Extremely low noise on Ubuntu Dell Mini 910 (new out of box)

I just got a new Dell Inspiron Mini 910 yesterday loaded with Ubuntu.  I noticed that there wasn't any noise coming from her, no beeps, no sound of MP3 files, or a film.  The main volume and individual programs were to the max volume.  Headset works fine when it is plugged.  More later, when toubleshooting in silence full (in bed), I realized that there are sounds, but almost undetectable.  I found a post simular on the Dell forum which lead me to Configure alsa-base Ubuntu forums.  No results from that.  Any help would be great, I don't want to send it back, as everything else works fine, but I may have.

  • Need help with extremely low rates of FPS on X 51 new R2

I just bought a new Alienware X 51 R2 to replace an old Alienware model with a Radeon graphics card that I bought in 2012. My old machine has done useful work to run the games, and I was getting about 30 FPS on Grand Theft Auto 5 to high heat (especially) with a resolution of 1440 X 900. For most of the games I could play on normal settings and get 30 + FPS and I was happy with it. Not so with the new X 51 R2 I bought.

Almost immediately, I noticed that my FPS with GTA V was extremely low. When I start a game (1920 X 1080 with normal settings), the FPS is around 120, and the game plays smooth as butter, but as soon as I start to move starts to decline until it is of the order of 15-20. Enter a car is even worse, with FPS readings between 5 and 10, and at this rate, it is impossible to play. The problem seems to occur any resolution, I start the game or if I push the graphics settings to the lowest available.

I thought it was a driver problem, so I uninstalled all the drivers and software NVIDIA and a clean installed drivers, but that has not helped. Then I started to download and test the other games that I have to look at my FPS with them. Note that I tested each game first leave the game choose the graphics setting, then I tested it again on smaller settings at 1920 X 1080 and 1440 X 900.

    • Skyrim on old PC: 40 FPS and smooth at 1600 X 900
    • Skyrim w / default: 8-12 FPS and a lot of stuttering and offset
    • Skyrim @ 1920 X 1080: 12-15 FPS with less stutter but terrible mouse and keyboard delay.
    • Skyrim @ 1440 X 900: even at 1080
    • RAGE on old PC: 50 to 60 FPS and smooth at 1600 X 900
    • RAGE w / default settings: 25-35 FPS, but ran pretty smooth.
    • RAGE @ 1920 X 1080 and 1440 X 900: performs the same as the default settings
    • CoD4MW on old PC: 50 to 60 FPS and smooth at 1600 X 900
    • CoD4MW w / default settings: 10-15 FPS and a lot of stuttering
    • CoD4MW @ 1920 1440: 10-15 FPS and a lot of stuttering
    • Civilization 5 on old PC: 40-50 FPS and smooth at 1600 X 900
    • Civ5 on default settings: starts at ~ 35 FPS and descends until it is less than 20 years. Game play is smooth enough, as long as I'm not scroll the map.
    • Civ5 on 1920 X 1080: as with the settings by default, starts at ~ 35 FPS and begins to drop immediately.
    • Civ5 on 1440 X 900: much better that it begins at 60 FPS, but like the others, begins a fall after a few minutes, but not too far. Tube in the lower 20s.
    • Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 on the old PC: 90 + FPS to the highest settings (game released like 10 years ago)
    • Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 to 1600 X 900: 50 to 60 FPS and quite smooth.
    • Dead Island on old PC: 40-50 FPS and smooth at 1600 X 900
    • Dead Island in 1920 X 1080: 5 to 10 FPS and a lot of stuttering and keyboard/mouse lag.
    • Dead Island at 1440 X 900: 10-15 FPS and stuttering with some lag mouse.

Here is a list of some of the things I've tried:

    1. Downloaded FRAPS and used instead of the tool integrated FPS w / steam. Readings FRAPS corresponding to the display of the steam.
    2. Wipe the old NVIDIA drivers/software and did a clean install only the driver.
    3. Turn off VSync and tried the Adaptive VSync; neither helped.
    4. I bought a keyboard Roccat / mouse and I was wondering if they were part of the problem, so I uninstalled them and used a plain Microsoft keyboard and mouse. Did not help.
    5. Set the executable of the game to the highest priority in the Task Manager. Not good.
    6. Watched the memory usage, CPU utilization and disk i/o while playing to see if I have the hardware bottlenecks. CPU usage never had more than 20%. Memory usage has never had more than 37%. Drive e/s never had more than 10% after the initial load.

    System Specs:

    • Alienware X 51 R2
    • Windows 8.1
    • Processor: Intel Core i7 core 4 4790 @ 4000 MHz
    • RAM: 16 Gb DDR3
    • Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 w / 2 GB of memory
    • HARD disk: 7200 RPM Toshiba DT01ACA200

I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out how I can solve the problem. This is the first time I've owned a GeForce card (always had ATI Radeon in the past), and I'm starting to question that decision. The only game I could get decent framerate on is 10 years and more, and it's pretty frustrating.

Someone has an idea of what I can do to get to a resolution?

There must be something wrong with the fan 960 GTX. Either it has disconnected or broken. Or in bulk (screws not doing their job). I do not think that it is disconnected because it is detected, so it is either broken or it is loose.

You can check yourself on the GPU or contact technical support to examine it.

  • Satellite A100-532: the microphone volume is extremely low

I just bought Satellite A100-532 and I have a problem with the audio input. I can't use the microphone to chat with my friend on msn or even record my voice on the hard drive because the volume is extremely low.

I tried to turn the volume on the desktop and on the RealTek HD audio Manager, but nothing helped. Microphone works perfectly fine, as I hear myself on the speakers.

