Extend your virtual drive without removing stereotypes?

I've seen a lot of comments that describe how to develop one of the size of the virtual disk - by removing its snapshots.  I hope there is a way to increase my space without having to do it.  At this point, I take a snapshot after installing a logical grouping of applications.  For example, I have a snapshot of XP in its State prisine, one for VS 2005 and one for VS 2008.

I guess I could add another virtual disk, but then what?

Thanks for the help.

Craig

Have you considered using templates instead of snapshots for your purpose? Snapshots are a great way to create a milestone in time (and back), but I also found useful for deployment of standard images models. I believe that over a period of time (depending on the number of changes) virtual machines with instant will have the problem disk space usage and performance degradation. One way to fix this is to scrap & create a new virtual machine from a desired image

  • Extend your hard drive in v7

    Hello

I have workstation 7.0 and you want to use the expand Disk feature. I have a virtual disk of 60 GB, which is NOT taking any space or the file size is currently about 33 GB. I want to increase from 60 GB to 80 GB, but I want to understand how this will be repeated as I threw it off the coast of thought, this would be a quick thing that I assumed it was more a thing of config (given that the disc has not been extended to 60 GB already), but it seems to do took ages on the creation of a temporary in the case of virtual disk file. When he got like 20 GB, I cancelled the process that I was afraid that it would create a file of 80 GB and I have only 50 GB left on this disc!

    Thus, the questions are:-

-It creates a temporary file of 80 GB?

    -If so, why?

-It will have to develop the real virtual disk to 80 GB file to complete the operation? (I like to have it use only properly!)

    Thanks in advance

    See you soon

    Dan

the simplest and by far cleaner to do is to add another disk.

You can expand the vmdk you now - but it will not work if you have snapshots.

It will not grow as the partition, so you should always use third-party tools to extend the partition - as extpart.exe or gparted LinuxLiveCD.

    To answer your questions:

the disc will not extend to the new nominal size of 80 GB and develop it does not use a large temp file.

Expansion may add a few mbs only - but then you will always fix the partition.

Attention - the expansion is done in place so you must know how to manage the partition expansion before trying this.

Unfortunately, we do not know what operating system your guest is - so we cannot tell you how to do better

  • Extend your hard drive on the SCSI node given

    Hello

Looking for a script to extend the hard disk to SCSI 0:0 on a given VM according to the following logic.

    1. take a CSV entry with vmnames

    2. check each VM in the csv file if hard drive connected on SCSI node 0:0 corresponds to 15 GB.

    3. Enter the data store that have the drive and check if the free space is greater than 46 GB

    4. If the hard drive is equal to 15 GB and the data store that it hosts have more than 46 GB of free space, and then set a new size of 20 GB to the HDD. (e.g. to increase the size of 5 GB)

  • Extend C drive without any 3rd Party Software.

    Hi people,

Please read carefully before sticking a step by step tutorial.

How can I extend the space in C drive. There is lots of space available in the E drive. I'm ok to remove E: via diskmgmt.msc. If I remove the E drive it gives me no allocated space, but extend the option is grayed out in disk management console.

    Thank you best regards &,.

    Ramesh koffi

Given that the 210 GB unallocated partition is separate from your system partition (drive C :) partition active 300 MByte, you cannot extend C: drive. First of all, you need to move the 300 MB partition at the end. partition managers 3rd party can do that, but the native Disk Manager can not.

Here's a way laborious but sure to reach your goal without the help of tools 3rd party:

    1. Create an image of your installation. Store it on an external drive.
    2. Burn a CD to repair Windows System.
    3. Start the computer with this CD.
    4. Check if it can see the picture that you took in step 1.
    5. Start normally.
    6. Delete the partition of 300 MB.
    7. Extend the C: drive. Make sure you leave free 310 MB at the end of the ar.
    8. Create a partition NTFS primary & active to the end.
    9. Start the computer with the CD to repair.
    10. Select the option to repair the boot environment. He must restore the boot environment.

If the procedure above fails, then you can restore the image that you created in step 1.

  • then I just remove my hard drive without crashing the system

I just back up files on the HARD drive. There is no system files or programs on it. Can I remove and replace it with a bigger memory HARD drive, without crash the system?

Yes, you can remove the HARD drive without crashing the system by closing the PC, unplug the power supply from the socket and then remove the HARD drive.

