Purchase / construction server to run ESXi - hardware compatibility

I need to buy or build a platform of 64-bit server running Windows 2008/Exchange 2007.

I would like to run on VMWare / ESXi for the independence of the material.

Please direct me to a hardware compatibility list to make sure that I don't end up with a hardware configuration, I can't use!

Thank you

  • 2 guests on 1 physical server (running ESXi 5.5)?

Hi, first of all... I'm new to VMware, I have 1 server Dell PowerEdge R420 in my new company that is used for virtual machines (running ESXi 5.5)... and I've been through, there 2 hosts running in 2 IP ranges, each host contains a few virtual machines... is it possible to have 2 guests on 1 Physical (ESXi) or am I wrong somewhere ?

A nice man, it's what I told you about my last post, which should be another host in a remote area.

  • Convert an Esxi 4 2 Server VM runs extremely slow

    Hello

I am very new to virtualization and have just the configuration server ESXi 4 that will replace the VM Server 2 systems we tested.  Recently, I tried to convert one of my server-2 VMs (Using the 'Converter Standalone Client') a VM (Version 7) Infrastructure.  After two days of continuous operation, the converter was only 5% finished and was transferring data to 24 kb/s (the server is ~ 150 GB in size).  This seems to be extremely slow and I hope that there is something that I can do to speed up that this server should run during opening hours and I like that, I can't take it down more than the weekend.

I ran the converter Client on the server that hosts the virtual machine, and that server and the ESXi have dual network adapters connected to a managed switch of FD 100 MB.  (They are both on the same switch).  The virtual machine was not working and there was almost no other network activity going on during the conversation.

    Any help is appreciated

The goal is to eliminate the things that it is not. Download your installation as simple as possible. I don't know what your problem is, but it certainly seems like a network problem. A single 100 MB network adapter should work much faster than the speed you receive.

Other things to eliminate are pass the port problems, configuration issues, cable issues, NIC

Run something like wireshark as you begin your conversion. See if you notice any problems in the capture.

Create a new fresh installation of the VM on the ESXi host and check the flow rate etc. You don't want to go to production if you have problems. Monday will not be fun if you do.

  • Activation of Windows still necessary even if the virtual server on the same hardware to restore

Hello, I hope someone can answer this.

Our virtual machine running vmware server ESX 3i 3.5.0 has 2 hard drives, datastore1 and datastore2.   All of our virtual servers are stored in datastore2.   Our hard disk with the datastore2 crashed and he had to be replaced.    We have backups of our virtual servers in datastore2 virtual appliance.

To solve the problem, we replaced the hard drive crashed and then restored by using the virtual appliance backups, once restored, we noticed that the Windows 2008 requires that the activation of the licenses.

My question is why does windows need activation when we restored the virtual server for the same hardware? The only thing that has changed is the hard drive.

Thanks for any help on this issue.

Export/import unfortunately OVFs does not have an option (at least I'm not aware) to maintain these settings. What you can do - when exporting the virtual machine as an OVF - also download the machine virtual . VMX and .vmxf files. After re - import the OVF, remove it the ESXi host inventory, download the two * .vmx files and add the virtual machine to inventory. -Once asked if you copied or moved the VM on the first power-select "I moved it.

  • Home Server - Help Build ESXi

    Hey,.

I struggled to create a base of ESXi due to compatibility server.  Here's my current version:

    Intel i7 4790

    Gigabyte Z97 - HD3

2 x 1 TB Western Digital hard drives (SATA)

    Ballistix 16 GB DDR - 1866

I realize that my motherboard is not compatible (now that I bought it).  First of all, it was the NIC, now he does not see the HARD drive.  I bought an Intel NIC who works with ESXi.  If I buy a RAID controller, that gets me around the issue of compatibility?  Did I meet problems more?  Or what is the motherboard cheaper who will work with a LGA1150?  I struggled with this too much and I just want to find the easiest way to make this work .

Thank you very much for your help.

    Hey Mate,

    I recently bought a card mother-GA-Z97M-D3H (with i7 4790) to run ESXI 5.5

I'm came across this post while searching for an answer - I found one, so I thought I'd share (should work as well for your motherboard, I don't think there is a big difference).

