• Reference Dell M620 and M820 ESXi 5.1 installation

  I'm relatively new to VMware on Dell hardware. The closest thing that I believe to a custom image is 'VMware ESXi 5.1 update 1 Image Recovery"(http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/driverdetails?driverid=RD5JN). I assumed it to be ESXi 5.1 update 1 with favorite Dell specifc driver packages. I had planned to use this new installs feeling that it would include the latest drivers for my Dell M620 and M820s and would be preferable to base VMware image.

  1. It is the support for the installation of these blades?
  2. The description says « Ce ISO image should only be used to restore/reinstall VMware ESXi on image for SD Card/USB Key on the supported Dell platforms. »
     • I am confused by the specification 'only' restore/reinstall and not install.
     • Also confused by the mention of the only card SD and USB to the apparent exclusion of standard hard drives.

  I installed with it as a test and it looks good, but I'm uncomfortable with the description. I would be grateful for any additional information or insight to those who support ESXi in Dell stores.

  Here are my answers to your question based on my experience. I have no experience with the M620 or M820 I manages around 240 M610, 60 R710, the R720 10, so I am familiar with Dells ESXi 5.1 servers update 1.

  (1) Yes, I would recommend using the ISO provided Dell printer if you are not familiar with creating your own package with the necessary drivers and firmware.

  (2) this ISO standard will include all drivers for supported Dell servers and some customizations of Dell and can be used for new installations regardless of the storage (SD, USB or HD Local) option. I would like to look out for is mainly to make sure that you update the firmware on all of your blades with the most recent available by Dell that ESXi is very picky with the pilot and also incompatible firmware Dell CMC with thanks to a few mistakes from time to time.

• EQL MEM Kit - active paths reduced from 4 to 2 after the installation of SDK Dell MEM

  We currently have 1 group EQL which EQL 1, PS6100XS member. The PS6100XS Member currently has 3 data warehouses. In courses run ESXi 6.0 u2 and MEM kit 1.3.0.410095 (dell-eql-mem-esx6 - 1.3.0.410095). The ESXi host has 4 network dedicated to EQL iSCSI adapters. All networks are confirmed to be installed properly with good ESXi iSCSI Port binding.

  Before you install the SDK Dell MEM on the ESXi host, active paths in the vSphere EQL data store shows 4 paths. After you install the SDK Dell MEM, it correctly sets the path to DELL_PSP_ROUTED but the railways reduced to 2 for each data store:

  

  Note: it is not a high volume of traffic again on data warehouses because it was such an environment relatively new.

  Hello Saud,

  This behavior is quite normal.  MEM and the table negotiating connections as needed.  Each connection consumes memory on the table, reducing the County means that more memory is available for the cache.

  I seem to have a problem. I improved our environment vSphere 5.1 to 5.5, so I also wanted to upgrade the DELL MEM.

  Setup.pl - Server = xxxxx - bundle = dell-eql-mem-esx5 - 1.2.0.365964 but it tells me that it is already installed. ???

  So I run a Setup.pl - Server = xxxxxx - query and it tells me "Found Dell EqualLogic Multipathing Extension Module installed: 1.1.1 - 262227.

  It is an even older than than iv'e installed in the first place. I have installed version 1.1.1 - 262227 then why does it say that? and why can't I njot install a new version?

  MEM 1.1.2 is the 1.1.1. Version.  The difference between 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 is that a configuration file had to be changed show their support for ESXi v5.1.  This file only showed compatibilitty with ESXi v5.0, causing the installation will fail if you use the VMware Update Manager.  Thus, the version number of the actual code has not changed in 1.1.2.

  I suggest to uninstall MEM 1.1.2 then try to install 1.2.0.

  Previously on my hosts ESXi 4.1 I could quite easily set up the MEM from Dell (1.1). Now, I am trying to install 1.2 on a 5.5 ESXI host (new installation always in eval mode).

  I have a new installation of vSphere-VMware-CLI - 5.5.0 - 2043780 however, every time that I run the setup.pl

  for example setup.pl - configure - server = 10.2.6.xx

  I get the following (tried on 3 different PCs).

  Script using vSphere CLI which is based on PERL and the question is what minumum Version is necessary and if there is a reason why the SOAP package is missing, because it looks like it is already partially installed on your system.

  So go to vmware.com and install the vSphere CLI or vSphere Perl SDK for WINDOWS. You can install only one version of this package. After that, open a new shell window and try again.

  Do not confuse on vSphere PowerCLI which is the Powershell Version of the vSphere API.

