CAN´t find other computers on the home network Windows.

I have a home network windows already defined with two desktop with Windows XP and a laptop with Windows 2000. The computers are connected to a router with ethernet cables and the lap top wireless (WiFi) to the same router. Now, I'm trying to connect a fourth computer (a desk top) with Windows Vista. It works fine to connect to Internet, but I can't reach the other computers on the network. On other computers, I can see a 'new', but I don't see the others of a "new". Can someone help me with the configuration of the computer "Vista"?  Thanks in advance.  / Thomas

Hello

To home network computers running different versions of Windows, we need to make sure that what follows.
a. ensure that all computers are in the same workgroup.
(b) the value of the private network location type.
c. open ports in your firewall to allow file and printer sharing.
d. turn on additional file and printer sharing options.
e. consider using password protected sharing.
5 using the network card.

The NIC in the network and sharing Center is a graphical view of the computers and devices on your network, showing how they are connected and including problem areas. A computer running Windows XP can be detected and appear on the network map, you may need to install the Protocol Link-Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) on this computer.

To install LLTD, visit the following link and download: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922120

For more information on the "networking running different versions of Windows' computers, visit the following link:

I hope this helps.

  • The computers on the home network can't see the other

    Hello

Portable Windows 7 Ultimate my two computers cannot see each other on the home network. Both have their firewall off the coast. We have McAfee installed (but disabled). I can't ping or computers. Both are on the same workgroup. Both are on the home network. Both have their network discovery is enabled. Both have active LLTD protocols.

A computer cannot find homegroup on the other computer. I tried both ways. All important services are successfully started and running. No problems with network connectivity to the internet. I can ping sites like google.com and yahoo.com. I can't just ping the other laptop on the network. Any ideas?

    Thank you

FYI: I have UltraVNC running on both computers. However, the program does not work b/c computers can't see each other. I also have LogMeIn installed on both. This works because logmein works via the internet.

  • Can I use the CD to add my printer to the other computers on my home network?

Just purchased and installed a HP LaserJetPro 400 M401dn to my home network. Now that it is installed and configured as the default printer for my laptop, will it use the CD to add this printer to my wife and daughter networks, too?

We are all running Windows 7 on every laptop.

    Thank you

    Hey rhodesmk,

I recommend to install the drivers of comprehensive features, either from the CD or a download, on all computers that you want to use the Laserjet Pro 400 with.  This will ensure that all the features with each PC you want to have connected with the printer.

    I hope this helps.

  • Vista can connect to other computers on the network, but not to the internet

I have a Vista computer that I just reinstalled and it is connected through a router Thomson to a Win7 machine and internet (or at least it should be).  For some reason any Vista machine refers to the network as a public network that I can change this private and turn on discovery.  If I do that, then the machine Vista can see the Win7 machine through the router, but cannot connect to the internet.

I tried to use the disk driver for the Thomson router on the Vista machine, but at the time wherever he tells me to connect cable internet installation program does not detect that the cable has been connected.

Troubleshooting with software Vista suggests simply reboot the router (that I tried without success).  Needless to say that the Win7 machine connects to the internet fine.

I was wondering whether to try to remove the connection and start again, but unable to do so because when the cable is plugged in tells me you cannot delete an active connection and when I disconnect the cable network connection disappears and so cannot be deleted.

    Grateful for pointers

    Ian

    Hi IanRC,

    Try the following steps.

    Step 1

You can try to disable the antivirus software on your computer and check if it works. Activate antivirus once you check the status.

Note An antivirus program is designed to help protect your computer against viruses. You must not download or open files from sources that you do not have trust, visit Web sites that do not trust, or open attachments when your antivirus program is disabled.

    Step 2

Try the Microsoft Fixit. Open the link below and click it on the Fixit button.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/928233

Check if it works and post back the result.

  • Can't find existing printer on the wireless network

I'm trying to establish a connection between a laptop recent Dell running Windows 7 and HP C7250 printer that is connected to the same network without wire connected to the computer.  I downloaded the correct driver from HP and during the installation process the installer wants to know how I want to set up the connection between the computer and the printer.  I select "wireless network" and the software goes out and tries to find the printer.  It relates, again, that there is no printer on the network.  I tried the advanced search option of installation of HP - looking for the printer using its IP address (which I have of it is implemented the process) but it is impossible to find out who way or the other.  The printer has already been successfully implemented to communicate with the network (it indicates that it is connected, provides the IP address, etc.).  I know that the computer works on the wireless network: she uses this path to connect to the internet.  I wonder why this printer is not found.  Troubleshooting HP message suggests that the computer security software can block recognition.  I am running MS Security Essentials.  Is it possible this?  The printer cannot provide the correct information on the network for any reason any?  BTW, this configuration was working at once but then stopped for some reason any.  I followed all instructions associated with this facility but havecome in the gaps.  Any suggestions on how I could disturb more pull this problem?

The likely cause is the security setting. A few things to try:

    1. Open your browser and the IP address of the printer.  If the printer is properly connected to the network, you should see the web server integrated for the printer.  If this succeeds, then go to step 2, otherwise study why the printer isn't appearing any more on the network.
    2. Download and run the HP Network Diagnostic Utility. It will solve various aspects of network connectivity.
    3. If the above does not resolve the problem, then follow the steps in this additional debugging page, which may include to manually adjust the settings of the firewall as shown here.   There are a number of ports that the AIO units use to communicate with the computer.
  • One of the computers on the local network Windows XP cannot access a http site.

I ping to the alpha-numeric address (on this computer) and ping uses a private IP address: 198.168.88.68 (all packages are lost).

All computers on the LAN access correctly.

When I ping at the same alphanumeric address on other computers

They ping 204.38.19.76 and I successfully received all return packages.

I connect using my Internet provider ADSL router. I know it does NAT and all my LAN computers get their IP addresses dynamically.

I thought it was a problem of Internet Explorer, but after I discovered the computer resolves the ip address for the external address as a private IP address. I force the PC to get another IP address and also I had used: ipconfig/release, ipconfig / renew. And even by configuring it with a static ip address does not work.

  • Slower than other computers on the wireless network

    Hello
I get a download speed that is slower than the other two laptops using my wireless network. I have 20 MB broadband and get ~ 3Mbps when I test the speed. Usual maximum download speed is 12-15 Mbps for other laptops. Download speed (~ 1 MB/s) and service effiency (92%) are the same I have connect directly or connect wirelessly.
I plugged directly on the wide-band receiver and speed was ~ 12 Mbit/s, then there is a problem with the wireless connection.
I ran diagnostics using Intel PROSet and there seems not to be problems. I can't understand why the download speed is stuck around 3 Mbps. Any ideas?
