Extend your hard drive on the SCSI node given

Hello

Looking for a script to extend the hard disk to SCSI 0:0 on a given VM according to the following logic.

1. take a CSV entry with vmnames

2. check each VM in the csv file if hard drive connected on SCSI node 0:0 corresponds to 15 GB.

3. Enter the data store that have the drive and check if the free space is greater than 46 GB

4. If the hard drive is equal to 15 GB and the data store that it hosts have more than 46 GB of free space, and then set a new size of 20 GB to the HDD. (e.g. to increase the size of 5 GB)

Thanks in advance!

Try something like this

$hdSizeGB = 15 $dsFreeGB = 46 $hdNewSizeGB = 20

Import-Csv "C:\vmnames.csv" | %{
    $hd = Get-VM -Name $_.vmName | Get-HardDisk | where {$_.Extensiondata.Unitnumber -eq 0 -and            (Get-ScsiController -HardDisk $_).Extensiondata.BusNumber -eq 0}
    if($hd){
        if($hd.CapacityKb -eq ($hdSizeGB * 1MB)){
            $dsName = $hd.Filename.Split(']')[0].TrimStart('[')
            $ds = Get-Datastore -Name $dsName            if($ds.FreeSpaceMB -ge ($dsFreeGB * 1KB)){
                Set-HardDisk -HardDisk $hd -CapacityKB ($hdNewSizeGB * 1MB) -Confirm:$false            }
        }
    }
}

  • Extend your hard drive in v7

    Hello

    I have workstation 7.0 and you want to use the expand Disk feature. I have a virtual disk of 60 GB, which is NOT taking any space or the file size is currently about 33 GB. I want to increase from 60 GB to 80 GB, but I want to understand how this will be repeated as I threw it off the coast of thought, this would be a quick thing that I assumed it was more a thing of config (given that the disc has not been extended to 60 GB already), but it seems to do took ages on the creation of a temporary in the case of virtual disk file. When he got like 20 GB, I cancelled the process that I was afraid that it would create a file of 80 GB and I have only 50 GB left on this disc!

    Thus, the questions are:-

    -It creates a temporary file of 80 GB?

    -If so, why?

    -It will have to develop the real virtual disk to 80 GB file to complete the operation? (I like to have it use only properly!)

    Thanks in advance

    See you soon

    Dan

    the simplest and by far cleaner to do is to add another disk.

    You can expand the vmdk you now - but it will not work if you have snapshots.

    It will not grow as the partition, so you should always use third-party tools to extend the partition - as extpart.exe or gparted LinuxLiveCD.

    To answer your questions:

    the disc will not extend to the new nominal size of 80 GB and develop it does not use a large temp file.

    Expansion may add a few mbs only - but then you will always fix the partition.

    Attention - the expansion is done in place so you must know how to manage the partition expansion before trying this.

    Unfortunately, we do not know what operating system your guest is - so we cannot tell you how to do better

  • Help pass the hard drives of a scsi controller to another scsi controller!

    Hello

    I deployed a cluster of virtual machines from a template and trying to customize them according to the requirement. I called one of the post and used the code below. Changed the settings of the virtual machines, but the image is corrupt all the time.

    # get the virtual computer object

    $vmVMSTORE23 = get - VM VMSTORE23

    # a thin in the storageformat of hard disk

    $vmVMSTORE23 | Get-hard drive | Together-hard drive - thin StorageFormat

    # define the type of SCSI controller

    $vmVMSTORE23 | Get-SCSI controller. Set controller SCSI-type VirtualLsiLogicSAS

    I tried the other way, adding a new scsi controller and move the existing hard disks to the new controller scsi. A hard disk created along deployment of a model does not again move scsi controller and vm tries to start node scsi 1:0 and no node scsi 0:1. This is the snap of code I used

    $VirtualMachinesDetails | % {New-disk-hard - VM $_.} Name - CapacityGB 1 - Datastore (Get-Datastore $_.) (Magasin de données)-persistence IndependentNonPersistent-confirm: $false} (disc 2)

    $VirtualMachinesDetails | % {New-disk-hard - VM $_.} {Name - DiskType $_.rawtype - Devicename $_ .rdm1 - confirm: $false} (Disc 3)

    $VirtualMachinesDetails | % {New-disk-hard - VM $_.} {Name - DiskType $_.rawtype - Devicename $_ .rdm2 - confirm: $false} (drive 4)

    $disk = $VirtualMachinesDetails | % {Get-disk hard - VM $_.} Name | Select the option - 4 first}

    $VirtualMachinesDetails | % {New-SCSI - HDD controller $disk - type $_.} Type}

    Someone please help me with this.

