with VMware ISOs.

Someone at - he of the additional thoughts on this?

There was a discussion about this a few days ago, which you may want to read - http://communities.vmware.com/message/1657795

My personal preference is to install the 'original' VMware image and add CIM providers as needed.

  • ESXi 4.1 installer shows that there is no space at all on a 1 GB USB key!

    Hello world

I have just a quick question that was so irritating for centuries. I downloaded ESXi 4.1 & want to install on a USB key, so far, I have been unsuccessful using WinImage, so I thought I would try using the installer itself esxi to stick on the USB key.

When it displays the list of available drives, the USB displays, but there is 0.00 bytes available for installation, yet the Flash drive has been formatted on two FAT (32) and NTFS.

everyone seems to have this same problem, and is there a quick and simple solution that I can't find?
