External hard drive is compatible with Windows 7

I have an older SimpleTech external hard drive.  It does not connect with my most recent computer with Windows 7 on this matter. The error I get, is that there are no drivers.  I need TO get all the items on that hard drive... photos of family for the last 10 years... How can I get it connects so that I can just remove the hard drive and move it to my computer?  Help, please!

VH

If it is a USB (USB true) it should work on xp, vista and win 7 because they are retro-compatible.

If you can not easily find someone with XP and your hardware supports you could run a virtual machine and load XP on it.

It could also be visible on the Open source OS's like Linux.

  • This external hard drive is compatible with my iMac 7.1?

Hello, I intend to update my OS X, but first need to buy a hard drive to back up my files.  I found this one, but I don't know if it is compatible with my iMac mid 2007.  Can you please advise me if it will work?

The external hard drive is this:

    1 to, G-Drive Mobile 5400 RPM, USB 2.0, 2.5 in.

    These are my computer specs:

    Model name: iMac

    Model identifier: iMac7, 1

Processor name: Intel Core 2 Duo

    CPU speed: 2 GHz

    Number of processors: 1

    Total number of cores: 2

    L2 Cache: 4 MB

    Memory: 1 GB

    Bus speed: 800 MHz

    Boot ROM version: IM71.007A.B03

Version of the SCM (System): 1.20f4

    Serial number (System): W8 * X 85

    Material UUID: *.

I know that USB 2.0 will be very slow, but I don't mind.  I've only used 1.4 GB of space on my computer anyway.

    Thank you

In General, external hard drives are universal, so they will work with any computer.  The particular drive you say should work perfectly.

You don't even have to format it because it comes pre-format for right of Mac Out of the box.

Given that your Mac has only USB ports 2.0, he "does get a USB drive 3.0" Also the read speed of the internal hard disk will be always much slower than the speed of the USB 2 bus, so no need to have extra speed on the connection, you will not be able to use.  You probably won't notice it in any way.

  • 250 GB USB external hard drive is compatible with Mac OS x on an iBook G4?

    Hello

I just bought a Toshiba 250 GB Usb external hard drive because the seller advised me telling me that it works in my iBook G4 Mac OSX computer.

I made it and I see it on my desktop with a folder called System Volume Information and 2.32 GB available.

I tried to copy a file and I got a message saying that the disk is not editable.

Where can I find the instructions to initialize if it's compatible?

    Thanks in advance,

    Joan

    Hello

I'm not sure on this subject, but maybe you have to format it.
Are there issues listed in the Device Manager?

    Good bye

  • Hitachi external hard drive not detected on Windows 7. Disk Management displays "No Media"

OP: New computer with Windows 7 cannot display files on external hard drive Hitachi

My Hitachi hard drive is compatible with Windows 7.  This hard drive was working properly with my old computer using Windows XP.  I can see the device in the Device Manager, but I can't view the files.  In disk management, the drive is listed at the bottom of the screen, but said "No Media", however there is almost 50 GB of data stored.

The hard drive shows in the list of devices and printers when I opened that folder, but does not appear in the list of hard drives on my computer.

I still don't understand what happened, but I've decided how to fix it.

After trying my hard drive locked on 4 computers with Windows installed (two with Windows 7) and two with XP and having no success, I decided to plug it into a computer using a Linyx OS (Obuntu).  The computer recognizes my hard drive and open.  Then I was able to use the Windows System.  I managed to freeze hard drive again and he cured the same way.  Maybe this will help also, if you have access to a computer with this operating system.  Maybe a mac would also work.

More external ODD will work just make sure it's an external power source. This allows not to take a lot of power to the unit.

  • What HARD drive is compatible with HP 120W Advanced Docking station (NZ222AA)

Please tell me that HARD drive is compatible with the Bay of integrated upgrade HP 120W Advanced Docking Station (NZ222AA) SATA... I can't find the info nor in the manual the user, or from the HP site. Thanks in advance.

    Hello

    Please check this:

While neither station can be upgraded, both have a Bay of upgrade which allows you to install an additional hard drive. If you choose to install the additional drive, you will add additional gigabytes to your current mobile storage space. However, if you choose to take advantage of the extra space, a standard hard drive does not fit into the Bay to upgrade. HP offers a hard drive 500 GB, specially designed for the upgrade on the 120W and the 230W Bay; You must order the HDD upgraded through HP.

  • Installed new hard drive on laptop with Windows 7 can install Windows XP on external hard drive and plug it into USB?

Original title: Win7 Pro + HD Ext different OS
I just installed a new hard drive in my laptop with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.
Would it not be possible to install WIn XP or Win 98 + older software (Win 98 or XP) on an external hard drive, then plug it into USB, laptop, in order to run old programs of 16-32 bit?

It would be best to run Windows 98 or XP in a Virtual Machine, if you need to run older programs.

You can use a free software such as Oracle VirtualBox or VMware Player:

  • Maxtor One Touch 4 Mini external hard drive not partitioned by Windows 7 PC

I have a Maxtor One Touch 4 Mini external hard drive that has been formatted to originally a Windows XP computer. I have a new computer that uses the Windows 7 operating system. The drive hard Maxtor are not accessible by the new computer. Although the new computer reconizes the device by its name, the Maxtor Manager window displays the score as 'unknown '. Maxtor/Seagate technical support said that I need to move the files from the old external hard drive Maxtor on a new Seagate, external drive, using a Windows XP computer. Is there another easier way?