    Thanks in advance

    SAI

    What I wanted to say, create a new hard drive with the new type of controller.

    Like this

    $vmName = "TestVM"$VM = Get-VM -Name $vmName

    New-HardDisk -VM $vm -CapacityGB 1 -ThinProvisioned | New-ScsiController -Type VirtualLsiLogicSAS

    Then restart the virtual machine and the guest operating system must take care of the driver.

    Once the driver is installed in the guest operating system, you can move the hard disk that contains the system partition to the new controller.

    $vmName = "TestVM"$VM = Get-VM -Name $vmName

    $controller = Get-ScsiController -Name "SCSI Controller 1" -VM $vmyGet-HardDisk -VM $VM -Name "Hard disk 1" | Set-HardDisk -Controller $controller -Confirm:$false

  • Why my hard drive frequently the race, for an extended intermittently?

    My hard drive accelerates frequently (even when I'm not using it) and seems to be racing (for up to 30 minutes at a time). It seems that the computer is actively working on something and runs very slowly if I try to open Explorer or Outlook. The events come & go and can fluctuate quickly. It's driving me crazy. It's noisy and irritating. Don't know if it's a software is automatically updated (eg. Updates Windows or PC Tools antivirus). I did all the checks the system, etc. defragmented. The machine runs well between these events. System checks do not seem to identify all errors. A recent check by a technician after a blue screen error, identified faulty RAM, since replaced, but not other issues.

    I suspect it has something to do with the analysis of the components of the PC Tools software in real time.  According to the options you have installed/enabled, you do not have to all or they are in competition with other things.

    What is your version of XP and the Service Pack?

    Do you have other AV tools installed such as McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, Comodo, etc..

    You can temporarily disable PC Tools and see what things look like.

    You needn't Download Process Monitor.

    You need to download Process Explorer from here:

    http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/Sysinternals/bb896653

    You'll like Process Explorer when you get the hang of it.  Process Explorer is the Manager of Windows taskbar on steroids.

    Process Explorer installs nothing so it won't slow down your system since it works only on request.

    Process Explorer can seem a little intimidating at first because it has so much information, but you will begin to make love the way it works when you're looking for performance problems.   You can even say EP you want it to be your new default 'Task Manager' value in the future.  You can always run the original tasks as Manager.

    Once you get Process Explorer running, expand the columns, made drag the corners of the screen for it's largest, etc., so you can see as much information as possible in the window.  Now you can really see what is running on the system.

    Here's a screenshot of my poor system when I use Process Explorer:

    http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/2567/ProcessExplorer.PNG

    The small window at the top right shows graphic things.  Each window is a different as rolling graph:

    CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT
    Validation of the system
    Physical memory
    Network
    Disc
    E/S

    Roll your mouse over each small window to see what it says that you can see what they are doing.  Double-click the window to make it bigger.

    If your drive is too busy, look a peak in the disc window or double click it to make it bigger.  When you see a spike, you pass the mouse over it and it will tell you the process on your system that is the cause.

    For the experience, when PE upward and running and things are settled down, choose Tools in the properties of your HARD drive and then scan your HARD drive for defragmentation.  You don't need actually to defragment the volume since that take too long - just it will analyze and watch the graph of disk in Explorer process for the tip.

    When analyze you the volume for fragmentation, see the drive activity in process Explorer and hover your mouse over the edge and he'll say dfrgntfs.exe, so now you know that cause the Spike.

    Close all applications that you don't need to your troubleshooting so that they don't clutter things, is PE up and running, let things settle down and wait for the fly and the outbreak in the graph of the disc, hover your mouse over the edge and find out who is the culprit.