  BTW. We use VUM or esxcli to install the MeM, but you must configure the vNetworking and iSCSI binding manually or by using a profile of the host.

• Install on the new instance of SCOM 2012 Dell management packs, questions...

  I was given a task to install SCOM 2012 to monitor a lot of servers, including Dell.  Problem that I am running is when I try to install the Dell Management Pack, it keeps asking me for the Dell device to support COM + user/pass.  I put in the account to use us to access these machines, but it does not work.  I tried a few other user/pass, but nothing seems to work.  I'm really new to Dell servers (first time I'm doing business with them) so not sure what is the problem.  I can't find the good research to find a solution to this problem.

  Can anyone offer some advice?

  To extract members without providing identification of the AD information, you can run the Setup program on your desktop computer / laptop (no Windows Server version). The credentials of the AD are required for the configuration of a DLL, which is necessary for servers using WS - MAN (called Out-Of-Band followed in the product documentation).

• NFS problem after upgrade to vSphere, ESXi 5.0 5.1

  I installed / updated on a Dell r.620 Server ESXi 5.0 5.1 vSphere
  I also have an ESXi installed 5.0 an another r.620 Dell both connected to a Snyology Racksation via NFS. (at different volumes)
  Now, I have the problem that I can't install an OS (Windows XP, Windows 8, Windows 7) located on an NFS share in a new created virtual machine.
  I am not connected without vCenter, just with the vSphere Client direct connected.
  The system boots, but I can not choose to install the operating system on the new created VMDK but then nothing happens.
  I also tried to format the drive before installation, formatting breaks down after 15 minutes with the message: "unable to format the drive...". 0 x 80070057 ".
  When the virtual machine is on the local storage of the VM to the server, everything works fine.
  I can also install and start virtual machines on the same NFS with an ESXi 5.0 share.
  Formerly installed VMs can also start. All hung on the windows logo screen and the German Embassy "Comuptereinstellungen werden übernommen"... for over an hour...
  The same virtual machines work fine on the ESXi 5.0, located on the same NFS share.
  But on the NFS share, I can write and read the data with the Client vSphere (on configuration-> storage) with no problems, so I guess that there is a problem with the NFS, permissions etc volume.
  So I guess there must be a problem with the NFS share on vSphere Host 5.1.

  Paso a mi explain problema: Tengo virtualizado bajo Vmware Esxi 4.1, a Server 2008 64 bit R2, in el cual tengo back discos duros (office), 30 GB C: y 120 GB D:. Problema mi ha venido a raiz that el espacio in the unidad C: (disco del sistema), quedo muy pequeño. Entonces, procedi a MV e incrementar el tamano para a 80 GB, en the config of the MV. Al iniciarlo posteriormente, vi in the system, the administration of Equipos en, as el disco C: seguia a 30 GB pero that tapeworm 50 GB mas particionados, pero sin iniciar in el mismo disco.

  Reading en Internet, procedi a unite las back particiones, mediante misma tool del Windows 2008. Al reiniciar MV, in the administration of equipos, el disco duro C: is 80 GB, pero UN disco como muestra if lo veo por el explorador, el disco duro con sigue UN size of 30 GB y espacio 0Ko I have.

  Why el Explorador de Windows me sigue showing el tamano antiguo y tanto el administrator of discos, como el diskpart me than muestra el disco-tiene 80 GB?... What me falta hacer o what he done wrong?

  My company has just purchased a new Dell PowerEdge T610 as our first server VM. They bought exactly the same configuration that Dell recommended for virtualization, which came with an option to get the ESXi 4.0 embedded.   I'm trying to understand how to configure a dedicated server of Dell R210 rented running VMware ESXi 5.1.0 build-799733

  This dedicated server is rented www.online.net and sits somewhere in France. One of its network adapters have an IP public 62.210.177.20x. The other NIC is here, but I do not understand how it is configured. According to the www.online.net portal, the other NETWORK card has or should have an IP 10.90.116.20x. I managed to make it appear the other interface but I cannot find anywhere how to assign the IP address 10.90.116.20x to this 2^nd network adapter. But then again I don't even know if I should or if I need to assing a IP address to this 2^nd network adapter. What is the cable connected even for this 2^nd NIC? I do not know. Should it be - I'm not either. I don't know French and manuals/instructions on www.online.net are in French. I can try an online translator, but I don't think that what I'm looking for is explained. How do I get this set up? I have to do something about the ESXi on the server console? This interface 2^nd should be in place, or it must be down as if it was originally? Yesterday after watching someone videos on YouTube, I added the second virtual switch and moved the virtual hosts of this switch 2 and he entrusted the 2^nd NIC.
