External DVD USB question

Small question.

Currently, using Parallels with Win7 virtual machine.  I plug in my external dvd player via the USB port to and everything is fine, but it shows in my Win7 virtual machine as a network drive with a different drive letter every time.  The software, I'm trying to run requires the CD in the drive, even where it has been installed, so it's obviously a problem.  I can't afford to uninstall and reinstall the software every time that I want to use.

Not usb drives mount merge properly with the same drive letter every time?  Or at least to mount it as a drive off-grid that will allow me to change the drive letter in disk management if need be?

I would like to know before you buy, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you people.

Tom

Using VMware Fusion Professional 5.0.3 on an early 2013 MacBook Pro with the retina (15.4/2.8/16GB/768GB FLASH) I just tested, several times, the SuperDrive Apple USB to the Virtual Machine directly as a USB device connect/disconnect and whenever he maintained initially assigned drive letter.  It was also shown as a normal DVD - RW drive and not as a network drive.

  • X 220 power Supply & external DVD RW Question

    Hi all

I decided to replace my old laptop, a ten year old IBM Thinkpad X 22 (Yes, really, do not die these things, they just keep on going!) and replace it with a Lenovo Thinkpad X 220, I just bought on eBay second hand.

I know in ten years apart accessories I have for X 22 do not work on the X 220, but before I order a second power supply I was wondering if this is also the same with the power supply? I don't know how many feeds change mobile to mobile and thought that I could just check here before ordering a second I can go to work.

I am antipating issues software installation without a DVD player, so I'll probably buy an external one - just double once again looking for peace of mind, but I guess I can boot from it and also watch DVD movies without any problem?

Thank you in advance and my apologies for the fundamental nature of those questions ;-)

    Stu.

There are essentially two types of adapters CA / CC. The old type that uses your X 22 is 16Vcc. The new type that uses your X 220 out of 20 v DC. They are not interchangeable, physically or electrically. There are several subtypes in the range of adapter according to the output power of 65W, 90W 20VDC, etc.

The 65W adapter will supply the X 220. It is preferable to travel because it is smaller and lighter than the 90W. However on some systems, including the 220 X when using CPU can slow down in order to keep the power (*). You know the nominal power of the adapter supplied with your X 220? If you plan to use the X 220 especially when it's plugged in, then I suggest the 90W unit is preferable.

In regards to the DVD player I don't see why you couldn't start to leave or read DVDs. I can do both with an external USB DVD drive on my X61s.

Hi, this external DVD drive has 2 USB connectors (data and power) and no power supply.
    The dynadock has alternating current.
When I connect the DVD directly to 2 USB ports on the laptop, it works.
When I connect an external hard drive to the Dynadock USB powered it works
When I connect the Iomega DVD drive to the dynadock, it doesn't work and I get an error message "power surge on hub port."

I tested a second dynadock and DVD player (same model) and the same problem occurs.
I also tested all of the USB ports on the dynadock, front and rear.
I looked online for limitations on the dynadock, but found none.

I look forward to any constructive suggestions or information.

    Hello micjam,

the Iomega DVD drive also not functioning, it is linked to the dynadock?

  • Boot camp with external dvd drive

How it is possible to install Windows 7 on my old MacBook Pro Mid 2009 using an external DVD drive?

Because my SuperDrive drive is broken.

Yes, there is a way, I remember that when I swapped my Superdrive for a disk hard while my old Macbook could not start Windows USB.

you need vmware Fusion and refined installed

It's a little tricky because not apple USB drives do not work when booting the operating system, but it works if you read carefully. basically the process starts as usual, put the DVD in the DVD USB drive and start to Boot Camp, let to create the BootCamp partition, instead of restarting create a VM with the mapping of physical disk, begin the installation, restart Windows and finish using DVD USB.