    Large. I am pleased that my DBAN guide has helped you.

    Now that you are on the factory settings, I advise Dell DataSafe Local Backup uninstall and upgrade to the latest version of Dell backup and restoration which has many bugs/improvements, including the ability to restore to another hard drive which is useful in case the hard disk fails in the future or you decide to upgrade later to an SSD. The XPS 8300 running perfectly with a SSD, I have mine put in place with one. Then you can create a Rescue Disk (external hard drive Bootable) or Backup factory (Bootable USB Flash Drive) that will be promoted the recovery compared to the facts media with Dell DataSafe Local Backup. See here for more details:

    Note This is not a UEFI BIOS (he missed just out on the passage to the UEFI) but may start from an external hard drive.

  • Disabling a hard drive in the Device Manager make it stop spinning and using power?

    If I go into DEVICE - DISK DRIVES MANAGER, then I right click on my second hard drive internal (not hand on which Windows Vista is installed, but my extra hard drive that I purchased separately and added inside my computer on a SATA port), and then click DISABLE, then can you tell me if this selected hard drive :

    1 stop rotating?

    2. always powered?

    In other words, DISABLING a drive hard internal in Device Manager stops it to use the power and spinning?

    The reason I ask is the following: I want to use this second hard drive only for backup, this is why I don't want to use the power and wear when I'm not a backup, in other words, almost all the time.

    Thank you!

    Hello

    Well Yes and no--or it depends on the BIOS - Controller - the inner workings of the drive and
    usually, they will follow this path:

    A Second hard drive uses the power when not used?
    http://www.ehow.com/about_5333434_second-power-not-being-used.html

    Don't forget there is a report which do not use the drive to maximize your comfort removes
    most of the advantage of not to use regularly to preserve its life expectancy, which is a little questionable
    anyway. If use you really only rarely, and then it does not start and stop much, then you
    could have extended his life (or not). If the drive is the size, it could be put to better use
    then extend his life a little reward compared to the optimization of its purpose.

    Here is a recent discussion however please note there is no 'right' way and certainly there
    is a roll in all methods.

    http://photo.NET/digital-darkroom-Forum/00VBXM

    "Generally" things that have the most impact on life in car (assuming that no default) are "generally" heat,
    so frequent starts and stops and finally use. The problem is it is almost impossible to
    really effectively control the last two unless you use rarely drive. (Problems of food can
    also impair a driver, especially brown outs (low power) and voltage spikes.

    I hope this helps.

  • Add the new hard drive into the data store in ESXi 4.1

    Hi all

    I got ESX 4.1 installed on the Dell server, and I have 3 virtual machines on a data store.

    I added a new 500 GB scsi hard drive to the server,

    and I need to add it to the datasore or create a new...

    How can I see this new hard drive? and add it to the data store?

    Waiting for your help.

    concerning

    Abrams

    Oracle system engineer

    Abrams,

    That's all I can help you.  These instructions are based on the Perc 5 / i controller, which I think you have on our system.  You have not specified the server so I just assumed that this is so.

    1. unscrew the hot spare that you just made.  Follow this link from Dell.
    http://support.Dell.com/support/eDOCS/storage/RAID/PERC5/en/UG/HTML/chapterh.htm#wp1061343

    2 follow the link for the installation of virtual disks - http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/storage/RAID/PERC5/en/UG/HTML/chapterh.htm#wp1069357

    This link has three steps to void, skip the step on "spare parts of designate hot."
    a. create the virtual disks and select virtual disk options.   -Online steps to create another disk group and add the new disk to the disk group.
    (b) designate the drives hot spares (optional). =>, YOU CAN SKIP THIS STEP
    c. initialize virtual disks. -online must do.  just do not initialize the incorrect disk.

    After the step #2 c, you should be able to access the drive in ESXi or command-line (list of nmp esxcli devices).

    And no, you cannot add this manaully until do you step #2 above which is to define the disk group, creating virtual disks and initialize the virtual disk.

    Good luck.

  • Hard drive of the PACE

    In my machine virtual definition of my drive hard indicates 48 GB, but in Vista C drive shows 19GB. I get a message that my disk space is insufficient. What should do?

