External hardrive is not recognized

Separated from this thread.

I have an external hard drive that is not recognized when I try to use from any computer. I ran the disk management and it's RAW. I tried to format it in NTFS but I get an error-drive is in the process of use/cannot format the drive.

I also tried the instructions above, but I got the same error in the control box. This is what it looks like:

DISKPART > list volume

Volume # Ltr Label Fs Type size status Info
----------  ---  -----------  -----  ----------  -------  ---------  --------
Volume 0 E DVD-ROM 0 B no media
Volume 1 C Windows NTFS Partition Boot healthy 911 GB
Volume 2 SYSTEM FAT32 Partition 360 MB healthy system
Hidden 3 WINRE NTFS Partition 849 MB Healthy volume
IM 4 d hidden healthy Partition 18 GB NTFS volume recovery
Volume 5 F Partition BRUTE 298 GB healthy

DISKPART > select volume 5

Volume 5 is the selected volume.

DISKPART > format fs = ntfs quick

Virtual Disk Service error:

The selected volume or partition is in use.
To continue the operation, use the OVERRIDE parameter.

How can I fix it?

Hello

Respect your concerns, you can stop the player that is currently running or in use. Here's how:

  1. Press Windows key + Rand type diskmgmt.msc.
  2. Click OK and it will show you the computer management window.
  3. Under storage, click disk management.
  4. Right click on the volume that you want to delete, select Delete Volume.
  5. At the confirmation prompt, click Yes . This will leave the partition as unallocated.

Then you can go ahead and re format the hard drive.

Let us know how it goes.

Kind regards.

I can't get my external hardrive WD to be recognized by Windows 7.  The hard drive is a model more old, 500 GB.  Model number WD500H1U-00.  I tried to go to the website of WD driver and can't find a driver that works with Windows 7.  Whenever I click on my model number, it indicates that the drive works with Windows 2000 and XP.  Is this OK or I do something wrong when I try to download the driver?  Any help in this matter would be a great help.  Thank you very much.

It requires no driver, it's a USB 2 key if its not work when you plug it in win7 should automatically detect it.

The drive works OK on another PC?

  • External hard drive not recognized

It seems as if my Macbook Superdrive is not recognized by both my MacBook after upgrade to El Capitan.  I took my external drive to the Apple iStore, it has been tested and I've been told that it does not.  Then, I bought a new disc (R1999.30 - a lot of money!), and after connecting to my two computers today, I realized that this new album is also "does not work".  After each update, something that has worked well in the past, does not work. Has anyone found a solution yet?

How you try to burn the disks?

You get an error message? So then what?

  • external USB drives not recognized under xp pro 64

I bought a genuine version of XP Pro 64 to load on my computer and because Win 7 froze with drivers nVidia graphics.

When I plug a recently bought Seagate Goflex or one of the new Western Digital external hard drives, they are not recognized.

They do not show on my computer or disk management at all.

They appear in Device Manager with a yellow question mark big under 'other devices '.

I right click on the hard drive in the Device Manager to update the driver, and it always fails.

Before ask you, these USB drives work perfectly on my other XP Home 32 System. The cables are good.

I tried different ports, front and rear... no good.

My system XP 64 Prp is updated w/Windows update and software chip to the motherboard.

Strangely, I have a hard drive WD Passport USB 500 Gb one-year-old that works fine on XP 64 system.

WD technicians say that I am the only one with this problem. PlugNPlay needs no driver, what do say.

I also have IDE/SATA USB cable w / the power cable, I use to connect my old internal drives.

Works fine on the XP Home 32, but I get the error "USB to ATA/ATAPI Bridge" in the device with the 64-bit System Manager.

Yes these devices are all "turned on."

Something is missing on the XP 64 system.

    Help is very appreciated.

Been looking for a solution for a week now.

    Thank you.

  • WD external hard drive not recognized

I have a Western Digital MyBook external hard drives.  I bring it with me to different places and one day when I got home I plugged it in my PC and nothing happened.  The HD is no longer recognized.

I checked the Device Manager and it does not appear there or it appears in the list of devices for the assignment of drive letters so is not the problem.  While he was just USB I could see that the computer has been grateful something was plugged to the USB port, but that's all.  I removed the HD from its holster and hung in to my computer and always directly nothing if it is not a cable problem or power.

I went to the site of WD and tried their repair program, but wasn't able to only detect the drive either so no luck there.

I also tried to remove the UpperLimit registry or whatever it's called but there no LowerLimit registry to remove.  I've restarted and nothing changed.

I'm really of ideas here, and at this point, I want to at least be able to use it again even if it means a complete reformat even if I got a lot of things about what I lose enough.

