ESXi host refusing to stop/restart (the VI client or ssh), if not in maintenance mode

Hello

I'm working on a (free) version without updating ESXi 4 license

In the unsuppoprted ssh using and scripts of J.Holland I'm programming without supervision of emergency stop (with UPS APC and apcupsd linking VIMA)

I'm trying the script step by step: after stopping all running vms (with & lt; code & gt; vmsvc/power.shutdown vim - cmd) & lt; / code & gt; I needed to stop graciously host Esxi (a dell PE 2950)

so I did:

~ # /sbin/shutdown.sh
Stop running from sfcbd-watchdog
Stop Sfcbd
Stop wsmand running
Stop Openwsmand
Guard-openwsmand dog: watchdog terminal with PID 1557
Stop sfcbd running
This operation is not supported.
Please use start /etc/init.d/sfcbd-watchdog
Stop slpd
Stopping slpd
Stop to spend running
Watchdog - pass: Terminal watchdog with PID 1475
Stop running ntpd
Ntpd stop
config loaded implicitly
Saving the current state in /bootbank
Clock day.
Time: 09:22:18 Date: 2009-05-20 UTC

and then:

~ #/ sbin/poweroff
poweroff: No.

Why the host refuses to stop?

Thank you

Guido

What is the tail after the virtual machine is stopped and then by running poweroff?  No maintenance mode, but any running virtual machine?

  • Restarting the management agents on ESXi 4.1 / risk to restart the guest virtual machines?

Unfortunately, we must restart management on our HP ML350 G6 agents almost once a week (unable to connect with VSphere client more, customers are works well).

We know this Article -: restart on an ESX or ESXi Server management agents

    and this article useful: http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/ESXi_restart_agents.php

How can we avoid the ESXi 4.1 command /sbin/services.sh restart will restart our execution of virtual machines (guests) as well?

(Our first test shows: it restarts the guests, but it is sure, or just happy coincidence?)

According to the second article linked:

... This will restart the agents installed in /etc/init.d/ and with a default installation that includes: pass, ntpd, sfcbd, sfcbd-watchdog, slpd and wsmand. He is aalso restarting the agent VMware HA (AAM) if that has been activated on the host...

Each of the agents of this is responsible for our virtual computer operation invited?

Do we ensure "auto start/stop" to each virtual machine too (as written in "Attention" on the first linked article)?

I think it was on ESX 3.5 U3 corected. In any case, this happened only if you autostart enabled for VMS - the ability of ESX Server to boot VMs when it starts itself. If you do not need, leave it disabled.

Each of the agents of this is responsible for our virtual computer operation invited?

Not at all. Virtual machines running in a very low level of the VMkernel. Even if you lose the COS (which is your main problem here - you should check it...) the VMs will still work.

  • Time VM synchronizes with host to restart the computer, even if it is not the value. Why?

I have a virtual machine (Server 2008 R2) that runs on a host ESXi 5.0. The date and time is not on the host computer. Whenever I restart the virtual machine, the time / date on it synchronize with the host computer, even though I have not enabled (in vsphere or vmware tools, see screenshot).

I adjusted the time on the host, so the time is accurate when I restart the virtual machine now, but how do make sure that the virtual machine does not synchronize the time / date with the host when it is restarted?

Thanks, I can provide any other information you need.

  • ESXi host change IP back to the old Configuration in vCenter

Hi all! I'm having a problem with a host computer in my vCenter. I had 2 guests and both were in the same network. I moved to a remote site and change its IP from 10.10.2.253 to 10.10.3.250.

While I'm trying to connect it to the vCenter, he connects well then (in vCenter) he's trying to connect to his old address IP 10.10.2.253.

I have reset the vCenter, database, but it still does not work. When I move first the host at the remote site, I did not disconnect. I deleted it just (may be the source of this problem).

Can someone help me on this one? A big thank you.

    Hi Alex,

is it possible for you to create a record of host DNS (A) for this remote ESXi host name and then add to vCenter using its FULL domain name rather than IP address?

