ESXi 5.5 DL380 G6

Hi having some problems installing Windows 2012 R2 on ESXi 5.5 on a HP DL380 G6

Installing windows stops looking for drivers at the beginning of installation - no one knows how to fix this?

Thank you

Problems with the installations of Windows and missing drivers are often associated with a corrupt installation ISO/DVD (e.g. due to an incomplete download). As a first step, please check the checksum for the installation image.

    I see that DL 380e G8 and G8 380P DL are supported.

I recommend you to contact HP support and check with them.

  • Install vSphere ESXi 5 HP DL380 G7

I read a few bits and bobs that there are quite a few layouts guard/considerations when installing ESXi on a HP Server. Does anyone have a special procedure, the procedure, or can anyone point me in the right direct?

    Thank you all

I already installed a couple of these hosts and haven't had any problems at all. Some suggest, however.

If you want to use local storage:

    • Due to a problem of logical volumes on the integrated SmartArray controller driver may not exceed 2 TB less 512 bytes
    • Make sure that the RAID controller has BBWC/FBWC attached. It makes a huge difference.

    In all of the BIOS:

    • time UTC + 0 (which is actually the same thing for other devices too)
    • Select "VT - x" and "Execute Disable Bit"
    • set the options of food for 'static High Performance '.

Newly created table not appearing is not in ESXi

    HP DL380 G5

    Smart Array P400

I created the table using HP via SSH command line utility with the command on 2 x 300 GB drives

    hpssacli slot = 1 ctrl create type = ld = 1I:1:7, 1I:1:8 size drives = raid 300 = 1

Grand - LEDs are lit and all is good - do a quick check of the State (note the new table is table C)

    Array has

    then 1I:1:5 (port 1I:box 1:bay 5, SAS, 72 GB, OK)

    then 1I:1:6 (port 1I:box 1:bay 6, SAS, 72 GB, OK)

    then 1I:1:8 (port 1I:box 1:bay 8, SAS, 300 GB, OK)

Problem, I have now, is that it does not appear in storage, even when I re-fresh it or try to add additional storage. Is there anything else I need to do for the newly created table? On a quick google, I see nothing. I wonder if it is because I created the mirror with the actual size of the readers, however if this was going to be a problem, I don't know that it would be bombed when I created it.

The problem is probably that the partitions exist at all. Unless you need these NTFS partitions, take a look at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1008886 ("information partitioning compensation in ESXi using the DD utility" section) to see if that solves the problem.

  • Disk not configured VM after Exchange hard drive Slots / berries

Hi - I have 5.5 ESXi configured HP DL380 G6 server and three independent logical drives.  I had exchanged a HDD in slot 1 with slot 3 to do a test, but then he returned to original slots.

In the ESXi VMware client, I see the detected hard drives but next to him said ' ' unconfigured disk and virtual machines, I say unknown inaccessible. "

I removed the VM of the inventory by pressing a note KM, but the problem is that I do not see my data stores, none of the hard disk appears in the Configuration > storage > devices section. If I can see them in the Configuration > health > storage area.

Any thoughts on what I can do for the disc to be recognized, all that was done was split/Bay 1 hard drive was moved to slot/Bay 3 and vice versa.

Would appreciate the help as I would not start over.

    Thank you!

have you already read the raid controller?

What says the raid controller when you start the server? raid hp controller can sometimes block records if they find missconfigurations on it...

  • vLAN: vm - vMotion - Shared Storage

Hello. I set up a test lab, set up as follows:

    ESX01 (ESXi v5) - HP-DL380-G5 (Dual GB NIC)

    ESX02 (ESXi v5) - HP-DL380-G5 (Dual GB NIC)

I have installed OpenFiler on a third G5 and have configured the shared storage iSCSI. This hangs together on a layer 3 switch extremes (10/100 but vMotion always works well).

I would like to create virtual networks to improve my knowledge in this area. I know how to create them at the level of the switch, tag etc but I'm not familiar with the concept of full use in VMware. I am also limited by the number of NIC on the host computers.

In my production environment (set up by third party), each host has 4 NETWORK cards. Two vSwitches are configured as follows:

    vSwitch0

    vmnic1

    vmnic0

    VMkernel Port

    vMotion

    vmk1 (ip x.x.x.x. VLAN ID 100)

    VMkernel Port

    Management

    vmk0 (ip x.x.x.x. VLAN ID 200)

    vSwitch1

    Virtual Machine port group

    Production

All virtual machines use its option

Any advice on configuring vSwitches + addition of virtual networks within my appreciated Limited NIC Test Laboratory.