Please note that the physical HARD disk is different from scores.

Hard physical HARD drive or disk drive is the hardware component for storage. The capacity varies.

A HARD disk cannot be used directly when it is connected to a computer, that's why storage units with file tailored to the needs of the system to create, known as partitions.

A partition can be a complete HDD (for example, if you have a physical HARD disk and you have only one partition C:\) or may be more than one partition of a physical HARD disk (for example, if you have a HARD physical disk and two or more than two partitions, such as C:\ and D:\).

Therefore, you can check for the exact physical HDD and then remove it. To do this, you can go to the computer-> storage management. Check the link for more information:

    http://www.7tutorials.com/how-manage-your-disks-using-disk-management-utility

This will show you the number of physical drives present in your PC and the partitions present in each HARD drive. So, once you confirm the HDD backup and partition (make sure that there no Windows installation, as says iFuton), you can shut down the PC, unplug the power supply and then remove the HARD drive.

[Please note that you have nothing to do in the management of the computer, except to check the partitions and hard drives (denoted as disk 0 disk 1 and so on for disks hard physical as well as the corresponding scores appear accordingly)]

  • Extend a logical drive to a virtual server

    Hello

Can anyone tell how to develop my c: drive logical virtual servers as im currently out of disk space?

Currently, this server is running on ESX 3.0.1 VC 2.5 and when the Vsever has been creating, he gave only 6 GB of disk space, because now we are in a situation whereby it is full.

I'm able to increase logical dives for virtual servers run on ESXi 3.5, but not on my ESX 3.0.1 hosts

The thoughts and thanks in advance.

    Shut down the virtual computer.

SSH to your ESX host and go to the folder where the virtual machine resides (e.g. cd /vmfs/volumes/LUNX/.vmdk

This will increase the file for a total of 30 GB hard.

then start the virtual machine on CD-ROM with partition magic, paragon partition manager or a similar tool and resize the drive c from there.

Another method to extend the c drive which also works can be found here:

  • Extend your drive

    Hello Expert VMWare:

    I'm working on Windows 2003.

I increase the size of the disk in VMWare.

should I format file system is NTFS too? and how please?

    Thanks in advance.

After having developed the disc, you will need to extend the partition into the too guest OS.

Assuming that you have only one disk D:\ C:\and in the virtual machine and the extra space on the virtual disk is adjacent to the drive D:\ you can use the diskpart utility to extend the D:\drive (partition), unless it contains for example the pagefile.

To develop the diving D:\, follow these steps:

    Start-> Run-> cmd.exe

    DiskPart
    list volumes

Select volume # (the number of the disk D:\)

    extend

    output

    output

That's all. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325590/en-us for more details.

  • Remove the disc hard virtual does not remove the vmdk files

    Hi guys

I have 2 virtual disks attached with 1 VM. I'm trying to get rid of the 2nd virtual disk. After removing successfully without error, it seems always on the data as _1.vmdk store. I presume that it must automatically disappeared from the store of data too.

I can add this disc again and start the virtual machine without problem.

In the past, I have deleted the virtual machine complete and all the associated HDs went but this is the first time I remove 1 hard drive.

    any advice?

    Thanks to the adv.

Sure! If you select, the virtual disk will be removed only from the virtual machine, but it will always be in the data store. just like what you are facing now. For your needs, you wil had to select B, where the virtual disk will be removed form the machine virtual and then permanently deleted.

Hope it will be much clearer to you now...

  • How to reinstall sound Unimodem driver without reversing the BCM 56 K Modem update Windows automatically installs?

I am using Microsoft Windows XP Professional, version 2002, Service Pack 3.

I recently reinstalled my operating system on my Dell Dimension 2400 PC and allowed for automatic updates.  Previously I did not allow updates.  I use very slow dial-up on a BCM 56 k

Voice/Fax/Modem.  My previous connection was about 26 Kbps.

During updates of Windows XP, Microsoft notified me of the update following software:

(Broadcom Corporation - Modems - BCM. v92 56 k Modem, size: 2.8 MB, Broadcom Corporation modem software update published on August 27, 2003.) only the Microsoft Update downloaded and installed on my PC.

After the installation of update BCM, my modem went much more quickly in about 40 Kbps, however, I lost the Unimodem half-duplex audio driver configuration.

