VM automatically migrated back to ESXi host

Hello

I recently installed and configured a Cluster DRS on vSphere 5 on the customer site.

In the cluster, we added 5 ESXi host. Four HP DL580 G7 with Xeon X 7560 processor and a HP DL580 G5 X 7460 Xeon processor.

Apparently the X74xx and the X75xx processors are not compatible for vMotion and DRS is impossible between ESXi hosts.

I tried to vMotion VM of a loaded ESXi, DL580 G7 host, for DL580 G5 the only customer, but the wizard gave me
a compatibility error saying that;

"CPU host is compatible with the requirements of the virtual machine to CPUID level 0 x 1 'ecx' register."

I tired to use EVC on cluster ma to make compatible CPU but no luck! could not execute predefined EVC profiles!

I just turned off the virtual machine, so I'd be cold - migrate to the ESXi host.

Could do when it was off, but when I turned it on it automatically ran on the previous ESXi Host which is held before the migration.

For me, it was strange! because firstly he moved successfully to the new host of ESXi, but came back on the other after power.

I have two questions about the scenario above;

1. why the VM turned their backs on the other host ESXi?

2. How can I solve the problem of cpu compatibility?

Thank you,

NetRock

' VCA Can' active br because the cluster contains hosts that lack VCA-compatible equipment.

Please check the BIOS of the host settings and do 'VT - x' and the 'no. Execute Disable"are both set to"enabled ".

  • Speed low migration between 2 esxi host

    Hello!

I have 2 Server esxi 5.5. They have two stores of data and 1 GB ethernet. When migrates a to another esxi esxi VM, network speed shows 150 MB/s and write speed of 30 MB on the disk. During the migration from one disk to another within the same host write speed about 60 MB. And when I test the speed with iperf between two VM on different hosts, shows 900 MB/s speed.

Please help me, why speed is so low when migrating from one host to others?

And then migrating NFS to a data store local speed 150 MB/s and when, from the local to NFS push up to 900 MB/s.

  • vSphere 4 + ESXi 4: Image using a RDM cannot be migrated to a different host, card held locally RDM?...

I have two servers ESXi 4.0 and one of vSphere (4.0), their management. These two ESXi hosts can see a LUN on a NetApp FAS2020 and they see it as the same device (if I change the name on the same host, its automatically changed on another host). I have also a larger NFS volume that I use for my VMDK files, and it is on both ESXi hosts. All my guests use the NFS data store for their primary, and several disks use it to a secondary drive.

I have a specific host to use an iSCSI LUN of the NetApp for its secondary drive. I added it as a Raw Device Mapping (tried physical and virtual), but when I go through the installation program, must I store a map file of the LUNS on a data store. Unfortunately, the single data store, you have an option is the LOCAL DRIVE of the ESXi host. As soon as you start the system and try to migrate, it fails because the second vServer cannot reach the mapping file that is located on the first vServer.

What I'm doing wrong here... Why can't store the mapping file ROW with the rest of this VMDK and file EXCHANGE virtual servers?

I think it is because the file pointer needs a block device. You can check KB for details. And Yes, you need another logical unit number (type vmware) and create a VMFS on it to store the pointer files.

  • Is it possible to migrate ESXi host between data centers, if so please provide a brief not

    Hi friends,

    1. is it possible to migrate ESXi host between data centers, if so please provide a brief walking distance.

2 can we perform vMotion and Storage vMotion while ESXi is turned on.

    3. is it possible to extend the VMDK disk while it integrates snapshots in it.

    Best regards,

    Sirot Vijay

Yes the vmotion and svmotion works but one by one.

1 - vmotion is posssible to power on State, but you can't svmotion the vm simultaneously. The storage will remain same

2 svmotion is also possible to power on the State, but you cannot vmotion virtual machine simultaneously. the host will remain the same.

3 vmotion and svmotion is possible together when the vm is off power. the host and storage can be changed simultaneously on this State.

  • Migrate the replication for patching ESXi host device

    Hi guys,.

I'm trying to Storage vMotion/migrate vSphere replication device to different host for ESXi patches. I get the following message

"This entity is managed by VR management solution. It is not recommended to edit it directly. Instead use the GPMC for the solution if you want to make changes. You want to proceed. "

I use vSpere replication without the SRM device. What is the best approach to upgrade ESXi host where there is replication Appliacce. Should I just stop then move the unit, or is it possible to move it while it is running?

    Kind regards

    MQ

    Hello

Moving the unit via the technology Vmware is perfectly fine.

The message/warning you receive is just to warn you that this VM is a critic and you must be careful. The same message if you invoke the power out of this machine.