Here is the guide, a bit outdated but might help. Be sure just to what disk you format in the virtual machine, because you are working with the physical disk where you have installed OS X:

  • Pavilion 2 detachable x: external DVD problems

    Hello

I bought a Samsung SE208 external DVDRW use the USB port on my full size tablet. It was purchased primarily for watching DVDs while working there and copy my music in iTunes.

I plugged the instructions and immediately stuck a CD that has been copied to my library without problem. So, I got a DVD to watch (flushed away if anyones interested) and its here that the problems seem to start.

With a DVD in the drive, you can see this whirring away and my Tablet produces occasional beep noise. It does not display messages and nothing on the screen indicates that the DVD will play. In Device Manager the DVD player is not. It shows as installed correctly when I managed to catch him and look in the properties, but the driver is for a CD-ROM drive only. I tried it on my laptop (6 years) and it works perfectly. The laptop is running Windows 10 too, but shows a bunch of different drivers in Device Manager.

Ideas, suggestions, new uses for it would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Rob.

I just tried the drive again and it won't play CD's. Maybe it'll work as a lead only which is useless, or ornament for me. Any suggestions?

    Hi PeerOne.

Thanks for the reply but I have VLC and it still doesn't work.

It turns out that the SE208 is announced as compatible on a certain website large companies USB3.0 is not something of the sort. With a result pretty obvious.

Needless to say that the offending article was returned and the search for an external DVD drive VFM who will work with USB 3.0 continues.

  • Satellite A660 - do not find external DVD drive

Hey guys. Newbie displaying in total despair of and needing help! I posted in other forums without success. I bought a Samsung SH-D162D DVD drive in a USB enclosure to connect to my Satellite A660 via USB.

I can't get Windows 7 to find! When I plug in the USB cable, the ball comes up to say that it has been installed (sometimes), I can see it on for about 1 or 2 minutes then he falls. It is not listed in my hardware or anything. Its not found in disk management or my devices, so it is not a case to change the drive letter - I can't find the drive to change. I also tried to find upper and lower settings in regedit. Could not find them so couldn't remove them as suggested in other posts of this nature.

It is set to master, the IDE connector and power connectors are very good. Its got to be a cause of problem of Windows 7 it comes very briefly. In the minute or 2 sound, I can't do anything with it. It crashes right although it will open and close. I've google it and can't find anything. Mainly of registry issues, but they did not help.

Ive also connected to another laptop with XP and had no problems so I know the DVD Rom works very well and all the cables are ok. Ive tried all 4 USB ports on my laptop and also disabled all the parameters of energy. All with no luck. And I also all Windows 7 update.

This is exactly what happens to the power out of the Cabinet.

    1. I connect the USB cord then turn on the enclosure.
2 - I quickly click Start, and I can see the DVD Rom E player beside my computer laptop dvd rom.
3 - the green bar above starts to fill to the top, from left to right and gets to half way then suddenly disappears icon of DVD Rom and makes the green bar.
    4. He then flashes up in computers laptops DVD Rom icon with a player of Local E drive, but only for a fraction of a second.
    5. sometimes a balloon comes up saying peripheral installation, then the installed device successfully... but not every time.

And that's all. I'm at a total loss and the cant work, so any help is really appreciated!

    Hi Smee,

So if you have already connected the external hard drive on another computer, and it worked correctly, it seems to be a driver or compatibility between your external DVD drive problem and and your Satellite A660

It will be connected to the port USB then you tried to remove all the USB ports on the Device Manager? After that, you must restart your computer and the USB ports will be recognized automatically from the Device Manager. In addition, I would also try updating the chipset driver. New version, which you can download on the official website of Toshiba:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

Have you also tested other devices on your A660 if they work properly?