After the automatic BCM update, my modem sounds is the audio connection as he had done before.

I checked and the following driver files still exist where they belong: [C:\Windows\system32\drivers\ks.sys; C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\MODEMCSA.sys; C:\Windows\system32\ksproxy.AX; C:\Windows\system32\kuser.dll], however registration is missing in browser, under 'Sound, video and game controllers' Device Manager where it was previously before the upgrade.

How can I reinstall my audio Unimodem half duplex driver without roll back my BCM upgrade?

My audio driver is not my problem.  The speaker still works in my Modem when I have dial-up.  Otherwise, the rest of my sound works fine, so I don't think I need an audio driver.  What's missing on my upgrade was my driver for unimodem half duplex, and everything remained the same after the upgrade.

Here's what's happening.   Often, I reinstall my OS together by formatting my hard drive.  After the initial installation and install the drivers for Dell provided, my modem works fine, but at a slower speed.  When I switched I hear the dial through my external speakers, which I prefer because I have restriction of hearing Audio and can hear it better amplified by the modem speaker.

When I install the update to windows BCM, it accelerates the rate of transfer of my modem, I like, but it removes my driver audio unimodem half duplex, which means I can hear is no longer my dial-up connection to know everything is going well.  The sound comes directly to my modem card, however, due to the location under my desk, my PC I can barely hear the connection is established and can not use this sound for diagnostic purposes if I can't connect.  It allows to hear the connection to remind me in case the line is disconnected or the phone company disconnects and provides their voicemail automated on how to restore our service.

I just want to still hear my modem amplified through my external speakers without losing speed BPS who provided me the upgrade.

Not yet tried to use the dell service tag for Dell drivers.  Don't know how to specify this tag, or if it would provide other drivers that I already downloaded, but will check the next.

In the meantime if anyone has a useful answer as to how I can get my external returning without sacrificing my BPS speed increase, I would like to hear it.

Thanks for all the answers everyone, even if for the time being not useful yet.

I don't think that it is half-duplex driver Unimode (even if I'm wrong).  My XP3 box has a Unimodem full-duplex audio driver "" list in the device under ' Audio, video and game controllers' Manager, and I've never had the modem sounds come through the main speakers.  [The difference between "half-duplex" and "full-duplex" is if you wait until a part expresses before the start of the other or if both parties can talk at the same time.]

Rather, apparently some - but far from everything - modem drivers have a checkbox somewhere in the modem properties dialog box (accessed through Device Manager or control panel > modems Options and) who runs the sound of the system's external speakers.

While you're in the control panel > phone and Modem Options, click on the "Advanced" tab and check the Unimodem 5 Service provider is installed.  It must have been installed by default, but if not, you might want to add (using the 'Add' button).

I suspect that your previous modem driver - which limited the speed of your connection - had the external speaker box, but that the new driver - who has more speed - connect does not work.

It is probably not very satisfactory, but you can increase the volume of the tiny speaker of the modem (a little) by using the "Additional initialization commands" box in the "Advanced tab" in the modem properties dialog box.  There are two relevant orders, the order of M (which determines when the speaker is on) and the command L (which sets the volume of the speaker):

    M0 speaker always off [that's a zero]
M1 Speaker is activated when the modem is off the hook and the carrier is not detected. [default]
M2 The speaker is always on.
M3 Speaker is activated after dialing the ends and turns off when the carrier negotiation is complete.

    L0 low volume
    L1 low volume
    L2 medium volume
    High volume of L3

Orders are entered, preceded by "AT" (without the quotes) in the box "Additional initialization commands", and there is no spaces.  Thus, for example, if you want to hear the sounds, most at very high volume (which unfortunately is usually not very high), you define L3 and M3 by entering the following text in the box:

    ATL3M3

With regard to the number of Dell's Service: on the page linked in my previous post, there is a link "enter serial number".  If you click on this link there is a box to enter your Dell service tag (and yet another link to tell you how to find if you don't know where it is).  Dell uses the "service tag" to identify your specific computer hardware configuration, because the same model Dell (e.g., Dimension 2400) can come with a variety of different hardware options.  Using the service tag is supposed to customize the material presented to you so that it is applicable to your computer.

Sorry I couldn't give you a better answer on your modem sounds.