  • Impossible to withdraw, migrate, etc., VM on the ESXi host

Earlier, the room of my loss of cooling infrastructure hosting servers suffered vSphere causing several ESXi hosts to closure without notice due to excessive heat.  Needless to say that the results were chaotic.  While I recovered/restored most of the systems, a problem seems to persist.  It is a virtual machine that is impossible to remove, move, etc. due to locks on files active.  The option in the .vmx to "Add to the inventory" file in the data store is also disabled.  However, this virtual machine is not displayed with a "vim - cmd vmsvc/getallvms" command.  In fact, investigating the locks on files, it doesn't appear with a ' vmkvsitools lsof | grep VM_Name command"and no result back with a ' ps | grep VM_Name command.  The host in question has also been restarted and updated (5.1 update 2, Update 3) so a simple reboot does not clear the locks.  So, the question is; How can I get rid of this virtual machine so I can properly re - add to vCenter?  Any help would be appreciated.

Then just do a kill-9 20156 and you are all set - this kill everyone and goes out by the force of the virtual machine and your hair will be free

  • How can I migrate an ESXi host since a vDS in a vSwitch with NAS storage on vDS

I need to move some on a vDS esxi hosts to a standard vSwitch to move a new vCenter ESXi hosts

I have two 10 GB network adapters that manage the ports VM, NAS storage and vmotion.

Is there a documented procedure to move a vDS in a vSwitch, particularly for migration from NAS storage to a vSwitch?

    Thank you

    Tom

No, you will need to do this on a per-host basis.

I really recommend doing one by one, not in a hurry and checking all the networking before you proceed to the next step. Example: after migrating the vmkernel interfaces, check on a ssh connection to the host if it can vmkping the NAS. Before you move all the virtual machines on the host to the switch std, move one and check if the VM networking continues to function. This will prevent errors and downtime.

  • ESXi host change IP back to the old Configuration in vCenter

Hi all! I'm having a problem with a host computer in my vCenter. I had 2 guests and both were in the same network. I moved to a remote site and change its IP from 10.10.2.253 to 10.10.3.250.

While I'm trying to connect it to the vCenter, he connects well then (in vCenter) he's trying to connect to his old address IP 10.10.2.253.

I have reset the vCenter, database, but it still does not work. When I move first the host at the remote site, I did not disconnect. I deleted it just (may be the source of this problem).

Can someone help me on this one? A big thank you.

    Hi Alex,

is it possible for you to create a record of host DNS (A) for this remote ESXi host name and then add to vCenter using its FULL domain name rather than IP address?

  • Migrate Workstation VM to ESXi host

We are implementing our systems and want to initially put vsphere on a window 7 64 bit VM, which will be located on a workstation.  Down the road a bit I want to spend this VM of the workstation on an ESXi host.  What mechanism to use to do this. I am running workstation 7.  Thank you.

.. .and want to initially put vsphere on a window 7 64 bit VM...

    Can you explain this please!

Normally, you would use VMware Converter to convert a VMware Workstation VM on an ESXi host.

  • go esxi hosts and virtual machines in one vCenter to another

I built a new vCenter (Windows vCenter), I intend to move on ESXi hosts the old vCenter (Virtual appliance vCenter) to the new vCenter. I don't know if it's feasible, please notify my step is correct or not: 1) build a new vcenter 2) create a cluster with two esxi hosts first 3) Mount data (NetApp Filer Storage) to the new vCenter warehouses 4) add an empty host for the new vCenter VMs) 5 download then upload to the host in new vcenter

    Hi friend

    Its doable without any problem.

    Please follow the procedure below.

1 build a new vCenter (your first step is correct)

2 creating a cluster (because it is new vCenter there will not be any available host.) That is why cluster creation wizard will not get to add in the new cluster host). While initially empty cluster would be created.

    3. once the cluster is created, immediately do a right-click on the cluster and add your hosts one by one. Not necessary to cancel the registration and the VM. Virtual machines will automatically be added who were there on the data store available with all guests.

    Don't forget,

    1. we do not mount any store data in vCenter, we assemble the data store on the host.

    2. If you mount the new data store (which did not exist before), you can mount once the new hosts are added to the new cluster. (Your SAN admin help)

    3. If you want to move your virtual machines from data store before the newly added/mounted data store, please SVMotion these virtual machines (by right-clicking on the VM > migrate > data store > select the data store that is new)... Please follow the same procedure for all virtual machines.

    4. you don't need to add empty hosts to the new cluster, add just as soon as all guests without you register VMs. Later, you can migrate to other store of data according to the requirement. NO need to download or download the VM.

    5. Please make sure that your ESXi hosts will be compatible with the new vCenter. Old version of ESXi always compatible with the new version of vCenter. Just check if you have all valid licenses.

Please let me know if you need any clarification

  • Connect 2 ESXi hosts to array SAS MD3220

I have two R620s who go to the server as a host for the VM for several web servers (in a Windows NETWORK load balancing) and two other R620s which will be considered as physical database servers (in a Failover Cluster) and have to apply to a single Bay MD3220 SAS. The DB cluster will host the databases shared on a virtual disk and a data store shared on another virtual drive on the Bay. ESXi hosts will store their vmx/vmdk files elsewhere on the Board.

