ESXi 4 hardware compatibility

During the installation of the ESXi 4 with the iso file, I read this error message:

Could not load the module/usr/lib/vmware/vmkmod/vmfs3

Can someone tell me if this error message is on the HCL?

Here are the main components of my workstation:

Motherboard: ASUS P6TD Deluxe

CPU: Intel Core i7 930

Thank you very much

mikynik

Can you the exact model of your Intel PRO/1000 NETWORK interface card?

Some models use igb driver which can be downloaded here http://downloads.vmware.com/d/details/esx_esxi40_intel_82575_82576_dt/ZHcqYmR0QGpidGR3

That does not "response" from MS Support Engineer Umesh was particularly useless.

Unfortunately for you, the HCL XP (or Windows Catalog or Windows Marketplace or whatever it is renamed) no longer exists.  I guess Microsoft is not particularly interested in letting you know what the material is compatible with an operating system that is no longer, it sells and supports only.

The trail begins here: "the latest Windows XP Hardware Compatibility List" (314062 KB) that leads to theWindows 7 Compatibility Center.  KB 314062 is also linked to the http://www.windowsmarketplace.com/ which used to have a list of compatible with XP hardware and software, but now redirects to the Microsoft store, another dead end that XP is concerned.

If you really want to dig, your best bet is probably used the Wayback Machine (archive.org) looking for old copies of

Go ahead and install the equipment.  If you're worried, see the web site of the manufacturer to ensure that you have the latest version of the driver there (it may be newer than the driver on the CD that came with the hardware).

You won't see a lot of products these days with the Windows XP logo on them because Windows XP is no longer sold by Microsoft and the hardware vendors are focusing on Windows 7.

The list of hardware compatibility XP (or what was her last name) seems to have disappeared from microsoft.com, but the following information of theversion of Windows 7 is basically the same as it was for XP:

The "Compatible" green check icon means the manufacturer of the device or software that this product works with 64-bit or 32-bit Windows 7. Generally, you won't need to do anything to ensure compatibility, and you will see "no action is needed" below "Compatible" on the product details page. However, if a manufacturer or Publisher offers or requires additional software or a newer version, you will find a link to what you need and see the details to the right of the link. Please note that these products have not been "Compatible with Windows 7" Logo program compatibility testing In addition, consult the manufacturer or the site of the Publisher for more information.

"Compatible - Windows 7 Logo" means that this product meets requirements for compatibility with 64-bit and 32-bit Windows 7 from Microsoft. To get the "Compatible with Windows 7" logo, software and hardware must pass tests installation, performance, reliability, and security of Microsoft designed so you can be sure that these products are compatible with Windows 7.

Almost always, if the manufacturer says that its product is "compatible with" a version of Windows, it is safe to install.

    Salvation;

I was wondering what the "normal" procedure, when you upgrade the workstation 7 to 8. It is expected that you would normally hold the VM "hardware compatibility at the old level 6-7', or it is expected that you would usually improve the old VM to version 8?" (At least presuming you don't have all the questions where you need to maintain compatibility with other VMware products...).

I imagine that in both cases you normally install tools version 8. I have Windows 7, Windows XP and Linux Guests.

  • publish server esxi and CPU/hardware compatibility .vmx files.

    Hello

I have images that have been created and run on my laptop. (architecture intel, 3 GB)

I recently downloaded them to the ESXi 4.0.0 server via the client and unfortunately the images do not work when I import them into inventory.

The server is a dual proc AMD based on HP Proliant server.

    They appear unknown.

Is it because of the hardware/cpu does not?

you shouldn't have any problems, run the virtual machine.  I think that your problem is based around the process that allowing you to move the virtual machine.

And everyone tells me what VMW_SATP_ALUA mode and average VMW_SATP_DEFAULT_AA?

    I couldn't find a description in textbooks.

    http://www.VMware.com/resources/compatibility/detail.php?device_cat=San & DEVICE_ID = 4582

    Thank you.

    Hello

ESX and ESXi are the same supported storage or SAN configurations.

Extracted from documents of different providers (VMware, NetApp...):

    "

ALUA (asymmetric logical unit access) is a standard protocol for the identification of paths optimized between a storage system and a host computer. The administrator of the host computer has no need to manually select paths to use.

ESX host support ALUA with certain combinations of ESX system and storage configurations.

