ESXi 5.5 support
Hello
Is there any word on when there will be software and support for ESXi 5.5 for the MEM and VSM please?
After doing some digging it seems there is a provisional release for next week, but to be safe, I would say that in the next two weeks you will begin to see new released versions that support 5.5 ESXi. I would like to know if there is anything else I can do for you.

Is the host ESXi 5.1 supports Intel "Haswell" generation?
We are running a cluster of 3 servers ESXi 5.1 - 2 of them are Xeon E7440 2.4 GHz (64 GB of RAM) and 1 of them is Xeon X 5460 3.16 GHz (32 GB of RAM).
We want to add a new host running processors Intel E5-2600v3 to this cluster.
However, it seems that both 5.1 and 5.1 ESXi ESXi does not support generation processors 'Haswell. Is this right?

Mode locking ESXi and Tech Support Mode warning
I would like to be alerted if an ESXi host is not in the locked mode or allowed to TSM. We have more than 100 guests and sometimes, when these settings are enabled us not forget to return them. Someone did he write or know that an alert rules on this?
Thank you
Chris
It is not collected in the current version (vFoglight 6.6). It can be done with customization, creating a script agent who runs a PowerCLI script for example and fill the results in a dashboard.
I will pass this along feature request to product management to add the collection of Lockdown modes / Tech Support out of the box and also have an alert for it.
Thanks for the suggestion!

64-bit nested comments ESXi 5 not supported
I get an error on "Longmode is not supported" when trying to install windows 2012 server on a virtual machine to a nested instance of ESXi 5 reviews.
I tried all the proposed resolutions, that I could find on the forums. Someone knows how to fix this?
On physical and nested instances of ESXi, I confirmed vhv.allow TRUE config,
~ # cat/etc/vmware/config
LIBDIR = ' / usr/lib/vmware. "
Authd.proxy.vim = ' vmware - hostd:hostd - vmdb.
authd.proxy.NFC = ' vmware - pass: ha - nfc ".
Authd.proxy.nfcssl = ' vmware - pass: ha-nfcssl. "
Authd.proxy.vpxa - nfcssl = ' vmware - vpxa:vpxa - nfcssl.
Authd.proxy.vpxa - nfc = "vmware - vpxa:vpxa - nfc.
Authd. FullPath = ' / sbin/authd '.
authd.soapServer = 'TRUE '.
vmauthd.server.alwaysProxy = 'TRUE '.
VHV.allow = 'TRUE '.
but HV still shows no VT capable?
~ # esxcfg-info | grep "HV".
|----HV Support............................................ 0
| - HV Replay Capable... fake
\==+HV replay off the reasons:
| - World Command Line... grep HV
I started in the nested ESXi bios which is a PhoenixBios, but there is no option for setting VT
In the graphical interface of vCenter, I checked "on" box below,
CPU/MMU virtualization
Use Intel VT-x/AMD-v for virtualization and IVR EPT/AMD INtel MMU virtualization nec training
CPUID mask
Expose the NX/XD flag for comments
I also improved virtual hardware and the vm said vmx-09
Saved and reloaded everything
How can I get the 64-bit on the ESXi customer nested to work?
The physical server is a Dell PE310 with Intel Xeon processors and I turn on VT in the bios that seemed to work correctly because I installed ESXi on it, more nested ESXi.

VCenter Server Appliance fails without VT in nested ESXi 5.1 support
I am trying to run vCenter Server Appliance in a nested ESXi 5.1 64-bit environment.
At the start of the vCenter Server Appliance, it fails with:
This virtual machine is configured for 64-bit operating systems. However, the 64-bit mode is not possible.
This host does not support VT for more information, see http://VMware.com/info?id=152 .
My configuration is:
Hardware Intel Serverboard S1200BTS
Intel Xeon E3-1230 V2 3.30 GHZ CPU
(This processor supports VT + EPT)
BIOS Intel VT is enabled
Intel VT for directed IO is enabled
Latest version of the BIOS
HW-ESXI 5.1 vhv.allow = "TRUE" is defined
VM-ESXi 5.1 CPU/MMU virtualization - Intel VT + EPT active
vCenter Server Appliance has been installed with the VMware-vCenter-Server-Appliance-5.1.0.5200-880472_OVF10.ova file.
What I'm missing here?

