Ethernet home network

Considering a home network.  The Panel of the network options offer a path for wireless network, but nothing is displayed when two or more computers are connected through a router that is be wireless.  How does a computer to join a network with connections to the same ethernet router?  All machines are Vista Ultimate.  Advice requested

Hello

As long as your router supports WiFi and Ethernet, the network connections
can have either all or a mix of both. Most router manufacturers have excellent configuration
help on their sites and its not that hard to accomplish.

Can I use 2 routers on my home network? I have a modem/router combo Xfinity but my Airport extreme must be a router that is better than what came with the Xfinity plan. I was told you can use 2 routers for various computers (iPhone, iPad, iMac, etc) and choose the one that gives the best range and result.

Do you use a separator line and then to the cable connection? Or would I connect the Airport Extreme in the router/modem by an Ethernet cable Xfinity? In any case, what has worked for you, assistants out there?

    JIM

Do not use 2 routers, they will conflict (without careful configuration) and even when they are not there is nothing to be gained by.

  • Sudden home networking issues

Product name: Macbook Pro 13 inch Retina early 2015.

OS (when the problem started): Yosemite 10.10.5

    OS (now): El Capitan 10.11.5

    The problem

So yesterday my Mac Wifi connection dropped suddenly. So, I moved to lightning Ethernet connection which has varied between does not and VERY slow, almost unusable. I work from home online, so the last 2 days I was not able to do anything.

I can connect to Wifi, Mac said Internet: accessible. I can ping. But can not browse and other tools such as Google Drive and Dropbox are unable to connect.

So far, this would indicate a problem with my network or my router, rather than my right to the machine? However, my Android phone works fine with Wifi.

    Things I've tried:

I've been on Yosemite 10.10.5. I followed all the troubleshooting steps basis and the following:

    • Reset my SMC.
    • Reset my PRAM.
    • I turned off the Bluetooth.
    • I deleted the files in Network preferences to reset a reboot.
    • I "forgot" my home network to reset it like that.
    • Running reports "wireless diagnosis" everything is "as planned."
    • Attach to the Wireless on my Android Nexus 5 X hotspot. Connects to the Wifi but not Internet after 10 seconds. Sometimes not at all.

Then, I took a backup and upgrade to El Capitan. The strange thing is, about an hour after the upgrade, my ethernet cable was working fine again! About 14:00 yesterday at 09:00 today when I turned on it to start working.

NOTE: I connect to the network fine, and Google Drive and Dropbox plugins start synchronization. Full report 'sync', then, after about 10 seconds, they say "unable to connect". Holding "option/alt" and clicking on the Wifi symbol in the toolbar says "Internet: accessible. Indeed, I can 'ping' very well. There is no loss of data packets. So could it be a software on my machine which has suddenly become crazy and prevents connections other than the pings? I have run Avast Anti-virus, but which has worked for months and is running as I type this. Similar posts often get answers their questions about firewalls and proxies that might cause the problem. I only have Avast.

    Affirmations:

If it was a problem with my router, my phone would not have a problem too?

If it's a problem with my Mac, why would Internet suddenly started working again after a while?

I write this in a coffee shop, using their Wifi and it works fine. I don't have whatever it is off on my machine. Yet once, which suggests a problem with my network rather than the phone.

Is this something that could be fixed to an Apple Store? As I suspected, it works very well to the coffee then probably it would work fine in the Apple store and they don't know what to do.

I thought only try you geniuses first!

    Thanks in advance.

It is very difficult to debug an Internet without Internet problem.

First of all uninstall AVAST from the system. then open system preferences > network > enter your network > what is place please do as automatic. What, the other DNS settings, preferred networks etc please post.

  • Need to understand my situation of home network

    Hello

I'm having a little problem, trying to figure out how to delegate my home network since I started working out of the House. I have only the internet (100 Mbps) with no cable so I spread all my shows across various applications on two smart TVs. I also have a 7 year old who plays xbox live, I have a few home automation (6 lights shades phillips, iHome 3 caps, bolt dormant Schlage, Canary camera and Ecobee Thermostat with 3 sensors) 3 iPads, 2 iPhones, AppleTV 2, 1 macbook pro, 1 desktop and 1 iMac. For now, I have the newest Airport Extreme connected to my modem with shades phillips, Samsung Smart TV switch and and an Airport Express (Bridge Mode) point. I have the CANARIE camera and an Apple TV connected to the express. In the House, I have another Airport Express station I have my Sony Smart TV hooked up to the Wan which is hidden (I'm the only person who uses it for my iPhone). I also have one of the Apple TV hooked up to it. In the children's room, he has the Xbox one hooked and video streaming or playing games. I always know when he's on the Xbox because of the latency in the living room TV (The Samsung) or the desktop.