    Phil.

You can duplicate your production environment with two virtual switches on each host and simply connect each vSwitch with a NIC physical you will have no redundancy, but this may be acceptable, since it is a laboratory.

If you want redundancy you will need to create a unique vSwitch, with two connected physical network cards. You create all your interfaces VMK and groups of comments on this switch ports and allow all the VLANS on the two trunks to the extreme switch.

In order to separate your traffic MGMT and VMotion of your comments traffic, you will need to go into the properties for each VMK or port group and select the option "overide switch failover order". I had put the active Vmotion on physical NIC1 and NIC2 watch. I put all other active traffic on Eve on NIC1 and NIC2.

  • iSCSI Multipathing - really useful?

    Suppose to have this configuration:

    2 ESXi host-> HP DL380 G7 (4 x 1 Gbit NIC + 2 x 10 Gbit NIC)

    1 storage-> MSA P2000 (2 x 1 Gbit NIC + 4 x 10 Gbit NIC)

The two hosts will be connected to the storage through 10 Gbit adapter. Since no 10 Gbit switch is available, guests will be DIRECTLY connected to the storage.

Multipathing is always necessary in this case? I mean, I can understand, multiple paths is very useful if you have several path to reach the storage (multiple switch with a network different for examples). But in this case, if for example a 10 Gbit card on one server will be lost, I would therefore lost two way.

    Am I wrong?

Is 4 x 10 GbE NIC on storing a single NETWORK card? Otherwise, you can cross the cables from hosts to it and have a warranty from the point of view of the moribund NIC storage.

Since I read your post tos ay that the cards 2 x 10 GbE NIC on the hosts are a single card, and if storage 4 x 10 GbE NIC is also a unique card, while the only reason for multipath would be to have access to the additional uplinks to a higher throughput of iSCSI.

I would consider using the 1GbE NIC as an uplink ensures 10GbE links to help prevent single points of failure.

  • ESXi 6.0 installs but does not start HP DL380 G7

    Hello

I have a HP DL380 G7 server, I have 4 disks, configure a RAID0 array and created a logical volume of the sum of the disk 4 (2.2 to)

ESXi 6.0 correctly installed and asks to restart, when restarts the server tries a different boot devices (network, etc.)

I have tried F11 during boot and select to boot from the local disk, but the problem persists.

    No idea how to fix?

    Thank you!

    Thanks for your help!

It was my mistake, check the Configuration of the Array utility there is an option in the main 'select the boot Volume"menu, selected my logical volume and here!

  • HP DL380 G6 ESXi 5.5 capable of detecting devices of storage but unable to create data warehouses

I will say upfront I am newbie and in need of assistance.

I have a HP DL380 G6 for which I installed iso customized for ESXi with the help of a CD-Rom, installed everything great, no errors, health status shows all green.

    I have 3 hard drives in bays, 500GB, 500GB and 1 TB.

Sensors see the three connected but in ESXi under storage I cannot see one, could not create a data store.

My goal is to have a hard disk for each operating system that you are separate, I don't really care about RAID that I think that maybe part of the problem.

I have attached the photos if someone can help me here.

    Hello

first of all, I would like to check if the latest Proliant SPP (service pack) is installed, or at less the systems BIOS, firmware for the P410i, network cards and the HP ILO (if you have a) is up-to-date. Latest version of the firmware of the P410i is 3.30 (B) insofar as I see, you have 3.00.

Then go into the P410i RAID configuration and check if everything is configured correctly, it. It looks like at least the 1 TB drive and probably one of the 500 GB drives are not configured in the settings of the controller. This is why there is no volume showing in VMWare.

If you change the configuration in P410i referring to disk/RAID volumes you may need to reinstall VMWare.

  • ESXi 5.5 U1 does not detect to install local drives on HP DL380 G7 during

    Hello

I am new to testing with vmware ESXi 5.5.

I did an instalation on the old server (DL380 G5), which was fine (I didn't add drivers to monitor health P400 control).

I'm now trying to intall ESXi 5.5. U1 on HP DL380 G7 with HP Smart Array P410i controller and attached is a HP StorageWorks NAS too.

I'm having a problem where my local drives are not detected during installation. NAS logical drives are detected.

    The processor is E5620.

I first tried with the image not specified for HP, then also that I found good site HP, two ESX 5.5 U1. Same behavior.

I have still a start-up Win 2 K 3 R2 on the server and the array controller works fine, there are 3 SAS RAID1 + spare drives. A logical drive.

I updated FW P410i version 6.00 - 2. I ran 8.7 B PSP update which can be updated. Still no effect. I even tested it on its host (without updateing) 2nd future cluster, but it does the same thing.

