Everything gone

I turned on my laptop (Pavilion) and logged in with my user name and password. I got a message saying that I was assigned to a temporary account because mine could not be recovered. How do I switch back to my account? Everythings gone.

have you tried "F8 > last known good configuration?

(Try to restart and press F8 several times with short short all in system reboot until you see the advanced boot menu then select 6th, "Last good known Configuration")

  • "Refresh" Argh! Where everything gone!

    OH NO.!

I'm new to the top of my XPS Gen 10 years 3, running Windows XP Pro.  My new Dell is a XPS of 8500 running Windows 8.

Navigation recently caused a flood of what 'I' considered boring "apps".  Please forgive my stupidity as age and MS have made things difficult for me to stay out of trouble with the new terminology.

This morning has been a disaster.  I'm used to things on my Windows desktop.  All these "apps" that has collected over the months with my new Dell were rarely visited on the other side of the "windows" key  Then small hours of the morning I plugged it into a USB jump drive to transfer files.

The new '' informed me that there was something wrong with this device.  He could not repair the fault and repeated in the other USB ports attempts have had the same results.  Now the serious problems blew:

    1. Then, I decided to continue to look at the "Terminator Salvation" disk that had already played in the Blu - ray player.  To my surprise: the 'disc' was no longer available for use, the PowerDVD software or on the Device Manager list.  "A registry error" was the reported cause.
    2. I suspected that the defective USB might be the bad guy, so I removed and restarted.
    3. Still no solution for the disk drive.
    4. I then went to the "System Restore".  After several points does not restore, I found one that worked.  The Blu-ray/DVD player has been recognized and worked.
    5. To improve the chances of restoring "good" points if the need arise, I increased the memory available for the 'system restore' of 2 to 15%.  Then created several others.
    6. Output I noticed the option: «If you are having problems with your PC, you can refresh it...» »

I was fooled by the innocent-sounding term "Refresh".  "It would be to get rid of all these last echoes,"apps"like browser toolbars and their ilk!  After all: I just created several new Restore Points to back me up.  What could go wrong? »

The length of time that takes the process of "refresh" caused a bit of concern.  But the final result... main software purchased for download, including Office 2010 Pro, Cyberlink PowerDVD 13, Iolo System Mechanic 11 Pro, Avast Pro, had devastated with what I had considered those annoying little "apps" that swarmed in each web page, I have visited.  The other stuff: games, etc., gone - were a minor annoyance in comparison.

'Refresh' bluff given as my Outlook email and Word documents.  To my horror added: missing were also all previous restore points.  I can have confused terminology like "apps" to "programs", but the fine print did not mention that.  Office 2010 downloaded files "seem to" be there, but the configuration file was disabled too.

Can do nothing to remove one "anything?  To compound my problem: all my online purchase records were carefully organized with Word 2010 - in the files "docx" who can not read my old copies of Word.

    Any suggestions are welcome.

Everything that happens during a refresh is specified on the screen when you perform the update... that "Apps [Applications = programs] that you have installed the drives or Web sites is removed", which should not have been much of a surprise.  (- As in th Metro 'tile' apps - Apps can be obtained from the Store, so when he talks about apps installed from other sources (disk or Internet sites), it can only talk of anything else on the computer.)

In regards to your personal files, they have remained all intact UNLESS, of course, you choose Reset instead of refresh.  Reset deletes all data and applications.

If you perform a reset, then the best course of action is to restore your backup files (hoping you execute this important function).  If this isn't the case, then you try to use an 'undelete' program to try to recover these files.  Send the drive to a recovery expert would be preferable (although expensive) to extract the files.

Most of the apps buy you Web sites will give you access to your account to get the software and keys.  Office, Avast, and System Mechanic is not problems at all.

  • updated to 37.0.2 - and appears all my favorites have been deleted (Nothing in the toolbar now)

    Hello:

I upgraded to 37.0.2 today. Fx reboot, I can't see any bookmarks. NO what so ever.
    My bookmarks bar was full.

So I open the bookmarks in the menu bar top (view all bookmarks] and none show there either.)
The bar watch bookmarks but not favourites. everything gone?

    Please see screenshot

    Thank you scribe_UK

    (1) I did as you suggested:
First of all open the bookmarks > show all bookmarks > import and backup > restore and see if you have a backup there.

