expose the virtual machine via home router

Hello

I have my router configured to allow access to a virtual machine running Ubuntu 64 bit headless. The router allows port 80 to pass to the virtual machine. I was able to access the machine's web server once and then I get an error saying that the connection has expired. Determine, I can connect to the Web server on the computer virtual machine host through the LAN IP. I tried bridged and NAT.

When debugging this issue, I changed the configuration of the router to allow access to port 80 on the host computer. This succeeded and I see VM host machine from outside my local network.

I looked around your site and google, but I can't use the correct search terms. Can you point me to the documentation for it or let me know how do ?

Thank you

-Rob

If you use the NAT, the virtual machine is originally a host-level NAT address (172.x.y.z) that your Internet router knows nothing.  You can forward port 80 on the router IP of your host, and then configure/Library/Application Support / VMware Fusion/vmnet8/nat.conf port 80 requests for port forward to address 172 of your VM on port 80.  Need to turn off Apache on OS X, if it works because it would cause a port conflict.

Your other option is to change the VM from NAT filled, in which case your OS X and your Ubuntu VM would be on the same subnet with a DHCP address, given by the Internet router.  The router might forward traffic directly to the virtual machine without any additional port forwarding.

  • Cannot save the virtual machine in VMWare Server 2

    Hi all:

I created a VM (12.1 OpenSuSE 32bits) in VMWare Workstation 7; then I copied it to a host VMWare Server 2.

When I try to save the virtual machine via the web, the server fails (or at least interrupts the response from Web page), so I tried to save it via command line.

After searching a bit I found this:

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1006160

The question is now that I can't find any vmware-cmd anywhere, and when I run vmware-vim-cmd I get the following error:

    vmh2: / data/vmachines/postgresql-box # vim - vmware - cmd solo/registervm /data/vmines/postgresql-box/postgresql-box.vmx
    Connection failed: vim.fault.NoPermission

So I'm stuck... someone can help me?

BTW: what is ESX, ESXi and what version of ESXi is included in VMWare Server 2?

    Thank you very much

I can't tell you exactly what are the causes of the problem. What I would try (a solution) is to create a new virtual machine in VMware Server with the same specifications as the original one, then copy the two files hard in the new virtual machine folder and edit the .vmx file for the new VM 'OpenSuSE - 12.1 - cl1 - 000001.vmdk' use as its virtual drive.

  • How to create the virtual machine to a virtual machine existed file?

I have two hard drives on my VMware host. There are virtual machines on a SATA drive, how do I list these files of virtual machines and copy one of them to create a new virtual machine (it can save a lot of my time!). I did this way on VMware server 2.0 because I can see what they were and where they were under Windows. But on vSphere, how can I do? Maybe you guys have other ways to do it?

    Thank you!

    George

On vSphere, I suggest you use autonomous vConventer instead. It is quite simple and easy to use. Alternatively, you can copy or clone the virtual disk to the virtual machine via the Console (ESX) Service offline

Is it possible that I can configure my Virtual Machine...?

    Hello

    Not really...

For an environment hosted... If you can access the console of the host, you can always access the console of the virtual machine regardless of the State of the network outside of the console. VMware Workstation, Fusion and server all fall into this category.

For ESXi/ESX... you need a host outside to access the console of the virtual machine. ESX and ESXi not displayed graphics or VMs of their consoles and management devices. So, you need an external machine that can run the vSphere Client or access to the virtual machine via RDP, VNC according to Guest OS involved or SSH.

  • Persistent routes no longer work after the virtual machine restarts

    Hello community.

I was hoping that someone can shine a light on a problem I have experienced. I have a virtual machine that multiple network cards. Some are exposed to the Internet, some are just private and some are B2B connections. Now, I put the roads for a particular to Adapater it limits by using this command: route add 13.x.x.x mask 255.255.255.255 if0x10005-p 10.x.x.x. I could pinch the IP address once I put it but once I restart the virtual machine of the road is still there, but I can no longer to pinch the INVESTIGATION period. This happens in several environments I.

I am running windows 2003 which has been recently patched with the latest

I'm running the latest ESX3 and VC 2.5

    Any help would be great.

FYI - Pinch is another form of Ping.

Set the gateway on the roads. Both that the getway is only not shared by any other way on the same system your traffic should go out any interface is associated with the network which is located in the gateway. in this way, you don't have to worry about the interface.

  • Windows XP Home Edition (Version 2002) include SP1 is the Virtual Machine for Java (MSJVM) installed on this and future Service Packs Microsoft remove it?

While the installation of Microsoft DirectX 9.0 c on my Windows XP Home Edition (Version 2002) operating system (not sure if the 2002 version in it's original state included SP1), EULA (EULA) provided the contract included a paragraph stating that "ONLY in regards to THE VIRTUAL MACHINE MICROSOFT FOR JAVA, YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED to INSTALL THIS OS COMPONENT ON A MACHINE THAT CONTAINS A ALREADY the VERSION OF THE MICROSOFT JAVA VIRTUAL MACHINE". Assuming that the MSJVM was included with Windows XP Home Edition (Version 2002), I advanced and accepted the EULA. I then downloaded and installed Windows XP SP2 and SP3, but wasn't sure whether SP2 and SP3 removed the MSJVM in any point. However, research on the question, I discovered the site "FAQ of Transition MSJVM" (updated May 7, 2004), who answered the question: ' if I install Windows XP SP1a or later, it will remove my current MSJVM? " with "No, the operating system upgrade will not remove a MSJVM existing on the computer" (http://www.microsoft.com/about/legal/en/us/interoperability/java/faq.aspx). However, I can't find any instance of it on my computer.