I pressume I do something wrong maybe, because it detects old Array P400 controllers on other places, so should it also the new.

Can't really change the controller of Bay physically, as I do remotely.

Tips are welcome. If more information is needed, I'll be happy to add it.

    Thank you

    Karl

I don't know why... but the local drive was there, it was only listed as a remote control.

  • 5.1 and HP ProLiant DL380 G5 - Xeon DualCore 5160 ESXi | 2 x 3.0 GHz

    Hello!

I have the opportunity to buy a HP ProLiant DL380 G5 with:

    • N. 1 DualCore Xeon 5160. 2 x 3.0 GHz
    • 2 x 72 GB SAS HD - 10 k Hotplug
    • Smart Array P400
    • 8 GB DDR2 RAM

Someone at - it successfully installed ESXi 5.1 or al least 5.0 on this server?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi guys!

I bought the server and installed custom HP ESXi 5.1 on my Proliant DL 380 G5 (Customize the Images VMware ESXi for HP ProLiant servers) and everything works like a charm!

Thank you all for your support.

  • Mysterious problem - HP DL380 G7 Server - ESXi installs but won't start

Someone has already seen this? I have a new DL380 G7 server, I have 8 drives and installation with 2 bays, RAID10 (4 discs). ESXi 4 DVD comes from an ISO, I downloaded from HP (and have used on other servers as DL380 G6 without problem). The installation goes by at the end asks me to restart, and then I remove the DVD and restart. The controller, SmartArray P410 is defined as the boot device (there is one in the system) and I even try the F11 at startup and tell it to boot from HD... the screen is blank for a second then the server tries the other boot devices (network, etc.).

I am really puzzled. During installation, the installer sees the two logical drives very well. I took LogicalDrive0 to install to.

    Thoughts? I'm puzzled.

I agree with the suggestion of J1mbo . It is a good way to make sure that you install the operating system/ESXi on the expected logical volume.

Another possible way to make sure that you install on the logical volume is created volumes with slightly different sizes. (I usually create one with only 10 GB for ESXi). In this way, you will be able to take the logic unit number in the Setup program based on its size.

  • Versions HP DL380 G6 ESXi 4?

    Hi all!

Our HP DL380 G6 has just arrived and we quickly put ESX4.1 on it, but someone said that HP may have had a special version for our G6.

Can anyone point us in the right direction?

We found a version of ESX 4.0 U1, but was curious as to what would be the best way?

    Thank you!

You can find the version of HP in the SW of HP depot at https://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=HPVM06

The title is always "ESXi 4.0 and updates", however when you scroll down you'll see version 4.1

  • VMS 64-bit on HP Proliant DL380 with ESXi 4.1 G4

    Hello world

Impossible to install 64-bit VMs on HP Proliant DL380 G4's with ESXi 4.1? I received an error message:

msg.cpuid.noLongmodeQuestionFmt: this virtual computer is setup for 64-bit client

operating systems. However, the 64-bit mode is not possible.

Longmode is disabled for this virtual machine.

For more information, see http://VMware.com/info?id=152 .

    Continue without 64 bit support?

Can someone explain to me and indicate a solution for this problem?

The link also does not work...

Where and how can I activate the Longmode?

    Thanks for your attention

You must enable VT in the BIOS of the system and probably not execute (or disable it, always, I forget which).

Doing so once the power to change the system, remove the cards power and then turn back on and you should be able to create x 64 vm

  • ESXi does not recognize the cd/dvd on HP DL380

I'm new to the hypervisor and really need some advice on a DL 380 I put up as a box QA. After installing ESXi 3.5, I created the virtual machine I need and proceeds to start a virtual machine, but was surprised to see that the server does not see the CD drive? I guess that would not as surprising, if it's a customized version white box, but a HP DL380, only one of the most common servers in the world?

Anyone has any advice or suggestions about what is a hotfix for this.

    Thank you

    Robert

In addition, once you can convert many of your applications and or OS installs in ISO format, you can just use your Infrastructure Manager client and connect an ISO to some VM you must have a 'CDROM' inserted in to.

For example, if you install Citrix and you have an ISO copy locally or on your network, you can simply start the virtual machine and then click 'connect/disconnect devices on CD' point to your ISO image. VMWare then moved the 'CD' for the virtual machine and it will be accessible as would a normal CDROM.

When you do that, your local CDROM in the ESX box really is not used for a lot more outside upgrades to ESX 3.5, and even what is done remotely today for ESX 4.

    Hope this helps