My House is small enough, 950 square feet, brick ranch-style house. The bottom is being renovated to become half of my office. I see if I can do something to speed up my internet. Currently, I only shoot in, 50 MB/s, when I should be around 70 or more.

I was looking for the Netgear router Nighthawk or a Linksys router and using the Airport Extreme as a switch. I have my office just now set up in the living room and I think move the modem to my office (10 feet away from its present location) so I can have my phone/fax VOIP hooked up to the modem and then have my desktop connected directly to the router using an ethernet cable.

I'm trying to understand it and it has been bothering me a lot, someone of you have an idea of what would be best implemented?

Thank you very much I appreciate your help and your time.

    Ethernet is always better.

If you are renovating the GET home ethernet installed in the walls and several points around the House... you will be amazed at the difference.

For wireless use never repeat... but you can use multiple wireless access Points. (installation of apple routers for the wireless is just fine).

I was looking for the Netgear router Nighthawk or a Linksys router

These will have a wireless range superior cf Apple... but still, you don't want to extend wireless... If the signal is not good enough... and when you have a lot of walls of brick which is very likely to happen... then have another WAP and ethernet.

Read the basic how to have good wireless everywhere in a House...

    Entire home wireless.

Hi, how to scan a document HP MFP127fn for my Ipad Air2?

The two are connected to my home network - the HP printer is connected by ethernet cable, and the Air2 Ipad connected by WiFi.

I can print from the Ipad to the printer but cannot scan.

The printer is properly connected (IE, it scans to another laptop (windows 7) without problems)

    Hi @regtown,

Looks like you won't be able to scan to PC or Mac with this printer. HP ePrint app is certainly compatible via iOS for printing, but it won't help you analyze for iPad.

  • Persistent problems with wireless home network

Hi, the problem started two weeks or more ago, when after the connection to the internet easily using our wireless network connection, my computer began to say that our domestic network was unidentified, then studied by troubleshooting my self but do not really understand the information the computer indicated to me. As it was a problem of the internet I contacted our local provider broadband, they looked like the line and the service was absolutely perfect and to confirm this router computer of my father in the same cable network has internet connection easily as it was my mom who was using the connection via the same router wireless cell phone.
Following the instructions of technitians I have tried to manually enter internet addresses to see if that would help the internet connection, it did. So I thought that the problem has been resolved. I had the use of the internet that day and everything was fine until I restarted the next morning. The problem reappeared. So I called my internet provider again, this time I'm sorry to say to a girl rather too quickly diagnosed that I had a virus to uninstall Google chrome and reinstall a different browser... That didn't make sense to me, but I tried some sort.  So I moved my office tower and all the bits in one place in the House were we could conect it to the router with an ethernet cable followed his instructions then moved the computer to its original position but still no internet connection and still this problem 'identification '. I turned off the machine and tried again the next day. Start by running the troubleshooting of network problems, this time I looked at the detailed report which curiously stated that the computer had difficulty oscillating between two somethings (sorry don't remember the detail correctly is days ago)
So I called my internet provider again and I am a helpful young man, read him the information and examined the reports that they had written about the problem in the days preceding. I followed his instructions looked in the network sharing Center, settings changed and added in manual codes for the internet, turn off the router for 10 seconds or more and then restarted, this time with not even a temporary success. We tried a few things but I always got the same contradictory message in the dialog box in the lower right corner, where it showed I was connected to the local network not connected to the internet, when I opened the network sharing Center from the local network to the router would show that 'Identification' and the conection to the internet would be marked with a cross. I managed to pass my network profile is for some reason any defined to the public rather that home and we were able to change it (even if it wasn't easy)
So I was told it was probably a driver issue, I was told I might need check the updates of my license on this operation the technitian and I also saw the site of netgear, that there was a potential conflict between Kaspersky and the netgear driver, so I need to uninstall my Kaspersky anti-virus stuff and the old pilot , down load and install the new drivers and then reinstall kaspersky. I followed it. (Movement of the tower and all the bits in place in the House were the ethernet cable was available).  I found an updated driver, uninstalled downloaded kaspersky and run only the driver installed Kaspersky again. Everything seemed to go well and I even plugged in the wireless adapter connected to the internet through that and disconnected the cable... things were going well.
So I turned off the machine and carried over into my room where I turned on once again. The problem reoccured. I thought it was time to communicate with kaspersky. So I turned the computer off and reduced to the ethernet cable. Connected a Kaspersky contacted by e-mail, they were quick and I was asked to run a program that logeed my information system. I did this and I told them I thought it might be a conflict between the driver and their softwear, they have looked into it, asking me to run a misuse of this program and the results by e-mail. Once again, I've followed the instructions and took notes, but no problem was found. They showed me how to configure my kaspersky firewall to allow access to the networks. It's when I was doing that I noticed that the computer had five ads of our home network, so I put all the profiles of their trust, apply changes and tested to see if it would work. On the wireless internet in the office where the ethernet cable and a router are by train, it's good, it works. I connected the wireless network and disonnect the ethernet then on the internet and there is no break in service. But if I shut down the computer and set up in my room at 12 meters, it won't work with signal strong (4 / 5 bars are green).