The answer lies in the drivers, ESXi 5.5 does not have the drivers of NETWORK card or sata-xachi right.

You can get these in a format VIB here:

(File VIB itself) NIC VIB file: www.tinkertry.com/install-esxi-5-5-with-realtek-8111-or-8168-nic/

(File VIB in the links at the bottom of this page) sata-xachi: http://vibsdepot.v-front.de/wiki/index.php/sata-xahci (this site seems broken, if you are looking for and go through the main page, it can charge, it is a copy - paste the right link...)

Then, you will need to inject into the iso ESXi 5.5 via the customizer of ESXi (www.v-front.de/p/esxi-customizer.html).

Then install your iso ESXi personalized on your machine (I used Rufus for this: https://communities.vmware.com/thread/457760 ).

    Good luck!

p.s. the VIB attached files if you do not want to visit the sites.

  • Can I have a free server backup or extra esxi 5.5, as a backup to my other server host free esxi 5.5?

    Hello.

I have a server free single esxi 5.5, operation of the virtual machine from one storage device shared iSCSI.

Where it breaks down, can I have a free host of alternative esxi 5.5 manually that lights up, and start the virtual machine to this shared storage server? Sort of a manual of high availability?

Yes, it should work, assuming that the ESXi version is the same (i.e. hardware version of the virtual machine is supported by the two hosts).

As long as you don't try marketing the virtual machine of these two hosts at the same time, you should be fine in a VMware perspective.

However, please keep in mind that - according to the physical hardware - it might be possible that, for example, Windows requires a reactivation.

  • ESX 4.0 hardware compatibility

    Hello

I would like to install ESX 4.0 to the practice of upgrading to later versions of ESX 4.0 as U1 - U4 and 4.1.  I don't have much material available and a small budget.  Finally, it's will be a 3rd VM Server that will host our data recovery.  Can someone point me to a list of hardware compatibility for ESX 4.0 minimum standards?

I would use standard office for this project.  I prefer the ASUS and Intel motherboards.  Thank you!

  • Unable to boot from USB thumbdrive running ESXi 5

I have a workstation xw6600 I used as my sandbox for ESXi from 4.0. So I decided it was time to become familiar with ESXi 5, so before starting to run our upgrade to ESXi 5 in all our servers I wanted to update my own sandbox. I tried first of all to make an update to 4.1 update 1 who does not like I special HP drivers installed, so I decided to make a brand new install ESXi 5 using VMware bootable CD. The installation seems to be successful, but when the supposed to reboot from the USB system I get the typical mistake of the BIOS indicates that no BONES were found "no disk system or disk error." ». For a year I've been running ESXi in this system without problems. I am currently starting from 4.1 update 1 from a USB, if I look that the problem was the installation process in my sandbox (after hours of troubleshooting and several creations of CD), so I did an installation in one of our server (DL360G7). Everything went find I could only start in ESXi 5 no problem (using the same CD I create above). I took this USB to my sandbox and tried to boot from it and still the same error. I can not even boot my laptop from the USB. Does anyone know what changes to the startup procedure in ESXi 5 compare to ESX 4.0?

From my understanding, if you create a new 5.0 installation, then it will only start using UEFI.

However, if you upgrade an ESXi in 5.0, it retains the original MBR boot.

    See you soon.

  • Additional 2 x 1 TB HARD drive upstream Del PowerEdge running ESXi 4

    Hi all

I would like to add additional 2 x 1 TB drive in my current work ESXi 4 Server that runs on Dell Power Edge 2950 - III the current configuration is 4 x 500 GB SATA RAID 5, do I have to reinstall the server just to add these two records in the data store to save it?

    Kind regards

    AWT

If you have the PERC controller, simply add the disk in half.

If you have OpenManage (OMSA), you can create new RAID configuration without restarting your system.

Otherwise, just restart the system, enter the PERC BIOS, create a new virtual disk.

Then, in ESX / Setup / storage card be sure to see the new drive (if it is not a new analysis).

Then just add a new data store (in Configuration / Storage).