  • Portege R700 - external DVD Player compatibility

I have a problem with a Samsung external super-multi drive 2 year with my new Portege R700-1F3, which does not come with a DVD player. The USB powered Samsung dvd player works fine with all other computers that I have access to:
    * MacBook with OS X 10.5
    * Samsung NP - X 360 laptop computer with Windows XP 32-bit
    * Dell Inspiron Zino HD computer desktop with Windows 7 64 bit

    The symptoms are:
    * When the dvd player is plugged in Portege, the green light on the dvd player goes on and out.
    * This happens in the BIOS, and once that Windows 7 32-bit support.
    * In Control Panel Windows 7 devices & printers, the DVD alternately appear & disappear constantly.
    * When it appears, it shows up as "USB storage device" with a yellow! warning icon.

I tried all 3 USB ports. The power cable is plugged Portege. I tried the turn of the digital signature when starting upwards. The external dvd came free with my old laptop from Samsung and is the model AA-ES0N09B.

Any suggestion that this is a hardware or software problem and how to fix it?

    Thank you
    Lola

    Hi Lola,.

Have you tried other USB devices on your Portege R700 if they work properly?

If peripheral USB do some problems I would try to remove the USB ports from the Device Manager (right click > uninstall) and restart your computer. After that, the USB ports will be recognized again and you are able to use them.

If it doesn t help I would try a driver update from the official website of Toshiba chipset. http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/

  • Connect the external DVD player to Satelite Z930

    Hello world

I recently bought a Toshiba external dvd drive, which officially supports win7 and Vista (no mention of 8) of the brand.

The external dvd drive is model PA3834A-1DV2 aka Portable SuperMulti Drive

When I connect this drive with one or two USB connections (SuperMulti drive has 2 USB connections), there's enough power to the drive eject and spin, but the computer does not display the drive in my computer. It is displayed in Device Manager with a yellow exclamation however.

Y at - it no formal or informal word there is a way for this device works with Windows 8 on the Z930?

My apologies if I should have posted this in a different thread.

Which is really strange. I have the external BD drive and it is automatically recognized by Win7 or Win8.
You use original Win8 preinstalled that you got with your laptop or you install on your own?

    Hello

I am trying to recreate the image on my Satellite M70 181 using the product recovery DVD.
Should be easy, you might say, but the internal DVD player no longer works.
I don't want to buy a new laptop this quite old, so I borrowed an external USB drive.

After that I inserted the product recovery DVD the notebook starts from there, autoexec creates a RAMDRIVE and copy the files from there.
"Recover.bat", the external DVD player analysis must be accessible via the X: drive. However, there are has some missing files on the DVD to mount the external DVD drive: there is no file % RAMDRV%\TOOLS\USB20. DEV, nor a file % RAMDRV%\TOOLS\USB11. DEV.
Failure of the attempt to mount the external hard drive, recover.bat starts a loop saying 'Please insert Recovery CD #1!'.

What can I do now? Help, please.

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

As much I know this model of laptop can't boot from USB CD/DVD drive and CD recovery.
You can boot from the USB FDD drive and a bootable floppy drive but I doubt that this is not possible with a Toshiba restore disk.

I think that you could use this recovery disk as part of internal ODD.

Start your laptop by using the MS-DOS boot disk
Load the MS-DOS driver for external DVD drive to access
Boot the CD of facilities here in the hope that it will market

    Hello

    > * 1 *-I want to use in the car for playing DVDs in the back seat. Can I use the Toshiba external dvd drive?

No, you can't attach an external CD/DVD drive to the AC100.
The USB port supports the external USB HDD (FAT12/16/32/exFAT) and a memory flash USB (FAT12/16/32/exFAT) for copying data.

    > * 2-* is there a car charging/adapter plug or anything like that?
Yes, google for cigarette lighter Thrive AT100. Otherwise, you can order part comatibel of ASP in your country.

    > * 3 *-my stereo bluetooth, USB and ipod has access to-what options there are to store & playing music on the Tablet via these

Take a look in the Android market and search of HiFi Android app.
But as far as I know if you want to stream music from tablet to sorrows, both must be connected to the same network.

    > * 4 *-wifi is possible? I already connected it to a wireless modem; would need a modem separated in the car?
    AT100 supports LAN wireless