This morning I watched the windows firewall settings and changed some of them to see if that makes a difference. but none.

I'm trying hard to think about this problem but I'm getting nowhere fast, I know just enough. I just tried pluging in the wireless network adapter again, but there is no wireless network connection now and no internet connection:

After having tried downlaoding a new driver and this has not fixed the problem after having only tested the wireless signal is strong enough for good internet connection to my mother's computer in my room, I'm stuck. I looked on the netgear site and follow their advice, but it's really a night Mare!
I also noticed that somehow, we put in place five versions of our home network, I wonder if there is some confusion computer... I looked into the idea of the removal of the networks, and it seems that you can not do. I am trying to back up my files, uninstall everything and re - build my computer from scratch. If there is something else I should try before taking this message please drastic measures me ASAP.

    Hello

    1. What is the operating system installed on your computer?

Please follow the steps from the link below.

  • IBM ThinkPad T42 would not connect to my home network secure wireless

Configuration IP of Windows __An internal error has occurred: a device attached to the system is not functioning. __Please contact support services technical microsoft for more help.

Others have had a similar problem, but I tried the solutions that have worked for them, without success.

All of a sudden, my IBM ThinkPad T42 wouldn't connect to my home network (WPA2-PSK) secure wireless.  It would be either (1) stay in a constant state of "acquiring network address" or (2) do not recognize networks wireless in the range.  Sometimes, it would connect to a nearby unsecured network, but the network would still not appear in the list of available wireless networks.  So I tried to connect directly to the ethernet, which also did not work.  I then ran the ipconfig/all command at the command prompt and got the message:

    Windows IP configuration
An internal error has occurred: a device attached to the system is not functioning.
Contact support services technical microsoft for more help.
Additional information: unknown media status code.

So, I went to Microsoft Product Support Services, which does not seem to offer all the solutions.  I searched this error online and found several similar problems - some users had problems with viruses.  Some users had winsock2 corruption, and some recommended to reinstall the drivers for my network cards.  I'm computer literate, but not a computer Wizard, so I was able to follow their instructions for checking the winsock2 corruption (I think), and I think it's very good.  I did a complete scan of symantec, but who came with nothing.  I downloaded the drivers for my network cards which are: Wireless - 11 a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter, ethernet - connection of a Mobile Intel (r) PRO/1000 MT and was able to update my wireless driver, but not the driver ethernet.  The latter Assistant said we "could not find a better match for your hardware than the software currently installed".  I had wireless internet to work for a few hours last night, even if I still have the same error message when I run ipconfig/all.  I started my computer this morning, and the same problem again - constantly says "address of network acquisition" even if no wireless networks are appearing on the list.  Also, I tried the system restore to see if I could go back before the problem started, but after that I tried several dates, System Restore has still not successful - it wouldn't work again.

So now, I have my computer in safe mode, and it is connected to the wireless internet, even if the ipconfig/all command still gives the same message, and I am running symantec again to see if I can find something!

Please help me!  If you think that I may have missed something with the winsock2 or installing drivers, or if there is something I could not find on the internet, please let me know!  I'll try anything.

Note: I have Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3.
Network card drivers, I'm running are:
    Wireless: Date - 02/05/2007, Version 4.1.2.156, provider - Atheros
    Ethernet: Date - 24/10/2006, Version 8.7.9.0, provider - Intel

    Thank you!

