Evolution of computers on network

I installed WRT54G Router software on my Windows XP computer connected to the router (no wireless on this computer software) and have a Windows Vista wireless connected to this router.  I am looking to buy a Windows 7 computer and get rid of the XP computer.  Can I simply remove the software from the XP computer and start by installing the software from the CD that came with the router on the new Windows 7... both the Vista and 7 setting up in the wireless.  Or if this process gets more complicated than that.  I am pretty competent with computers, but not very well informed on routers.  I did the initial installation process without too much trouble.  Thanks for any help.

I think that takes care of my questions.  Thanks a lot for your help.  I printed this out and certainly appreciate everything you have done.

  • Problems of networking - cannot access other computers via network

Help, please!  About six months ago, I had Internet from Time Warner.  They provided a wireless router.  I set up the network with my desktop and laptop.  Both computers have XP and two of them access to the wireless network.  Everything worked well.  I was able to print with the laptop through the desktop computer.  I could also access files shared from one to the other.  One day it just stopped working.  I'm guessing after a windows update.  In any case I spent a LOT of time to sift through here looking for answers.  One thing I discovered is there is a lot of those who are experiencing the same thing, but nobody seems to have an answer to the problem.  I found an article that told me to increase the IRP stack size.  I tried and it worked for a few days and then it is right to give me this message, "you might not have permission to use this network resource.  Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission.  I'm about to lose my mind.  I don't understand how he could have worked for two months and then stops.  The only firewall I run on each one is Windows.  Help, please!

    Jack,

After typing this long email discuss my problem and I did some internet research and found this post that said they have solved the problem.  He said ' I solved the problem by adding the "Protocol of Transport compatible NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS" to my list of properties of network on every computer on my network.»  I tried it and it worked.  Only problem I've noticed so far is that it takes time to move a folder to.  To back up a folder, he thinks for a minute before moving.  Any thoughts?

  • New to connect computers to networks...

I don't know what to do to connect my computers in a network at home but don't know what to do. Can someone help me?

    Details:

Host: Windows XP SP2, DSL router, ethernet connection with desktop computer

Other computers: 2 laptops with wireless and ethernet, Windows XP Home Edition connectivity, prefer to use the wireless network

Connect each computer to the wireless router, using a wired or wireless connection.

Run the Network Setup Wizard (in Start > all programs > Accessories > Communications ) on each computer.  If the wizard detects the Internet connection shared the router bit, tell him to use it.  If this isn't the case, indicate the wizard the computer connects to the internet through a residential gateway.  Open file and printer sharing.

  • Win7 computer cannot connect to other computers Win7 network "\\computername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource ".

I have a Windows 7 (box A) system that cannot connect to files shared on another computer in Windows 7 (box B).

    • On the 'network card' and 'See the network computers and devices', I can see box B of area A.
    • I can ping Box B of area A.
    • I can connect on MEDIA sharing on box B of area A.
    • Area C (another system of Windows 7) I can connect to the B area and am presented with a box of authentication to connect to the shares (i.e., box B works as it should).

But the box has double clicking on box B or using \\computername or \\IP_Address the dialog box run, I get the error:

    ----

\\computername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The network is not present or not started.

    ----

I know that the system is available, because the area C can access... But something's not on the box... It cannot connect to zone B or C. Box

I have disabled the firewall on both systems without result.

I reinstalled the network adapter and Client for Microsoft Networks is installed on the box.

Yet somehow box's not connection to other computers on the network.

Any thoughts on what I should check would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance for the help.

OK... so I was able to track down and get it fixed...

I found another symptom (that would be a good way to check and see if you experience the same problem).

In the network and sharing Center, I clicked on "Change advanced sharing settings" in the left column. I found that the radio button under "File and printer sharing" was put on the OFF position.  I started and saved the changes, but when I returned in these settings, it is once again in the off position.

It turned out that the workstation service is set to disabled (which also caused the computer browser service for not being able to boot). I activated the workstation service, started, and set it to automatic.  Then did the same for the computer browser service.

Both of these services running, the "File and printer sharing" it will remain actually on IT, and I am able to connect to other devices on the network in the way I had to.

I can't mark this message as the solution (perhaps because I posted it?) so if someone he will quote as their response to the post office, I'll be able to mark as answer.

    Hello!

Have you disabled the firewall on the XP computer?
Maybe a 3rd party security software is blocking it.

Check the registry and go to:

In this case don't Scream no entry with the name of Hide.
If you have such an entry, delete it.

  • Portege A600-138 with Vista 32 bit does not see the computers in the Group Win XP network

    Hello

My Toshiba Portege A600-138 with Vista Business 32 does not see the computers in the workgroup.
In our office, the computers are all equipped with Windows XP.

When I connect my laptop to the Local network, I don't see any neighboring computers in Network Explorer.
I spent 1 hour and 40 minutes to talk to a specialist Service of Support from Microsoft, and the only way to have access to local machines, we found it had to enter the IP of the computer directly into the computer browser path field.

I hope you understand what I mean.

The man said that he had no this problem with non - OEM Windows Vista versions.
He meant that the problem was with the oem versions of Vista preinstalled on laptops only.
He said that probably the sellers - in my particular case Toshiba - supplied their notebooks with VIsta oem images that were somehow corrupt.

Does anyone have an idea of the cause of this problem?

    > The man said that he had no this problem with non - OEM Windows Vista versions.
    > It meant that the problem was with the oem versions of Vista preinstalled on laptops only.

    That's nonsense for me
The Vista OS preinstalled Toshiba which is same BONE as full Vista disc from Microsoft.
There is only one difference; Toshiba laptops are preinstalled with Toshiba and pilots tools and drivers and tools are part of the Toshiba recovery image that contains Vista, driver and tools

    Check this box:
    http://www.Computerworld.com/s/article/9019179/Teach_XP_and_Vista_to_play_nice_on_networks?taxono myId = 16 & pageNumber = 1

You will find information that a problem has to do with the new Windows Vista network map.
Windows Vista uses a new Protocol (Link Layer Topology Discovery).
LLTD is integrated with Windows Vista, this is why they appear correctly in the network map.
But the problem is that LLTD is not integrated with Windows XP, which is why they do not appear correctly.

But you can fix the problem by downloading and installing the layer topology discovery responder.
Install it and your PC Windows XP will appear on the network map.

  • Windows XP sees Win 7 computers on the network, but not Windows XP-based computers (7 can see 7, but 7 can't see XP and XP cannont see XP)

We just installed a new Netgear Prosafe 16 port switch.  We use a wired Linksys router.

With 10 computers on the network, XP can't see XP or 7.  And sees only 7 other 7 computers.

We are able to ping to all computers.  All computers have access to the Internet.

Network neighborhood shows computers only 7 to 7.  XP doesn't show anything.
