Delay in response to printer printing in a program BACK in Windows 7

My OS is Windows 7. When I print a report in the program BACK the printer takes quite awhile to respond. Under Windows 98 operating system, the printer responds immediately. Help, please. Thank you.

Hi Sammyva,

If you are running a DOS application on Windows NT-based systems (Windows 2000, XP, 2003, Vista, 2008, Windows 7), you will find that your print jobs are spoulées after several seconds, sometimes minutes, especially when you print to a network printer.

A typical program of BACK sends binary data (characters) to one of these ports (usually LPT1 :). A matrix printer can print the data as soon as it is sent to the port and before all data has been sent by the program.

On Windows, things are different. Laser and other graphic printers must receive a whole page before making it on paper. In addition, several ongoing applications execution/printing on the same machine introduced the need for a print queue, including network printers.

Thus, if BACK program does not close at the end of the print job printer port, then Windows doesn't work is really finished. He expects a value of timeout expires before deciding finally to spool the next job.

If you are in this situation, you can close the DOS program as soon as he finished it. You'll see your print job start immediately, because all the handles back will be closed by the operating system itself, including the printer port.

You can change the Windows timer above, to make the shortest. Do not set the value too low or the printer could start printing before the program BACK ended really create jobs.

The timeout value is stored in a registry entry. TAKE CARE using RegEdit. It could be quite dangerous. If you do evil, your machine could even refuse to restart.

In REGEDIT (START-> RUN-> REGEDIT)
Click: HKey_Local_Machine
then click on: System
then click on: CurrentControlSet
then click on: control
then click on: WOW

You will find the LPT_timeout property. Double click on the value that you can choose how many seconds you prefer, then restart your machine to apply the change.

Unlike Windows, MS-DOS was a system of single-user operating. You can only run one program at a time, which could even keep the CPU set for itself, to work as quickly as possible.

This causes a common problem for recent DOS running on Windows machines programs: the CPU hogging.

In general, during polling of the keyboard (during a wait state), the BACK program performs an infinite loop to check as soon as possible. To BACK that caused no worries at all, but on Windows, the system could be so "busy" that no other tasks can be performed (including printing of spool, which usually begins when the DOS program has finished printing and is waiting for user input, usually in a menu).

To check whether your own BACK program is hogging the CPU, please try to leave Task Manager open while he is on the run.

Press CTRL + ALT + DELETE
Click on the tab "performance".

If the CPU usage go often to 100% using your program BACK, then you are facing this problem.

    Not really.

This model printer (like most peripheral inket consumers) do not understand plain text ASCII.

The only way to send data to it is to imitate what does the printer driver, and convert text and images (the owner) encapsulated, compressed, raster image understood by the device format (which is unencapsulates and decompresses these images and prints the result 'points').

  • How to disable the annoying message "Printer cartridges no HP installed" on Windows 7?

How to disable the annoying message "Printer cartridges no HP installed" on Windows 7? I have a HP Officejet 6500 has more and there is a way to disable those annoying pop ups. First of all, why HP can't fix their software to display only 1 message. If I turn on my printer, I get about 5 popups when the 3-minute delay. Is - this embarrassing? You bet, I do not turn off my printer more to avoid these messages. There must be a registry entry that I can delete gladly. Ideas? If you are an employee of HP, please do not give the Conference on "genuine cartridges" and how you take care of your printer. I've had my printer for 7 years and never had a problem with cartridges not HP. They are all made in China.

This isn't a bad idea, but this does not resolve the issue. There are many complaints from customers about these annoying messages. All HP needs to do is to say to their developers to add a function to disable this feature. What is a marketing thing? Yes, it's a boring marketing question that should really be fixed. It's like Windows display constantly that your device drivers are not fully tested. Of course, when a customer buys a product at a lower price, they take this risk. I hate to be notified 365 days a year that my cartridges are not authentic.

  • Still problems downloading software for printer hp B209a 8.1 on windows

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software according to the instructions online and finally got the box that allowed me to install.  And, of course, I got the message "the system cannot find specified file" which prevented me to settle.  I followed the instructions online for that matter.  Type %windir%\SysWoW64\cmd.exe in the search box, but all that came were several websites discussing - anything on the computer itself.  I went into the windows folder and searched for hpoins and hpwins files, but nothing showed up.  As a gesture of despair, I tried windows for files .dat files and reviewing all of them - several hpxxxxx (x being two other letters or numbers) but no file hpoins or hpwins.  So where should I go from there?  I uninstalled my last download again and waiting for a response.

    HI ncagent,

You may need to configure the wireless again. To do this on the B209a you re - run the part of Setup, should contribute to this document from HP.

Installation of the software of the printer on a wireless network

Windows 8, there are two methods, you can try, if the printer is already configured on the computer via USB or a complete installation of the software method.

Hello soccerjoe. I understand that a fax form opens when you try to print. I think you might be select the "fax" printer device, rather than the normal printing device. When you select 'Print' to whatever program you use, it should bring up a list of printers. Make sure that the machine is selected who does not read 'fax '.