Update: when I disable the Intel PRO/1000 MT driver, I can run ipconfig/all with success.  Then imagine it's something to do with this adapter or the driver.  Any ideas?

OK, so here is what I did to solve this problem.

I've updated to the latest version of the IBM BIOS

Then get the WLAN driver from the manufacturer, NOT IBM, NOT Windows Update. Depending on your card, it will be Cisco or Intel.

I can not stress enough that updates to IBM and Windows update does not work and I lost a lot of time. However, once downloaded directly from the manufacturer (new version) worked flawlessly!

Only if you have the model of card/photo-fax you can connect to your network with an ethernet cable instead:

Both computers must be able to connect to the wireless router (if they have a WiFi adapter) or wired

    Hello

To home network computers running different versions of Windows, we need to make sure that what follows.
    a. ensure that all computers are in the same workgroup.
    (b) the value of the private network location type.
    c. open ports in your firewall to allow file and printer sharing.
d. turn on additional file and printer sharing options.
    e. consider using password protected sharing.
    5 using the network card.

The NIC in the network and sharing Center is a graphical view of the computers and devices on your network, showing how they are connected and including problem areas. A computer running Windows XP can be detected and appear on the network map, you may need to install the Protocol Link-Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) on this computer.

To install LLTD, visit the following link and download: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922120

  • Windows 7 not remembering home network

I have 2 computers that are configured in a wired network:

    Laptop1 - Network switch - Laptop2

For security reasons, there is no access to the internet.  (For the few times that it is necessary, we use wireless.)

Because they are only 2 computers, I've set up static IP addresses to Ethernet adapters (IPs private / class C) and told me the network card it was a home network and then set up a homegroup.  (They are also in the same working group).  Since there are only two computers on the same subnet, I don't bother to set up a DNS gateway or default.  The only thing that caught my interest is that the NIC kept showing "unidentified network" - which could be the cause of the problem described below.  (Because this network does not have the particular signs, I expect that's why Windows confuses.)

After everything was set, I was able to share the files from one computer to another.  I have had absolutely no problem.  Unfortunately, every time restart us the computer, the two computers stopped talking.  When I went back to look at the network, it has been reset to the Public network instead of :ome network I selected previously.  What happens on BOTH computers.  Once I tell the computer in a home network, everything works perfectly - I don't even have to Setup homegroup.  Unfortuantely, as soon as we reboot a computer, this computer forget and returns to the Public network.

    Other information:

Both computers running with administrative accounts.  Because of custom software, we are unable to upgrade to 8.x Windows or Windows 10 right now.

I did some research and have seen many answers/different answers to this question.  #1 response seems to be to update the NIC drivers and I'm looking into that.  Is there something else I can look at?  Maybe add something to the network configuration to manually tell him it's the same network?

    Found the workaround:

    http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/71408-unidentified-networks-set-private-public.html

While I don't really 'it' because it is automatically the network a network of 'work', it allowed me to progress.  When I had to add a 3rd computer to homegroup, I had to change the first computer network temporarily work back home in order to get the 3rd computer to join the homegroup and then after the system has restarted, he returned to 'work', but the HomeGroup continues to operate correctly.

I don't know if this is addressed in Win10, but it would be nice if manually configure us a computer on a network, so we can manually set as call it and the private setting would stick without having to enter in the security policy.

  • Windows cannot connect to the home network

    Hello

My laptop can't connect to my home network. It can detect the network, but whenever I try to connect to it, it said "Windows could not connect to the (network).

My other devices (iPad, mobile phone) can connect to him, so I doubt that it is a problem of modem?

I have connected my laptop to the modem directly via an ethernet cable and it works. What is a network driver problem? Because I tried to update the driver, but they said that they are updated to the latest already.

    Someone help me please.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

    I understand that you are unable to connect to the network via modem, but thread and I'll be happy to answer your query. Let me ask you;

    1. How you did update the network driver?
    2. When was the last time you were able to connect to the wireless network?
    3. Remember to no particular change in the computer before the show?
    4. What is the brand and model of the computer?

Since you are able to connect to the network using the modem, it could be because of the card network is outdated or corrupted. I would recommend that you try the methods below and check.

Method 1: Run the network troubleshooter

Refer to the article below to run the network troubleshooter

Using the troubleshooter from network in Windows 7

Method 2: Update the NIC manufacturer support Web site

I suggest you to visit the website of the manufacturer of the computer support and install the latest network adapter on Windows 7 Web site and check.

Restart the computer and then try to connect to the network after you have installed the latest driver.