  • 2010 MacBook Pro with El Capitan will not run Apple hardware Tests

I have a MacBook Pro with El Capitan 2010 installed (10.11.1). He gave me refresh issues such as refresh very slow on the desktop and in the three different browsers, which eventually would crash when I tried to run the videos. I have reset the PRAM. Then ran first aid and received a message ' Mac HD corrupted and needs to be repaired. Tried to run first aid Mode safe, so I started it as such and first aid, then ran with an OK message. Then I tried to run Apple Hardware Test online with D at the start but he would go directly to the grey screen with Apple and would not be executed that the AHT even through I've tried several times. I have not seen anyone with this problem. Any ideas?

The Apple Hardware test is the second of your original version of records. If you have not taken care of for transfer to a hidden location on your drive, it will be available from these disks. Your Mac is probably too old to get it automatically from the Internet.

  • where to find and use the (HCL) hardware compatibility list for Windows xp3

Original title: where to find and use the Windows (HCL) hardware compatibility list

    HCL for Windows xp3

That does not "response" from MS Support Engineer Umesh was particularly useless.

Unfortunately for you, the HCL XP (or Windows Catalog or Windows Marketplace or whatever it is renamed) no longer exists.  I guess Microsoft is not particularly interested in letting you know what the material is compatible with an operating system that is no longer, it sells and supports only.

The trail begins here: "the latest Windows XP Hardware Compatibility List" (314062 KB) that leads to theWindows 7 Compatibility Center.  KB 314062 is also linked to the http://www.windowsmarketplace.com/ which used to have a list of compatible with XP hardware and software, but now redirects to the Microsoft store, another dead end that XP is concerned.

If you really want to dig, your best bet is probably used the Wayback Machine (archive.org) looking for old copies of

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hcl/default.mspx - but a lot of links are broken or "not supported" unless you use Internet Explorer 6 (the message claims 6 'or more' but 8 does not work).

I don't see a lot of products these days logo on the box of the product, but they claim that they are compatible.

Go ahead and install the equipment.  If you're worried, see the web site of the manufacturer to ensure that you have the latest version of the driver there (it may be newer than the driver on the CD that came with the hardware).

You won't see a lot of products these days with the Windows XP logo on them because Windows XP is no longer sold by Microsoft and the hardware vendors are focusing on Windows 7.

The list of hardware compatibility XP (or what was her last name) seems to have disappeared from microsoft.com, but the following information of theversion of Windows 7 is basically the same as it was for XP:

The "Compatible" green check icon means the manufacturer of the device or software that this product works with 64-bit or 32-bit Windows 7. Generally, you won't need to do anything to ensure compatibility, and you will see "no action is needed" below "Compatible" on the product details page. However, if a manufacturer or Publisher offers or requires additional software or a newer version, you will find a link to what you need and see the details to the right of the link. Please note that these products have not been "Compatible with Windows 7" Logo program compatibility testing In addition, consult the manufacturer or the site of the Publisher for more information.

"Compatible - Windows 7 Logo" means that this product meets requirements for compatibility with 64-bit and 32-bit Windows 7 from Microsoft. To get the "Compatible with Windows 7" logo, software and hardware must pass tests installation, performance, reliability, and security of Microsoft designed so you can be sure that these products are compatible with Windows 7.

Almost always, if the manufacturer says that its product is "compatible with" a version of Windows, it is safe to install.

    Hello

Your error message, the problem is probably caused by BIOS or DVD settings or bad cabling to SATA hard drive. Please do the following to narrow down because of the problem.

    (a) ensure that all laptops the same hardware, the same manufacturer and the same model.

    (b) upgrade the BIOS to the latest version; go into the BIOS and enable "Load Fail - Safe Defaults".

  • Windows Server 2012 GUI + ESXi 5

    Hello

Has anyone having problems installing gui Windows Server 2012 under ESXi 5 version?  Whenever I try to install the operating system, after it restarts the machine of the adaptation of the files from the disk, it sits on a loading screen without end (the blue windows icon with a circle of white dots).  I tried redownloading my ISO from Microsoft Licensing Panel twice, recreating the virtual machine from scratch, but I get the same result every time.

Someone has some ideas on things to try to get the operating system invited to install?

    Thank you!

Are you patch 4 for ESXi 5? See http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2006859 for some good info.