Normally, with my old laptop (M30 series) I could use sound recorder to record the music that I play using Winamp or WinMediaPlayer, but for this new laptop it detects all the sounds at all... just silence.

    Please notify.

    Hello

You should also check the volume controls in the "Audio & Sound devices" in the Panel.
In the 'Volume' tab it please go to "Advanced".
Then a "Volume control" should appear.
Check if all controls are set at a high level.
In addition, enter the 'options' and 'properties' and activate all volume controls.
Also change to "recording" and activate here also all the controls.
Additional you must check if the "check" is set to high.

Use the 'Advanced' mic option and play with thrust mic settings.
I'm sure that you will find the best settings for your mic record

  • Low noise Satellite A100-998

    Hello

I bought a satellite A100-998 with Harman/Kardon speakers, even if the computer laptop screen at the store had a remarkably high compared to other brands, the machine I bought product a very low sound, although the dial at the front is turned to the maximum & all software orders are set to high? A

NY suggestions? We advised me to update the audio driver, would this help (but why a laptop bought a few days ago would need to update its drivers?) and I need to update the Bios also, pls help as the low noise is upsetting to me much (not what I expected at all).

    Hello

I think that the volume on the laptops is a matter of opinion.
It is really not easy to tell if it s a bad or normal setting.
Why do you offer that the sound is low? Compare you the sound properties with other laptops?

Anyway, perhaps you're using really bad setting and only a switching of some controls would increase the sound quality.
AFAIK the Realtek HD Sound Effect Manager has been installed on this laptop. You should find it in the control panel.

Here, you can try to change some settings. Wave volume, volume of the CD, everything is possible.

Are you sure there is no another way (other than the CD) restore - as some strike at startup, etc.?

You mean that it doesn't have a CD/DVD drive?

There are several ways you can go about it - the easier, but would probably get a CD/DVD drive.  Borrow one from a person or buy an external.

Another option could include a USB bootable with the files to install on it or something in that sense.

  • I can receive emails, but cannot send on my dell mini that I use when traveling. error-0x800ccc6a

I can receive emails, but cannot send on my dell mini that I use when traveling.   My internet provider (and that of the hotel) said that there
"coming out of email corruption ' ' and must be repaired.   Help

On the road, most of the providers are blocking SMTP Port 25. Frontiernet is no different.

Note that this completely mentions authentication. I would put Frontier and make sure the SMTP port, you need to use. Once changed, it will work in the home and on the road.
  • Dell Mini computer, 9-gigabyte hard drive is full. I think with duplicates windows XP. I have here a program to detect duplicates and remove?

I use a Dell Mini with electronics 9 GB HD. It is entirely filled whith what, in my view, is at double window XP program.

Y at - it a program online, I can get to double program ID (files) lines and remove a?

At least the double file Finder knows which copy is correct - which would not be wise.

9 GB?  Backup to some USB Thumb Drive all that you need to format the device, install Windows XP, install the latest drivers and all the patches (ideal if you can start Windows XP with SP3 integrated installation), then just the applications you * need *.  Should be between 4.5 and 6 GB of things.  Leave you much, but - it is a mini. ;-)

  • Connection of a fall Dell Mini WRT110

In my house, we have the main PC and a Vontage device connected to my router which is a WRT110. I can easily connect my Toshiba laptop and everything works. The question is as soon as my wife logs on his Dell Mini to the router, it deletes everything.  If I turn off the PC at home and my laptop so that it can connect to his Mini.  The Mini running Windows 7 and has all the updates.

So, the configuration that I use on the router is as follows:

    MTU 1350

    Unique SSID

    Network mode is mixed

Standard 20 MHz channel band radio

    Channel 11-2, 462 GHz standard

The security mode is WPA2 Personal

    Beacon interval 50

    Fragmentation threshold 2304

    RTS threshold 2304

If there is someone who might be able to help with this situation, I would be very happy, because this is starting to annoy me.

    Thank you

What version of firmware you are running on the router...?

Try to reflash/upgrade of the firmware on the router and reconfigure the router from scratch. You can download the firmware from www.linksys.com/downloads.

  • How much space there is in a Dell Mini Tower Insipron 3847 case?

I know I should adapt to food and am looking at a power supply 650W, but will that an MSI GeForce GTX 970 fit in a Dell Mini Tower Insipron 3847 case?  I have the video card and you want to upgrade an Insipron unit.  Can't aford an Alienware at the moment.

    Thanks for any help.

Corsair CS750M is minimum, updated recommended.  FAN single GPU cards 9 inches or fit shorter. If it has 2 or more fans top it will NEVER go in the case of 3847 without hacksawing the drive bays hard on and moving the hard drive to another location.

10 inches to 12 inches is not physically going into the housing.

  • How to reinstall an OS on a Dell Mini without CD/DVD players

I got a Dell Mini with a provider of media as a gift for my switching media services.  I would like to do a clean install of the operating system.  The mini came with the driver CD and the OS, but the computer lacks a CD/DVD drive.  Before taking this approach, I want to ensure I do it this way.  Can I copy the contents of the CD on a USB drive and install the operating system and drivers of the USB (I have a desktop computer that I can transfer from CD to USB)?  Or is there another method to do this.  Thanks for all the answers.

Both Vista and XP can be installed from a USB key.  There are a lot of articles on the web explaining how to do it.

Here are a couple of guides XP: Windows XP using USB Flash Drive installation / installation of Windows XP on a PC using a USB flash drive.

For Vista... There are many guides, I might as well provide a link to all the hits of a Google search for 'InstaIling Windows Vista using a USB?'.
