  I see that many people have problems with Windows 7 does not recognise external drives. I have a SimpleTech Pro 1 t external drive used to be recognized with Windows 7, but is no longer recognized.   OP: New computer with Windows 7 cannot display files on external hard drive Hitachi

  My Hitachi hard drive is compatible with Windows 7.  This hard drive was working properly with my old computer using Windows XP.  I can see the device in the Device Manager, but I can't view the files.  In disk management, the drive is listed at the bottom of the screen, but said "No Media", however there is almost 50 GB of data stored.

  The hard drive shows in the list of devices and printers when I opened that folder, but does not appear in the list of hard drives on my computer.

  I still don't understand what happened, but I've decided how to fix it.

  After trying my hard drive locked on 4 computers with Windows installed (two with Windows 7) and two with XP and having no success, I decided to plug it into a computer using a Linyx OS (Obuntu).  The computer recognizes my hard drive and open.  Then I was able to use the Windows System.  I managed to freeze hard drive again and he cured the same way.  Maybe this will help also, if you have access to a computer with this operating system.  Maybe a mac would also work.

  I recently bought a Windows 8 RT tablet.   2. type: diskpart

  3. at the DISKPART prompt, type: list of volume