    Hello

The Windows 7 Compatibility Center shows that the Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini is compatible with Windows 7.
However, given that it is a product of the 3 part, you go by what the Seagate support said.
You can send this link on the OneTouch 4:

  • I can't get my new WD external hard drive to work with Time Machine.

My Seagate 1 TB external hard drive, connected to my Airport Extreme, use the USB port, was completed (it stores up to 3 1 iMac and MBP), so I bought a Western Digital 2 TB hard drive to replace it. I formatted correctly, connected to my MBP, then connected to the Airport Extreme. When I opened the time Machine, it didn't appear. By selecting "Set up the new TimeCapsule" open Airport utility. By clicking on the router button gave me change. By clicking on the "Record" button showed my new hard drive. The "setup" button is grayed out, unless I unchecked and double-checked all of the options. He warned me that I would be offline for a while, but it did nothing; My wife MBP and MBP my son not a never lose their connection to the internet, and I lose mine, either.

My Mac guy, who never met a problem he couldn't fix it, is puzzled. So I am. We tried all the usual ideas, restart my MBP, restart the Airport Extreme, reformat the external hard drive, with different numbers of partitions (and Yes, I chose the GUID), but we can not simply Time Machine to connect with the hard drive. It is a Western Digital My Passport Ultra. This external hard drive is not compatible with Time Machine?

What version is your AE? Backup is supported only on the sector of Tower model.

You are self feeding Ultra Passport? It really must be external powered... or plugged into a powered hub.

My passport readers have been consistent in the past... but sometimes strange things... That is, they can change the USB chip without warning, resulting in questions. The USB hub can help.

There is also something... Plug the USB key into one of your computers and start backup TM on this... proceed very long... but we need to start... Cancel backup... and then plug it into AE and see what happens.

  • Change hard drive on R60 with Windows XP Prof

How can I replace this drive with a bigger without losing my recovery XP Prof and the Lenovo software?

Can I solve this problem with an image of the old hard drive?

Software whar can I for it?

Please read this and held is very appreciated

    All CU

first mark a set of recovery media to start, program, thinkvantage, create recovery media. After having done this, then make a backup of your system using rescue and recovery software and then burn the backup to DVD or store it on an external hard drive.

Now install the new hard drive, then restore the partition recovery and BONE using disks 3 recovery media that you have created, insert disk boot disks 1 and follow invites it. After you install the new copy of the OS with the drivers, you can recharge your backup from rescue and recovery backups that you burn to DVD or stored on the external hard drive.

  • Hitachi Lifestudio external hard drive not recognized on Windows Vitsa... why?

I have a hitachi lifestudio external hard drive and it works great 50% of the time... the other 50%, I fight because it not being recognized on my computer or laptop (both vista).  I plugged it to my computer now and it will only recognize the player but is not the one with my files that I need.  I have two USB cords connected and it was working fine yesterday!  Now all of a sudden it won't work at all.  I got and rehooked many times now and still nothing.  Other USB ports are filled with our wireless mouse and others.  Is there a way to force vista to recognize something?

    Hello

    ·          Were there any changes made to your computer before this problem?

Step 1: Try running Microsoft fix it in the following article:

    Reference: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/hardware_device_problems

    See also: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Tips-for-solving-problems-with-USB-devices

Step 2: Check if the external drive is getting detected in disk management.

If the hard drive is recognized in disk management and if there is no letter assigned drive, I suggest you make a right click on the drive and assign a drive letter and check to see if it helps:

  • External hard drive always autoplays when Windows comes out of sleep

I put a new computer together and hava an annoying problem.  I have a Seagate external hard drive plugged into the usb port 3.  Every time Windows comes out of sleep, AutoPlay starts for the reader.  I used before this drive on my old build with this issue, although it was plugged into a usb port 2.

    I am currently using Windows 7 Professional x 64.

It's just an annoyance, not a disaster!

    Thank you.

Whenever the computer goes to sleep, the USB ports and all internal devices such as Bluetooth are turned off. When the computer comes out of standby mode, these devices are switched on. Once it is done with the USB ports, the connected device is also recognized as a new device and then autoplay starts. It is therefore normal.

If you don't want autoplay, will start-> type autoplay--> press on enter. Remove the tick of Use AutoPlay for all media and devices. Click Save.
  • External hard drive not detected in Windows 8

I just bought a Dell XPS 13, running Windows 8.

I have two external hard drives from LaCie.

Disc 1 is used with a Lenovo X120e running Windows 7.

Disc 2 has two partitions, exclusively for my Macbook Pro running 10.9.5 and the other smaller partition is used to move files between Lenovo and the Macbook.

When I connect Drive 1 to the XPS 13, nothing happens. It is not turn nor it appears in Device Manager.

If I turn it on to Lenovo, it works very well.

When I connect Drive 2 to the XPS 13 (to the same USB port and using the same cable), he turns and is detected.

If the port is working, pilots work, cable works and Drive 1 works when connected to the Lenovo running Windows 7.

How can I get the XPS 13 to recognize Drive 1? There must be a way to do this without formatting again.

    Thank you.

The drive is visible in the BIOS or the mode without failure on the XPS 13?

You can also try to paginate the connection of the power supply in the drive that works.
