Extend your hard drive in v7

Hello

I have workstation 7.0 and you want to use the expand Disk feature. I have a virtual disk of 60 GB, which is NOT taking any space or the file size is currently about 33 GB. I want to increase from 60 GB to 80 GB, but I want to understand how this will be repeated as I threw it off the coast of thought, this would be a quick thing that I assumed it was more a thing of config (given that the disc has not been extended to 60 GB already), but it seems to do took ages on the creation of a temporary in the case of virtual disk file. When he got like 20 GB, I cancelled the process that I was afraid that it would create a file of 80 GB and I have only 50 GB left on this disc!

Thus, the questions are:-

-It creates a temporary file of 80 GB?

-If so, why?

-It will have to develop the real virtual disk to 80 GB file to complete the operation? (I like to have it use only properly!)

Thanks in advance

See you soon

Dan

the simplest and by far cleaner to do is to add another disk.

You can expand the vmdk you now - but it will not work if you have snapshots.

It will not grow as the partition, so you should always use third-party tools to extend the partition - as extpart.exe or gparted LinuxLiveCD.

To answer your questions:

the disc will not extend to the new nominal size of 80 GB and develop it does not use a large temp file.

Expansion may add a few mbs only - but then you will always fix the partition.

Attention - the expansion is done in place so you must know how to manage the partition expansion before trying this.

Unfortunately, we do not know what operating system your guest is - so we cannot tell you how to do better

You can download the program for diagnotics HUtil Samsung http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/support/downloads/Hutil210_iso_for_CDROM_drive.zip

It's an ISO image then unzip the file and write the ISO image to a CD.

Then restart the PC and booting with the CD. To do this, you must change the priority/boot order in the BIOS to boot from the CD first.

Once you have started the program HUtil it will detect your hard drive Samsung. Select the hard disk.

Enter the main Menu on the tool. Go into the menu of the tool and enter Auto diagnosis. Enable diagnostics to run, once done it will ask you if you want to perform a surface analysis - enter Yes. The analysis of surface will take some time to complete. If errors are found, it reported.

Once more I recommend you backup your data as soon as possible, preferably before executing HUtil program.

For more information on the program of HUtil you can go here: http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/support/utilities/Support_HUTIL.html

Write when the cache is enabled: when data are written back to the hard drive, it is written in the cache that is much faster to actually write to the hard drive. An acknowledgement of receipt is then sent by saying that the data has been written on the hard disk, when in fact it does not. In this way so that the data is actually being written to the hard drive to the rest of the system can continue to work. However memory cache is volatile, if the power goes off, the data in the cache is destroyed and if it has not been written to disk hard and yet he's lost.

If your settings are correct. Usually the drives are configured for performance and the write cache is enabled. While flash drives and memory cards are configured for the fast-moving and write cache is disabled.

  • Formatting your hard drive.

When you format your hard drive, come from programs that were originally on the computer?

    Hello:

When you format your hard drive, you erase all content including the operating system. Basically, you have a blank disc.

If you are referring to a system recovery, then Yes, the original operating system and programs are restored in your PC as the day you brought it home.

Be sure to back up all the files that you want to keep and have all discs/files installation progam for the programs that you have installed since that date, that you want to reinstall once you run the recovery process or use the recovery disks.

A recovery will scan all these things.

Followed by the hard drive (3FO), I can only click f2 and it gives me the link to visit the Help Center. Large. I am pleased that my DBAN guide has helped you.

Now that you are on the factory settings, I advise Dell DataSafe Local Backup uninstall and upgrade to the latest version of Dell backup and restoration which has many bugs/improvements, including the ability to restore to another hard drive which is useful in case the hard disk fails in the future or you decide to upgrade later to an SSD. The XPS 8300 running perfectly with a SSD, I have mine put in place with one. Then you can create a Rescue Disk (external hard drive Bootable) or Backup factory (Bootable USB Flash Drive) that will be promoted the recovery compared to the facts media with Dell DataSafe Local Backup. See here for more details:

    http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/Dell-backup-and-recovery/

Note This is not a UEFI BIOS (he missed just out on the passage to the UEFI) but may start from an external hard drive.

  • Don't change your hard drive empty guarantee?

I think that the answer may be obvious for this but I can't find anywhere so here we Mix.

OK, so I posted on here a few days on my failed hard drive and determined that I should be replaced, using the extended warranty that I had which allows a free repair on the spot.

However, two days ago I had to go back to the House of my parents for personal reasons and have not yet updated my address for lenovo. I also not received a call from a technician again. It would not be a big deal, but I start a job in a couple of days where I worked as a sales agent of my laptop and I need it to be functional, so it can run the software suitable for Monday.

As I've already got the replacement of the hard disk and USB recovery by lenovo post, would it void the warranty if I took it on myself (or a more computer savvy friends) to replace, rather than waiting for the technician to contact me? This isn't a question of impatience, simply a question of "I need my laptop to be 100% functional, so I can work it. Thank you!

It is primarily focused on the opinion, but I'm sure that the hard drives are believed (by customer replaceable units). Given that they you mailed the replacement drive, you should be able to install a new, and return of mail.

The box with the hard drive came with a return shipping label? If so, just call Lenovo support and check if you can just do the replacement yourself. Only downside is that you also have to redo the Windows installation if the drive is not image pre.

Once again, I recommend you call to confirm, but if you're uncomfortable, replacing, it will not void your warranty.