  • DeskJet 2546 b: Wireless print job stays in queue and poster printer offline after the upgrade to Windows 10

I write a fix I found for a pretty annoying problem involving 10 Windows and HP wireless printers.

My Deskjet 2546-b printer was printing OK wireless to the point 8.1 of Windows until that I upgraded my computer to Windows 10. Immediately after I upgraded to Windows 10, I could not scan, so I reinstalled the printer software and has worked for a day or two and then the printer would print not unless I restarted the printer or the computer - sometimes 2 or 3 times. This went on for a few weeks, sometimes it would be nice, sometimes, usually after the computer restarts, he would simply go offline. Once, he went offline 3 times when I was printing about 20 postage labels, recently he went 1 week without any problems.

Long story short, after a lot of troubleshooting and to help a friend to HP, I found the problem to be associated with the WSD/service Port in Windows 10. My printer still maintains a stable connection with my Netgear router (wireless to the printer light stays on blue) and I was able to scan from the HP software and I could ping the printer... but printing would be just stuck in the print queue (the spooler service) and the printer showed offline in the queue, hardware and windows devices , or when printing from a program like Windows.

I learned that if I went in devices and printers, until I sent a print job, if the printer showed offline, I could save time by restarting the printer simply and he would come every time (less painful) online.

But it's just a solution and not a solution.

Nothing worked... not even print and scan doctor. The final fix that worked was to define an IP address manually for the printer, and then I put the print driver to use a standard TCP/IP port.

Here is the step by step. Your printer must already be connected to your network (solid blue on printer).

Step 1: Make sure your printer uses a manual IP address

    (1) to obtain the IP address of your printer:

    • If your printer has a control panel with a menu, it's easy... Just look in the settings menu without wire/report and write your printer IPv4 address.
    • If your printer is not a menu of fancy and repower the computer and printer HP Print and Scan Doctor network menu display use (wireless), or you can connect to your router from a web browser (usually 192.168.1.1) and look at attached IPs (like me). Some printers can also print a report of the network when you hold down some buttons everything back up and running, but you will need to search the web site of the Internet or HP to find the process for your printer model - the report displays the IP Address of the printer.

    (2) once you have the IP address of the printer number, type this information in a web browser... like 192.168.1.x (where x is the last number of your printer)

Web page of the printer should find - otherwise, use another browser (you can use a tablet or iPad if you want). HP has several different forms of printing of web pages (embedded web servers) depending on your printer model, but they all have a large number of parameters.

    (3) since the network tab or section, look for a manual IP address configuration.

    (4) suggest an IP address or type in a new.  I've personally used suggest and then replaced by the last number 241. You want to use a high number, something in the order of 240 to 250 to reduce the risk of problems caused by your router assign this number to something else on your network. Note the 4 digits for the new IP address manual, you will use them later.

    5) click apply and close the web page of the printer.

Step 2: Make the print driver using the manual IP address of the printer

Open the devices and printers in Windows, right click on your printing device and select printer properties. Follow the prompts to get the WSD port and on a new local port...

    1) click on the ports tab.

    (2) add the Port.

    (3) click on after the first screen, and then click new port type.

    (4) enter the IP address of the printer.

    (5) next.

    (6) select the new port.

    7) click OK.

You have now two pilots displayed in the printers and devices window, you can now print... but you might not be able to scan and the HP printing software may not work as he might want to lets you add a new printer when you open it... If Yes, proceed to step 3.

Step 3: Remove print devices and install a new one.

Need to do this to get the software back HP synchronized so you can scan.

    (1) right click 2 print devices listed in the window of your printer and remove them by clicking on remove device.

    (2) open the HP printer Assistant software (from the icon on the desktop or you can search Windows by using the name of your printer).

    (3) installation/add a new printer... go fast and a new device icon is added to the printers and devices window.

    4) return to the printers and devices window and open the properties of the printer again for your printer icon.

    5) go to the ports tab (yet) and you'll see a new selected WSD port, select Port Standard, you created earlier in step 2.

    (6) you have now two print devices in the window (again), but now everything should work.

These two devices alone from here on out. Do not remove one and everything should work fine. At least it worked for me. I hope it works for you. I'm hoping a Windows update resolves this problem soon, I see many people who cannot print or scan wireless after they upgraded - not just the stuff of HP.

I had no problem with the printer before installing Windows 8.1.  We installed the latest printer drivers from the HP website.  The printer wants to print to the back to the front, even though we clearly specified it to print from front to back.  It is typical for every program I use, but more troublesome for Sage 100 contractor, where I print paychecks and A / P checks.  We tried to uninstall drivers and reinstall them.  I even tried to "back to front" because it seemed he wanted to do the opposite.  He printed back to front.  Dial-up, rebooted and it continues to print at the back to the front.  I contacted HP Support and they don't have a clue as to why this is happening.  Help, please!