    Either you resize your hard drive capacity in the past and fail to complete the required step to extend your logical file system?  When you get the properties of the C: drive in Windows the ability it must match what you have allocated initially.  If Disk Manager (start > run > diskmgmt.msc) shows you all the unallocated space, you must use a partition editor such as DiskPart, gparted to resize your file system to use all available disk capacity.  More details are available in a document like the resizing of the ramdisks with step by step Instructions

    Changing the iTunes media folder location setting affects only where new additions to your library will be stored.  To use a disk external drive to store your library complete (and assuming that you have access to the original data of the library on an old computer) you must copy the iTunes folder, by default in C:\Users\username\Music, on the external drive - structure library and its records should be like this:

  • What is the largest hard drive or the RAID supported by El Capitan and Yosemite?

    What is the largest hard drive or the RAID supported by El Capitan and Yosemite?  Also, WHERE can I find this specification?  Drobo claims that 16 TB is the largest external RAID supported and I do not.

    FYI............ 2 UPDATES since I posted this question:

    "1. Drobo has updated their FIRMWARE to allow now to 'beyond' 64 power to RAID".  Thus, their original 16 TB limit has now been replaced by their new limit of 64 to.  Also note that when you use a Drobo, Apple Mac OS does correctly shows space 'Drive' and the 'free space', if the Drobo 16TB exceeds the size; but the Application DashBoard of Drobo displays the correct numbers.  For example, my Drobo 5 d contains 5, 8 TB disks, for a total size beyond 40 to RAID (theoretically, since most of us should know, now, that the ACTUAL SIZE IS SLIGHTLY SMALLER than THE THEORETICAL SIZE).  AVAILABLE FOR USE ACTUAL SIZE IS ONLY 28.9 TB.  Thus, 40-28, 9 = 11.1 TB gets used in place for the PROTECTION of RAID beyond and the difference between REAL SPACE and SPACE THEORY.  It IS NORMAL because any RAID 5 device always uses about 1 size of hard drive for its Protection.  So, knowing this, the DeskTop icon showing 28.9 TB disk space and free space as everything that is not yet used.  However, instead, the Mac OS shows 70,37 TB disk space and free space like 68,37 TB, which are both incorrect.  Although I'd love it if Mac OS has been magically increase my disk space, in fact, these two numbers are false.  Drobo knows this, and Apple has not, in my discussions with both.  So I hope, between the two companies, that this problem can be corrected.

    2. after many hours on the phone with Apple Support, through no less than 6 people including 2 senior advisers, NONE OF THEM COULD ANSWER MY QUESTION ON CE WHO IS MAXIMUM ALLOWED HARD DRIVE or RAID SPACE AUTHORIZED BY Yosemite and El Capitan.  For me, THIS IMPORTANT FACT SHOULD SIMPLY BE LISTED IN THE OS SPECIFICATION TECHNIQUE, it's quick and easy to read on the Support Site.  But Apple is the new bureaucracy, they are, I don't see what is happening any time soon.  So, be aware that, for now, HE IS No. LIMIT ON SIZE, as an Apple adviser said; but could not confirm in writing; and, IT IS AN INCORRECT DISPLAY SIZE AND FREE SPACE, if your drive is greater than an unknown 16 + TB in size.  Note that I have 3 other RAIDs that are properly in place showing that 9 TB, TB 12 and 18 to size; but I do not know how the SIZE IS IMPORTANT to ensure that the operating system display it correctly, except for my Drobo TB 40.  So, the bottom line, somewhere between to 18 and 40 to is where he goes wrong, in its display of sizes.

    Anyone who undertakes an upgrade of the hard drive in a Libretto U100 to a SSD? This would surely greatly improve performance. What size is the hard drive in the U100 and which connector is used to connect the drive? Can anyone tell if this mod is possible?

    So, I have a machine with an SSD (Tecra M5) and it works like a charm. Unfortunately, the discs are too expensive at the moment but you can benefit from a real performance.

    Regarding your question: should be possible. You have a 1.8 inch drive "installed and there are SSDS which have almost the same form factor. Usually the U100 was delivered with MK6006GAH or MK3006GAL disks.
