ESXi 5.1.0.u2 lost vmware tools
It is a host vmware House. I run ESXi on a USB key.
I've created a guest today and went to install vmware-tools and this message is returned:
Call 'VirtualMachine.MountToolsInstaller' of object 'Fedora20' on ESXi 'esxi-mgmt' failed.
Cannot install VMware Tools. An error occurred trying to access the image file ' / usr/lib/vmware/isoimages/linux.iso ' to install VMware Tools: 0 (no such file or directory). If your product comes with the module of VMware tools, VMware ESX to reinstall, then try again to install the VMware Tools package in the virtual machine.
I ssh'd in the host and it is isoimages->/productLocker/vmtools listed in Red listed, but does not seem to exist.
A few days ago, I created a machine virtual windows and installed the vmware-tools very well.
don't know what happened. the House has had a power outage, but I thought I shut the servers down the fine.
I need to reinstall this version of ESXi? If I did, will current mt vm s run yet?
Yes. If you copy the ISO images in this directory. ESX server will be able to install tools

Hello
I can't find how to upgrade vmware ESXi 4.0 to latest tools, or is it automatically upgrade itself to the latest version? I mean not for the guest OS but for ESXi. So when I install VMware Tools on a new guest OS I get the latest VMware tools.
Thank you
/ Martin
Hello
You need to update your ESXi host, usually new updated comes with its own updated VMware tools. Use the Manager to update to patch/update your ESXi hosts. Once the host is update/upgrade VMware tools in the virtual machines will also have the opportunity to upgrade to the latest version.
Hope this information is helpful

A few questions about VMware tools and U2 of ESXi 4.0 and 4.1
In my workplace, there is a cluster of vSphere 4 six nodes containing 5 servers ESXi 4.0 U2 (4.0.0, 261974) and a server ESXi 4.1 (4.1.0, 260247). Aparently, it was built that way in the environment concept then deployed into production and now I head for VMware deployment. This environment is up in producgtion now for over 8 months with this configuration, but starting to be more widely used. Ideally, I know, we should have all the nodes on the same patch level, but here's the question.
Models used to get the operating system to the virtual machines in this environment were built on the apparently new 4.1 server using this version of VMware tools (Version 8.3.2 build-257859). All so most of the running virtual machines, use this version of VMware tools. Using this new version of VMware tools on a virtual machine running on a server ESXi 4.0 U2 ESXi would cause issues? ESXi 4.0 U2 servers push version 4.0.0 build 261974 of the VMware tools, identical to the ESXi version. The status of the VMware tools when the new 4.1 version is running on a host of U2 4.0 still shows as OK and we have operated this way for more than 8 months.
Another problem is that we have still a few other virtual machines with the 4.0 build U2 VMware tools so when these virtual machines will eventually be VMotioned to an ESXi 4.1 host, VMware tools show as outdated.
Until we can get of planned downtime to upgrade the servers, it should be like that for several weeks if possible. We have HL7 interfaces on many of these virtual machines that are not too good with VMotion and being in an organization of health care, sometimes difficult to get downtime. It is perhaps more possible to downgrade the only host to 4.0 U2 until we can plan time to upgrade all hosts. I would keep the node in the cluster, even if for the moment, assuming that to release 4.1 with other guests at 4.0 U2 should not cause problems, since we can use the resources of that node in this cluster.
Until then, ensuring that all the virtual machines in the cluster use the ESXi version 4.1 of the VMware tools (Version 8.3.2 build-257859) would be acceptable? I just wanted to check that this version should be fully backwards compatible with the previous version of ESXi 4.0 U2, and as I mentioned before, its run like that and have noticed yet all the problems and the status of the VMware Tools also records OK when this new version works on ESXi 4.0 U2 host computer. I just wanted some feedback from those of the community.
Thank you
Exactly, do you VMotion, virtual host 4.1 machine and if necessary would upgrade the VMware tools. To install VMware tools, it is necessary to restart the virtual machine.
And another option that I say is the first upgraded version of all hosts ESXi4.0 U2 to 4.1, after that, you do an upgrade in the tools of all virtual machines vmware.
Perfect.
You´re are welcome!

