Extend the data store on ESXI 5.0 servers

I have (2) 5.0 to aid a ESXI servers an ISCSI SAN that I increased the storage capacity on.  I see that I can increase the ability to store data in the Client VMware;  But I was wondering how this is done when there are (2) ESXI servers share the same SAN?

Can I increase the storage in one or do I have to do the same for both?

I was wondering,

Ken

Hello

After that lie on the same host, the second should rescan it's HBA and detect the new size. If it does not, trigger a manual rescan.

    Abrams,

That's all I can help you.  These instructions are based on the Perc 5 / i controller, which I think you have on our system.  You have not specified the server so I just assumed that this is so.

    1. unscrew the hot spare that you just made.  Follow this link from Dell.
    http://support.Dell.com/support/eDOCS/storage/RAID/PERC5/en/UG/HTML/chapterh.htm#wp1061343

2 follow the link for the installation of virtual disks - http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/storage/RAID/PERC5/en/UG/HTML/chapterh.htm#wp1069357

This link has three steps to void, skip the step on "spare parts of designate hot."
    a. create the virtual disks and select virtual disk options.   -Online steps to create another disk group and add the new disk to the disk group.
    (b) designate the drives hot spares (optional). =>, YOU CAN SKIP THIS STEP
    c. initialize virtual disks. -online must do.  just do not initialize the incorrect disk.

After the step #2 c, you should be able to access the drive in ESXi or command-line (list of nmp esxcli devices).

And no, you cannot add this manaully until do you step #2 above which is to define the disk group, creating virtual disks and initialize the virtual disk.

    Good luck.

  • copy the iso in the data store? ESXi?

    Hey guys,.

I was wondering if there is any way I can copy an iso image / a bone in the data store instead of use a disc to load it up.

  • Extend the data store

    Hello

We got the HP Blades using SAN storage, recently, we want to expand our storage of current data (644,69 GB) to 1 tera store, then we increase the volume for datastore1 (esx host) via the hp management system.

We do not see the device it detects the size of the total capacity GB 928,96, but when we check the size of the store of data, is only 644.49, so we click on Add button and we cannot see any other device or what we can add to existing storage.

Grateful if someone can tell us what to do...

Given that the data store is located on the installation disc, you may need to push manually, as explained in the http://deinoscloud.wordpress.com/2010/05/03/how-to-increase-the-size-of-a-local-datastore-on-an-esxi4/

  • Cannot remove the data store in esxi 3.5 - can help you

OK - I have a problem. I messed up and now I'm stuck.

I was "apparently" in the middle of a converter working, and I deleted the comments of esxi3.5, while the converter still worked.

I selected the rafale and made a removal of the disc that worked, however the structure of associated file (windows 2000 Server) for this guest has not been deleted, so I chose my data store (datastore1) and - do you have a store of navigation data and when I try to delete the folder associated with the guest, I deleted I get the following error :

"General failure caused by file" (with a "/" on the next line) and all I can do at this point is to click OK box to acknowledge the error and I can't delete the folder. I can't rename it either.

I don't know how to get rid of it. I tried to create a new client with the same name as the folder and delete the comments again, but that does not work either.

I'm really stuck - I'm afraid to go into maintenance mode because I have no idea what I'm going to be confronted here since I never used the maintenance mode.

any help or ideas would be really appreciated.

You can try to do a refresh of the data store. The folder structure is not re read very often. In the data store Navigator, click the folder root on the left side and click on the Refresh button.

  • the maximum size of the data store in ESXi 4

as I don't have a lot of space left on my data vmfs3 store, plans to add a 3 TB of HDD to the ESXi 4.1 Host. I will then use the new HDD for a creation of a new data store.

I also want to ensure that the block size is the same as the existing data store.

    Please notify.

    Thank you.

The maximum size of the LUN/disk in this case is 2 TB less 512 bytes (see KB VMware: ESX/ESXi 3.x/4.x hosts don't support 2 TB LUN for more details). The maximum size of virtual disk with a block size of 4 MB, please take a look at the article I mentioned in my previous post.

  • Can NOT see the data store after ESXi update host?

    Hi all

We use the host ESXi 3.5 on DELL PE 2850 with RAID 5 local storage.  Today, I ran utility update for the host VMware and firmware updated BIOS and RAID on the host computer before a restart of the system.  After the reboot, the system correctly loads the operating system and when I check for storage, the data (with critical VM) store is missing.  Can not see that again.

Please help me to recover my data with the virtual machines in her store.

    Thank you

    Nadine

ESXi is installed on the same Partition RAID 5, which is located in the VMFS data store? for example. do you know that the partition is still intact?

According to what the RAID firmware upgrade has done, it is possible that you may need to set the LVM. EnableResignature option 1 if the score ended with a new UUID.

  • Extend the data via vSphere Client store - error ' call 'HostDatastoreSystem.QueryVmfsDatastoreExtendOptions' object 'ha-datastore System' on ESXi 'IP' failed '.

    Hi @all,

I want to thank my datastore on my 5.1 esxi.

When you extend the data store on the vSphere Client Console, I get the error message:

German: Call von 'HostDatastoreSystem.QueryVmfsDatastoreExtendOptions' as Objekt "ha-datastoresystem" auf fehlgeschlagen ESXi 'IP' ist.

English: Call 'HostDatastoreSystem.QueryVmfsDatastoreExtendOptions' to object "ha-store system data" in ESXi 'IP' failed

Anyone an idea why I can't extend the data store? The new drive is correctly detected.

  • Problem adding disks to the data store

I currently have a data store RAID 5 consisting of four discs of 250gig. I bought two identical drives more and am trying to extend the data store.