VMW_SATP_ALUA: supports arrays that use the ALUA Protocol

    VMW_SATP_DEFAULT_AA: supports active/active arrays

    "

If your configuration will support the two parameters. Either correct you the preferred path, or you activate ALUA mode on your storage space and hospitality and let you decide on the optimal trajectory.

    It will be useful.

  • Tecra A7-117 T2300------hardware compatibility with Linux SuSE or RedHat?

    Hello world

I'm a linux newbie and I tried installing SuSE Linux 10.0.
But the graphics of the docking station and for the network adapter card is not recognized.

The graphics card is ATI Mobility Radeon X 1400 HyperMemory and the ATI driver is available
on the Web site. I guess that this ATI driver installation can be avoided...

The network adapter is Gigabit-Ethernet type.

Note = After browsing Internet, I read that a version of Xandros can work...

If someone managed by installing just SuSE Linux or RedHat on a laptop Tecra A7-117?
If successful, tell me what version?
Do you not think that it will be useful to try the "SuSE Linux 10.1" Live-DVD?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello

I use a live Knoppix CD on my Satellite and it works properly.
Sorry, but I don t know about the compatibility of Suse on the Tecra A7.
Always is it that it is not very easy to install Linux distributions on laptops, because there is no drivers for Linux.
Especially the original drivers of manufacturing are needed to use the operating system on laptop computers.
To my knowledge, Toshiba doesn't supports Linux.

But I found a few sites Web from Toshiba for Linux:

  • Dc7900: Hardware compatibility with HP DC7900

    Hello everyone.

I have a question: I need to change the RAM and add a Video card in my PC Desktop DC7900.

I already opened it, and saw that the RAM compatibility is as "with the hole in the middle of the RAM"

    So I guess it's DDR2 I have to buy.

Do you think this RAM"PC Core 2 Duo 1 GB 240-pin DDR2 800 Mhz"is compatible with this desktop computer?

Instead, for the video card, do you think this 512 MB nVidia MSI NVIDIA GeForce 310 Lenovo 57Y4397 VGA Display Port Low Profile (that is the shape of the SFF) video card is Compatible?

I thank very you much in advance!

    You are the very welcome.

I do not see where the form indicates that memory is non - ECC, unbuffered.  It must be non - ECC, unbuffered.

The nVidia video card will probably work.

But because I know that the pieces I used to walk, I can't tell you for sure 100% that those you want to buy is guarantedd at work.

  • Hardware compatibility

I bought a replacement (type G5370uk) similar / copy motherboard from the internet. He refused to accept that my new systems reset diskette, or all the discs to re - install or reset Windows. I'm trying to replace/fix without having to buy a new Windows installation disc. Would be a different motherboard, this time purchased from HP, mean duty bin the new systems factory rest of discs and buy another Windows installation, or not, or a purchased HP Board work and accept reset disks? What hyperlink will make me to the store to buy another card mother HP OK?

If you initially installed a replacement motherboard which was in all respects identical to the original, that you could have just connected everything and started right in Windows.

HAL (hardware abstract layer) of the operating system requirements would have been met and the system of opaerating would have been unconscious because something has changed.

  • Sanity Check: Hardware compatibility: vMotion/CPU/VCA etc.

    Hi all

We currently have a DRS cluster with 6 hosts Dell Poweredge R610 with Intel Xeon 5540 or 5530 processors which, according to article KB (http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1991) are in Group D for the vMotion compatibility. (Nehalem-EP)

I want to add new hosts to the cluster and try again Dell R620s. These have Xeon CPU E5-2640. I can't find an article with the same level of detail for the new processors. The compatibility guide Vmware tells me that it is a Sandy bridge processor?

If I add hosts with newer processors to the cluster, be they work? Or do I have to turn on some sort of CVS mode?

If I read this article (KB VMware: best vMotion compatibility (EVC) processor support ) he gives to think that I would need to market the VCA Level2 (Nehalem). This would be 'disable' have the CPU features in the new host beyond what former processors... But what happens in 'x' time of years when all guests have disappeared - presumbaly I can then disable compatibility EVC mode so that all the features of the CPU are presented? This would have a negative impact on existing virtual machines?

Please could someone health mental check me or point me in the direction of something to reassure me?

    Thanks in advance

NB. Currently on vSphere 4.0, but the upgrade to 5/5.1 soon.

I suppose that once the VCA mode is activated, it will always be equal to the level of the 'down' (older?) (In this case Nehalem) CPU level up to what the last host with Nehalem processors is removed from the cluster.

    Yes, that's correct.
