extended personal hotspot allows damage phone?

My store Verizon tells me people have "messed up" their iPhone using personal hotspot over short periods at a time. (Like 5-10 minutes).

Others tell me that they use it all the time. It's the truth?

This is the first I've heard of him

In addition to a generic "will damage your phone" was all the details?

  • How to disable/restrict personal hotspot without turning off the phone's data?

Web restrictions work well for iphones for my kids.  We use the circle of disney at home, with the circle of disney GO! product to provide a filtering not at home.  (we also use restrictions to disable Safari and don't allow apps, we know to be installed, otherwise, the app store is disabled.)  We are quite draconian parents.  But it's not important right now)

Turning on personal hotspot on a phone with the data actually bypasses * everything *.  If kid 2 has a phone with no data, but a browser.  Child 1 to an iphone that has locked the web browser of the restrictions on, and is allowed to have data that it can play Pokémon Go, read some wiki apps, and use the iMessage.

Child 1 turn on personal hotspot, kid2 connects sound phone (or laptop or other) through it and volia! Unfettered internet access.

IF, however, there is a way to disable the personal hotspot, the question is carefully disappears.  Yes, you can still play Pokémon Go and iMessage is always turned on, but you can't be sneaky.  (please, no comments about how I should trust my children.  I do, but I was once a male 14yo.  full stop.)

I could disable data completely, but I want to leave some stuff.

Web restrictions and the browser crashes are a very good start.  And I would have thought that cell parameters (with the personal hotspot OFF) lock would prevent changes.  Nope.  Allows still flipping the switch independently.

Am I missing something stupid obvious?  (certainly wouldn't be the first time.)

    Cheers!

Your cell carrier allows personal hotspot for each phone number. Ask them to turn it off for the iPhone you want to not use it.

  • Why the Personal Hotspot from my mobile phone appears in my list of list wifi networks if it is disabled on my phone?

Why the Personal Hotspot from my mobile phone appears in my list of list wifi networks if it is disabled on my phone?

On my iMac, there is an icon for a list of available to join Wifi networks.

One of these Wifi networks is my iPhone Personal Hotspot.

However when I look at my setup on my iPhone Personal Hotspot is off.

I tried to join the Hotspot to my iMac and put.

This is part of a feature called Hotspot instantly. It allows you to connect to your personal hotspot without your password or activate the hotspot on your phone. Don't worry, this does not allow other people to access your hotspot, only devices using the same identifier Apple will see your hotspot. This feature is not using any extra battery life when you're not connected to it. You can learn more about instant Hotspot here: OS X Yosemite: connect to the Internet using instant Hotspot

  • X 230 bluetooth does not work - cannot use the cell phone as personal hotspot

I try to use the bluetooth in my X 230 to connect my laptop with my cell phone. I want to be able to use my cell phone as a personal hotspot, where I am in an area where no WiFi secure. I would have thought that it would be a standard feature in a laptop that is presented as a business device, but apparently this is not the case.

I installed the bluetooth driver and the updated system, as suggested by joelle...

    and

    http://support.Lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?docid=DS012808

... but it's still not working for me. I am now able to connect my mobile phone to my X 230, but instead of allowing me to access the internet via bluetooth, a dialog box appears that allowed me to play songs that are on my cell phone using the laptop speakers.

I am disappointed that bluetooth driver has not come pre-installed on the 230 x, and I'm disappointed that I'm not able to use my cell phone as a personal hotspot for my x 230.

I solved the problem myself by following the instructions on this page.

    http://www.kevintaber.com/2012/05/25/iPhone-personal-hotspot-via-Bluetooth-tethering-to-Windows-7/

In Windows 7, go to the control panel > hardware and sound > devices and printers
Then right-click on the bluetooth device (in this case, an iPhone) and choose Properties
Deselect all EXCEPT Personal Area Network Access Point

  • Personal hotspot USB modem Windows 10 & iPhone 6 s more does not.

    Hello

I'm unable to use my personal Hotspot via USB with my iPhone 6 s more and Windows 10.

Personal hotspot works via wifi, iTunes can recognize my device and windows Explorer.

When I turn on personal hotspot via the usb port on my phone though, Windows network is not picking it up.

There is no new detected internet connection.

I think that it is a problem of driver under windows 10.

No matter who ate any ideas on how to fix it?

I've done several reboots of both phone and PC, plus an uninstall, reboot, reinstall iTunes

My personal hotspot stopped working completely immediately after the 9.3.1 update on my 6s +. It does not seem to have any correlation with Wondows 10. I use my hotspot everyday for businesses, and it worked fine (though often wayward) on Windows 10 with iOS 9.3. Often it took to turn the hotspot on / off several times before that Windows recognize it. I get nothing now when I allow it. No blue banner high and certainly no link available with Windows 10. It seems that Apple has missed something again. I was curious, able to get yours you worked?

  • Xperia Z3 Personal Hotspot disorder

    Hi all

I am currently on three mobile and tried to use the personal hotspot and tethering usb but the connection always seems to fall.

    What happens is:

-internet on my phone could work very well

-J' had active usb modem/hotspot and connect with the pc/laptop

-pc/laptop would find the connection and show that its connected to the internet

-at this point I would lose internet on my phone and your pc completely. Phone will always be the signal display and H + data send and receive as usual, but internet would not work.

