  • Delay in response to printer printing in a program BACK in Windows 7

My OS is Windows 7. When I print a report in the program BACK the printer takes quite awhile to respond. Under Windows 98 operating system, the printer responds immediately. Help, please. Thank you.

    Hi Sammyva,

If you are running a DOS application on Windows NT-based systems (Windows 2000, XP, 2003, Vista, 2008, Windows 7), you will find that your print jobs are spoulées after several seconds, sometimes minutes, especially when you print to a network printer.

A typical program of BACK sends binary data (characters) to one of these ports (usually LPT1 :). A matrix printer can print the data as soon as it is sent to the port and before all data has been sent by the program.

On Windows, things are different. Laser and other graphic printers must receive a whole page before making it on paper. In addition, several ongoing applications execution/printing on the same machine introduced the need for a print queue, including network printers.

Thus, if BACK program does not close at the end of the print job printer port, then Windows doesn't work is really finished. He expects a value of timeout expires before deciding finally to spool the next job.

If you are in this situation, you can close the DOS program as soon as he finished it. You'll see your print job start immediately, because all the handles back will be closed by the operating system itself, including the printer port.

You can change the Windows timer above, to make the shortest. Do not set the value too low or the printer could start printing before the program BACK ended really create jobs.

The timeout value is stored in a registry entry. TAKE CARE using RegEdit. It could be quite dangerous. If you do evil, your machine could even refuse to restart.

    In REGEDIT (START-> RUN-> REGEDIT)
    Click: HKey_Local_Machine
    then click on: System
    then click on: CurrentControlSet
    then click on: control
    then click on: WOW

You will find the LPT_timeout property. Double click on the value that you can choose how many seconds you prefer, then restart your machine to apply the change.

Unlike Windows, MS-DOS was a system of single-user operating. You can only run one program at a time, which could even keep the CPU set for itself, to work as quickly as possible.

This causes a common problem for recent DOS running on Windows machines programs: the CPU hogging.

In general, during polling of the keyboard (during a wait state), the BACK program performs an infinite loop to check as soon as possible. To BACK that caused no worries at all, but on Windows, the system could be so "busy" that no other tasks can be performed (including printing of spool, which usually begins when the DOS program has finished printing and is waiting for user input, usually in a menu).

To check whether your own BACK program is hogging the CPU, please try to leave Task Manager open while he is on the run.

Press CTRL + ALT + DELETE
    Click on the tab "performance".

If the CPU usage go often to 100% using your program BACK, then you are facing this problem.

  • Can I run an old program BACK under Vista?

Is it possible to run an old program BACK on a Vista operating system. either 32 or 64 bit?

I found a simple painless 3rd party open source solution. It is simply done by running a BACK EMU called Dosbox.

Use the latest version of www.dosbox.com.

Read the easy to understand by the Doc for the command line interface commands. Worked perfectly the first time to run an old (something 80) BACK ASCII B & W strategy game that I use to start BACK on a 4 platform mghz v3.2 clone IBM XT.
  • Virtual PC 2007, former program back (PSPICE), Hardware Lock

When I bought my new PC with Vista Business 64 bit (SP2, now), I didn't know that I could not run my old program back (PSPICE). Replacement cost of the software is $ 5000. I would like to find a way to run this software on this machine (I keep my old XP 32-bit, SP3 machine alive do turn this software). I tried DOSbox, but it doesn't seem to be able to read the material lock (connected to the serial port). So I was wondering if this Virtual PC 2007 might work. I wanted to just ask you the question before going through the installation process. Thank you

You could try Disk2VHD (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/ee656415.aspx)...  With it, you can clone your XP machine in a virtual machine, and then boot from your Vista machine to the clone.  I don't know if he's going to read the serial port.  You also need to activate the clone.

Alternatively, you can ask here (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprovirt/threads), which has all the VPC experts there.

All my programs are passed to the default opening program here as Word 2007 How do I change all the acknowledgement of programs to defuault there? I uninstalled the steps and it made no difference so I reinstalled and opened. Then he did the same as before. How can I get my programs back to default here?
This problem started as soon as I updated my Windows 7 - 32 bit - please help. :(

    Hello mattyboy1212,

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forum.

Try these steps and see if you can associate the default programs. If they are associated with Word, and then change them to the correct program.

    1. click Start and then click Control Panel.

    2. click on programs link.

Note: If you see small icons or large icons in the control panel display, you will not see this link. Click on the default programs icon, and then click the link associated with a file type or Protocol with a program . Go to step 4.

    3. click on the link to Open a file in a specific program type always under default programs .

    4. in the set Associations window, scroll down until you see the file extension that you want to change the default for program.

    5. click on the extension of the file to select it, once you have found what you are looking for.