I have a HP Proliant ML350 G6. I plugged the two new drives, add them in the raid array and now get this error in esxi:

Volme 1 on HPSA1 logic: RAID 5: 698 GB disk 1,2,3,4,5,6: currently in expansion

I thought it was a normal phenomenon since I am expanding the raid, but I don't think it would take more than a few minutes. He had this attention for at least four hours now. I did something wrong? I'm trying to expand this data store for the two new drives in the raid to enlarge.

I've attached a screenshot of the warning.

The virtual machine has a snapshot. In order to increase the size of the virtual drive, remove the snapshot by using the Snapshot Manager. As long as there is a snapshot virtual disk, that they can not be changed.

  • Technical question from the data store

    Hello everyone.

I have a question that you can maybe answer:

"Is it possible to have a WARNING message (check) before formatting a LUN (EMC)?"

    Let me explain:

We currently have a datastore composed of 12 LUN (of 236 GB), and even if this isn't in the best practices of VMware, I made a mistake (und) when creating a new data store.

Indeed, I used a logic unit number which was attached directly to a virtual machine (in Raw Device) pour set up my new data store.

Would you have a solution that makes a data control (on the logic unit number) and which could see us the partition proposed pour extend the data store contains data!

Thanks in advance for your answer!

    J. Gaspoz

    Hi Julien

Nice to see you on communities

The vCenter will list all LUNS that are not already in the "Add storage" wizzard data warehouses, and by definition, a RDM en of is not formatted VMFS, since the lun belongs to the VM and it met with filesystem clean so son.

There is therefore no direct way to pour do what you're asking (UN ESX knows nothing about the data on a non-vmfs LUNs).

Personally, plug-in a simple way: the LUN ID. All the LUNs that will be used in RDMS are presented to my ESX with UN LUN ID between 50 and 70 (f.ex.). So I know whether or not a lun is RDM.

Otherwise maybe third-party products (rv maybe tools) can get out a report listing the VM using the RDM.

    I hope that helps!

    Best regards.

  • ESXi 5.5 only 4 TB usable for the data store

    Hi all

Although in vSphere Client 5,46 TB of capacity is visible, I can only use 3.64 TB to a data store.

    Configuration:

    -HP Proliant Microserver N40L

I read a lot of articles on > limits of 2 TB of older versions of ESXi or controllers, limitation of 4 TB of c# vSphere Client, old firmware and esxi driver problems, etc.

But I could not understand the problem.

The P410 controller shows 5.5 TB:

I don't know why the 1.8 to vmfs volume is not list anywhere (which does not appear in the list of file system of storage of esxcli also). Do you have any before partition created manually. If you think that if there is no data in this 1.8 to vmfs partition you can remove it by using the partedutil command and then use this free space to extend the existing 3.8 to. But do not forget before you delete the partitiaon

  • Target iscsi ESXI 5.0, active path connected, mounted, are not not in the data store data store

    HI -.

I am looking for help to point me in the right direction.  This problem occurred after a reboot of the system.

    I'm in vmware esxi essentials 5.0.0 821926

I use the starwind software as my iSCSI target

I use ISCSI to connect to my server from storage to the esxi hosts.

I have 2 warehouses of data showing inactive under clusters of data storage and the data store.  I have a third-party data store on the same server that is loading properly.

I currently have the same behavior on three esxi hosts:

under configuration - storage adapters is the ISCSI path is active. Data warehouses appear under devices and mounted.  In data warehouses, they are inactive. On the same storage server

on the starwind Server - I have

    built a new target

removed and added the databases to the new target

Changed the IP address of the target.

On Esxi hosts, I removed the ISCSI server, discover places BOF dynamic and static and added under the same or IPs news discovery

I can restart esxi hosts & storage servers and get to that same point.

Whenever I find myself in the same place - course assets, devices mounted, inactive in data warehouses

I don't know what else to share, let me know what you need to know to help out me.

    Thank you

    Dylan

OK, incase someone crosses my ramblings, it may help.  My original question was warehouses of data that would not rise.  They were visible as devices in the area of storage under devices and as devices in the scsi adapter.

When I would try to force mount them, add storage, keep the signature, mount they wouldn't mount.  I did some research and my question was after a failed mount attempt strength as got data attached as snapshots warehouses.  I then mounted force them and he tells will data warehouses and I got them back.

I followed this KB to identify and resolve the problem

manipulation of vSphere detected as snapshot LUN LUN (1011387)

    When it was over, I tried to add vms back and found a new show.  Power of vms would expire.  the vmkernel.log showed;

I had latency huge read write showing upwards, 3K and more

After several searches, I had in the ESXShell and found that there is no conflict of booking.

On a whim, I took inventory all virtual machines that are now inaccessible.  I then added a DOS virtual machine. Alto! the latency down to version 1.2 a.7 ms for all data warehouses.

ultimately the instructions said you may need to add virtual machines in the inventory, but does not remove all virtual machines first.  I was grabbing vms that were not in stock, so I didn't remove the old virtual machines in the inventory.

  • Creation of data store in ESXi 5 using the CLI

    Hi all

I tried to create script to store data on a local drive to ESXi 5. I found lots of instructions for 4.1 whereby you use partedUtil to initialize the disk first and then use the vmkfstools command to create the vmfs volume and then use the command vmfs_create to vim - cmd to create the data store. However, version 5, I could only (virtually ghetto) where they don't use vmkfstools followed partedUtil and did not use vim - cmd vmfs_create. Someone can tell me if that's all that is required, or do I still need to use vmfs_create.

    Kind regards

    Vlad

    Vlad,

You don't need to use vim - cmd vmfs_create option, the command vmkfstools appearing on my blog, which is used to create the VMFS volume, which in turn provides you with a VMFS data store. Vim - cmd did essentially the same thing if you do not use the vmkfstools command
