The host ESXi 4 profile support

Hi all

I use 4 ESXi and vSphere Client 4 (free versions). Does anyone know if they support the ability to create profiles of host? I've read about them in the manual, but I don't seem to have the ability to use with vSphere Client 4

Basically I'm looking for a way to back up the configuration of my host, so I don't have to manually configure all configuration information again in case I need to recharge.

Thank you.

Profiles of the host is available only through licensed Enterprise Plus - http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere/mid-size-and-enterprise-business/buy.html.

You want to use vCLI or PowerCLI to make a backup of your ESXi hosts periodic configuration.  In case of problems with the system partition you either perform a new or repair the installation and then restore the backup of the configuration.

  • How to prevent the host ESXi 6 to use the graphics card?

There is no need to prevent the host from the use of the graphics card beyond to choose the graphics card to get through to a virtual machine. Do alerts if the host and the appropriate parameters are defined automatically. However, the Web Client vSphere does not reflect this behavior when running Firefox on Mac OSX 10.11.3 47.0.1. Recommend use if possible vSphere Client. It presents a panorama that is closer to the real situation within 6 ESXi. If the Web Client is not the height by the time vSphere client is relieved there will be real trouble.

At this point, I think, the pilot VSGA vSphere installed as part of "vmware tools" on a virtual machine is required for the successful graphics card through to a monitor. The process of solving problems associated with a virtual machine to crash the host on VM shutdown or restart has led to the false impression that an uninstall of the VSGA vSphere pilot was necessary for the proper functioning of the virtual machine. Do not uninstall the driver VSGA vSphere.

A virtual machine with passthrough crashing the ESXi host when to stop or restart a VM guest is not unusual. Click here to see an informative discussion about this and how to fix the problem. If the link does not head the Forum of the source, the House and perform a descriptive research. Essentially, the problem seems to be generated by the interaction of the VM with the PCIe bus on start/stop. In my case, after each accident, the ESXi host area before any PCIe 2 location where the graphic card is installed. See the transponder required for features in the BIOS of HP.

ESXi through a GPU was a PITA. It is possible to give enough time and effort. VMware documentation is miserable, so dependent on human is a given. Be sure to leave breadcrumbs for others.

  • Interruption of the connection to the host ESXi 5.1

I did some tests on one of our hosts in preparation for the essential moving to Essentials more when I noticed that most of the vmnic reported only 100 MB Full Duplex connection speeds.  We have a Dell R515 with 2 cards Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM 5709, all set to auto negotiate, so I thought I'd try and force one vmnic to communicate to 1000Mb Full Duplex.  This had quite disastrous consequences resulting in a lack of connectivity to the host.  VCentre host is reported as Disconncted and if I try to connect directly to the host I get a type error "unable to connect".

Fortunately the virtual machine is still ongoing so I just need to get that host online.  SSH is turned off so I can't chew on the host, if I don't have physical access to it if necessary.

The management network is running on vmnic8, which is embedded Broadcom BCM5716, while I just changed vmnic6 on one of the Broadcom BCM5709 map, then why I lose o management network connection, I'm a little confused, any help appreciated.

    See you soon

Just follow the steps described in the section "setting the speed and duplex of the NIC in ESX/ESXi host at the service console. In step 1, you will find links to find out how to enable Shell access. Basically you log in to the DCUI to allow Shell access in the "Troubleshooting Options" menu and press ALT - F1 to switch to the console. After the connection, use esxcli nic network list for an overview of installed vmnic network nic esxcli get vmnic8-n to display the settings vmnic8 and esxcli network nic address-n vmnic8-a to set the speed and duplex automatic. For more information about the command, see http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/index.jsp#com.vmware.vcli.ref.doc_50/esxcli_network.html

  • The host ESXi 5.1 hardware upgrade

We currently have VMware ESXi, 5.1.0 799733 with 3 blades BL480c G1 as hosts. I have 3 new BL660 Gen8 servers sitting in my office and getting ready to start our upgrade of the host this weekend.

Our intention is to put 1 host in maintenance mode and then remove the cluster and the chassis. I'll then plug in the new server, configure the network adapters and the HBA to be the same as the old, install the version of VMware ESXi HP giving the new server the same name and IP address as the old host. I can add it to the cluster, present and set up storage and enable HA to move the virtual machines on the host.

I know I have to maintain (Merom) base of the VCA level until I get all 3 replaced hosts.

I have not found any specific documentation about the replacement of the host machines so I'm curious to know if it sounds like a workable plan.

Create the new cluster and migrate the entire load.
If you can do with VM power off the power, then you don't need even to worry about EVC.

  • Unable to connect to the host ESXi VMware converter 5.1

    Hi all

I am trying to use the converter, but difficulties. I can use the first option to connect to a virtual machine power on but when I try to use the second option. To connect to a 5.1 ESXi host, I get the message of network failure. There are stories saying the ports and services must be open on the host computer, but what are they and how to open them? I use the converter 5 version and there is no involved vcenter.

    Thank you

    T

    Welcome to the community,

unfortunately impossible to use Converter 5.0 with a target of ESXi 5.1 (see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2033315). If all goes well a corrected version will be published soon.

  • How can access us the Client on a virtual machine on the host ESXi VI?

Good afternoon, we are evaluating a virtualization solution, our company is small and we want only 3 servers to virtualize, and we want to use one of the virtual machines on the ESXi host, using the Client of VI, so we can use the keyboard and the screen of this server to access virtual machines. Our idea is to use this virtual machine as a workstation.

Is this possible? or we use VMware server?