VMware Tools for Mac on EsXi 5.5
I'm trying to install VMware Tools on a Mac on my 5.5 EsXi box. I get the following error:
VMWare Tools upgrade error
Call 'VirtualMachine.MountToolsInstaller' for the 'host name' object on EsXi host failed.
VIX 21003 = error code
Anyone where I can download Vmware Tools for mac on an EsXi 5.5 box? Perform a google search, I am led to this page to download VMware Tools:
However, this site lists only on Windows and Linux. I do not see any version of Vmware Tools Mac.
Nevermind, I was able to get rid of the error message by removing my cd player. Its strange that after mounting will cause this error. Also its strange that there isn't any downloadable version online. But no matter I got it solved.

How to install VMWARE tools in ESXi VirtualHost?
Friends,
New in the vmware community... Just-VCP5-VTC review first attempt scored 184 little weak feeling... is in any case I have server with 16 GB of memory and processors R710 Dual Core Quad and 4 TB of storage with raid 0 which gives me two 2 TB built in Lun with raid 5 OS mirrored disks. Have installed ESXi server and created 4 VMS 1 VC, 1 ms and 2 linux machine I will use as ESXi servers for clustering; HA; DRS etc.
I am struggling to install the vmware tools on virtual hosts esxi; can't seem to get the media using the mount command? I installed vmware tools on other virtual machines to linux without problem...
VMware Tools are not available or supported on ESXi virtual hosts.
BTW. I'm a bit confused about the "... and have 4 TB of storage with raid 0 which gives me two 2 TB built in Lun with raid 5 OS mirrored disks...» ». Assuming that you have 4 disks, not do you have configured them in 3 RAID5 disks with a backup?

Wrong message 'VMware Tools can be updated' for the virtual machine within ESXi 4.1
These VMware tools in my guest operating system keep on the list "VMware Tools can be updated" and the yellow exclamation point.
Host operating system is ESXi 4.1.0 build 348481
VMware Tools version is 8.4.8 build 491717
It is not on the files with the extension.001 as described in the following article
I checked and there is no file with this extension.
I think that VMware tools is unable to read or to compare the correct numbers. Or is there another reason?
Reply to my own post:
The answer, in fact the procedure, is inside this article:
https://communities.VMware.com/docs/doc-31365
For some reason VMware Tools is not installed correctly (for example files from previous versions are left inside the hard disk). So I have to do a manual cleaning before you reinstall the tools.

How update the local copy of ESXi of VMware tools?
Our two ESXi servers have version 8.0.1 of the VMware tools on the local drive (vmfs/volumes / < ID > packages/5.0.0/vmtools), but the current version is 9.0.
Right now, I manually downloaded copies of the tools directly to the host of the virtual computer, but how to update local copy of ESXi disk? I was going to just crush the 8.0.1 files, but I noticed there is a manifest file as well, which contains a large number of version numbers and I didn't break anything. Is there a way with support update installers the?
VM tools are retro-compatible, so it should work. I recommend however, as you will introduce a manual process you need to manage and I did not belive you will have any advantage by doing so. the complexity more you add, the greater the risk of things go wrong.
I however would patch the hosts to the latest version and using the tools provided with this version.
For more information on the hosts patching of the command line, see this link below;

What is the VMware Tools version / build number in ESXi 4.1U2?
Hello world
As far as I know, the version/version number of "VMware Tools" in ESXi 4.1U1 ("4.1 Update 1") is "Version 8.3.7, build-341836" (at least for Windows virtual machines). "
Can someone tell me if the version/version number of "VMware Tools" in 4.1U2 ("4.1 Update 2") ESXi is different? I read the "Release Notes" for vCenter Server 4.1 update ESXi 4.1 Update 2 - http://www.vmware.com/support/vsphere4/doc/vsp_esxi41_u2_rel_notes.html - and 2 - http://www.vmware.com/support/vsphere4/doc/vsp_vc41_u2_rel_notes.html - but I did find the information on this subject.
Thanks in advance!
See you soon,.
Ricardo

How to install VMware tools in a comments 5.0 ESXi hypervisor?
I run multiple instances of 5.0 as hypervisors guest under 5.0 ESXi ESXi. If possible, I would like to install the VMware tools on each hypervisor of comments. Is this supported? If so, how do you? When I click on comments, then Install/Upgrade VMware Tools in vCenter, an error message appears which says "no VMware Tools Package is available. The VMware Tools package is not available for this guest operating system. »
Welcome to the VMware forums communities. I don't think that there are a bunch of VMware Tools for ESXi.