    (2) all the backups of my favorites are there. My Favorites get saved at shutdown fx, which i usually do daily or every 2 days. Then I copied the latest file on my hard drive. Then I restored it. Just in case something goes wrong.

    (3) it is the good news. The bad news
    > restoring crashed 3 times before it completely restored. When I say crashed... started giving errors js... so I waited and let the script raather than to stop it. After about an hour and a bit it finally done.
    > all bookmarks lost all their icons. So I loaded the fav icon reloader Add on. And it was refreshing icons. A took about 2 hours to refresh.

so I'm now sorted from the point of view of bookmarks. But the upgrade to Fx always makes me nervous when things like this happen. Not pretty.

Secondly, since the upgrade, Fx went back slow slow speed that it worked before as I have created a new installation new Yosemite as 5 cool months and there's profile. If something tells me the upgrade of fx is only as a last resort. Like I slow FX now, unless I want to spend even more time, you re-create the Fx profile.

    Thanks for your help.

  • EVERYTHING IS GONE! 1. 1. 1. 11ONE

As I said in the topic everything has disappeared

I put a memory card that I put before (the use of an i in my phone) the only difference was I had a photo more than ussual(sp.) and the music I was listening to collapsed, I went and looked at the picture I tried to listen to something else took the memory card back and everything had gone music playlists photos anything that wasn't on a memory card.

Best to insert the card while the player is stopped or OFF.

    You can reformat your drive.

Disconnect the player from the PC.

    Slide lock to hold switch.

    Press and hold the<  (rew="" ) ="">

    Connect to USB.

Find the drive letter and do a right click > Format

Unplug the unit and let it boot.

Go to settings > Format > Yes

    This should clean it up.

    Then, load the latest firmware.

I come to me on my computer and everything was gone. All my files, shortcuts and backround have simply disappeared. It's like I've never been on my computer before. I have nothing! How to get everything back?

You have been discharged into a temporary user account. It may be a glitch, or your user account may be damaged. First try a system restore when things worked. If it suits it, fine. If it is not then your account is damaged and the best thing to do is to create a new user account and copy your data from the old to the new. I would also like to do a Chkdsk and then some hardware diagnostics on the hard drive and RAM to make sure that the material is solid.

CHKDSK - click here to open the computer. Right click on the hard drive you want to check, and then click Properties. Click on the Tools tab and then, under error-checking, click check now. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

To automatically repair problems with files and folders that the scan detects, select automatically fix file system errors. Otherwise, the disk check will simply report a problem, but not to fix them.

To perform a full disk check, select search and attempt to recover bad sectors. This scan is trying to find and repair physical errors on the hard drive itself, and it may take much longer to complete.

To check for errors file and the physical errors, select both automatically fix errors in file system and search for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

    Click Start.

Depending on the size of your hard disk, this may take several minutes. For best results, do not use your computer for any other tasks while it checks errors.

Note: If you select automatically errors in file system of fix for a disc that is used (for example, the partition that contains Windows), you will be prompted, see the disk check for the next time you restart your computer.

Corrupt user account - if your single administrative user account is damaged (and therefore have what one user account is A Bad Thing), you must log on to the built-in Administrator (disabled by default in Vista) account. From there, you can create a new user account for yourself. In these cases, I prefer not to copy the whole profile to a new way to do not copy the bits corrupt. I prefer a new user account to copy the data (documents, photos, emails, etc.). Here are the instructions to do this. I assumed that you had only an administrative account, then you might want to take a look at the "general recommendations for setting Up user accounts in Vista" at the end of this post.

All this requires a certain level of computer skills. You know better and that take the machine to a competent local computer tech (not a type of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad place) is the best solution for you.

    Activation of the built-in administrator.

Method 1. If you have an installation of Vista DVD (not a recovery DVDs), you can start the system with it. Select the default language, then select "repair your computer". Then select "Command Prompt". At the command prompt, type:

NET user administrator / Active: Yes [Enter]

If you do not have a Vista installation DVD, you can either make a bootable DVD of Vista repair in the file at this link:

    http://NeoSmart.net/blog/2008/Windows-Vista-recovery-disc-download/

Note: All the Neosmart recovery disk downloads are torrent files. There is a good explanation of the torrent on the site Web of Neosmart files. You will need a torrent as muTorrent client to get the files. Torrent client will download the .iso file with which to create the bootable DVD.