    Kind regards

    Cristian Fernández

It is really not possible. Since the physical ESXi console, you will see only the menus and COS screens.

  • VShere customer 4 cannot connect to the host ESXi 3.5

I want to improve my host ESXi 3.5 and 4.0.  I found the following doc http://www.vm-help.com/esx40i/ESXi40_upgrade_without_virtualcenter.php and folled the instructions

I followed the instructions to download the VMware vSphere client and then install the vSphere Host Update Utility.  This priocess went well but I couldn't get the utilities then talk to my host esxi 3.5.

I uninstalled the 4 esityksen dn returned to 3.5 and was able to reconnect with my host.

I do wriong in this process?

Just for fun you can try to restart the management agents. Also use the IP address instead of the name. Make sure that there is no firewall or antivirus is blocking access.

  • cannot not power off the virtual machine, but don't think the host it is running!

I have two clusters VI3. An older cluster to 3.02 hosts and a new cluster with ESXi hosts. Level of current patch on ESXi hosts. New guests and old presenters sees the same storage, but I have additional storage which can see only the new virtual machine.

Most of the migration to the new cluster went very well. A few questions. But a VM just GIVES me fits.

After the failure of attempts to migrate the virtual machine to the new storage, I thought I just migrate the virtual machine to the new host and leave it on the old storage, for now, until we could find something later. VCenter events logs show that the migration has expired. However, the virtual machine appears in the new cluster and is no longer in the old cluster. Also, he turned on itself for some reason any. Turn off in Vcenter gives the error "the operation failed because another task is underway." Having the VM that I could put it off in before Vcenter, and no no unsure of how to use the RCLI for this, I have connected to the host directly mode "not supported" and has run vm-support - x to get the list of running virtual machines and their ID's so that I could kill him. However, the host does not include this virtual machine in the list of virtual machines. So I think a virtual computer that runs Virtual Center, but he thinks the host it runs on is unclear if I can't kill the process.

    Help?

Have you tried to restart ESXi management officers, as well as the vc service is restarted?

  • host ESXi 4.1 to 5.5 upgrade

    Hi all, hope this helps.

I installed a new 5.5 vcenter and always running a vcenter 4.1, running both at the same time, I have migrated a crowd of 4.1 through to my platform of 5.5 and want to update the host to 5.5 (I have a license), my question is, will this affect my other storage on the san, other hosts on 4.1 run here , and I do not wish to upgrade this one 5.5 if it will affect the other storage on the old vcenter (things always work) he seem quite simple to do, but not sure about that something and can not afford to make the mistake with the old esx environment...

You can upgrade the host ESXi 4.1 managed by vCenter 5.5 without problems. For more safety, unplug the host HBA when you perform the upgrade if you use CF. If I understand correctly, both the upgrade to 5.5 ESXi and ESXi 4.1 hosts existing use same data warehouses. The only drawback I see is after the upgrade to 5.5 ESXi host, do not improve data warehouses of VMFS3 to VMFS5 so as not to affect the environment 4.1 existing.

  • When you run a single virtual machine on the host computer, is it ok to assign all the processors for comments

I have a single guest Windows 7 Pro running on the host ESXi 5 U1.   It will always be in a 1-1 configuration (we needed server hardware, but with BONES desktop for purposes of licensing).  The host CPU is an E5603 (Quad - core 1.6 GHz).  I want the guest to have the maximum amount of possible processor cores, because a true multi-threaded application runs.  Because Windows 7 is limited to 4 cores, I disabled hyperthreading on the processor so that when I assigned 4 cores the VM, I get all 4, not the half because of hyperthreading.

I am setting for claim processor between the host and the guest?  Should I only assign 3 carrots to the guest while it is still available for the host?

With the requirement, it's guessing more than knowing what to configure. I think that with 2 Dual-Core configuration, I suggested above, you're on the save side.

  • It is possible to create an interface between the host and the VM

It is possible to create a virtual switch between esxi host and a virtual machine.  I know that technically I can get to the esxi host for the virtual machine in the virtual machine network and back into the host esxi during the port of the kernel.  But we wonder if it is possible to have a private network setup so that the VM guest can talk directly to the shell host secure without leaving the network?

Yes you can - create a virtual with a vmkernel port and a port of the VM of the group as long as they are on the same segment that traffic will not leave the ESX host

  • ESXI host "not in compliance" with the profile of the host

I have a host ESXI "not in compliance" with the profile of the host cluster. Attached screenshot shows TSM, TSM - SSH message. I've seen it before and fixed by stopping local and SSH support. This time however, the message does not disappear, even when local and remote technical support. I stopped the services and value manual. Any suggestions?

Have you tried to check compliance again? As I got errors like that, they went all first I checked compliance again manually...

  • Disable / enable sharing (salting) memory in the host profile

    vSphere / esxi 5.1

Does anyone know where is memory privileged share between virtual machines in the profile of the host?

I disabled the salting after it has been put a patch last year, but now my cluster complains of being non-compliant and I cannot find the setting in the profile of the host.

No matter which help out me?

Looking for a Mem.ShareForceSalting in the profile of the host. Allows to set the value of salt.

The current value can be discovered by esxcli system parameters list advanced o/Mem/ShareForceSalting. I guess you want to change to 1 (default is 2)

You can edit this profile host to change the right profile---> advanced configuration Option---> Clik---> Add Profile. Create a new profile with OptionProfile at the bottom of this sheet.

Expand OptionProfile---> Advanced Option---> select "configure a fixed option.

On the first box, enter Mem.ShareForceSalting and on the second box set to 1 (I changed the salt value (default) 2-1)

Then follow the standard-setting process and application of profile