Hi I'm new to ESXi. I downloaded the CD Version of ESXi 4.1 and installed chickadee on a server.
When I tried to apply the VMWare Tools in a Linux guest I get error of vShere customer:
' / usr/lib/vmware/isoimages/linux.iso' not found
Need the ISO Image is not installed *.
I searched the forums and found that VMWare-Tools are only in the DVD Version, but not in CD version
to ESXi 4.1.
In VMWare download area I found VMWare-Tools for Linux OSes', after the download, I get:
Iso VMware-tools-linux - 8.3.2 - 257589.iso contains:
VMWARETO. TGZ
MANIFESTO. TXT
How to apply this driver/patch my ESXi Server?
Thanks for the help!
With ESXi 4.1, you have an option for "Image CD VMware Tools for operating systems invited ISO Linux", for more information, please visit http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1024047
Hope this helps!

Hello, I have install ESXi 3.5 U3 on a Hp Proliant 380.
I have created a virtual machine to Windows 2003, and when I want to install VMWARE TOOLS from Vmware Infrastructure Client, it does not install on the virtual machine vmware tools. Nor has received all messages from a Client Infrastructure and neither of the virtual machine.
Why could this happen?
Thanks in advance
NO.
The installation of vmware tools lies in an iso file, which is located on your host ESX itself and is mounted on the virtual machine when you click "install vmware tools".
Weather or not your host has a cdrom drive is not serious, you can always add a virtual cdrom drive to your guests and use iso files, or the cdrom drive on the PC that you are using the VI client from.
If you vm doesn't have a virtual cdrom drive, it can't mount the vmware tools iso, and you cannot install the vmware tools.

VMware Tools after upgrade to ESXi Update 3
I recently tested the upgrade of one of our hosts of update 2 to 3 update. After you apply the update using Update Manager virtual machines running on the host State VMware Tools ToolsOK instead of the ToolsOutOfDate show expected. It seems that there is indeed a new version of the tools installed with the update 3, but virtual Centre is not correctly state.
All the world has noticed this problem?
This is a known issue. I would recommend to use for free a 3rd third party tool to check the version numbers:

Hello
I noticed that VMware tools shows as obsolete for vMA 4.0. I ran the command ' sudo vima-implementation to date update "to update the vMA.
The reason is that I need to install a script for our UPS on the vMA to stop customers automatic and host when AC power is lost and before that sinks in the battery, this script needs VMware tools running and I guess he wants to the most recent version.
Anyone know if VMware tools is supposed to be a part of the updates? and if not can just download the rpm and execute it?
Thank you
John
Vima-update is update patches on vMA and has nothing to do with VMware Tools. As long as VMware Tools is running, you will be able to make a stop of comments, it does not require the most recent version. The reason for which the tools of vMA is outdated is probably due to when it was released, the Tools version was the latest version and compatibility purposes, they kept to that. If you want tools to update, just right click on the VM and install VMware Tools.

Cisco Unified Communications Applications VMware Tools support
I have an implementation of vsphere esxi 6.0U2. Who is the host VMware Tools 10.0.6.
When the upgrade of all my UC apps (CUCM, CUC, IMP, UCCX *.. it's extraordinary... because it will not refresh), initially, they showed the VMware tools running and updated. But after a restart of the operating system of each. VMware Tools is no longer running...
Anyone can comment/comment.
doc-wiki such as:
Indicate that they support ESXi 6.0 and so the tools is surely supported...
All the comments of someone?
Anyone else linking 6.0 U2 vSphere, ESXi and pushed its tools to their UC applications?