Did you put this in the .vmx file for your ESXi 5.1 VM?

ESXi and vSphere support on older hardware?
I have freelance consulting work. I often need a VMware platform for the work I do. For the most part, I've been running on desktop on my laptop. That works well for some things, but for other things, I really need ESXi.
Being a small shop with a budget of small equipment, I'm looking for a low cost solution. I found an old HP DL380 G4 for a very reasonable price. It is not a big box, but it would do well for my needs.
My question: how long is this likely to be taken platform supported in ESXi/vSphere? No reason to expect to stop working anytime soon, or should I expect to work "forever"?
Thank you!
I have a few old DL360 G4 models in my test environment, and they certainly VT support. A glance on the Intel site shows that without VT - x support (http://ark.intel.com/products/27089/64-bit-Intel-Xeon-Processor-3_60E-GHz-2M-Cache-800-MHz-FSB) XEON Processors

ESX/ESXi 4.1 support for NFS v4
Hi team
Just out of curiosity, ESX/ESXi 4.1 already does support NFS v4? Or it only does support NFS v3?Nevertheless I've invited the VACP rests always on ESX 4.0, but correct me if I'm wrong.Thanks in advance.Jose Maria GonzalezAuthor of 101 secrets of VMware vSphereVCP4 VCP3, VCP2, RHCE, VCI, MCSE, vExpert 2009, 2010I don't know that NFS v3 over TCP is supported.

The host ESXi 4 profile support
Hi all
I use 4 ESXi and vSphere Client 4 (free versions). Does anyone know if they support the ability to create profiles of host? I've read about them in the manual, but I don't seem to have the ability to use with vSphere Client 4
Basically I'm looking for a way to back up the configuration of my host, so I don't have to manually configure all configuration information again in case I need to recharge.
Thank you.
Profiles of the host is available only through licensed Enterprise Plus - http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere/mid-size-and-enterprise-business/buy.html.
You want to use vCLI or PowerCLI to make a backup of your ESXi hosts periodic configuration. In case of problems with the system partition you either perform a new or repair the installation and then restore the backup of the configuration.

ESXi 4.0 supports Windows Server 2008 Clustering?
Hello
Does anyone know if the Clustering Windows 2008 Server (MSCS) is officially supported in ESXi 4.0? If this isn't the case, someone has suggestions on how to configure it to a production environment by using third-party tools?
Thank you

VMware ESXi does not support the RAID on HP Proliant ML110 G5 drives
Hello
I installed VMware ESXi on my HP Proliant ML110 G5. I got 3 hard drives on my server at the moment, one of them is VMware ESXi and other two are RAID1.Whenever I connect to my server via vSphere client I have the chance to see every HARD drive (datastore) separately. Is it possible that VMware does not RAID installation?I would need to see these two hard drives as a data store. Do you have any ideas on how I can do?Thank you.like any other typical server, you need to configure the sata raid controller RAID5/RAID0. but keep in mind that this controller without any battery backed cache would have very horrible performance. Another way is that you can use datastore span to provide as a large store of data, but if you lose all of the computer, you will lose all data.

ESXi 4.1 supports the transmission of serial port?
I'm having a bit to find this information...
My ESXi server has a serial port that I want to be available to a virtual machine (guest). Is this possible?
I don't want to share the serial port or do anything "fancy". I just want it to be accessible.
Thank you!
Starting with ESXi 4.1, you can go through a serial port. Simply add a port series to virtual hardware for the virtual machine and choose the option 'Use the physical serial port'.

ESXI 5.1 takes supported intel RAID?
Hello, when I try to install esxi 5.1 on my server (it's a motherboard supermicro very X9SCL/X9SCM), I have configured a RAID1 (2 discs) and a RAID5 (4 discs).
I see all 6 discs, but they are not in RAID mode.
Any ideas?
Thank you!
Jason
This is because ESXi does not support software RAID. The best bet would be to find a RAID card with a cache with battery backup that is listed in the HCLof VMware.