After net user, remove the bootable CD and restart the computer. You will now see an icon for administrator on the Welcome screen. Connect to this account.

Method 2. Or you can use NTpassword to enable the built-in administrator. In both methods, you need third-party burning software such as Nero, Roxio or the free ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com ) to burn the .iso image image file, not in the form of data.

    http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/

    B. create a new user account for yourself and by copying data from your damaged to her user account

    1. you are now connected to the built-in Administrator account. Go to control panel > user accounts and create a new Standard user for your daily work. Let's call it "Sheldon" for this example. Also create an administrator user, called 'CompAdmin' (or 'Tech' or similar).

4 Ouvrezunesession 'Sheldon' once for profile files are created. Now log off 'Sheldon' and 'CompAdmin '. In "CompAdmin", disable the built-in security administrator. Do this from a command prompt:

Start > Search > type: cmd
When cmd appears in the above results, right-click and choose "Run as Administrator". Provide the password/OK to the UAC prompt. Now, you will get the command prompt. Type:

NET user administrator / active: No. [Enter] and exit the command prompt.

    5. always in 'CompAdmin', you want to open two windows explore side by side. Open computer and navigate to C:\Users\old-corrupted-account. Now, do that again, but navigate to C:\Users\Sheldon. Copy the data from 'old-corrupted-account' on records in 'Sheldon '. Remember your Favorites, bookmarks (if you use Firefox) and by e-mail if you use an email like Windows Mail client.

    6. When you are finished, log in to "Sheldon. All your stuff should be there. When you are sure to have what you need, you can remove the old man-corrupted-account control panel > user accounts.

General C. recommendations for creating users in Vista:

You absolutely don't want to have only one user account. As XP and all the other modern operating systems, Vista is an OS multi-user with system built-in accounts such as administrator, by default, all users and guest. These accounts should be left alone because they are part of the structure of the operating system.

In particular, you do not want one account user with administrative privileges on Vista because the administrator account integrated (normally only used in emergencies) is disabled by default. If you use as an administrator for your daily work, and this account is corrupt, things will be difficult. It is not impossible to activate the built-in administrator to rescue things, but it will take third-party tools and work outside the operating system.

The user account that is for your daily work must be a Standard user, with the extra administrative user (call it something like 'CompAdmin' or 'Tech' or similar) only it for elevation purposes. After you have created "CompAdmin", connect to it and change your normal user account Standard. Then log on to your regular account.

If you want to go directly to the desktop and ignore the Welcome screen with the icons of the user accounts, you can do this:

Start Orb > Search box > type: netplwiz [Enter]
Click continue (or provide an administrator password) when you are prompted by UAC

Uncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to connect automatically by clicking on the account you want to highlight and press OK. Enter the password for this user account (when it exists) when you are prompted. Leave blank if there is no password (null). MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • I was typing an email that has been of about 200 words I hit the space bar and grabbed the next word and looked up the eyes and my email everything was gone.

I'm at my wits end, HELP ME! I was typing an email that has been of about 200 words I hit the space bar and grabbed the next word and looked up the eyes and my email everything was gone! This happened to me several times and I can't ever find anywhere. It just disappears. Can someone help me? I want to know why he spends, how I can solve this problem how can I recover my work and where it went! I blame my laptop or windows or the manufacturer?

I wrote a full description of my problem, but of course it also disappeared. I type 2-300 words and pooofff they disappear I can't explain it better or go on any more because I just it loose once AGAIN all! I tried to explain in more detail a related problem, but of course he gone too so I send this before I lose too.
    original title: email disappears

The text turns blue, because you mentioned it.  The most plausible explanation to highlight all of the text while typing is due to hit CTRL-A, which is the same as Edit | Select all.  Then when you type a character when this text is highlighted, then highlighted (blue) text is replaced by the character you typed.  Be very careful to not press the CTRL key instead of the SHIFT key when you type a capital letter A or else which will never happen.

If your cursor jumps around then also scan your system against viruses and malware.