I'm still waiting for delivery of the second DB server, but in the meantime, I installed the first and he speaks with success to the table - I run MDSM on that server and the server is successfully connected to DB and filestore volumes. guess I'm having a little problem with the second server.

I installed ESXi on both VM hosts. I guess the next step is to save in MDSM, but MDSM is not automatically host port identifiers as assigned. Does?

My next guess would be to identify manually port host identifiers, but how can I determine what are their respective IDs? I couldn't see anything obvious in the BIOS.

I have currently two independent hosts to VM with ESXi installed v5.1 - I have not created a VM vCenter again because the host does not have access to the storage Bay (!), so I can pair together for HA hosts, etc. As a broader question, given what I want to achieve, how should I be going to this topic?

Indeed, you will need to register the VMware hosts in MDSM yourself. There is no agent to have a VMware host register automatically on the SAN (at the regular difference in Windows and linux).

You may be able to find the WWN of the HBA SAS in the SAS controller bios.

The only other way I know not to register the correct WWN with the server is intrusive, but not so hard:

-Stop your Windows (cluster SQL) servers

    -Stop the VMware servers

    -power of the MD3220 downwards

    -power up the MD3220

-power up to one of the servers Windows (one that has MDSM on it)

-power up the VMware Server 1

In MDSM, you can now save this first VMware Server.

Turn on the other 2 servers and register the 2nd VMware Server.

I found that only shutting down 1 VMware server is not erase the memory of the MD whose WWNS are connected and there is no way to find which ports you enter the WWN in question.

  • How to remove ESXi host of Distributed Switch

    3 Cluster DRS - 1 x physical, 2 nested nodes in a LAB environment

I need to downgrade a 6.0 U2 ESXi host and replace it (from ESXi nested in Physics). I am trying to remove the host from a distributed switch, but it seems that I can't do that until I remove it from the Distributed Switch. I can't remove the VMkernel group management ports that prevents me to remove the host from the Distributed Switch. Any suggestions? I guess that I need that migrate to a Standard switch first?

I am connected to the ESXi host through vSphere Client, migrated the group management to a Standard switch ports, then I was able to clear the host of the distributed switch. I could then remove the host from the Cluster.

  • Mobile 5.1 ESXi host in vCenter unpublished 6 - license?

    Hi all -

If I take an ESXi host 5.1, previously managed (under license) via a given vCenter (also v5.1) and its key in the inventory management, then I disconnect/remove this host from the vCenter 5.1 and connect it to a completely new vCenter, what happens to the host of license?

It disappear and become a 60-day eval, or his license key moves WITH the host in the new vCenter?  (The new vCenter in this scenario would have absolutely zero license keys from host ESXi that apply to guests of ESXi 5.1 existing installs below)

I was wondering what 'happens' in this scenario I have the document our so-called steps for migration.  Yes, I know that this could / should all be tested "in the lab" but don't get started me on that.  Thanks for any comments on what I can expect.

My best guess is that the host will LOSE its license now, it becomes a 'standalone' ESXi host when disconnected and removed from the old vCenter (via the "Delete" command).  I want to just make sure that it is also fully functional, if she has run VMs on it at the time or not (although Yes, I'll put it in maintenance mode before removing the old VirtualCenter and join a new).

And Yes, of course I have old games of the existing environment 5.1 ESXi license keys.  I'm just trying to set expectations as to what is happening in licenses-wise once I move the host from the old to the new vCenter.  I have all pretty well understood technical pieces, including AVS and DVS network considerations.  Thank you.

  • ESXi hosts are disconnected from the vCenter (5.5)

    Hi all

We have a little problem with our vCenter.

We have two hosts that are connected to the vCenter, unfortunately, they are listed as disconnected.

It seems that the problem are the SSL certificates on ESXi hosts that are no longer valid.

If I replace the old certificates with new ones, that I have to restart the ESXi host, am I right?

    If so, that's the problem.

We do not use any what automatic vMotion and as long as the hosts are not connected to the vCenter I can't manually, move right?

Is it possible to connect hosts to vCenter without SSL?

Sorry for my bad English, I'm not a native speaker.

    See you soon,.

    Johannes

You need to replace the ESXi host SSL certificates.

See the Docs for the replacement of ESXi Cert below.

    ttp://www.BlueBox-Web.com/2013/04/18/replace-ESXi-certificate/

    Documentation Centre of vSphere 5.5

I had regenerate the ESXi 5.5 SSL certificates, which I did without any stop to virtual machines.

Certificate replacement process can change based on the esxi version.

According to the Doc, vSphere 6.0 Documentation Centre ESXi6 host must be rebooted to replace certificates.

Anyway, in current state disconnected, you can try to regenerate the self signed SSL certs, restart management agents and try to reconnect host in vCenter.

    Thank you