    So my questions are:

    1. Windows XP Home (Version 2002) Edition include SP1?
    2. The MSJVM is installed on this version?
    3. SP2 or SP3 removes the MSJVM in any point to?

  • PowerCLI script for the deployment of virtual machines via the model using customizations comments

Hello... I hope someone can give me a script that will do the following:

    (1) provision VMs in vCenter template (I need 125 + VMs created in the next day or two)

    (2) use the existing customizations of comments in vCenter

    (3) let me enter data warehouses available to be created on the virtual machines.  Example: I want that VMs on warehouses of specific data as LUN2, LUN5, LUN6, LUN12, LUN1, etc...  However, the script must have the ability to know when a data store is near the threshold of capacity, say 90%, so it can use one of the other warehouses available, identified in the script... similar to storage profiles.  We still have to adopt profiles storage but plan to do so once upgraded us to v5.1 in the next month or two.  We hope that this will help us keep our replicated LUN more organized during the use of SRM and copy to remote groups, our team of storage's configuration on 3PAR.

Additional information: I will use 2 styles... Windows XP and Win7.  Their respective sizes are 40 and 60 GB due to all applications for stable DR.  Data warehouses are ea 500 GB.

Please let me know if additional information is necessary... Thank you!!!

  • Assign a static IP address via DHCP based on the Mac address of the virtual machine

    Hi all

It is especially a feature request, as I'm sure that it is not currently possible to do what I want to do...

I would like to be able to assign static IP addresses to VM without having to manually configure the network settings of the virtual machine directly. I want to be able to do it from the DHCP settings in the virtual network Editor.

Most of the routers DHCP allow this. They give an IP address through DHCP based on the MAC address of the client. This means that the customer is concerned that he receives a regular IP DHCP address, but it is never change.

DHCP is the default option for all OS this makes things much easier to manage, as IP addresses is assigned in the same way, in one place for all DHCP clients, regardless of the client operating system, and without having to manually keep track of which the IP is assigned to which customers etc..

Also AFAIK at least for Ubuntu, you cannot assign a static IP address without having to also statically assign to the DNS server. It is only the IP address I need to be static, so I prefer not to have to worry about manually assign the DNS server.

I can just kind of fudge making the really long DHCP lease duration, but the maximum is 99 days only, so finally addresses are going to change, that would mean a whole bunch of reconfiguration for VM services, etc..

Does anyone know if the workstation 9 has this ability? I am currently on version 8, but I would probably upgrade this function only if she can do it.

If there is no way to do what I want to directly through the virtual network Editor, can anyone recommend a way to do this, perhaps using Guest only network and then, by running a kind of services to the 3rd party NAT and DHCP on the host?

    Thank you

    Eugene

There is no GUI option to get what you are looking for, but you can do it manually. Please take a look at Re: assign a static IP to guest with network adapter NAT Virt? where I posted an example.

  • Run the script inside the virtual machine the user when the user connects or reconnects

    Hello

is it possible to detect the user that the user has connected or reconnected to his office inside the virtual machine and run a script?

It is also possible within the VM user to determine if the user is connected and how long?

One way to do this is via the following powershell command, but this only works if the user is connected through PCoIP Protocol.

    Get-WmiObject-class Win32_PerfRawData_TeradiciPerf_PCoIPSessionGeneralStatistics - SessionDurationSeconds property

    Best regards

    > it is possible to detect the user that the user has connected either reconnected to his office inside the virtual machine and run a script?

You can run scripts as user on login and reconnect, this has been a feature since 3.0. See running commands on the desktop view.

    > It is possible inside the VM user to determine if the user is connected and how long?

I don't think that we expose, but you should be able to query Windows for the connection time, or you could write the last time to connect with a script (maybe that is the reason for your first question?).

  • VMware workstation and ReadyNAS to store the virtual machine

    Hello

I just bought a Netgear Readynas box for home (Readnas RND2000 XRAID SIN) and it seems like a big box to keep a backup of my critical data and flow data and video music.

Now that will take about 100 GB in space and I'll always have weird to play with 400 GB and it made me think if I host all my test VM I created using VMware workstation, for the moment I use a local computer, but its lack of disk space, I tried to put the virtual computer on an external drive and performance is ok on it as well but for me , it would be ideal if I could store them on the readynas and open them through VM workstation.

Of course put it on a NAS box could be problematic, has anyone tried this on one of these boxes ReadyNAS? its probably not designed for this type of data and traffic, but if anyone has got, it works, I would be interested to hear comments.

One of the potential problems in my view is I'll be going through a wireless router with a 4 port 100 mb go and see that as a problem, it replaces a gigabit switch would make a huge difference, or would it still slow?

I would appreciate any advice on this.

    Thank you

I'll guess that your external hard drives are USB.  In this case my answer is Firewire.  I run several of my virtual machines to external Firewire drives very good success.  While I ran a few virtual machines from USB, USB just isn't the sustained performance of Firewire.  This is the case on my Macbook Pro and my HP Pavilion (with built-in Firewire.)

That said, even if I don't have any experience with the ReadyNAS, I use a Windows Server as NFS storage to an ESX Server.  The gigabit switch is almost a necessity.  Possible about 100 MB, but significantly better on gigabit.  In addition, the link of the ESX to Windows NFS is on a physically separate local network segment, so I don't have any problems with the network traffic slows down the virtual machine.  I have not tried Workstation with storage NFS, as I always got Firewire on all my machines so I kept for most of the virtual machine from the network.  YMMV, of course, but I suspect that you will have to keep the rest of the traffic network in mind if you can not create a separate network for NFS storage.  (for example: no internet surfing on the host while the virtual machine is running.)