-I have to turn off the modem function, and then restart the mobile data to the internet to be brought back online.

I swapped the sim card with my old phone of Lumia and tethering worked very well which means that it is something to do with my phone.

    Thanks for any help.

Check with 3 it has been activated, especially.with yesterday being a day3 new year can be slow at times. Them two days to allow only one sim to my nano. Like my other micro sim

  • Why the my position can be determined using Personal Hotspot?

I use Personal Hotspot to watch the NFL Sunday Ticket on my laptop. He thinks that my position is in the same place my call sign is located. Therefore, I am unable to watch the same games if I'm physically across the country.

Personal Hotspot is a function provided by your operator to share your cellular data. Location services, what looks like an app where you are right now.

On your laptop, NFL Sunday has no idea where you are now, only your phone number. If you have run an NFL app today on your phone, and he asked location services where you are right now, maybe it's different.

  • Not ios10 blocking VPN PPTP connections through personal hotspot?

I use an iPhone 6 + and was upgraded to ios10, two days ago.

While I don't have a configuration of the VPN connection on the phone, I connect my computer laptop personal hotspot of the iPhone to use internet and sometimes connect to a VPN.

Before my upgrade to ios10, my laptop could still connect to the VPN while connected to the hotspot from my iPhone.

After that I updated to ios10, my laptop does not connect to the VPN I connect to.

I see reports that Apple has abandoned the use of the connection for PPTP VPN connections on ios10.

But most of the people having problems seem to be people who connect to their phones directly to the VPN in the iPhone settings.

In my case, my phone is just acting under the guidance of the internet on my laptop but it seems that it does not obstruct my laptop to connect to a pptp even connection if that should have no impact on the phone itself.

I went down to ios9 and my laptop can connect again to the VPN.

But now my Apple Watch does not work with my phone because I improved the watch to os3.

Any ideas if there is a work around for the connection for pptp connections using the hotspon on ios10?

Apple mentions alternative - Prepare for the removal of PPTP VPN before you upgraded to iOS 10 and macOS Sierra - Apple Support

  • Is the iPad limit data usage via personal hotspot from my iPhone?

I have unlimited use of data in the Netherlands, but in France the use of the data is limited. I don't want my iPad to consume all the data because of unwanted downloads.

The iPad is aware that he uses a personal hotspot from my iPhone. It modifies the behavior of data then use?

Using an iPad with an iPhone 5s mini3. Both running latest version of the OS.

No, the iPad doesn't "know" that you have a limit on your data. It does not change the behavior of use based on the type of connection (other that it will not download files more 100 mg on cell phone).

  • I'm unable to access iCloud parameters, that the icon is there, but when I click it, it does nothing. Also recently I noticed that my personal hotspot option is no longer available. Nobody knows what can happen?

I can't access iCloud parameters. The icon is there, but when I click on it nothing happens. I went into general settings to ensure that no restrictions were on. Also recently noticed that the personal hotspot service is no longer available on my phone. How something like that just disappears?

For Personal Hotspot, you must ask your cellular provider.

  • Impossible to find Personal Hotspot

I use Air of Ipad 2 Wifi + cell. When I put the sim in the device, I turn on cellular data and I see APN setting but I can not find Personal Hotspot. I want to share my internet data to ipad... but help me, what is this problem?

Personal Hotspot is dependent on the carrier. your carrier must support, and your data plan must allow it. If you don't find the Personal Hotspot option in settings, contact your provider and ensure that they allow him, and takes care of your plan.

  • Availability of Personal Hotspot/modem

    Hello

I have an unlocked iPhone 6 s more on Rogers in the Canada. I have the ability to use personal Hotspot, but I was wondering if Personal Hotspot is a limitation put on by the carrier or not. If I had to switch to a different provider, if I lose Personal Hotspot?

    Thank you!

You're absolutely right - it is carrier mediated - given that the data used by the PH comes, or are provided by the carrier

When I had a brief stint at Sprint - PH was not functional in my phone

When I went to T Mo with a plan that includes PH - it appears

You can check if your new service provider offers this feature on iPhone

  • Personal Hotspot won't work, iPhone 6 Plus

I have a 6 Plus, AT & T iPhone is my carrier, Personal Hotspot enabled, latest iOS installed. The Personal Hotspot will not work unless I have usb connect the iPhone to my MacBook Pro, go to 'Network' and choose the iPhone as my network. At that time, it becomes recognizable to all other devices which can then connect to it. If I disconnect the iPhone and try to use it again as a hotspot, I must repeat the foregoing. I reset the network settings and all the other suggestions related to this topic. Please notify.

Have you tried to click on the bluetooth icon in the top right menu bar choose your phone from the list and then click on connect to the network?

Start by turning on Personal Hotspot on the iPhone.

Then on the Apple Tv, go to settings-> General-> network and find the name of your iPhone it.

Select to connect to it and provide the password defined for it in Personal Hotspot.

If you use Personal Hotspot, you won't be able to content AirPlay of the phone to the Apple Tv. Instead Apple Tv will use the phone's internet connection to stream multimedia content directly.
