  • VM automatically migrated back to ESXi host

    Hello

I recently installed and configured a Cluster DRS on vSphere 5 on the customer site.

In the cluster, we added 5 ESXi host. Four HP DL580 G7 with Xeon X 7560 processor and a HP DL580 G5 X 7460 Xeon processor.

Apparently the X74xx and the X75xx processors are not compatible for vMotion and DRS is impossible between ESXi hosts.

I tried to vMotion VM of a loaded ESXi, DL580 G7 host, for DL580 G5 the only customer, but the wizard gave me
    a compatibility error saying that;

"CPU host is compatible with the requirements of the virtual machine to CPUID level 0 x 1 'ecx' register."

I tired to use EVC on cluster ma to make compatible CPU but no luck! could not execute predefined EVC profiles!

I just turned off the virtual machine, so I'd be cold - migrate to the ESXi host.

Could do when it was off, but when I turned it on it automatically ran on the previous ESXi Host which is held before the migration.

For me, it was strange! because firstly he moved successfully to the new host of ESXi, but came back on the other after power.

    I have two questions about the scenario above;

    1. why the VM turned their backs on the other host ESXi?

    2. How can I solve the problem of cpu compatibility?

    Thank you,

    NetRock

' VCA Can' active br because the cluster contains hosts that lack VCA-compatible equipment.

Please check the BIOS of the host settings and do 'VT - x' and the 'no. Execute Disable"are both set to"enabled ".

  • migrate VM to esxi 5.5 essential esxi 5.5 standard

My colleague has created some virtual machines on a standard server ESXI 5.5, and I need to migrate to a server ESXI essentials 5.5.

Is it possible to do?  If Yes, what is the process I should follow?

I would certainly seek options to make a vMotion as is the safer (less chance of data destruction / corruption / configuration change) method of all described below.

Shared storage would be the simplest way - start the virtual machine on the data store that is accessible to both - source and destination hosts. Remove the virtual machine from the inventory (do not drive delete!) on the source host and register / add to the inventory on the destination.

Another option - in the case where you have a local shared network accessible on both source and destination hosts, temporarily add to vCenter, where the source host is registered (using a standard license or eval) and make a vMotion (classic or enhanced, depending on the architecture and the type of storage used), your destination host.

Still another option - export the virtual of Fiction on the source machine and import on the destination. Test your virtual machine after you import it in destination and before that you have deleted from the source.

VMware Converter is a valid option, however I would like to leave as a last resort because it might actually change the content VM.

    I hope this helps.

  • VMware Server Version 2.0.2 - migrate VM to ESXi 5.5?

    Hey guys

I use an old Dell T410 with VMware Server Version 2.0.2 (Build 203138) server running on top of serving 2008R1.

I'm looking to install a new server and you want to run ESXi 5.5.

Is it possible to convert VM VMware Server Version 2.0.2 (Build 203138) to ESXi 5.5?

Otherwise I'm running Shadowprotect. If I can't convert, is it possible to do a HIR to ESXi 5.5 from an image of a VM from VMware Server Version 2.0.2 (Build 203138) Shadowprotect?

Finally, I was looking for to run ESXi 5.5 Essentials (not more) on the new physical host and then use the old host as a temporary backup with ESXi 5.5 too. I have to buy 2 x 5.5 ESXi licenses to run it on both machines?

If you want more specifications about the network made me know.

    Kind regards

    Aaron

    Hello

You must convert the virtual server computers to be able to run on ESXi 5.5.

Take a look at this, it is perhaps useful:

How to migrate computers virtual vmware server to vSphere, ESXi

On the essential, it allows to manage 3 servers (servers esxi) with up to 2 processors of each:

Editions of vSphere, vSphere is? Leading Virtual Infrastructure | United States

But, with just the basics, you will be things like HA.

  • Speed low migration between 2 esxi host

    Hello!

I have 2 Server esxi 5.5. They have two stores of data and 1 GB ethernet. When migrates a to another esxi esxi VM, network speed shows 150 MB/s and write speed of 30 MB on the disk. During the migration from one disk to another within the same host write speed about 60 MB. And when I test the speed with iperf between two VM on different hosts, shows 900 MB/s speed.