  • Firefox uses the page host internet explorer after restarting the PC, even if I change again, it passes every time

I use a laptop for my work. I have internet explore what is necessary for our things work related and internet intranet explore uses the intranet homepage of our work. I also use firefox and want to use a different home page (IE Bing, google, whatever...). So things work related I use IE, for web browsing of non-working, I use firefox. Recently whenever I reboot my PC and launch firefox, firefox uses my Explorer (working on the intranet) home page internet. I then easily reset on my preference (bing.com) and as long as the PC is on, if I close and Open firefox it keeps bing.com as my home page. I could do this 20 x and it will keep the bing.com homepage. However when I shut down and restart the PC, firefox goes back to the use of the IE homepage (on the intranet of the work). Is there a permanent way to fix this. Our IT Department has been no help. Started a week before what is happening they upgraded our computers to internet explore 11. I tried to reset Firefox but that does not solve the problem.

Hi hunted, something is change or replace your prefs.js file.

Maybe you can thwart it by creating a user.js file. This file is read at startup of Firefox and replace prefs.js. Basically, it only needs a single line, if you could open prefs.js in a text editor after you have corrected to the homepage preference, use Save as to create user.js and then remove all the lines and save/close.

    More information on user.js: http://kb.mozillazine.org/User.js_file

  • Impossible to access host 4.0 U2 of the VI client to the DC operation

    Hello

I have a single ESXi host 4.0U2. I have a virtual computer that acts as a domain controller. I can't see the host using the VI Client if the domain controller does not work, it says that the connection is refused, even though I can ping the host. I can't access the host viat its IP address in a browser too. This has happened since the upgrade of U2. Maybe the host should the domain controller, how can I remove that so I can access it with market no VM. This only occurs after a host reboot. I can stop the DC and not lose the connection, as long as the host is powered.

Try entering the host ESX information C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts and try

This should solve, if the problem exists because of the resolution of host name problem

  • VI refuses to run when the published network shared variable is not available

I have a VI of logging data on my PC that gathers data from several sources, including several shared variable published network hosted on an RT target.

The problem I have is that the data logger VI refuses to start if the target RT is disabled and the VI is abandoned if the network connection is interrupted.

Is there an easy way to detect when running, be published these variable network are available and use a placeholder value, if they are not rather than the current behavior of refusing to work?

I saw many people using data sockets, but I try to avoid the overhead of setting up and testing a loop of treatment relatively complex network on both ends when the network has published shared variables are so simple to use and works perfectly as this abnormal behavior.

You can replace them with programmatic access (shared variable aperture and friends) and the dummy data placeholders if the variable is not accessible.

  • Restart the computer when a program does not

    Hello

    I'm using Labview 2011 and 2014.

I put windows to start my program when the computer is turned on. The VI is set so that the program runs at the launch. Things have been works well for many ON / OFF sequences of the computer. But the last time when, coming back to the screen, I realized that the program did not work (as if she was waiting for the user based on the white arrow). I pressed the white arrow and the program worked fine. I started the computer and everything worked too. This program is supposed to run far enough away from work where I don't have access to the computer (not able to check if things are okay..)

My question is: how could I make the computer do a sequence of Stop and Start if my program stops or is not running?

    Thank you.

Given that it looks like your application simply stopped normally, I would add in an Exec System call to reset your computer.  Is the command that you want to restart the computer

    shutdown /r /t 0

  • Will be the virtual machine starts on another host (during the blackout) if he can't switch to Maintenance Mode?

    Hello

We use a cluster with 2 5.1 ESXi hosts.  When attempting to place an ESXi host in Maintenance mode, he failed and said "not enough resources to satisfy configured level of failover for HA.

We would like to know, just in case where one of these ESXi hosts failed, VMs will be start on another ESXi host (at least some) or all of them will be down (i.e. None of them start)?  If no virtual machine will be migrated, we will change our level of failover for HA.

    Thank you

This occurs when you enable admission control on your HA cluster. When the failure of the host occurs and you have Admission control is enabled, it will let all market on the other host machines because it violates the constraints of availability.

If you turn this off all VM is switched even if you do not have enough resources to accommodate all the s VM on a single host. On a long term, I would say that you have sufficient resources to allow this to happen. But for now, you can turn it off and try.

You're hurting. Do not use the right button of the mouse.

Although by default, the taskbar is displayed on the bottom of the screen,
It can be on any of the sides on what you prefer. To move any
side to side, simply click an unused portion and drag
where you want it. Don't forget to click inside it, not on the edge.
by clicking on the edge and dragging will resize not move.

If it does not move, it can be locked. In this case, right click on it
and uncheck "Lock the taskbar", then try again.

Moreover, with the screen monitors wide today, I prefer the taskbar
on the left or the right of the screen. I think that allows a better
use of real estate than have it at the bottom of screen.