    6. click the button of change... program above the scroll bar.

The Open with dialog box should appear.

    7. look into options for programs recommended and choose the application you want to open it with the file extension when you double-click on the particular type of the file on your computer.

Note: Chances are, requests described under the programs recommended will be contain more programs for this type of file, but don't forget to look at the applications under other programs. You may need to click the v to expand the list of these programs.

Note: Click Browse... to search, through your computer for any program not shown do not want to use.

    8. click OK in the Open with window. Windows 7 is going to update the list of file associations to display the new default program to open this type of file.

    9. click the button close the bottom together associations . You can also close the window of the Control Panel if it is still open.

    10. at this stage, when you double-click on any file with this particular file extension, the program you partner in step 7 will launch and load the particular file.

Important: Program used to automatically open when these types of files have been launched will again open these types of files. To use a different program, you just need to start the program manually and then browse your computer for the file in particular.

If please reply back and let us know if know if it helped to solve your problem or if you still need help.

  • I'm trying to run a program back to 7. I know it is not possible, but anyone who has used dosbox? And if I load xp on an external hard drive can I have essentially two separate computers?

How can I run a program back through windows 7? DOSbox? zinstall? Or loading of a xp via external hard drive? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

DOSbox or BACK (or XP or another 32-bit version of WIndows) on a virtual machine.

An external hard drive can be used only if it is connected by SATA (not USB). In this case, it seems to be an internal drive.

If you have Windows 7 Professional, you can use XP Mode. Otherwise, use VMWare Player http://www.vmware.com/products/player/, Virtualbox http://www.virtualbox.org/ or Windows Virtual PC http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx to host your virtual machine.

  • Program BACK in Guest XP on Windows 7 does not fill the screen

    Hello world

I have a quite unique due to many circumstances situation and several months of research to get to a decent workaround.

I have a tool written in Basic for MS-DOS. I need to use this tool and the interface with the files created in Windows 7. VMWare Player with no very good support for sharing files between DOS with Windows 7 clients, I have opted for a guest of Windows XP on my computer Windows 7 host and who go through the program. In this way, I can share files between XP and 7 and run the program correctly in the XP VM. Note that this program doesn't work at all on Windows 7 due to some problems graphics driver, hence the need for such a solution.

When I run the XP VM, it is able to match the resolution as expected. However, when I open the program BACK, he is not full screen as it does on a native XP machine or even a VM XP in VMWare Fusion on a Mac. Is there a way to force it to fill the screen? The graphics full screen are vital for visibility - I can barely see anything on the screen of dinky little 640 x 480 without blowing up to its maximum potential.

I tried several other options, including a Windows VM (I'm under Windows 7 Enterprise) and DOSBOX. Windows VM has the same problem resolution in addition to requiring the integration of features enabled to share files and requiring the same integration disabled features in order to run the program and the DOSBOX not full screen but the performance is much too slow to be practical (it is similar to take 2 minutes to scroll through a web page that is several pages a notch long) even at maximum settings.

Please no suggestions ' do you have the printer "-I am part of a team of average size on how it works and it's pretty much the last roadblock after several months of work. We probably tried everything which is immediately obvious, including the recompilation of the source code for the program BACK (that we had to do anyway to remove a lock imposed by a society that no longer exists).

The closest that I have is to reduce the resolution of the host Windows 7 in 800 x 600, which makes the VM a bit larger but still not quite full screen. I try to activate the VGA 640 x 480 mode, I guess? Even in this case, however, the need for constantly changing screen resolutions makes this solution less than ideal.

Thank you for all the suggestions/help.

    Do I understand correctly:

-It is an application with a fixed resolution of 640 x 480 fullscreen

-You want that he developed the scale to fit to your screen

As far as I KNOW, VMware Player is not just what to do.

There is a tutorial in the section documents for a workaround (using the changer display to automatically change the resolution of the host).

  • Data - execution prevention program closed everything permanently!

For about 3 months now DEP was the closure of all types of programs on my computer that I used for years. Adobe software, many games, my anti-virus, my software now PUPILLARY and registry cleaning software (used for college documents) & Microsoft Office. for about a month now, I not was able to download Windows updates... None of them. I tried since it began to correct the problem, tried all the suggestions on the pages of answers and help from microsoft without success. I finally got sick of the month last and disabled from command promt and it STILL stops! How is that possible? Windows Vista sucks maybe more? Is there something... Is there anything else I can do to prevent it all stop? I need these programs to do my homework. Thanks in advanse for the help :)

The problem might actually be an add-on or another program to the origin of the problem and you should check that
    1st.

What antivirus/antispyware/security products do you have on the machine? Be one you have NEVER on it
machines, including those that you have uninstalled (they leave leftovers behind which can cause strange problems).