Please help me, why speed is so low when migrating from one host to others?

And then migrating NFS to a data store local speed 150 MB/s and when, from the local to NFS push up to 900 MB/s.

  • Migrating to ESX ESXi machine

    Hello

New to ESX, I was handed a task and I hope you can help me with.

I was prompted to install a new server on a segment closed my business network. Asked me if the server can be virtual, as it is expected that the server should be migrated to the ESX infrastructure large company sometime next year.

The server is an older Dell PowerEdge R300, 2 * Xeon 3 GHz, 2 GB Ram, 160 GB. Should support ESXi.

My plan initial isto install ESXi on the server and install the single virtual server from W2K3 on the box. Then, next year, migrate this virtual W2K3 Server unique to my companys ESX 4.0 environment.

Unfortunantly, I'm not able to install directly on the ESX infrastructure of society, and the server must be installed with due next week.

Currently, the network closed, I'm to install the virtual server only consists of 2 clients and a server.

In your opinion, is it worth the time install ESXi on my Dell, with the sole purpose to be able to more easily migrate the unique virtual W2K3 for ESX Server later? Is it still possible? Or is that what I should just install the server with W2K3, forget to ESXi and want to migrate the server ESX using VCenter Converter?

    Any contribution is appreciated.

    Thank you!

Hi and welcome to the community

The server is an older Dell PowerEdge R300, 2 * Xeon 3 GHz, 2 GB Ram, 160 GB. Should support ESXi.

    check on the page HCL,
    http://www.VMware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php

2 GB of RAM is not RAM a lot, how much you want to assign to the VM?

My plan initial isto install ESXi on the server and install the single virtual server from W2K3 on the box. Then, next year, migrate this virtual W2K3 Server unique to my companys ESX 4.0 environment.

    good plan :-)

Yes, it is possible to spend your stand-alone host to your ESX VM infra.  First of all check if what will be installed on that VM is taken in charge on the virtual machine, not the vendor supports their applications on virtual machine

  • Migration/upgrade to ESXi 4.1

We are running ESX 4.1 on 3 hosts.  We organize an IBM N SAN with NFS series on 3 data stores.  I need to upgrade and have a few questions before I get started.  The intention going ESXi but was curious if the licenseing is the same.  Also, i will need to install a new installation or can it be improved?  Are there other requirements for other than 64-bit vCenter spcific?  Any help is appreciated.  Thank you.

    Perry

Yes, the licensing is the same for the classic ESX and ESXi.  However, there is no option to upgrade the classic for ESXi, you need to rebuild. Since you already have ESX 4.1, you use vCenter 4.1.  There is nothing you need to do to prepare for a transition of ESX to ESXi vCenter level.

  • ESX 3.0.3 - any which way to upgrade (migration) in ESXi 5?

    Hi guys,.

I am faced with the task to get 6 autonomous, unpatched, ESX 3.0.3 welcomes to ESXi 5.0 (target will be a VCenter Server Cluster) without spending money on new hardware no need to mention that guests who are run on these servers must remain as they are (most WIndows 2003 SP2 servers, downtime would be without problem.

Second challenge is that I can't create new data warehouses, as the area of SAN is already at the limit

Y at - it a Migration or upgrade path taken in charge for this task. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

    Thank you guys

    See you soon

    Sigmund

A few considerations, I think that you are considering.

I prefer rather a new installation of esxi5.0

    Why not consider?

If you don't have all the data critical because an upgrade, you must migrate and knock some known issues.

    3.5--> 4.1--> 5.0

in any case if you still prefer to upgrade

    1. put all hosts to 3.5---> right

    2. install vCenter 5.0---> right

3 bring the 6 autonomous under the vCenter---> right

    4. go on with being level and migration of servers ESXi 5---> you may need to upgrade to 4.x before going to 5.x

  • ESXi 4 VMs migration from one host to another without HA

We are facing a problem of automatic migration with VM ESXi migration between hosts in the cluster. Even though we have disabled HA and no reason apparent for migration. We have two virtual machines residing on a host, and the host does not work normally. However, I have noticed that when we have turned off or the other virtual machines and once again, he climbs to another host in the cluster.