You say that is not recognized by your computer.

And their repair program cannot be found.

Have you tried to plug it into another computer and see if it is approved by it?

If it isn't, it is probably the player that has the problem.

    See you soon.

  • 3 50 PX1394U external hard drive not recognized

I recently bought the external hard drive, Toshiba PX1394U 3 50. I followed the instructions for the installation and everything went as planned either he found material etc. and returned with the message of successful installation.

However, when I go in my computer that there should be an icon for the external hard drive and it does not exist.

I saw the thread, recommending using REGEN, but this has no effect on the problem - the icon still does not appear in my computer.

I use a laptop computer from a different manufacture running Windows XP and all updates are loaded.

I also had the same problem when loading on my desk.

    Any ideas?

If you get the message installation was successful, you should find the HARD disk in disk management.
Control Panel > administrative tools > computer management > disk management

Maybe you first create a partition or format, but normally you will see players all recognized.

I have a hitachi lifestudio external hard drive and it works great 50% of the time... the other 50%, I fight because it not being recognized on my computer or laptop (both vista).  I plugged it to my computer now and it will only recognize the player but is not the one with my files that I need.  I have two USB cords connected and it was working fine yesterday!  Now all of a sudden it won't work at all.  I got and rehooked many times now and still nothing.  Other USB ports are filled with our wireless mouse and others.  Is there a way to force vista to recognize something?

    Hello

    ·          Were there any changes made to your computer before this problem?

Step 1: Try running Microsoft fix it in the following article:

    See also: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Tips-for-solving-problems-with-USB-devices

  • TOSHIBA StorE Art 2 TB external hard drive not recognized by HP Elite /Win7

I have a new HP Elite desktop computer running Windows 7 Home Edition:
A few months ago, I bought a Toshiba Store Art HDD Ext 2 to, which until today has worked well. Today, I started the PC in the morning (with no updates of Windows or other software) to find that he would recognize is no longer the Toshiba hard drive. He always recognizes the WD drives and SimpleTech drives when they are plugged. All external drives are powered separately and do not rely on the power of USB.

I tried the Art Store on other PC and it works fine. I tried to change the cables, the cable works on other players (and other cables will not do this work of Art store). I tried several ports USB 2 on the PC, with no luck * (but all the ports work with other readers).

I try verified Drvivers of COMPUTERS and MANAGING disks. There is no sign of the disk (not defective disc), it is simply not there at all.

I searched on the web - try a variety of techniques (disconnect the power PC) and much more. No luck.

    PC specifications are:
    Operating system
MS Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit SP1
    CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT
    Intel Core i3 530 2.93 GHz 30 ° c.
    Technology of 32nm Clarkdale
    RAM
    3.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665 MHz (9-9-9-24)
    Motherboard
    MSI 2A9Ch (CPU 1) 38 ° C

    HP L1906 (1280x1024@60Hz)
    ATI Radeon HD 5450
    Hard drives

    Optical drives
Device USB WD virtual CD 1110
    HP DVD-RAM GH60L
    Audio
    Realtek High Definition Audio

Works well with all other readers. and it worked with Toshiba until this morning.

    Clues?

    Thank you

I put t really know what can be the problem.
If everything worked a few days previously, first try to make back the OS using System Restore tool just to see if this will help.

  • External hard drive not recognized, but...

I can't find a similar problem anywhere online.

Drive external DRIVE is Toshiba Stor.E partner (green), 1 TB.

One day last week, I realized, it was not mounted in the usual place (on my Time Capsule), so I connected it to my Mac Mini, but no difference.

Screenshots show Mac specs, more the HARD drive in the disk and repair utility failed drive.

It is partitioned into two 500 GB, but I can't really remember why I did it.

For more than a year it is connected to the back of my time Capsule, so it is not included in the automatic backups. From time to time I move to my Mac Mini for a day or two and include it in the back up - but now that I enter Time Machine can't find a backup of it so I was probably passing on this topic in the wrong way? Also had a problem during the summer, this year, where my TC got indigestion and decided to throw all that, which means that I had to start from scratch, backups but it was not biggy time.

I bought a new cable (best reviews on Amazon), in which case it was a problem, but no difference. Have not yet tried a Y-cable but will if someone recommends.

I'm sure that people will need more information, ask so far.

Also displayed in the Mac Mini to the Web site, but this has farrrr less followers then thought that it would be wise by the bash too.

    Thanks in advance

Seems to me that the drive has failed. It happens.

I found the problem. The problem was that windows didn't download the appropriate driver. I checked under Computer Management - storage and could not find the drive. When I checked under devices and printers that I found the hard attached by non-functional disk. So I simply searched for the appropriate driver and the problem is solved.