Start - all programs - Accessores - system tools - IE with no Addons - does this work better?

IE - Tools - Internet Options - Advanced - tab click on restore, and then click Reset - apply / OK

IE - Tools - Internet Options - Security - reset all Zones by default level - apply / OK

    not better?

Close IE and try again IE or IE with no Addons

IE - tools - manage Addons (for sure disable SSV2 if it is there, it is no longer necessary but Java always install
"(and it causes problems - you never update Java to go back in and turn it off again)." Search for other possible problems.

Windows Defender - tools - software explore - look for problems with programs that do not look right. Permit
are usually OK and "unauthorized" are not always bad. If in doubt about a program to ask about it here.

Could be that a BHO - BHOremover - free - standalone program, needs no installation, download and run - not all
are bad, but some can cause your question. (Toolbars are BHO)

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever suspect malware, and it would be
unusual with Prevx market except for an occasional cookie of low level (not a big deal), update it, then
    run as a scanner.

    I would add prevx so.

Prevx - Home - small, fast, exceptional CLOUD free protection, working with other security programs. It comes

  • Back to Win7 XP

Compaq 500 MT b with sitcker 'Win 7 Pro OA' with the product key.  When I bought the system I had a choice of XP pro or Win7 and I was encouraged to have xp installed.  I made a mistake and I want to convert to Win 7.  How can I do this?  Win 7 is still on my computer?

    Hello:

It may be on the recovery partition.  To run recovery, back up all the files you want to keep, and then restart the PC. Welcome to HP press the F11 button on-screen and see what menus are available.

If this method does not work, or XP is on the recovery partition, then you can order a set of fast food for your PC disks by contacting this number if you live in the United States or the Canada: 1-800-334-5144.

Tell the representative that you need to order a pack of fast food for your PC.

You will need to provide the model number and serial number.

  • OfficeJet 6500 more: how to print from a program back on Officejet 6500 more?

On the old laserjet, I could open the printer as a file in a back program and send lines to print.  Is it possible to do it on the Officejet 6500 Plus?

    >> ... Is it possible to do it on the Officejet 6500 Plus? ...

    Not really.

This model printer (like most peripheral inket consumers) do not understand plain text ASCII.

The only way to send data to it is to imitate what does the printer driver, and convert text and images (the owner) encapsulated, compressed, raster image understood by the device format (which is unencapsulates and decompresses these images and prints the result 'points').

  • I have a dbase program back and I need to run it on windows 7.

my back of dbase program does not work with windows 7. There is no compatibility. I got it running on xp

    Probably a matter of 64-bit?

Yes, probably... DBase 5.x is a 16-bit program, so very little probable that iv would be higher. Cannot run 16-bit programs on windows 7 64-bit.  Because of this compatibility mode would probably not even a starter as your system runs too high bit rate.

If you have Windows 7 Professional or ultimate, you can be able to run in XP mode. XP mode is 32-bit XP sp3.

You might also be able to use your DBase iv using an emulator such as DOSBox BACK (it's free): http://www.windowsreference.com/free-utilities/dosbox-free-opensource-dos-x86-emulator-for-windows-linux/ from what I've seen, they have 64-bit versions and can even operate your program better then it would in XP mode.

  • How do reset you the program back to Windows 7 compatibility mode?

I tried to get a program runs on Windows 7, but it would freeze upwards.  Then I changed a setting in the program compatibility, try a Windows XP mode and a mode of Windows Vista (without success).  How to get out the compatibility settings and just go back to Windows 7?  Thank you.

    Hi dartglass01

To change the settings for compatibility manually for a program, right-click the program icon, click Properties, and then click the compatibility tab. You can uncheck the option to run this program in compatibility mode dedicated

  • Problem with dual booting BACK and Win7.

I tried to configure a machine as follows: 0 = 250 G SATA drive with 512 byte sectors BACK 6.22, only fine boots. Disc 1 = 500 G SATA with 4K with Win 7 sectors. When you install Windows 7 on disk 1, it ignores the C: drive on drive 0 and affects the C: drive letter in the windows partition. Because the c: drive on drive 0 is no longer a drive letter designation, no bootstrapper is installed. I cannot change the letter of the windows system drive, in disk management, and as such cannot get BACK start as the C: drive. This is new behavior, I did install it on NT 3.5 thru XP on the same reader or different readers without fail. Win 7 enter the C drive letter for the system drive? If so I'll have to go back to XP for double boot installs. I get this same behavior on a single disc with the two BONES. If anyone has an answer, I guess that the next option may be a third-party boot loader.

I need a startup BACK too, the only way for me to do is to install BACK first, and then XP and win7

After that it starts on win7, xp (earlier version of windows), select and then from there BACK.

It's 2 steps instead on the 1 step :) but it works