The host tasks log shows now that the migration has been made by the SYSTEM when the power on. And once one of the virtual machines migrated even without power and with a similar journal entry showing that this has been done by the system. This can happen due to a shortage of resources on the host computer even if HA is disabled or are there other reasons that this can happen?

    Hello

I'm sure that's the reason for your behavior described.

  • Hyper-v 2008 R2 for Vmware ESXI 5.5 problem

    Hello world

We are migrating to Vmware ESXI with HP 3PAR storage we have some important servers as vms on Microsoft Hyperv 2008 R2, I downloaded and installed the VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client on the host Microsoft hyper-v connected to the localmachine as administrator and also to define the credentials of esxi distance everything works fine until it blocks 33% retried the process several times but without success , I collected the log, if I understand correctly this is something related to timeout or something maybe someone clears me on the issue, thanks a lot

also a question should I try to install the stand-alone converter on each virtual machine, hyper v or should I install on the computer host and make the conversion?

is it possible to make the conversion without turning off the virtual machines?

    Thanks in advance

You do not need to install the converter on each machine, only the converter agent, which is installed automatically when it is not found on the destination computer.

  • Pass a vCenter Server ESXi to another with dvSwitch

    Hello

I am actually preparing a migration of vCenter and have a few questions.

I'm migrating a cluster esxi 5.5 to one vCenter to another. The esxi server are configured with a distributed VM networking switch...

now, I would like to know if I can export the dvswitch configuration and import it on the new vcenter disconnect and reconnect esxi for the new vcenter Server?

in it's kb article is also to bring all virtual machines to a standard switch: KB VMware: ESX/ESXi host with vDS passing a vCenter Server to another

what I really need to move virtual machines first to a switch standard or is - this just for safety reasons? because I bring the configuration real the new vCenter dvswitch so it would stay the same dvswitch configuration?

Perhaps it is - can anyone help me...

    Hello

I just wanted to say that you MUST first migrate all the dvswitch to the standard switch exchanges!

If you add the esxi with the distributed switch, the dvswitch disappeared and the virtual machines have no connection to network more

  • 5.5 ESXi host is not able to connect to the network

I installed ESXi5.5 U2. But the ESXi host grab an IP address from the DHCP server. I tried givind static IP of my office network, but still unable to connect to the network. I checked the CLI, the vmnico of the adapter is in place. Why the machine does not have an IP address?

I started this machine from the network (available in the bios settings) and observed if an IP address is required. Then, I started the server from the hard drive. Surprisingly, it took an IP and I could connect via the network.

After that, I plugged this NETWORK adapter to a different location on the same server. I found the same problem (do not take IP). But when once again, I did the "Network Boot" thing, it took an IP address and now it works fine.

    What is average?

Apparently, my problem is solved, but I still don't know the reason.

  • esxi5.0 u1 & esxi5.0u2 mixed environment

    Hello

I have a question about the different versions of esxi servers managed by a vcenter server 5.0u1.

Let's add a new esxi Server 5.0 u2 for current production environment.

    This environment is below.

    < current vCenter >

a vCenter Server 5.0 u1 running and management of the servers esxi5.0u1.

    < current esxi >

Some servers running esxi5.0u1 and exceed kinesiologist on vCenter.

    < VMHA cluster group >

all servers in esxi5.0u1 are together in one group of VMHA cluster

We try to add a few "new version esxi5.0u2" servers for these environment.

vCenter (5.0u1) added to the current and added to the current group of clusters.

and we already checked these new servers and two serveres are executed normally.

Is supporting the mixed enviroment (worm different esxi5.0u1 and esxi5.0u2, running the same cluster group) by VMware?

    Kind regards

    Kawasaki

Yes it is supported... You can use the matrix of interoperability for reference... http://PartnerWeb.VMware.com/comp_guide2/SIM/interop_matrix.php

  • Question of migration FT

I have 2 servers ESXi and vCenter on separate server.

There are combination with VSA on ESXi storage and VM with FT

What ESXi Server main breaks down VM migrating to secondary ESXi.

Then the main server comes back online and the virtual machine remains on the secondary server

Is it possible to automatically migrate VM on the primary server?

That's what vSphere DRS would normally do for you. But I'm guessing that you do not have the license for it? You could add script, but that's all.
